@HighEliteMajor

Well said.

I remember the first high school game I watched on TV. Everyone was talking about this phenom named Lebron. I watched 15 minutes expecting to see a ball hog man amongst boys. What I saw was a man amongst boys w amazing vision and killer passing.

Bird saw the floor and passed incredibly well. Lebron sees the floor and typically makes the right decision. Many have said he passes too much at the end of games....but I think it's so engrained in him to make the "right" decision that he has a hard time taking a contested shot when he knows someone is wide open.

I'm curious, can court vision be learned?

Tweener EXACTLY what I was thinking! Hopefully he'll grow another 2-4". While I believe he will be good in college, the league has loads of 6'7"-6'9" guys many of which don't make it...

@icthawkfan316

Your PS (not BS) nailed it! The NBA is going to two years outta high school in the near future and it should make the level of play better in both college and the league.

Self Knows -- And That Is A Relief • Jun 30, 2014 05:54 AM

@HighEliteMajor

I'm torn, but I know you're right. We have to recruit the most talented players but we ABSOLUTELY need upper class LEADERSHIP!!!

The problem w last year was the freshman played way too many minutes. We started 3 which was 2 too many. And I felt we should have started a freshman PG, also!

Put Wiggs or Joel on a team w a bunch of juniors and seniors that know how to play Self ball and we only lose 3-5 games.

Great high school programs are largely successful bc kids grow up in the system. And the really good ones have middle schools w great coaches who are teaching the same stuff being run at the high school.

Imagine if Wiggs grew up near Lawrence like Tyrel, Brady and Rele. They all played a lot of minutes in their 4th or 5th (Brady 6!) years at KU after growing up watching KU hoops. I believe he would have been much farther along.

However, we don't have the population to produce a lot of local OAD talent that is groomed to play good Self ball. So best case scenario is to have mostly good solid 4 year guys and supplement w OAD's.

So you got the summer blues? • Jun 25, 2014 04:09 AM

@JayHawkFanToo

Who knew?!?! Well, obviously you did! I always felt he called goofy games wanting people to notice HIM...but if we've won our last two titles with him then he must be the greatest ref ever!

Bring him back for the '15 F4 in Indy!!!

Fond memory!

Although I never noticed Hightower tossed the ball to Memphis to start the game!

Report: Embiid Broken Foot? • Jun 22, 2014 01:27 AM

@HighEliteMajor

I was thinking the same thing...this may be a blessing in disguise. It may hurt a little financially but what if he falls to the Lakers? He won't be looked at as a savior of the franchise like the smaller markets...they can manage his minutes and grow him into a dominant center like they've had before.

Report: Embiid Broken Foot? • Jun 22, 2014 12:33 AM

@drgnslayr

Awesome! You played oversees? What countries? When?

Andrew Wiggins VS LeBron James • Jun 21, 2014 03:08 PM

Selfishly, I'd like to see him play for the Nuggs. And I think his game would be better suited for the western conference.

Although if he goes to the Bucks, a good friend said we can go see them play Denver and he'll let me wear his Paul Mokeski jersey!!!

It just feels Good. • Jun 20, 2014 04:37 PM

Report: Embiid Broken Foot? • Jun 20, 2014 04:12 PM

@jaybate

As always very thought provoking. (Side question- are you publishing book you worked on last summer?).

As for Joel, how should HCBS have better protected him? HCBS played college hoops so he has insight of someone who has been in the ring.

Are you implying he wasn't protected before the dreadful knee hyperextention at TCU? I might be on board w you after TCU.

Before TCU he played less minutes than Wiggs or Xavier so it didn't have the appearance we were overly riding him to his detriment.

Report: Embiid Broken Foot? • Jun 20, 2014 03:04 AM

I'm sure the crack staff at the NCAA won't allow this...but why can't he give all the endorsement $ back, fire his agent and come back to college?

@HighEliteMajor

I believe Brady's lore is increasing w the passing of time and I LOVE it! Revisionist history right before our eyes.

Brady's memory is similar to that of Scooter Barry just w/out the national title!

This is sooooooo great for recruiting!!!

Dook had a few down years before consonants started coaching team USA...and since then he's won a title and consistently gotten better recruits...coincidence?

@bskeet

PHOF!!!

Is anybody interested? • Jun 17, 2014 02:52 PM

Forgive me but I recently spent some time w two mizzery grads. After mentioning they were now in the SEC, they admitted they missed the B12 and playing Kansas.

Rock Chalk Diss-appointment! • Jun 16, 2014 04:56 AM

@HighEliteMajor

Just having fun! I'm Switzerland when it comes to Brady...but I think the Spurs make everyone look good.

They are a pleasure to watch. They embarrassed the Heat and pretty much toyed w them on offense.

I used to live in Florida and have been to a couple Heat games...so I was pulling for them especially bc of Mario...but they looked HORRIBLE! Ball stuck, no movement, no passing...poor D after six or seven passes....Spurs pass up good shot, then pass for better one then that guy often passes once more for dunk.

Brady has no business playing in the nba but I'm convinced the Spurs would make him look like he belongs.

Rock Chalk Diss-appointment! • Jun 14, 2014 02:37 PM

Just answered a couple questions on the old site to read article on Brady Morningstar!!!

Former Kansas University basketball guard Brady Morningstar had what he called “a great experience” playing in Finland’s top professional league this past season.

“It was good competition, nice people, nice culture,” said the 6-foot-3, 28-year-old Morningstar.

He averaged 14.1 points off 57 percent shooting (49 of 127 threes for 38.6 percent), with 4.1 assists and 3.9 rebounds for Tapiolan Honka in Helsinki.

He would be a perfect fit for the Spurs!!!

@JayHawkFanToo

Are you suggesting EJ is one of the greatest ever at either the 1 or 2?!?! Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Think Small • Jun 06, 2014 06:16 AM

@HighEliteMajor

I like it. (Except the mizzery stuff!).

I wonder:

  1. Would a 30 second shot clock influence HCBS to play more guys?

  2. How many deep did HCRW go? I remember him subbing five guys whenever he got frustrated w the 5 on the court...but did he consistently play more than 8?

  3. Will this team play better defense? If not, will we see any zone? (HEM softball question I know...it's late).

Chalmers Decision • Jun 06, 2014 12:33 AM

So what if Sherron was drafted by the Heat instead of Mario?

@drgnslayr I "favourited" your last post to get your reputation back equal w your posts!

@jaybate. The book is probably more in line w the others as it shows how the shoecos started pumping $ into AAU ball thru camps and directly to the coaches. One coach in particular started making loads of cash and became a prostitute for the kids just trying to get them exposure and a high ranking at the cost of teaching them how to PLAY basketball (ie: defense!).

@jaybate. It's funny you keyed in on "assault"...I changed my mind a few times on that word...thought you would like it bc of your keen military mind!

Chalmers Decision • Jun 04, 2014 03:50 AM

I'm a big Mario fan and will pull for the Heat bc of this. Keep in mind LBJ never won a championship until he teamed up w Mario! And Mario gave up his jersey #6 for him...hopefully for some cash...

@icthawkfan316 I don't think he's an all star but I think he's under-rated. Like @ralster said he comes up big in big games. He defers a LOT to the big 3. Put him on another team and he could average 15-18 ppg IMHO.

Wonder if Mario ever asks D Wade over to the house to watch the '03 final four semi-final?

@jaybate

Have you read "Play their hearts out?" Interesting read on AAU hoops.

I definitely don't want to be naive and/or blind to these possibilities...but I just want to believe we run a squeaky clean program in all aspects.

By all means keep up your assault on Stumpy, tho!

And do we know if WWW is staying in the Squids' pool house this summer?
