Another 11 points and they've got us where they want us.

Meltdown 3.0 • Feb 04, 2025 01:36 AM

I can see us winning the next five games. Every game I have seen a path to a win and feel perplexed when it doesn't happen. Just if this thing or that will happen and I hope this thing or that doesn't happen. You coach between games and coach during games to support your strategy. It's up to players after that.

Bu Ku • Feb 03, 2025 04:27 AM

Hunter: Our most (only) reliable scorer. There's little reason why he doesn't score 25 every game. Throw it in to him is our only set offensive play. He really should make more of his chippies and he is a reliable free throw shooter. He can defend but prefers you come to him.
Zeke: A pure scorer who doesn't shoot enough. Gets the most attention on defense with a long athletic guard in his face. I really don't notice him on defense. Kind of a strange propensity to pass to players under the basket when they are not paying attention.
Juan: Is running a ghost offensive scheme. Can pass and defend and will shoot when no one else is open or refuses to shoot. He kind of freelances it because no one else can or will run the point.
KJ Adams: Is annoyed or perplexed when someone passes to him on offense and we are too.. Can defend and do vicious dunks which are coming less frequently. A warrior without an enemy.
Rylan: Can score from everywhere, sees the court well and makes good passes. Sometimes outsmarts himself when dribbling. I don't remember what he does defensively.
AJ: He is scary when running the floor. He is willing to stick his nose into the rebound scrum. When he can play freely he shows game to spare. His three point shot looks good enough to keep passing him the ball. And we all like to see him on the receiving end of the lob passes.
Shak: His speed and effort are there to see. Is he our next point guard? IDK. Not supposed to be a deep threat but we have seen him get hot. Last game he was somewhere but I don't remember seeing him and his stat line bears that out. Could probably get better at handling screens on defense. A lot of us seem to love him and some think his injury has him running behind.
Diggy: He's here he's there where is he? Is he the 5th starter or is Rylan?

@rockchalkjayhawk Yep 30 - 12 I was projecting around the 25 point mark we might get very close to 50 in the half. Hunter bricked 4 straight easy shots and I was thinking we should be up a lot more than this because our defense didn't look really good and Baylor was throwing it away and missing easy shot after shot and never much all the way up to 21. I thought I hope we don't come out flat at the start of the second half and it was worse than I could have imagined.

Bu Ku • Feb 01, 2025 10:50 PM

Why go to KJ on offense?

Bu Ku • Feb 01, 2025 09:49 PM

20/20 bench/starters.

Bu Ku • Feb 01, 2025 09:42 PM

Do not come out flat please.

Bu Ku • Feb 01, 2025 09:27 PM

5 straight bricks from Hunter.

Bu Ku • Feb 01, 2025 09:19 PM

14 bench points.

Bu Ku • Feb 01, 2025 09:07 PM

Gosh we are athletic, huh.

Other games 2025-2026 • Feb 01, 2025 07:36 PM

@stoptheflop

You're welcome. you could say it's wishful thinking too. The game is always different than the plan. What I want to see is a really good effort so we can decide if we are the better team. Good teams get in position to close out games. We did that against Houston twice and and easy close outs at that. We avoided a big let down after that, UCF is a scoring machine and they hung around and we got away with it that time.

Other games 2025-2026 • Feb 01, 2025 06:28 PM

Omier vs Flory and Hunter. Hunter should be able to get his shots. If he is automatic from 5' - 7' he will get his 20+. Zeke can get to the rim for a couple and a couple from mid range, 4 FT makes plus two makes from three land. That's an easy 20+. I think Coit is getting his game all in one bag and shooting 37% from deep. Give the man some minutes. Rylan has a good feel for the game not just from three but he needs to get open looks. Nine or ten threes will get us a solid 70+ which will make Baylor vulnerable. Prediction KU 75 - 68.

Putting things in context • Feb 01, 2025 12:30 AM

Is Juan going to play Tomorrow? We have seen enough of our players and at this point they are going to have to do it every game and pick up someone like Zeke if he doesn't get 20+. We will see if they play hard on D and on the boards. Our stats show we are a top tier team. As we said we are either going to take a step up or stay on hold. I think reading these posts no one really loves this team or think it will get on enough of a roll to change some minds.

@HoraceZontal

I thought if he was shooting the basket must have been in the corner. Good call.

Too risky probably but it was okay in the end. What to think about this team? I think we might have opened the door more than just a little bit. So many improbable plays at the end in Ames, double that down against Houston, and it would have been easier to lose to UCF than Houston. We have Flory and the three pointers which could be tenuous or not. We were top 10 tough defensively but that is fleeting maybe. Too many partially answered questions but we are closer than close it would appear. Do you think we can end the conference with just two more losses? How many words does it take to not say anything?

@approxinfinity Self's defense against the pick and roll doesn't work without a Flory. This team has grasped his stuff decently but we could value every possession better and our ball handling needs to get better. When we have a line up that works we are good and trending to very good I think. I am way too unforgiving and when I back off a bit it becomes more enjoyable. Watching Udoka and big Dave getting better was them getting better handles. Flory is way ahead of them as freshmen.

We missed Juan. Flory goes double double with 5 blocks. Hunt snaps out of it and makes three straight FG's, hits free throws down the stretch and scores 24. Diggy comes up big in crunch time. Zeke keeps acting like a 24 point a night scorer. We need to keep up what we are doing and keep using the 9 deep tactic until we really find out what we have in each guy. Ten turnovers in half number one and UCF until KJ's steal only had four all game and UCF made 14 threes. We had 10 threes ourselves and it is not so shocking when a sorely needed one goes down. Our vaunted defense was spotty and over came their FT shooting. I think Rylan and AJ are quality guys and we need them. Rylan has moved up to a solid C+ while AJ is somewhere else but keep playing him because we need him to take off. Not sure about Shak either and is he still hurt? Flory, Hunt, Zeke and Juan are the real core and a good enough one to win many more games. I'm still pissed about the Houston game what a complete waste. Like this game when we get 58 points from Flory, Zeke and Hunter is a must win for us no excuses.

Feeling the Fieldhouse magic? • Jan 26, 2025 06:33 AM

It was just one of those days and we came into this big game as doubting this team really had the goods. What do we make of Flory and Rylan? They played their bunsuelos off. We were thinking we should be shooting better and we did especially Rylan from deep. I feel really bad for Rylan surely he's hurting right now. I can't even describe Flory's game. He was everywhere and relentless wherever he was. I was like yes! yes! yes! and the pessimist Zabudda whom I don't like very much was lurking around and I acted out bad enough to embarrass myself. Oh well shoot a nickel and now I'm looking forward to the UCF game on Tuesday to see what transpires.

We can blame a bunch of stuff but we just blew it twice. I'm sick.

Feeling the Fieldhouse magic? • Jan 25, 2025 03:55 PM

Sharp will play today. The odds for a team winning the natty has Duke #1 Houston and ISU at #3 & #4 and our own sweet selves as the #9 favorite. Wouldn't it be nice to be 2 up and 1 down versus the top four?

Feeling the Fieldhouse magic? • Jan 25, 2025 03:38 PM

Slim I like your score prediction. Jay The Duke Bilas said this morning that Auburn and Houston are the top two in playing hard. If I remember Iowa State pushed us off the ball maybe Cincinnati did too. The point is Houston is on you so hard you pick up your dribble and the percentage of bad things happening goes up. Bill will want to go inside to Hunter but Houston has an athletic and beefy 6'8" shot blocker with an impressive wing span that Hunter may have trouble with. Hunt will get his shots but needs to hit 60% or so. Houston is shooting 39.9% from three while we allow only 28.6%. I can go on and on but we are evenly matched and our ability to score any which way will win the day. What I don't want to see is them getting up by four or so possessions and we might make little runs but they hold us off all game like ISU did. The ISU point differential is from their end of game junk baskets but they just held us off and there wasn't anything we could do about it. Not a good feeling at all.

@rockchalkjayhawk

I think Dujaun can be more than serviceable from three and is not afraid like he was. The sky is not falling yet and if Bill pulls him against Kelvin it's probably a desperate situation. If AJ or Rylan can't hit beans or Coit we need to keep playing them until they can. They have the stroke and Juan should keep shooting. We are such crybabies and spoiled. Grin and bear it just not bare it yet.

Well we are not the only ones anyways • Jan 24, 2025 05:19 PM

We need to be strong with the ball like not picking up your dribble and know where your sharp accurate pass is going. KJ if healthy is a good ball handler and passer and so is Hunter and so is Juan. It comes down to Shak, Coit, Rylan and an aggressive AJ to limit turnovers and bury threes. Flory needs to play big minutes and this means no foul trouble early. He is so gifted but this type of pressure may be good or bad. Kelvin baby is looking for a natty and would like a blowout in Allen.

Mythbusters: Bill Self, minutes, and March • Jan 24, 2025 12:04 AM

@BeddieKU23 I had that same thought and I hope so too.

Mythbusters: Bill Self, minutes, and March • Jan 23, 2025 11:52 PM

If Juan, who had a bad game by getting beat by his man a couple of times and the couple of threes rattled around but didn't drop and did his passing hurt the team and he had 7 dimes. Shak Moore can run the point but he will also throw it away and get beat on defense. He gives us an extra bit of pop from a scoring stand point. Is he a better defender than Juan yes he is good and should he and Juan share playing time? Yes and Juan needs to sit and rest about half the time or less. Juan is not a 2 or 3 guard or is he?
Our best three defenders are KJ, Flory and Shak. Flory makes Hunter better and Shak and Zeke will drive it. Zeke has a nice floater but I'm not sure about Shak's mid range. I can't believe i'm saying it but Shak, Zeke, AJ, Flory and Hunter should play together a lot of game minutes. Shak's ability to run the offense for a full half is mostly unknown but defenses will not shrug off him because he will pull the trigger. Flory shoots about 80% FG. Where he traveled earlier in the season he has learned to one bounce away from defenders and can dunk or flip it in. He is being coached well by someone and he seems to be a quick study. Not getting airborne on fakes and he can alter or block you seemingly by instinct. Fran said Flory was gassed one time in the game from playing a lot of minutes. That's two things Fran got right last evening. What do we do with KJ? Bring him off the bench as a defensive stopper on guards. When will Zach be back? If AJ and Rylan are making us a dangerous team then we are only thin in the lane.

@rockchalkjayhawk It just kind of played itself out. Diallo stepped in when he shouldn't have and it would have been over no biggie. I liked how we represented our selves during the dance. The refs didn't over react and we knew the double technicals for peace were coming. Could have been bad with stitches and all.

Mythbusters: Bill Self, minutes, and March • Jan 23, 2025 03:23 PM

@SlimShaddy54 Flory does truly make Hunter more effective from rebounding and getting better shots. Flory draws interest from the centers and also from the dribble drivers. Now Hunter is free to move around for position to shoot and rebound from. Also Flory stayed out of foul trouble. Flory is improving as we hoped he would and he brings real talent with him. He can cover anywhere in the paint in a flash and now he is getting his shots off. I think he is more talented than we thought he was.

We finished the game on a 64 - 37 run in the last 30 minutes. That's dominance and after shooting ourselves in the foot. It's just silly to do that. We get a taste of how good we can be. Not there yet but all that bench scoring should have been in addition to Juan and Zeke's usual output.

Defense in the second half was good effort.

YES!!!!!!!! Had to have this one another road conference Win.

@BeddieKU23 Again.

Defense has been great from our newbies!
