They don’t go 9/14 against air. Just absurd.
They have shooters and KU is leaving them open, of course they could shoot 9/14 against air because they're doing it tonight.
They aren’t actually. Hasn’t been perfect but they’re shooting out of their minds.
KU's defense has been worse tonight than it was on Saturday. This is a bad defense allowing good shooters good looks.

KU has played like shit all year away from AFH all year against at large caliber teams. USC is an elite defense and a terrible match up for Kansas, but too many people didn't want to believe that because the "Pac 12 is bad" and guess what. USC is an elite defense and and terrible match up for Kansas.
We've made them look more elite than they are. They've give up more than 80 3 times and more than 70 another 9 times...
Also, they've only scored 80 once in the past 10 games...
Never once said anything about them being an elite offense. 13th nationally in FG% defense is elite and that's what USC did this year. They play a faster tempo so points allowed can be misleading because a faster tempo means more shots going up which means more points being scored. USC is a better version of Texas and Texas absolutely kicked KU's ass this year in 3 of the 4 halves they played this year.
Fair enough - just saying that a whole mess of their opponents have not struggled to score the extent to which we have. And, my reference to their scoring 80 was a criticism of our 1st half D - or lack thereof...
They gave up 46 and 38 to EWU, KU's defense away from AFH has been shit all year against good teams because Braun, Wilson, and McCormack have ranged anywhere from average to bad on defense this year.

Why don’t teams foul and try to extend the game anymore?
OU didn't have fouls to give to be able to do that. At that point, they had too many guys already with 4 fouls like Harkless and Reaves so players would've been fouling out who OU needed to keep on the floor.
Okie St. getting spanked at halftime by Oregon St. 44-30.

The right side of my bracket just kicked my butt PERIOD - total diaster
Not like Ohio State didn’t already do me in with their loss but this one hurt B1G time. My brackets are toast.
What gets me are the people who still have a perfect bracket. How in the heck does anyone have the foresight to pick Oral Roberts? I’ve never figured it out.
Nobody has a perfect bracket left after Ohio won last night.
Any top level team needing a coach, looking at you Indiana should be burning up Porter Moser's inbox right now.
@FarmerJayhawk UT donors just got done ponying up about $350 million for a new basketball arena. They're aware basketball exists and the new arena is the main reason why Shaka's seat should be hotter than it was last year.
After what happened last night, does Shaka even keep his job at Texas? He's yet to win a tournament game at Texas losing on a half court shot to Northern Iowa in 2016, blowing a big lead in 2018, and then losing to ACU last night.
Texas has their new arena coming in 2022 so Texas probably has a decision to make about Shaka's future with the program.
How the hell do you shoot 48% from 3, but only 59% from the FT line?
@wissox So my takeaway from that is how low was Missouri's admission standards at the time that guy got in there but rejected from KU because KU isn't that hard to get into?

I don't think anyone is fearful of USC, just nervous about having to play against the P12 player of the year and a likely Top 3 NBA draft pick. Of course KU can win...
very true , but no more fear against him the Cunningham
Cunningham and Mobley don't play the same position. Cunningham plays a position where KU is probably the strongest at defensively. Evan Mobley plays a position where KU is its weakest at.
I have never said KU can't win despite what you may believe. All I've said all along is that USC is a terrible match up for Kansas because their strengths are KU's weaknesses. Their offensive big man play exploits KU's lack of post defense. Their perimeter shooting exploits KU's defensive philosophy of switching everything on the perimeter. Their FG% defense is 13th in the nation which exploits KU being a poor shooting team this season.
That ignores how much KU has struggled away from AFH against good teams this year and Self's historical struggles in having KU prepared well enough the round of 32 and Elite 8.
All of that is when KU is at full strength. Insert a less than 100% McCormack and Wilson into the equation, and it's a perfect scenario for KU to come out and struggle on Monday.

USC is a terrible match up for Kansas. We don't have a quality answer for Evan Mobley. Dave isn't athletic enough to stay with him as evidenced by the Duck Dynasty guy kicking Dave's ass today. Mitch just isn't good enough to hang with Mobley and Jalen Wilson is probably going to have even worse fatigue issues than Dave did today if he's even able to go on Monday.
KU can't double Mobley full time because USC has three other starters shooting right around 40% from 3 and considering how bad KU's defense was today combined with Self's track record in round of 32 and Elite 8 games, KU' s going to have to pray they shoot like they did again today to have a chance.
Sorry USC really didn't impress overly that much. Sure Mobley is good - -USC is ok good, but we have played better teams this year sorry just not overwhelmed by them -- horrible horrible free throw shooting tem like was mentioned like 340th out of 368 teams. - -yep you Got Mobley, 2 Mobleys still again we played presumed # 1 pick for NBA this year and did ok ya different type of player but Cunningham just as talented as Mobley.
Just like other teams you might play with studs - they may get their points go crazy , the key is not to let the others on the team go off for career days. - - Look at Toppin last year - - great player real stud - -result - -we won. This year there has been Cade we split - bottom line can we get beat ? - - Sure - -Will we get beat umm maybe 50/50 - -Can we beat them ? -- sure we can that's why they play the game. - Just not blown away by them, whatever happens happens. - I've said we make it to the sweet 16 with this group - -anything else be gravy. -- Hel lDrake played well with them till like middle of 2n d half.
I do think Dave might have some trouble getting his shot off - -USC great length , still over all --- I'll take our chances
You're basing your opinion on USC off of one game. They are a good team whose strengths as a team play into KU's weaknesses. KU has been absolute shit on defense away from AFH all year. Dave already can't guard athletic big men and now he's going to have to guard arguably the 2nd best big man in the country while recovering from Covid where it was clear today his stamina is really low. That's a perfect set up for Mobley to go even more nuclear than Groves did today. And USC is not just Evan Mobley. 3 of their other rotation players shoot right around 40% from 3 as well including their PG Tahj Daddy. USC is also one of the best defenses in the country as they rank 13th in FG% defense giving up less than 40% on the year.
USC averages 75 ppg and has only allowed that many points 5 times all year. They are a terrible match up for Kansas because their strengths are KU's weaknesses on both ends of the floor.

Was our defense lacking today? E Wash scored 84 points and shot 50% from the field. I thought we gave them too much space to shoot their 10/26 3s.
KU's defense was shit today. 46 and 38 points respectively in each half. KU was especially bad at guarding their Duck Dynasty looking player who is their post player which isn't a good sign for Monday because Evan Mobley is an athletic 7 footer who's going to be a top 5 draft pick this year. USC is also a damn good defense ranked 13th in FG% defense with opponents only making 39% against USC.
Spring practice was pushed back a week and starts on March 30 now with the spring game tentatively set for May 1.
First Covid forfeit of the NCAA Tournament goes to VCU as they have to forfeit their game against Oregon so the Ducks are moving on.

Looks like WVU will move on to put the Big 12 at 4-0 for the day.
SDSU absolutely ice cold tonight. 7-30 from the field and 1-19 from 3 so far.
Buddy Boeheim is Syracuse's offense. Scored 16 of their 19 points so far.
At least for the Big 10's sake Illinois looked like what they were supposed to look like.
State of Texas gonna go 4-0 today.

No matter how it ends, props to North Texas.
Until now all I knew about the school was that they had a great jazz department. Lots of alums in bands from SNL to Letterman to The Blues Brothers. A couple even played with Frank Zappa.
Not just jazz, their entire music department is one of the best in country..
UNT tried to run Chop and almost got an open 3 out of it.
FT's have killed Purdue down the stretch. Missed some And 1's and front end of 1 and 1's late.
North Texas might be about to take out Purdue. Up 4 with 1:22 left.
Roy had won 29 straight round of 64 games before tonight. That's one of the most incredible streaks in NCAA Tournament history to me.
Grimes having himself a nice little game in UH's destruction of Cleveland St. 14-4-4 with about 5 minutes left including 4-9 from deep.

Barnes has made 24 tournament appearances before this season, he's only made past the 1st weekend 7 times. And all of those appearances have been at major conference schools from the Big East (Providence), ACC (Clemson), Big 12 (Texas), and now SEC (Tennessee) so he doesn't have the excuse of being at a mid major when it'd be more acceptable to not get past the weekend.

Self adds he doesn't know how effective he will be..Jalen Wilson could play Monday if KU advances. He's expected to join them Monday if they win.
Enaruna is out, recently tested positive for Covid
Self's comment about how he doesn't know how effective McCormack is the concerning part to me because that sounds like McCormack had Covid and lack of energy/stamina is one of the concerning symptoms as far as basket players are concerned.
EWU runs a lot of 5 out stuff so not a great match up for Dave regardless. I'd rather see Self rest Dave in the first round and save him for Evan Mobley. KU likely doesn't need Dave for EWU, but they won't beat USC without him or Jalen.
Baylor has the best chance to make the FF to me. They are the best defense in the country and probably the easiest path to the FF of any of the 1 seeds. Arkansas is probably their biggest threat, but that's an E8 match up if it happens.

3rd team: Davion Mitchell, Quentin Grimes, Herb Jones, Cameron Krutwig, Chris Duarte
Man, did we whiff on Timme or what? That guy is so skilled. I think that we stood a good chance of signing him had we really pushed. Player comparison, Sabonis (the one in the league now, not the father).
It's not really a whiff though. He was class of 2019 so KU already had a senior Doke and sophomore McCormack on the roster. If you're Drew Timme, why would you be interested in Kansas where you wouldn't play your first year and then likely be a back up until you're a senior? That's just not something a top 50 recruit is going to be looking for.
KU just wasn't going to land a ready to play big man in the 2019 class because there just weren't any minutes available. Drew Timme was just in the wrong class for KU to have serious interest or be a serious contender to land him.
@Kcmatt7 said in 2021 Transfer Talk/List:
@BShark Does he just not count against the scholarship count or something because he'd be a 5th year?
The only two players on KU's roster that would not impact scholarship numbers for next season are Garrett and Lightfoot. KU is currently at 14 scholarships for next season (15 if Garrett came back for whatever reason) so someone would have to transfer out to make room for any incoming transfer player.

Big ten needs a strong Indiana program. I’m always amazed when programs like it, Nebraska, Texas and Michigan football and the LA schools in both hoops and football fall on hard times. Seems like they should be able to reload no matter who’s coaching. KU is one bad hire away from the same doom.
This is something I've argued for years. Conferences need their traditional powers to be good to elevate the rest of the league. Why has the Big 12 consistently been one of the top leagues over the past 15 years? Because of Kansas. Why has the Big 12 been down in football recently? Because Texas has been down.
Why has the Pac 12 been down in both football and basketball recently? USC has been down in football and UCLA and Arizona have each been down in basketball.
Why was the ACC down this year? Because Duke and UNC were down this year.
If I'm Indiana's AD, my first call is to Porter Moser.
