KU vs OU - Chat Here • Jan 20, 2015 05:12 AM

@globaljaybird I mean Fran shouldn't be calling the game of a team that his son currently is on! Oh well.

KU vs OU - Chat Here • Jan 20, 2015 04:47 AM

@Kip_McSmithers I'm enjoying reading Self's lips this year. No more clipboard shielding his mouth. Watching just the bobbing top of his red face in years past was a little rediculous.

"#@%@#^@ what did I just tell you?"

"I don't know coach, you were talking into your clipboard again"

"@#%)@#%@"

@Kip_McSmithers Ha. James Fraschilla, his son, is still on the Sooners team! Isn't there a conflict of interest there?

@Kip_McSmithers As my wife says "Eat your Frogurt Fran!"

Selden sitting during crunch time... With the emergence of Oubre and the return of Graham, and now Perry successfully turning into what he should be... a jumpshooter... Welcome to the toughening box, Wayne!

tuff loss BUT • Jan 19, 2015 04:01 AM

@JayhawkRock78 Yeah the run-outs were mind-blowing.

One thing I don't know if anyone discussed, is Texas dismantling WV. I didn't see that coming, and makes me wonder if maybe I'm underestimating Texas and overestimating WV. I missed the game (anyone catch it?) but I did noticed that WV's bench shot 4-26. Ouch.

tuff loss BUT • Jan 19, 2015 01:05 AM

@jayballer54 It's funny when I watch K State. I find I really like the character of the kids that Weber recruits. I just can't stand him. So I kind of root for them to play well, just lose specific games. If they can help us win the conference by playing well that would be ideal.

Guys i need your help. your input • Jan 19, 2015 12:55 AM

@jayballer54 @JayHawkFanToo don't let them get a rise out of you. This seems like a classic case of wanting to get the last word in. Trust me, where I see it, I appreciate the guy who doesn't respond last. Let's move on guys.

@jaybate-2.0 @VailHawk calling the BIA. Need covert peacekeeping efforts in the region of this post.

KU vs ISU - Chat Here • Jan 18, 2015 02:31 PM

@bskeet The refs were really bad. That being said, congrats to Hoiberg and his kids for playing a good game, and the fans for not being awful. When Frank got cramps, the boos seemed almost of singular origin, and the majority went to a "lets go cyclones" chant. It's really impressive what Hoiberg has assembled with his transfers / recruits. That McKay kid is a beast; so is Dejean-Jones. Fred seems to be getting maximum output out of all his guys and we should have a real rivalry for the forseeable future (not a rivalry in name only like the last decade we had Mizzou).

@REHawk Oubre has flexed way more than Cliff. He just didn't get T'd up for it. Hopefully we won't be calling Cliff Mr. T!

KU vs OSU - Chat Here • Jan 14, 2015 02:53 AM

I think after tonight, I'd like to see more of this lineup, which I think others have also suggested would be our best line:
Mason
Graham
Oubre
Mari
Alexander

At this point, why not bring Perry off the bench. He responds in 1 of 2 ways... He says "this is BS I'm taking my starting job back" or he plays poorly with diminished confidence. If he doesn't step up to that challenge, what kind of production are we going to get out of him come tournament time?

Also, WV is the second best team in our league, imo. Then Iowa State. Bobby Huggins knows how to coach. All the questions we have every year mid-conference about the coaching ability of Barnes, Ford, Drew, Weber.. those questions don't apply to Huggins. He's going to have WV contending for the conference title a lot for the next decade.

Nice write up on Alexander • Jan 13, 2015 05:06 AM

Texas Tech Win: The Death Of Feed The Post • Jan 12, 2015 02:40 AM

@globaljaybird Not too strange. Growing up overseas can make a person long to settle down stateside. Settling in the DC area still provides a taste of the global culture. You run into other people who have traveled the world. You stay abreast of politics by proximity. The greater world still feels like it is not so far away outside your window.

You still have your passport. But you're home.

HOWLING.

Red just ain't right!

I'm cool with it being a change of pace thing, but blue still has to be the standard. I'm sorry, I just don't think red is any way to live on the internet. There just aren't red themes, for a good reason. Red and yellow are for McDonalds and for Iowa State and that's it. They make you hungry, and they make you mad.

I think it's for the good of the many to stick with blue; we learned from the "dark theme drama", we want colors that are as innocuous as possible to not distract from the meat and potatoes, the posts.

@DanR Care to weigh in?

See Exhibit A ↗

Some of the earlier findings by Elliott and his fellow researchers are more unexpected. When even the tiniest scrap of red is experienced during some sort of competence evaluation situation (such as while taking an IQ test), study participants do not perform as well on the test and are motivated to avoid challenging tasks. In one of the test situations, the red exposure was limited to a participant number printed on the front page of a test booklet and in some cases the exposure to red in the test booklet was very brief (2 seconds) - in each case the ramification of seeing red were the same. The research team hypothesized that these results arise because in our society tests, homework, assignments, papers, etc., are often graded with red pencils and pens, and the associations learned between red and grading - and potential failure - affect subsequent performance and behaviors.

@VailHawk ;)

@jaybate-1.0 Ha. Now I have to read the Glass Bead Game.. Had to look that reference up.

I wish I could rewatch the game now and look for how many times the offense changed (damn you CBS). Always a fun read when you explore the Self.

UNLV: Welcome To The Six Man Rotation • Jan 05, 2015 01:17 AM

@HighEliteMajor We also didn't get into foul trouble, so that made it easier to shorten the rotation. All the starters had 1 or 2 fouls for the whole game, and Cliff had 3 from the bench. So, we didn't see the 2-foul hook in the first half (I don't think).

How many wins will we need to win the Big12 this year? Has anyone done a recent projection of how many losses the rest of the teams in conference will have?

Uh-Oh, downvotes possible • Jan 03, 2015 09:14 PM

@jaybate-1.0 You're huffing and puffing because you've written 2100 posts. And as half of your posts are of the epic length and substance (LSA) variety, I'd have to say I don't know many 20 year olds that could sustain that. With near daily PHOF material I'd say you're one of our MUAs. I don't buy the old guy act; youth is a state of mind, and you live smack dab in the middle of it.

Uh-Oh, downvotes possible • Jan 03, 2015 09:00 PM

@bskeet no worries man. we can turn downvotes back on when @jaybate-1.0 gets closer to catching up with @drgnslayr for the reputation lead.... ;)

Improvement Inside Means Cliff At 30 MPG • Dec 29, 2014 02:40 AM

@HighEliteMajor Great post. His rebounding is there already, the offense and defense both are raw, with encouraging signs.. On both ends of the court, I've been amazed at times seeing how Cliff can absorb contact, and still complete a play. Slammed into on defense by a KY big, he absorbed it and still went up and made the block immediately. Same thing against a Temple big. On offense, one of the early games, he had a beautifully soft baseline jumper after taking a big hit. He needs the minutes to feel comfortable with an expanded set of offensive moves and to learn body control on D so he can stay on the court.

I completely expect that, barring foul trouble, Kent State is going to be the beginning of the Cliff show. Thanks for the scoop on next game's theme.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays • Dec 26, 2014 02:59 AM

Happy Holidays. It's funny how my mind will often wander when I'm out in town and go to something funny or engaging that was said on here. I really appreciate you guys. Merry Christmas.

I love this team for beating Michigan St, Florida, Georgetown and Utah in a row. If they had lost any of those games, we would have expected it. The writers were calling for it. But they don't like to lose. They've proven that, by running that gauntlet.

So, they dropped an egg on 2 days rest right before Christmas, it doesn't make me question their heart.

As others have statistically proven, our interior isn't performing on either end as well as years past. But again, check out UConn's roster last year....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013%E2%80%9314_Connecticut_Huskies_men%27s_basketball_team ↗

....and in 2010-2011...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010%E2%80%9311_Connecticut_Huskies_men%27s_basketball_team ↗

While in 2010 they had one footer who played 15 mpg, otherwise both rosters are pretty comparable to ours in height.

I fully expect Self to understand the identity of this team and have the bigs playing well the diminished roles we need from them come March.

@KUinLA said:

@approxinfinity Good luck with that-- teams that lose games by 25 & 30 points don't do ANYTHING in the tournament. Get ready for a first weekend exit come March.

I can disprove that with last year's champion:

Louisville clinches share of AAC regular-season title with rout of UConn ↗

One might argue that Louisville was a better team than Temple, but a 25 point loss in the season does not preclude victory in march.

Well? Well? Well? • Dec 23, 2014 06:19 PM

Happy Holidays guys. Really looking forward to conference play. I think the guys know they won't be able to take any days off in conference so they dropped this one. Not deliberately but if there was one to drop it was now.

@drgnslayr @JayHawkFanToo Alright guys, I don't want to take a step back when it seems we righted the ship on the previous blow up. I believe attempting to isolate groups of people based upon a shared specific belief can easily be construed as divisive. Instead of identifying "anyone that thinks that... " etc, as if the belief described is a character flaw, we should be talking specifically about the merits of the idea. "The idea that .... blah blah... doesn't add up" etc.

Also, goading someone to action ex. "Do it. Do it. Now" seems to me incendiary.

I appreciate passion and challenging one another, and if you guys can stay civil then I can stay out of it.

@JayHawkFanToo @jaybate-1.0

Anyone that starts their post with "Anyone that...." Come on guys! :santa: :eyes:

@JayHawkFanToo Well the rest of the team other than Kelly was 6/33. Kelly was 4/8 and those were basically stick backs on his own misses. So if Mason got 2 assists on 6 made baskets, who knows how many of the 27 missed shots should have been assists.

@KUSTEVE Well said.

With this non-con schedule, I'll take 9-2 and try to forget the margins of defeat. Hope the guys are hungry when it counts, hope Self irons out the kinks in some lineups that did not work tonight, and hope we get a commitment to D and rebounding for conference play.

You guys don't think Frank was good tonight? 8/15 (4/6 for 3), 3 reb, 2 asst, 3 st, 20 pts 5 TO's. Yes, the TO's were high, the assists were low.. but the rest of the team was non-existant. I give big props to Frank for showing up all game. I think he played about 37 minutes..

@JayHawkFanToo Good try Frank and Kelly.

KUBUCKETS RULES!!!! • Dec 19, 2014 03:15 AM

@jaybate-1.0 thanks man. Alles in Ordnung! And as we all know... Arbeit spart wer Ordnung wahrt.

If you guys need to channel a little negative passion constructively, please join me in turning on Duke and screaming at the TV when Jahlil Okafor hooks someone (around 5 times a game) to score, or takes 2 steps, stops at the post, does 3 pump fakes and then gets "fouled" while busting someone's lip open, or when Tyus Jones flails at half court when someone touches him and they get called for a flagrant one.. I'm so glad those guys aren't Jayhawks.. They were born to be Dukies.

I felt bad for Kevin Ollie's boys. They got the classic Duke experience tonight.

KUBUCKETS RULES!!!! • Dec 18, 2014 05:58 AM

@brooksmd thanks man. been good; busy. following the threads, enjoying this year's ride. excited about the current team. as excited as 2007, though not as confident as 2008 / 2011. That being said, it is starting to sink in that basketball and other fixtures from my childhood are in fact things in great flux when seen with a wider lens, and every season should be enjoyed as it's own entity, and not just as a copy or another season, say imperfect copies of the 2008 season. I think I'm enjoying this season more than any season prior. Thanks for the well wishes, Merry Christmas to you and yours as well!

Thanks man. Just be kind, rewind.

KUBUCKETS RULES!!!! • Dec 18, 2014 03:12 AM

Seriously, KUBuckets rules....

  1. Don't be a jerk.
  2. See 1.

While these rules are subject to interpretation, I think we can generally agree on what it means... don't demean, antagonize, or character assassinate. Don't use George Carlin's seven dirty words (or excessive clever equivalents), or if you feel you absolutely must, stay classy with some well places astericks... Etc etc. This isn't a police state, deliberately. To the contrary, I'd say for the most part this place has been a model of civility [DESPITE our freedoms] that the greater world could learn from. Don't be a jerk, and if you slip and act like one, own it, make it better... I'm preaching to the choir. You're all good people...

But, I've got a small favor to ask..

It being the holidays and all, and the holidays being a good excuse to ask a small favor, can we all use our best judgement (and by that I mean, our best, not the guy standing next to our best judgement) for the next couple weeks and pretend like CivilHawk is still casing the joint lauding our civility... and as a community, roll into the New Year on a good note?

Thanks guys.

Thanks for the wonderful dose of unbridled and genuine optimism @jaybate-1.0. Giddy! As my Omi would say "Alles in ordnung".
