@Jayrawks1 you are name-calling. please stop.
Guys, can we stop bickering? It sucks we lost, but there's no point in starting fights on here.
NIGEL HAYES: Before I answer that question, I would like to say a few words, cattywampus, onomatopoeia and antidisestablishmentarianism....

@jaybate-1.0 question about bad ball premise that it is easier to disrupt than impose flow. If disrupting flow is key to bad ball, why doesn't Self call quicker time outs when opposing runs are imminent?
@tundrahok Time for the KO transcendance.
Surprised at ISU, but didn't get to watch the game. Baylor and Texas, meh. I'm hoping HuggieBear softens up UK with some body shots for us. If anyone might throw UK's freshman a curveball, it should be the team that forces the most TO's in the nation.
Bump! Last call for brackets!
Bump. Just bumping this for those that may not have seen it and want to join.
KUBuckets ESPN Tourney Pick-Em Group is up and running again this year if anyone wants to add their brackets.
Come one, come all, and add as many brackets as you like.

It's the difference between solid productivity from 6 guys 75% of the time or solid productivity from 10 guys 50% of the time.
How many starting lineups did we have in 2011-2012? How many have we had each year since... I don't know if what we lack is a chip so much as continuity. To earn a chip you gotta work at the docks first.
@JhawkAlum
7 out of 10 teams in the last decade that won it all also won their conference tournament; that doesn't mean that we, with our current injuries, should be caring about the conference tournament at all. 3 teams in recent years did not win their conference tournament.
UNC, 2009, Kentucky 2012, UConn 2014.
2011 UConn lost 7 of their final 11 regular season games before winning their conference tournament and winning it all.
If anything Bill consistently cares too much about every game (Big 12 champ #11) to have us in optimum shape for the Dance.
I like winning the conference. This year, it was particularly sweet. But I'm okay with giving the bench extended minutes and letting the chips fall as they may. Wins in the conference tournament are icing on the cake. I'll take this win, the way we earned it, and getting the bench warmed up is a great thing.
Petition that henceforth we refer to Bill Self as Bad Bill.
I wish the Final Four was in San Antonio.
@VailHawk yeah you got that right; I switched that one up this year for Juju. The spoof vid shot had Naadir as the frontman of the "wolfpack". It was time to move on.
@VailHawk yeah its a bit tacky. I just got a wild hair to mess around with it. Problem with the former avatar (juju posterizing someone) is that in a smaller form factor you can't tell what it is. It's tough making any action shot distinct. Maybe if I could replace the anti juju space with white or something.
@Crimsonorblue22 hey thanks :)
You can only create bolded text in the body of a post, not in the title, it appears.
Kelly Wiggins! So quick on the O glass.
Agreed. Withey needs to be in conversation. His impact on the defensive end controlled most games.
HM's 13 minutes 8 pts 2 Reb 1 ast 3 stl 2 blk and....... Exactly 1 dribble! And no traveling calls.
THAT is a guy who knows what he wants to do with the ball!
@brooksmd :) a little trolling keeps us honest.
@Crimsonorblue22 i miss Frank in the Big12.
@nuleafjhawk @stupidmichael It's funny you should say that Self calls his timeouts, possibly even too frequently... I have always had the opinion that he lets the kids play through longer than I'm comfortable with.
Almost invariably, I'll turn to my wife during each game at some point and say "timeout, Bill" and he'll let the kids continue to play, giving up 4 more points usually a blown defensive assignment, then a turnover leading to a runout, before he actiually calls the timeout.
In the timeout department, I believe Coach K, whom I despise, in the master of calling a timeout right before an opponent's run.
But maybe the 4 points don't matter and Self values the teaching moment letting them play through with a higher degree of autonomy. I don't know.
@drgnslayr Awesome thread. Had me rolling first thing this morning.
@jaybate-1.0 me too. what I thought at the time was that most guards don't get a layup at the rim when starting at the 3 point line with a spin move. Oh well. Congrats to Staten for putting them in a position to win. that was on the refs to make the call. I was impressed with Staten in his post game interview. Seems like a good kid: "Kansas is the best team in the league."
Deleting my post and stepping down from soapbox. Don't Seton me, bro.
@Crimsonorblue22 Were you referring to @ralster 's post here, about Self's feelings towards Frankamp's coming into the year?
@drgnslayr Oh my God. That is not safe for work, home, or anywhere!

@jaybate-1.0 - After two games against Baylor, I have to admit that I'm pretty impressed with Scott Drew. He has played us tight both times, and his zone is pretty darn good. I love the 1-3-1 and it really seemed that it was well coached.
I was thinking after the first game and certainly after this game, that maybe we've underestimated Drew. You can't deny that he's helped develop Rico Gathers, and he's competed with us as much as Iowa State and Texas in recent years. I no longer consider him one of the weaker coaches in the conference.
As an aside, I'd pin that ribbon on Travis Ford. But after that, I'm not sure. It's hard to say Trent Johnson, he's got TCU competing it seems. Tubby?
@HighEliteMajor Agreed. He definitely has not felt soft for a while, in large part due to rebounding with authority.
I did him a disservice and miscalculated his 3pt% in conference.. its actually 8/17. a whopping .471! (updated above)
So as for how his offense has changed....
Being that he's turned into an outside-in guy and his 3pt% is actually the same as his FG%, and his ppg is actually up slightly in conference, I'd say in Perry's case we've actually eliminated fools gold (scoring inside on shorter, lesser talents)
So, I looked at Perry's conference numbers... In 12 games, here are his averages:
- 13.2 pts
- .474 FG%
- .0.65 3pt
- .471 3pt%
- 7.34 reb
- 1.25 ast
- 1 blk
- 0.83 stl
- 2.75 pf
- 1.67 to
What strikes me here is that as much as we lamented his defense at the beginning of the season, in conference play he's 2 steals shy of averaging a steal and a block a game. So, Agent P, here's some love man! I see you getting up on D and you made me go to the boxscores to prove it.
I was asked by a 5-year-old I know "How strong is Hudy?" Can anyone answer me this?
!

@VailHawk He's a spambot defector. He works for us now.
@Shanghai_RCJH :) Sadly, a very large portion of our 20k users are spam bots, but I do appreciate the love... and we do have a substantial number of anonymous users that never register and are in fact carbon-based life forms.
@Jesse-Newell Congrats man. You've provided us with some incredible reads, and you're a good guy to boot. Thanks for what you do!
I feel bad for Snacks. He's as much one of our own as Wayne Selden or Frank Mason, imo. Maybe more so being that he played four years for Bill Self at Illinois prior to two years of coaching for KU. This is a lifestyle choice, considered illegal in some parts of the country. Most of us have gambled in office pools, drank in public, trespassed and broken God knows what other petty laws in our life. It is my opinion that the government should only be dictating what choices I can make in so much as how they may harm others. You may disagree, but please let's consider Snacks one of our own and hope this all works out for the best.
@brooksmd doing good man! Enjoyed these last two games but laying low. Been a bit under the weather and very busy but enjoying everyone's commentary.
@DoubleDD watching this does not get old. hopefully this is a game people point back to and say "remember when..."

@Crimsonorblue22 I am too. Dan Gilbert is a loser, and while I don't know too much about Glen Taylor, Minnesota's owner, their GM seems solid:
Milton M. "Milt" Newton is a retired American professional basketball player and the current general manager of the Minnesota Timberwolves of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Newton, a 6'5 forward, was recruited by coach Larry Brown to the University of Kansas, where he played from 1985 to 1989. During this time, he was a starting forward on Kansas' 1988 national championship team and joined teammate and Final Four Most Outstanding Player Danny Manning on the all tournament team.
The T-Wolves played the Cavs last night, and both Wiggins and James were 14-25 ↗. This obviously could be fuel for the fire for the camp that thinks the Love-Wiggins trade was short-sighted. Here is a new article on ESPN applauding the trade ↗.
The crux of the article's argument is that it's still a good trade because Love fills a need that Cleveland had alongside LeBron more than Wiggins (who plays the same position) would. I appreciated the respectful words James had for Wiggins in the post-game, and the overall sentiment that everyone should feel good about the trade for both teams.
However, this article assumes that the Cavs made the right deal in acquiring James, which in turn lured Love. While as players, James + Love might be > than Wiggins for this season, James is getting older (he's 30 and has played 12 seasons), and there is no guarantee that he will be able to maintain at his current level. While there's no guarantee on Wiggins' health either, I would say that the jury is still very much out.
In the meantime, we can enjoy watching 3 Wolves in the rising stars challenge, and hope that next time the Wolves play the Cavs, the Wolves' top 3 PG's aren't DNP'd, leaving Lorenzo Brown to go 0-5 in 48 minutes and that we see more of Gorgui Dieng and less of Nikola Pekovic, who is the worst rim protector in the league ↗.
@brooksmd lets not make this a tale of two halves. lets obliterate them.
@bskeet .. Weber looks like an oompa loompa when he gets all flushed and animated.
@JayHawkFanToo @HighEliteMajor guys.. "Ignore". It's not just a button! (it's not a button at all in this forum format, in fact. Let's get analog!)
@globaljaybird I ignore politics. Unlike KU basketball, politics is just a game.
3 TOs. as they said after the game that ties the least against a big 12 ranked opponent ever
@globaljaybird In that case, I wonder how much the Kenyan beachfront properties run.... http://www.dianibeach.com/realestate/ ↗ ↗
