First 4* kid out of Texas since 2008. Hope they can build on this . Still have some spots to fill!
Self just ruled Garrett out for tomorrow.

is Garrett still out ?
I read he is questionable for tomorrow but should be good to go Saturday. I doubt he plays tomorrow.
Great game. Pleasantly surprised. One thing you can always count on is when Self and his team get backed in a corner they respond.
He’ll of a team effort tonight.

Yes. That is where Self will go, still forget about him sometimes! I bet he plays 35 minutes today.
@HighEliteMajor at programs like KU I don’t think you need connections to the program. You go hire the best most realistic guy. There is not one coach with KU ties that is qualified for the job.
Personally I would call Few and make him say no.
I have no idea what the NCAA will do to KU but I wouldn’t b surprised at all if we see a downtick in recruiting which will lead to obviously less success on the floor. Ultimately this bull shi*t might be enough to push Self out the door.
Not sure why any coach would want to put up,with this non sense when he doesn’t have too. Hell he could retire if he wanted .
Also , I understand a lot of this was brought on by himself, but still it might be running him ragged and I wouldn’t blame him for leaving it all behind.
@dylans might as well try and get Steve Kerr if Stephens says no.
For all of Garret’s short comings on offense losing him is going to hurt. Just a couple weeks ago Self said the teams couldn’t play without him on the floor.
Going to be a tough game today.womder who Self will put on Cluver now.
@BShark It sure does seem like this hinges on another players decision. Seems weird to make a change like this so close to a visit...
I wonder what changed his mind? I haven't really read anything where the staff was out watching him since it is pretty much known he is going to FSU...
Here is a pretty good article that breaks down all the problems on this years team.
@dylans That's the good life right there.
So Mathew Hurt is visiting this weekend. This might be one of the most important visits Self has had in a long time. Withe the way things are going on the recruiting front he is about as big of a must get as it gets for Self and KU.
I anticipate the crowd being pretty good as they know how desperate this team is for a win. Hope we knock it out of the park with him.
Yea, this team couldn't even stay in the same gym as last years team. They would rain triples all day long.
UNLESS Silvio gets cleared ( which I do not think will happen) this team just doesn't have a chance. He is not some savior, but we know he can rebound and protect the rim at a pretty elite level which this team severely needs. He can also be trusted to not throw up 17 foot jumpers that clank off the backboard like Dave.
@cragarhawk Right. Obviously if we face a bunch of double digit seeds this team and Self can manufacture some wins. However, if they have to play legit seeds / teams it is going to end early.
Just watch some of the top teams this year. Duke, UVA, Zags, Michigan, Tennessee, Sparty, etc... Hell you could add another 5 teams if you wanted. KU is just not elite this year. It sucks but it happens...
@BShark I don't think in Self's wildest dreams he could have imagined this from Q. He was awesome when he coached him for team USA, and I assume he was great in Summer workouts. I mean the kid was a consensus top 10 pick before the season.
I think there is also some politics going on with Q and KJ to some sense.
Windchill is up to -1. It was -12 about 90 minutes ago so a heat wave must have came through. All the schools are cancelled and the mail has been cancelled as well.
Not near as bad as up North, but still way to cold for this guy.
I think this team is going to end up in the 3-5 seed range. They have road games against KSU, TCU, Tech, Okie St, and OU. Right now I think they go 1-4 in those games. Then they have home games against Tech, Okie St, WVU, KSU, and Baylor. I think they will lose one of Tech or KSU. So that puts them at 5-5 the rest of the way.
That puts their record at 24-10. That completely takes KC and the Sprint Center out of the equation and probably puts them on the 4/5 line.
@BShark I don't think that is true. Self said this last night and I think it is 100% true IF Doke doesn't get hurt this team is 22-2 probably and ranked in the top 3. His injury changed everything for this team.
I think Self thought Ochai would have been a "luxury" not a necessity on this years team.
@Hawk8086 you think this team goes out night in and night out with energy, Fire, emotion? This team has zero “want to”.
Just like Self said after the game tonight. When you lose a game like they did to UK it should piss you off and this team came out flat like it didn’t give a damn all night. This has been going on all year. When you don’t have a leader this is what happens.
While I agree with you it just annoys me that this team shows no heart or desire to compete. I have been saying for a while if this team makes it out of the first weekend it would be a minor miracle. They literally don’t do one thing really well. Therefore, they have no identity. They can’t shoot, rebound, are not athletic, and sure as hell do not have a leader.
At this point I’d be shocked with a conference championship with even a tie. If you can’t beat a poor 11-9 Texas Texas team ( or WV) then who are you going to beat on the road. Also won’t be surprised if Tech or KSU gets them at home.
Just a disaster of a season considering they were consensus preseason top 3.
@Bwag at Texas. Yes
Lost 3 of the last 4. Team is trending in the wrong direction.
Another wide open brick
Didn’t even need a 3. That was so bad on so many levels.
This team is just dumb
What the F Dedric. That is absolutely ridiculous.
Dagger. Big time shot

Vick has to hit open looks like that. Yikes.
Yep. Him and Ochai have both missed wide open looks. Texas has made theirs late in the second half to stretch the lead back out.

Who were we recruitng still when LV decided to come back?
Romeo Langford
The refs have nothing to do with the outcome of this game
Nice strategy to leave there best shooter wide open in the corner
Dedric misses a 4 foot shot and they get a layup. Could have cut it to 4
What is Dotson doing?
Dedric has been really bad
DanR said:
Shaka's amped up a little early IMO
Showing more energy than anyone on KU
DanR said:
2.5 good looks at the basket at least
Dedric and Dotson both missed layups
Weak call ends the run
Damn! The Garett and Ochai do that.
That was impressive on both ends .
This team doesn’t have a shooter, post player, or leader.
LOL. Nice offense.
Wow
It pains me to say this, but this team isn’t even fun to watch.
What is this lineup?!
It all depends on who would be in our bracket as the 3 seed and who would be in it if we got bumped up a line. This team wants no part of Duke, UVA, Gonzaga, or Michigan for sure. To be really honest this team which is now ranked 15th in KenPom isn't really any threat to make a deep run, but I would think playing at Sprint Center would help a little. I know KU has struggled there before, but I don't think it would hurt.
Lunardi's bracket you are talking about would be about as good of a setup as KU could ask for. UNC as the 2 seed. We know how Self owns Roy. I know it hasn't always worked out, but anytime you can play tournament games close to home you take them.
Not too derail this, but can we please stop pretending that Dedric is coming back.
So if what I read is correct it looks like all Hernandez did was let a agent pay for his hotel room... ( approx $500) If that is the case there is no way Silvio is getting cleared.
And if he is declared ineligible for the rest of the year and or any part of next year he is going to turn pro I would think.
