Honestly wish we’d give up on the Z train and let Zuby play more. With our wings we have enough scoring and Zuby will at least look at the rim when he catches it or rebounds it under the basket.

In limited minutes last year, Z had some great moments but he looks all out of sorts and actually slower than before. It’s as if the game hasn’t slowed down for him mentally but sped up which makes no sense his second year in the system.

This team looks much better than last year's team at this stage of the game, imo.

Will be interesting to see how this team handles adversity. I can already hear self, ā€œthey’ve made shots, so that makes us look better than we really playedā€ type stuff. Which always seems like coach speak to me but may have some validity. Definitely appear ahead of schedule to me. Should be a fun season!

@kuballin10 It's just so funny because all of last year was about how difficult it was for the new transfer to fit in, and he only finally got it and healthy at the very end of the year (thank god!) but kevin has just slid into the starting lineup as if he's in his 3rd or fourth season in a KU Uniform. Looks good on him in my opinion.

Way Too Early Line-up and Player Thoughts • Nov 11, 2022 07:03 PM

@BeddieKU23 Yeah, Kevin is a perfect fit. Can't overstate the leadership of Harris and Wilson. It's clearly their team and doesn't seem like anyone has an issue with that, including them.

Way Too Early Line-up and Player Thoughts • Nov 11, 2022 05:25 PM

@jayballer67 Great points about jank and Harris. You might be right. Maybe Jank should be getting minutes instead of kevin or Grady instead. Gotta get a shooter like that on the floor!

Way Too Early Line-up and Player Thoughts • Nov 11, 2022 05:24 PM

@drgnslayr Definitely with you on the Bball iq thing. Seems like almost everyone on this team already ā€œgets itā€. Winning another title and putting guys like Och and Braun in the league surely grabs most players attention and respect.

I didn’t know anything about Udeh coming in but heard him and self on hawk talk. Self was comparing him to Dave academically and brains wise so that’s pretty high praise there. He sounded so humble and just kept saying, I listen to these coaches because they definitely know more than me. I think the most impressive thing I’ve seen from Udeh so far is that transition dunk last night. That’s not a pass and situation a ton of big guys can manage so smoothly. Caught it in rhythm, measured his massive strides, and slammed it without traveling or bumbling the ball at all.

KU was favored by 24.5. Bettors that backed us got hosed on that last 3 by the Bison.

Ouch.

Should Jank take Juan’s minutes?

The numbers. Don’t. Lie.

Fargo Game Thread • Nov 11, 2022 01:57 AM

See. He’s too good.

Fargo Game Thread • Nov 11, 2022 01:54 AM

@BeddieKU23 his PER is so high that might be rude at this point. He’s our best player.

Fargo Game Thread • Nov 11, 2022 01:53 AM

Remember that one year when we didn’t dunk like ever?

@wissox said in Fargo Game Thread:

@FarmerJayhawk for sure, and I know exactly how the episode will go too, like every episode!

So how is that different than this?

Fargo Game Thread • Nov 11, 2022 01:49 AM

This game has been good for the young guys. Some low pressure playing time.

Fargo Game Thread • Nov 11, 2022 01:48 AM

Juan trying to get zuby going.

Fargo Game Thread • Nov 11, 2022 01:38 AM

So no foul for Udeh???

Fargo Game Thread • Nov 11, 2022 01:37 AM

One shot instead of two?

Fargo Game Thread • Nov 11, 2022 01:35 AM

Those strides.

Fargo Game Thread • Nov 11, 2022 01:35 AM

Dear god

Fargo Game Thread • Nov 11, 2022 01:34 AM

@Jethro I’d say I’m here for Bobby coming up big so that maybe we can keep Harris at closer to 30 mpg instead of 38. Long term wear on guards can be a factor.

Fargo Game Thread • Nov 11, 2022 01:30 AM

Pick and roll with Bobby and Udeh is lose lose for the defense.

Fargo Game Thread • Nov 11, 2022 01:27 AM

Bobby loves throwing it to Udeh.

Fargo Game Thread • Nov 11, 2022 01:27 AM

@FarmerJayhawk yeah. He may be the biggest beneficiary of this self suspension. Can’t imagine rice wouldn’t have got the quick hook at some point this game.

I’m not sure it’s fair to have McCullar and Juan out there at the same time.

Dick's been very impressive as well with his defense. A line up of Udeh, Adams, McCullar, Dick, and Harris could shut some teams out for long stretches.

Self will absolutely use this line up at some point.

Fargo Game Thread • Nov 11, 2022 01:19 AM

I’m not sure it’s fair to have McCullar and Juan out there at the same time.

Fargo Game Thread • Nov 11, 2022 01:18 AM

Hands everywhere. Speed everywhere. Will be interesting to see how this translates against the big boys but this sure is better than struggling against a team like this.

The 5 spot • Nov 10, 2022 09:44 PM

@jayballer67 I think the lack of boards for Grady is a result of him being the wing who is supposed to leak out and run. Let Wilson grab the boards and push it.

Gradey’s shot • Nov 09, 2022 04:10 PM

@approxinfinity ?s=46&t=e2W4u4_6Y7e9TliAOUbe3g

Pretty sure this is what folks are talking about when they say that.

Box Score Musings • Nov 09, 2022 04:05 PM

@approxinfinity Hahaha! Yeah. I know. He’s clearly ā€œathleticā€ but I did just notice the difference between him catching a lob vs Och. Obviously an extremely high bar (pun intended) but that’s the level he wants to play at.

Box Score Musings • Nov 09, 2022 02:18 AM

@approxinfinity exactly. Not sure how anyone watches him and doesn’t see the bill self just brought in another one. He’s a tad small which means he’s had to be faster, stronger, and work harder than everyone else to get here. He gets to the rim at will. He finishes strong. He’s shown some good vision. He makes the motor of the team hum as he takes it full throttle.

2022-23 stats-PER, Kenpom etc • Nov 08, 2022 10:11 PM

Numbers don’t lie. Sit Harris. Start Jank.

Peyton Manning Game Thread • Nov 08, 2022 10:11 PM

@jayballer67 Can he defend opponents 4? No. He cannot. And it looks to me like self thinks the strength of this team is pace and Zach at the 4 would not help that. I think that’s a big reason kj is getting so much run. That and he earned self ultimate trust as a defend everything player.

Gradey’s shot • Nov 08, 2022 08:44 PM

@BShark said in Gradey’s shot:

Likely only going to be here one year.

Ok. He’s a lot of fun. Has a pure stroke. Clearly fast and has some quick hands, but is it just me or does he not jump very high? Yes he caught a lob. Yea he had a fast break dunk. Yes he had an acrobatic finish at the rim. But it looked to me he was above the rim but not like Och level. I know that’s picky but just trying to find something to keep the kids head out of the stratosphere! Lol.

Box Score Musings • Nov 08, 2022 04:43 PM

@justanotherfan Back is what has been reported.

The 5 spot • Nov 08, 2022 03:33 PM

@kuballin10 I love Bobby but he’s made one three. Not sure he’s a respected deep threat yet.

Box Score Musings • Nov 08, 2022 03:32 PM

@kuballin10 pretty confident that if Bobby stays healthy he will get plenty of minutes. My concern with Bobby would be his minutes NEXT year. Ideally for his development, that’s when he’d be taking the helm but o don’t see Harris going anywhere and it’s hard to argue a senior point guard with at least one national title shouldn’t be the starter.

The 5 spot • Nov 08, 2022 02:56 PM

KJ and Harris don’t do a lot of things other players can’t do but they sure do a bunch of things a lot of players DONT do that lead to winning. It’s gonna be tough for self/norm to sit a guy that does everything he preaches and was a small but important piece of a national championship team.

TCU Shenanigans • Nov 08, 2022 01:18 PM

Didn’t they just hurt the tech quarterback? It’s really something.

Box Score Musings • Nov 08, 2022 02:54 AM

@wissox I still believe in joe. Just can’t help myself. Bobby is real good. Zach can play but just isn’t a great fit right now. Upside all over the place. Agreed that they are young and raw right now though.

Box Score Musings • Nov 08, 2022 02:30 AM

Hmm… I’m honestly not overly concerned about depth because I feel like we have legit power 5 player all the way down the bench. The only question would be another wing. Because Kevin, Dick and Wilson are all super important to this team it seems to me.

Peyton Manning Game Thread • Nov 08, 2022 02:21 AM

@BShark it wasn’t close but he did take it without hesitation.

Peyton Manning Game Thread • Nov 08, 2022 02:21 AM

Is this concerning to anyone else? Not loving those comparisons.

Peyton Manning Game Thread • Nov 08, 2022 02:18 AM

@BShark you didn’t like his 3 attempt?!

Peyton Manning Game Thread • Nov 08, 2022 02:15 AM

@kuballin10 I didn’t see that get said. Interesting.

Peyton Manning Game Thread • Nov 08, 2022 02:14 AM

@BShark and self often trims it to 7 by the end of the year.

Peyton Manning Game Thread • Nov 08, 2022 02:13 AM

@kuballin10 is norm a hall of famer?

Peyton Manning Game Thread • Nov 08, 2022 02:10 AM

@FarmerJayhawk I think joe will continue to see the floor. Just to see if he’s hot.

Peyton Manning Game Thread • Nov 08, 2022 02:03 AM

Love Bobby.

Peyton Manning Game Thread • Nov 08, 2022 02:00 AM

@approxinfinity that development was so fast. Not sure anyone can develop that kind of footwork that fast again.

Peyton Manning Game Thread • Nov 08, 2022 01:58 AM

I think we are seeing why zuby hasn’t seen a lot of early run.

Peyton Manning Game Thread • Nov 08, 2022 01:54 AM

@DanR said in Peyton Manning Game Thread:

Udeh is Self's perfect big man. If he can learn the offensive sets and rebound, he's going to be the guy

Gonna need to learn how to post up well enough to at least catch the entry pass. He will get there.

Good god. Dick.
