Why is Coit is still out there?
I know Humter has to play cautiously right now with 4 fouls, but there was no excuse for that one.
Storr with a stupid shot, Hunter lazy as hell, Coit doesn't know where to go to guard.

Juan makes his FTs and this game is tied....
If Dickinson does anything on offense, KU has a lead.
@kuballin10 said in Looking forward to Hilton:
I predicted kj, hunt and Harris 3 turnovers each because isu is great defensively (unlike us but you all lapped it up against bad teams)
Hunter, Harris, and Mayo have 3 turnovers each. 9 of our 13. Kj was about there until his injury which sucks
Shut the fuck up and take the negative shit out of here. Why are you even still a KU fan at this point?
@wissox There's also multiple organizations that give national coach of the year awards as well and Self has also been the AP coach of the year twice in 2009 and 2016 and won the Sporting News national coach of the year in 2000 at Tulsa.
From the major organizations, Self is actually 4 time NCOY since the Naismith one you're referencing was in 2012.
@wissox Those awards are typically voted on after the conclusion of the regular season and before the NCAA Tournament starts.

@BeddieKU23 We do have a neutral court win over Duke so we know this team can beat other elite schools on a neutral floor.
Sometimes those early season games are not the best indicator but you always hope they are a sort of predictor of how the team would handle neutral court games in the tournament
KU had plenty of adversity in that game and still came away with the win against a legit title contenders. Had KU had a healthy Shak Moore at that point, I don't think that game would've come down to the buzzer. I think KU would've had a more comfortable 8-10 point win.
@ImmunoHawk That is essentially the feedback he got when he tested the NBA waters last season was that he needed to improve his defense and shot selection.
The concerning thing about AJ is that KU is his 7th school in 7 years going to back high school. Something like that is red flag raising. It's also red flag raising leaving a coach like Rick Pitino when Storr was going to get all the playing time he wanted last season. Pitino is a guy who knows what it takes to develop players into NBA talent and still has connections to NBA front offices. This tells me there's something wrong with AJ. The most likely options being that he's lazy, or he's uncoachable, or some combination of the two, or he's got someone in his ear giving him bad advice.
@BeddieKU23 We do have a neutral court win over Duke so we know this team can beat other elite schools on a neutral floor.
@kuballin10 What am I making up? At no point did I say anything about which ranking was higher between offense and defense. That's 100% you. You keep trying to imply I think offense doesn't matter, tell me where I've ever said that? UConn had good offenses before their title teams, they didn't have good defenses and couldn't won a tournament game because their defense was trash. They won their titles when their defense went from barely top 50 to top 10. Their offense was already top 25 before the titles.
@kuballin10 said in WKRP in Cincinnatti:
Worked well in 2018….oh wait
Elite offense >> elite defens
If prideful Hurley can figure it out anyone can
Spends more practice on O than D
You have that backwards. UConn hasn't won an NCAA Tournament game under Hurley in any season they haven't had a top 10 defense. He's had good good offenses before the two titles and he has a good offense this season, but those other years, UConn's defense was not good enough to win an NCAA Tournament game. Also, don't forget that Hurley's first title came against the weakest Final Four team in history and finished 4th in the Big East that season. Hurley had more luck in that tournament than Self did in 2022.
@kuballin10 said in WKRP in Cincinnatti:
@Texas-Hawk-10 In 2018 the number one defensive team in the nation lost to a 16 seed
When you pride yourself on defense from 2015 on that isn’t the best way to win. Slowing down the game, limiting possessions are all things bad teams want good teams to do.
Offensive ranking from 2015 on is a better indicator
So fast tempo, got it. KU's tempo is faster than Auburn, Duke, and Tennessee's and not much slower than ISU's and none of those teams are top 100 in tempo. There's only 1 team in Kenpom's top 5 that has a top 100 tempo. Looks like other good teams, including pretty much all of the title contenders, prefer playing at a slower tempo as well.
Maybe KU isn't playing nearly as slow as you think they are.
Today was KU's 7th game of the season holding an opponent under 60 points and 2nd time holding a team under 50. The last title team held 8 opponents under 60 points and the last time KU held multiple teams under 50 was the 2019-20 team.
This group is showing some things in common with two of the best KU teams in recent history, especially on defense.
@kuballin10 said in WKRP in Cincinnatti:
@Texas-Hawk-10 That place will be rocking and I might just be there for it
Their guards are all crazy athletic and force a ton of turnovers (I feel like most in conference but don’t care to look it up).
Juan, Zeke and Kj will all have 3+ a piece
KU only turns the ball over 10 times per game. They've been much better at protecting the ball than you think this season. They're also only allowing 51.3 ppg in conference play with 3 of the 4 teams being projected in the NCAA Tournament field. ISU isn't going to come close to the 86 ppg they're averaging this season. It'll be a game played somewhere between 65-75 points.
@kjayhawks said in WKRP in Cincinnatti:
I’ve been pretty easy on Juan this year, he’s been pretty solid for the most part but Shak out played him hardcore today. Idk how many deflections he got today. I hate how if you get one the steal goes to whomever catches it but I counted 8. Juando had 5 points and 1 assist today with zero fouls telling me he wasn’t aggressive in the slightest
You were watching a very different game if you think Dejuan wasn't aggressive at all today.
Nobody had more than 2 assists for KU today and only 12 for the game which is probably a season low, or close to it.
What Shak does for Dejuan is take pressure off of him. Dejuan no longer has to have the responsibility of both running the offense and guarding the other team's best perimeter player. Shak being able to focus on guarding the best perimeter player allows Dejuan to guard a lesser player which requires less energy.
It also means that Dejuan can focus more of his energy on running the offense and what the assists numbers say is that KU was scoring more off of the second and third passes rather than directly off of Dejuan's passes.
Cincinnati played great defense for the first 30 minutes, but KU finally wore out their defense and Dejuan was a large part of that with his movement both with and without the ball.
Shak and Dejuan are not in competition with each other. Their games compliment each other very well and work best when both are on the floor together.
@SlimShaddy54 said in WKRP in Cincinnatti:
The 40 points Ku gave up today is the least amount of points since all the way back in 1963
That's gotta be in regards to conference play because I know there were a couple of times while I was at KU that they held a non-conference opponents under 40. Just looked it up, Alcorn St. in 2009-10 and Howard in 2011-12.
ISU survived in OT as Tech missed a runner to win it.
This team has found an identity and it is their defense. This team has become much better defensively than I think most here anticipated. Shak Moore is showing why he was a DPOY candidate at Miss. St. and has taken so much pressure off of Dejuan that Dejuan is playing like he did a couple of years ago. Flory being able to guard every position has been a revelation amd has also taken some pressure off of KJ on that end as well.
Also, this team is old. I believe Flroy is the only player in the rotation not in at least his 3rd year of college.
There's still some work to do with the offense, but the defense is going to keep KU in just about every game the rest of the season.
When we play Houston, it might genuinely be a race to 40 for who wins.
This group absolutely has the tools to win a Big 12 title and contender for a Final Four and national title.
Cincy only scored 3 points in the final 7:33 of the game. KU's defense was lights out down the stretch.
@Zabudda said in WKRP in Cincinnatti:
We had 5 turnovers in the first 8 minutes and 2 in the last 32. Why in the world was this game not boring?
Some people appreciate great defense and KU was pretty much lights out on defense today. Cincy was pretty good defensively for the first 30 minutes today.
Time to go make some chili and get ready for the Texans game!
Only 12 fouls and 7 FT's today combined.
KU is allowing 51.3 ppg in conference play now.
That ISU game is going to be a really interesting clash of styles.
An 11 point lead in this game might as well be a 25 point lead in a regular game.

@Zabudda said in WKRP in Cincinnatti:
ESPN owns SEC Network I believe.
They do, but that's why there's no SEC games on ESPN+. Without the SEC Network, they'd also have 4 games there as well.
@wissox said in WKRP in Cincinnatti:
Can't rhyme this one. Zero $EC games today being given the E$PN+ treatment. 4 B12 games on ESPN+ including the last 2 national champs besides UConn.
Because they have the SEC Network. Without that, it'd be 4 games as well.
Defense was solid in the first half, but that strong defensive line up also isn't a good offensive line up. If the defense isn't getting live ball turnovers, the offense is going to struggle a bit to manufacture points.
@wissox said in WKRP in Cincinnatti:
@BeddieKU23 Are you surprised by that?
Honestly, yes. Cincy is 0-3 in league play with a loss to KSU and a 20 point loss to an underwhelming Baylor team.
Is K-State going to hang a national title banner in their football stadium if Ohio St. wins a national title?
@drgnslayr said in Arizona St:
So were we so desperate we told him he just has to score here? Doesn’t sound like Self….
Last season, KU had nobody that could create a shot and get a basket and AJ's skill set filled that need.
Self was so frustrated that he went out and added 4 transfers who were all known much more for their offensive skills over their defensive abilities. We've definitely seen Griffen, Mayo, and Coit struggle on defense at times, but nothing compared to Storr.
I stopped posting there after they got rid of the nicknames, and quit reading KUSports regularly after Matt left. The new guy isn't bad, but he doesn't have the same connection to KU that Matt Tait has.
Right now, Matt has a deal to subscribe to the premium section of his website for only $12 for a year if anyone isn't subscribed there and is interested.
@DCHawker The attraction was that he is a scorer who could create his own shot which was something missing from last season.
@kuballin10 You are being an asshole to others for the past couple of days because you can't let other people enjoy a 51 point conference road win against a solid team without raining on their optimism because nothing Bill Self does is ever going to be good enough for you.
Dylans and MR11 were being optimistic about KU possibily turning a corner, made positive comments that did not involve or mention you, but yet you chose to respond to them by being negative about KU's future like normal and couldn't let them enjoy the win. That's how you're being asshole.
I'm going to tell you right now that you would be an absolute failure of a college coach because you'd absolutely suck at the political side of the job. If you try to run off every good player because of the next shiny toy coming along, you'd earn yourself a very negative reputation in coaching and recruiting circles of having zero loyalty to any player and would have to rebuild every year because everyone would be fearful of being recruited over every year.
@kuballin10 “I do not want to play point guard full time" Are those the words you're referring to because they don't match with what you keep claiming about Cryer.
Bill Self didn’t chose Harris over Cryer, he chose Elmarko Jackson over Cryer.
@kuballin10 You already know who the player is that's capable of having an Remy like impact if the light ever comes for him like it finally did for Remy, and no he's not injured right now.
I don't why you've chosen to a bigger asshole than normal the last couple of days because I've never seen someone complain about a 51 point road win in conference before, but chill out and stop being an asshole to people who don't view things the same way you do.
@kuballin10 Philon didn't decommit because of Harris, he decommitted because of Elmarko. If being a starting PG was his top priority, then he wouldn't have chosen Alabama to play at. Just like for whatever reason you think Harris is why LJ Cryer never came to KU despite Cryer also never being a PG and being the perfect compliment to play next to Harris.
51 point win in a conference game. Was getting Pat Knight fired the last time KU won a Big 12 game by 50+?
Walk on basket!
Isn't 57 KU's biggest conference win ever? They're going to have a chance to tie or top it.

@wissox said in Central Flaw rid unh-uh:
Anyone see the graphic comparing Flory's first season to Dokes? Somewhat similar but favoring Flory.
Flory and Doke are not the same style of players, especially as freshmen. Also remember that Doke only played 11 games as a freshmen and was done before conference play started.
