Several KU players interviewed over the Summer indicated Moore is the best 3 point shooter in the team, the area where KU is not loaded like previous years. He might be the right player for situations when a 3 point shooter is needed.

I was thinking this as well. Then I thought about defense. I just don’t see big minutes in Charlie’s future unless he’s better at D than advertised.

Preseason Media Source Question.... • Oct 10, 2018 02:42 PM

If you’re like some of my friends you can get a jailbroke fire stick and watch everything for free. I like to keep it quasi-legal.

Preseason Media Source Question.... • Oct 10, 2018 02:40 PM

DirecTV now was offering a free Apple TV 4k (32 gb) for free with 3 months paid subscription ($105 at the time) but the promo was scrapped Sept. 4. Maybe they will resurrect that deal in the future. I was able to snag one, should’ve gotten two.

Preseason Media Source Question.... • Oct 10, 2018 01:48 PM

DirecTV is okay. It didnt have all the KU games under the old contract. I’m not sure about now. DirecTV now is even less expensive and will get you the same amount of games if that’s your concern. I ditched cable a few years back and don’t miss it. I stream pretty much everything. My 3 year old gets upset at his grandma’s place when commercials come on haha only place he has to put up with them.

ESPN+ at $5 per month and an antenna will get you almost all the games. It seems like there’s usually one on cbsSports or fox sports in past years. I can’t pick up even regular cbs with an antenna so I just watch those games at Moms place or the bar.

Netflix is a cheap option for movies. Hulu is a cheap option for tv shows. I prefer to just go to (blu-ray.com) https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=220953&goto=newpost ↗ and buy the movie codes for rental prices and own a digital copy (forever?). I’ve been able to amass 1600 movies and 200 tv series over the last few years thru this site to stream on VUDU and don’t even use Netflix other than for cartoons for the kiddos.

At $220 per month you could purchase at least 44 movies per month in blu-Ray.com. Prices range from $1-8 per movie (up to $10 for Disney and uhd on release day, but prices soften fast) and $5-15 per tv season.

@Kcmatt7 box scores are what i grew up on and what i fall back on. The time investment for sports is too great at this juncture. I’m stoked about the Chiefs, but have only watched highlights. I really only make time for KU bball. I’ll watch every minute of those games!

Playoffs • Oct 09, 2018 04:53 PM

Football does a great job of filling in the void between plays. There’s only about 15 minutes of actual action in a 3 hour football game.

Playoffs • Oct 09, 2018 04:51 PM

@Kcmatt7 haha its called sports center. Only way to watch multiple games action without a nap.

I miss Max. I always muted the tv and listened to Max when he was calling the games.

Best Passer... EVER • Oct 09, 2018 02:25 PM

I keep seeing the header and thinking it’s an overreaction to Mahomes. Then I realize @KUSteve posted it and is a Texans fan...and it’s about KU basketball.

FBI...here we go • Oct 08, 2018 05:15 PM

@Kcmatt7 Better than Jamari, but definitely raw. Silvio has more upsides imho. I think he could be one heck of a college player if given the chance. I don’t see how a guy not good enough to start craters your season though.

FBI...here we go • Oct 08, 2018 05:13 PM

With Silvio KU is a pre-season top 2 team. Without Silvio it’s a pre-season top 5 team. The sky is definitely falling. Lol

FBI...here we go • Oct 08, 2018 02:25 PM

@BeddieKU23 Silvio is a very nice backup post player. McCormack is a step down, but a nice backup post player. Mitch is a different type of player and a step down from Silvio, but also a serviceable backup big. It should work out, the team is well constructed.

Gonna be fun to watch.

@kjayhawks yes. I always figure the guys would build chemistry over the summer. Doesn’t always show in the late night setting though. I wouldn’t look for a high low, just some good two man action.

Tonight!!! • Sep 29, 2018 03:07 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 You’d think the returning players wouldn’t forget every set over the summer though. You are right it’s the same every year. Exception being that time JoJo messed around too much and actually got chewed out by Self for his Late Night performance. Gotta be a first.

Kansas hosts long list of high-level recruits

The biggest weekend across the country takes place in Lawrence. Late Night at the Phog is generally the focal point of Kansas' recruiting calendar in the fall, and this year is no exception. Bill Self is welcoming a slew of top targets, starting with No. 1 senior James Wiseman.

Wiseman's recruitment is viewed as a Memphis vs. Kentucky battle, but he and his family have insisted all along it's not a two-team race and other schools are in the mix. Kansas is one of them, and Self will get his shot this weekend. Five-star guard Cassius Stanley (No. 25) cut his list to three schools last week, leaving UCLA, Kansas and Oregon vying for his services. USC was left off the list, to the surprise of some. There's no clear leader of the three remaining schools, but UCLA quietly has some momentum.

Another key visitor and longtime target is in-state center Jeremiah Robinson-Earl (No. 38). Robinson-Earl grew up less than an hour from campus and his father played at Kansas for Roy Williams. He is now at IMG Academy (Florida) for his senior season, but Kansas is still in solid position. His recruitment is shaping up as a Kansas-North Carolina battle, and he visited Chapel Hill last weekend.

While those three are the ones to watch in Lawrence this weekend, there's much more. Elite junior R.J. Hampton (No. 7 in 2020) will take his official visit after going to Memphis two weeks ago, and recent commit Christian Braun is also expected on campus. ESPN 100 forward Chandler Lawson (No. 58) and his younger brother, five-star sophomore Johnathan Lawson (No. 21 in 2021), will be at Late Night (their older brothers, Dedric and K.J. will suit up for the Jayhawks this season), and 2019 forward Anthony Walker and five-star junior N'Faly Dante (No. 13) are also taking visits. Kansas football coach David Beaty said earlier this week that rapper 2 Chainz is set to perform.

James Wiseman prediction: Memphis
Confidence level: 55 percent
Others in the mix: Kentucky, Kansas, Vanderbilt, Florida State

Cassius Stanley prediction: UCLA
Confidence level: 40 percent
Others in the mix: Kansas, Oregon

Jeremiah Robinson-Earl prediction: Kansas
Confidence level: 60 percent
Others in the mix: North Carolina, Arizona, Notre Dame, Villanova

Teaser:

ALL OF COLLEGE basketball will be focused on a New York courtroom starting Monday, as the government argues its case in the biggest bribery and corruption scandal in the sport's history.

One year ago, FBI agents arrested 10 men after a clandestine two-year investigation. Three of the eight remaining defendants -- Adidas executive James Gatto, Adidas consultant Merl Code and Christian Dawkins, a former AAU director and runner for a well-known NBA agent -- are the first to be tried, on charges that they conspired to pay high school prospects and/or their families to sign with Adidas-sponsored schools Kansas, Louisville, Miami and North Carolina State.

James Gatto: Gatto, the director of global sports marketing for basketball at Adidas, is specifically accused of approving sham invoices to conceal illicit payments to players' families. The New York native has worked at Adidas since 1993; he was placed on leave shortly after his arrest. His father, Jim Gatto, was a longtime high school basketball coach in New York. Gatto is charged with six felony counts related to attempt and conspiracy to commit wire fraud. He is the only one of the three defendants accused of involvement in a scheme involving Kansas recruits.

Kansas: The government alleges that between October 2016 and November 2017, Gatto conspired with Adidas consultant T.J. Gassnola and others to funnel at least $90,000 to Kansas prospect Billy Preston's mother. The complaint says money was funneled through an AAU team controlled by Gassnola and through sham invoices approved by Gatto.

The government says Gassnola facilitated the cash payments to Preston's mother, Nicole Player, including a $30,000 payment delivered in a New York hotel room on Oct. 31, 2016, and $20,000 paid in a Las Vegas hotel room on Jan. 19, 2017.

Gatto, Gassnola and others are also accused of conspiring to make cash payments to the guardian of Kansas prospect Silvio De Sousa to help him get "out from under" a deal to sign with a school sponsored by a different sneaker company. On Sept. 11, 2017, according to the complaint, Gassnola told Gatto during a telephone conversation that he would need to make "another $20,000 payment" to De Sousa's guardian, Fenny Falmagne. Falmagne has denied receiving any money.

In July, Kansas officials acknowledged that the university had received two federal subpoenas to produce materials and have school officials testify to a grand jury.

Silvio De Sousa: A native of Angola, De Sousa moved to the U.S. before his freshman year of high school. He transferred to IMG Academy in Florida in the summer of 2016, then reclassified and graduated early to join the Jayhawks in late December 2017. De Sousa, a 6-foot-9 forward, averaged 8.8 minutes in 20 games at Kansas last season. He scored seven points and grabbed seven rebounds in 10 minutes in the national semifinal loss to Villanova.

Billy Preston: Preston, ranked 18th overall and fourth among power forwards in the 2017 ESPN Top 100, did not play in a game for the Jayhawks last season because of eligibility concerns. He was held out of 17 games while the university looked into the "financial picture" of a vehicle he wrecked on campus. He turned pro on Jan. 20 and signed a contract with BC Igokea of Bosnia. Preston wasn't selected in June's NBA draft but signed a two-way contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The secondary needs major help, but with that offense the Chiefs don’t need a dominant D, just a competent one. Another playmaker on D would be huge.

Adam Teicher-
Andy Reid wouldn't talk specifically about Seattle's unhappy safety, Earl Thomas, and whether the Chiefs would be interested in trading for him. But he seemed to indicate they're not in that market when he said in talking about trades in general: "I know the rumors are out there but that's not where we're at.''

I hope Big Red is running a misdirection play here.

Kind of in line with my thinking. KU should be able to give Baylor, KSU, and Tech a game. Kansas should be able to compete with ISU and Texas if they have a bad day.

Now we shall see if the team competes hard and lives up to those modest expectations.

I’d love to have a 1996-97 official signed basketball. That was my bench mark as a kid. Never should’ve lost to MU. Should’ve been an undefeated season.
