Are you saying if everyone only played basketball and all gave equal effort then the ethnic breakdown of nba players would mirror the ethnic breakdown of the population?
I'm w @HighEliteMajor on this one. I've played and watched a lot of basketball and the black players typically seem to have a higher ceiling.
Look at the top players in the history of the game. Bird might be top 10 all time but I don't think he's top 5. And I know it's subjective but how would everyone rate their top ten?

Can't decide how I feel about Naa leaving. I'm actually excited others will get his PT. However, on the human side I feel for the guy.
Haven't seen anything about it....but is there any chance he has enough credits to graduate and transfer to a school that offers a graduate degree not offered at KU?

But seriously, this was my point all along...conference success benefits KU. Like the SEC in football, having a strong conference that puts teams in the F4 and wins titles is a good thing.
It would also help create real rivalries. The border war was such a good rivalry bc it went back to the civil war not bc it was competitive. Dook and UNC win national titles and the same w Louisville and UK thus intensifying the rivalry.
Imagine if the Mildcats won a national title? Even though I just threw up a little in my mouth, it would make it so much sweeter to beat them the next time we played.
So I'm gonna go with KSU for both answers!

I just posted this on another thread...but I'm at least glad Turner stayed in the B12 as the other teams need to step up. It will only help KU in both competition and national reputation if other B12 teams make the F4 and actually won a NC.

Actually glad he stayed in conference. I love winning it EVERY year but wish we had more conference teams make the F4 and maybe even win a national title as it only helps our SOS and reputation as a quasi hoops conference.

You've changed my mind about zone. For 42 years I've always mocked zone defenses as lazy and not "real" basketball. Like Scott Drew's zones. But I'm completely in agreement this past years team needed to play zone bc of our rim protectors (a positive) and terrible guard defense (a negative.). Hopefully Selden will play better D next year if he has two good wheels and Naa will...never mind...
Full court, 3/4 court and half court pressure should also be randomly played every couple games or every game as needed. @Jaybate has pounded this drum often.
PICK UP THE PACE!!! Ideally I'd like HCRW pace with Self's lock down defense. Like the 08 F4 game against UNC.
3's PLEASE!!! This might be the most important thing we can do offensively. Basketball is evolving right before our eyes. I believe there were a record number of threes launched this year in the league...golden state comes to mind... Statistically we HAVE to shoot more threes. Every year we're told how good the three shooters are but they never see the floor. Jeremy case was allegedly ray Allen but i assume he couldn't guard anyone. Personally, I'd NEVER have mason and Naa on the court at the same time. Picture this next year against TTU....PUSH the ball with CF, Oubre, Selden, Brannen and Alexander. Either Alexander dunks or someone shoots a 3. The lost art of the midrange jumper is LOST for a reason!

Another thread made me rewatch the last border war game, AGAIN! Man that team could really D up. It was night and day compared to this past season. Their effort really stood out, especially Kevin Young and T Rel...but all of them really.
I actually saw someone jump the passing lane, forgot that was even an option! Tyshawn looked like the greatest PG of all time compared to...oh well whatever never mind....

I actually think we have delved much deeper into recruiting philosophically than is actually practiced even at the high elite major level. I think HCBS throws out a wide net and tries the get the very best talent that fits his type of player.
Lastly, it's clear this board is full of OAD talent and everyone is coming back!

I was devastated when HCRW left...but then got really excited when HCBS was rumored to be coming...I read everything I could find on him and distinctly remember the Chicago writers loving him.
I don't want him to leave for at least 5-10 years or 2 more national titles whichever comes first.
I would like him to keep evolving as a coach. Resisting change is a recipe for mediocrity.
He needs to implement more zone like @HighEliteMajor keeps harping on justifiably so. Maybe play it 20% of the time but it needs to be on the table.
Mix in more full court, 3/4 court and half court presses like @jaybate has suggested.

PT aka playing time. This has always been a head scratcher for me. Historically he's always had a short leash with freshman (Russ Rob n Naa being two good examples). And he gives upper class men longer leashes (Naa, again & EJ). I wish he would have played CF and Brannen a lot more and taken away minutes from Selden and especially Naa. AWIII is a mystery.
Conference titles matter. I loved the analogy above that if we played nba series we'd have a lot more national titles to go along w our conference titles.
National titles matter, also. But I don't think HCBS is somehow not preparing our kids properly for the postseason bc of his lack of multiple titles. Is the new coach at UConn a genius bc of this tournament run? I highly doubt it.
Losing Beed cannot be understated. That's why I'm in favor of him returning! If so, is there any reason we shouldn't go 35-5 and win the title next year?

For the life of me I don't understand why the nba pa wouldn't want to put at least a two year out of hs rule in place.
It would help protect roster spots for veterans and should improve the level of play.
