This KU team is deeper than we've had in quite a while.
I was snarky about Vitale last night. He's not the same announcer he used to be. Some guys become more charming with age, but he's kind of becoming more irritating.
Maybe I'm not being fair. But he can't hide his excitement about Kentucky and Duke -- more than he has for either KU or MSU. They were walking through the tunnel and he about ruptured his aorta.
Izzo is a fine coach. I'll admit Coach K is too. I'm a bit dubious about Cal, but I try not to disparage these guys, and I don't throw stones at other programs (other than Mizzou) because I don't want the stones thrown our way (e.g. FBI investigations).
Whether ESPN intends to be biased or not, there is clear favoritism toward ACC and SEC... and even Big East. They are based on the east coast and they know where the population centers are. It is what it is. Fortunately, KU has been competitive despite being a time zone away. Imagine being a fan of a team in the mountain or pacific zone.
At least we can say that the program moved forward -- if only slightly -- under Beaty. Not sure any coach since Mangino can say the same.
I give him credit because the energy necessary to reverse a downward trend is significant.
I think MSU didn't/couldn't prepare for this kind of KU team. We are so different from the type of team we were last year and really the past couple.
Thank God they are shooting less than 75% from FT
Vitale has to change his pants.
Wow. Not what I expected.
This is a confident team.
How many blocks already this half?
This offense is not working vick in very well. They tried that one set play for a dunk out of the time out that was muffed. Otherwise he's nearly invisible
LOVE the REBOUNDING EFFORT
I had the same thought.
@DanR LOL
man, free throws are not pretty on either side. hard to believe we're winning that aspect.
freshmen mistake.
he just pushed ward a bit too obviously.
@StLJhawk Yeah, I didn't know what to expect given the changes.. This is a pleasant surprise so far.
Grimes is legit.
our size alone will beat a ton of teams.
wish they'd look for vick a bit more.
We're very quick in the half-court.. And our rebounding is much better than last year.
that's about 30% of their points.
that's about 30% of their points.
at least 6 points
we are getting beat in transition.
They typically will come around and even it up.. But right now, we're flourishing despite the calls.
Well, we shall see if this team can play with a lead.
that was a move!
Grimes looks pretty good early on.
Finally. the season starts and the noise can subside.
Duke 73, Kentucky 68

heh
@BShark Maybe.. or maybe the optics are bad if he plays any game until the clouds have lifted on him and the program..

In my estimation, this is the biggest issue.
When Trump selected him, I watched and thought that he had picked a pretty good guy. His credentials were impressive and he sold me on the presentation with the kids and wife all in a tight group.
Looked pretty good at the time. Now I feel deceived.
If he had owned up to his reputation as Bush had, this trickle of information about his beer-bashing past would not have seemed so dissonant.
His attempt to misrepresent himself is a very real concern that doesn't rely on any corroboration or FBI investigation. It was there for my very own two eyes to see.
Deceit, distortion... these are characteristics that should be instant disqualifiers for Supreme Court justice.
Blowing out a bad Rutgers team still felt good. The bottom of the Big12 (not counting KU) has been decent and most of the teams have been quite good.
In the final 2017 ranking (Athlon Sports & Life), KUs Big12 opponents were ranked: 4) OU, 11) TCU, 16) OkSt, 30) Iowa State, 36) Texas, 41) K-State, 46) WVU, 64) TTU, 102) Baylor. I don't know anything about Athlon, it was just easy to find on Google. I'm assuming other rankings won't be wildly off from this.
My point is, I would be surprised if we've played any conference opponent outside of the top 120 the last 5 years. Last year there were 7 teams in the top 50. That means to get 2 wins in conference, you have to be a top 60ish team. My guess is that KU has not been a top 100 team in the past 8-9 years. We could be top 75 and still get only 1 conference wins given the strength of the conference.
The year that KU gets 2 wins in the Big 12, the conference will appear "weak" and all teams will be punished in the rankings.
@Crimsonorblue22 Not yet... but it's getting there.
@mayjay Well, this was when I returned to KU for grad school, but yeah... I would like to think I'm young :-)
Yea! It's the start of basketball season! (or at least camp.)
One surprise upset (OU/OSU/WVU/TCU/Texas) combined with at least one more reachable victory (Baylor/KSU/TT/ISU) would be enough for me to believe they have improved significantly (assuming they are competitive in the other games).
Ok.. one more that has a cool story... The sports reporter for the Kansan got Dick Vitale to sign this one for me.
All, I'm cleaning out the garage.. finding lots of old KU stuff.
Memories.
Thought I'd share a few and see if anyone wants to do the same.
I'll start with some posters I created back when I worked at the UDK. Let me know if you remember them.
I found a Kansas Ultimate frisbee and my old glass beer mug from The Hawk...
There have been a lot of great QBs in a Chiefs uniform... just very few wore it in their prime.
It's a long season and I don't want to get in front of myself, but this is something to get excited about for sure! Chiefs can compete with anyone right now. Could we be looking at Chiefs and Rams down the road?
@KUSTEVE Just fyi-- that's an April fools joke. It doesn't actually work.
Very elaborate hoax.
they forgot Fortnite.
...but - but - but... Nicholls isn't even a state.

You want to know why I'm full on against Libs/DNC? For eight years I got called a racist because I didn't vote for Obama. There's your answer. Oh and it wasn't conservatives and Reps.
Assuming you are not a racist and that is not the reason you didn’t vote for Obama, you should not have been shamed for voting for another candidate. Reasonable folks should understand there are ample reasons to not vote for Obama that have nothing to do with his heritage.
I am sorry that happened to you.
Whoever did that was wrong. It is small-minded to pursuade through shame.
But, as I was told as a kid: “Two wrongs don’t make a right.”
I hope you can be bigger than those folks and find a way to let the anger pass.

I guess I don't understand the point why I'm being forced fed this pic?
Man that must hurt?
Oh wait the Rasmussen is a fake polls? Lmao.
Sorry, I don’t understand your response.
I am not force-feeding anything. Feel free to turn your head and look away.
(The truth will set you free...?)
Nothing typical about that photo.
It was their decision to wear the shirts and they seem to wear them with pride.
I don’t intend to paint anyone into a group nor make sweeping judgements about anyone or anything based on that photo.
Yet by implicating the media or the DNC, you are.
What is disturbing to me is that anyone would have such vehement feelings toward fellow Americans that they would feel the need to make this expression.
We seem to have fallen a long long way away from each other in a short amount of time.
I can’t help but wonder what in the world we are missing as our attention is focused on attacking at each other.
I still remember when Republicans and Democrats were BOTH Americans. That should be a common bond.
But common ground is eroding as folks intensify their identity on narrower and narrower interests.
The success of outside efforts to polarize the country can be no better illustrated than by this photograph.
