@REHawk I think itâs just the least painful way to re-initiate the series. They are dipping a toe in the water, breaking the ice, whatever cliche you prefer. But itâs a pre-curser to a new on-going series while itâs still fresh enough to be able to be revived.
I still say KU owes MU nothing. There better be a big payday for Kansas somehow (experience, money, national exposure, recruiting).

I wonder if Garrett will play more 4 or 1? My money is he sees very few minutes at the 1 (<5%) some at the 2 (20%) Most of his minutes at the 3 (50%) And a few at the 4. (25%)

Why not do the hockey thing and draft kids for their rights and designate them to college for another year or two to develop? Won't happen as it could make corruption worse I suppose, but it's another option.
I thought Alexander was coming on strong. He finally looked like he was figuring it out and was reported to be the best player in practice about the time he got shut down. Year two wouldâve been nice, but his family screwed him out of that not Bill Self.

Beaty is underwhelming, but he still needs 5-6 years to be given a true shot. He started in such a hole the first year shouldnât count against him and the next recruiting class finally looks decent. The problem is, the on the field product isnât improving very quickly and we all have the desire to see it fixed now!
@BShark I know which class Iâd take â05 vs â13 given the results. The â13 class is making more money, but they werenât nearly as successful in college.
3 top 10 guys in â13 = 10 losses and an early exit. It was just too young of a team. I hope we donât run into that problem again after next year.
And yes the â13 class on paper is def. the best class after Embiid jumped up so high late in the recruiting cycle. Selden was a bit high at #6 imho.

You clearly want to see the MU vs. KU game happen. I do not. I would rather see the WSU vs KU game happen. I feel WSU is a more appealing and worthy opponent it seems you do not. You imply the largest city in kansas with the wealthiest family in the state (Koch) couldnât muster the same finiacial support that KC missouri fans would bring to the table. Nevermind that KU already owns the big money in KC, but playing MU is just splitting the same city. Financially there is no major upside to playing MU vs. WSU. If a team is to benefit from the matchup itâs whomever plays against KU, so why lend a hand to MU instead of an in-state top 10 team? People from Wichita would travel much further than 3 hours to watch WSU play KU.
Hell, tell the Kochâs that KU will play WSU in Wichita if they will donate $1millon. Donât tell me they wouldnât be able generate $1,000,000 in donations in 48 hours in Wichita for that. And then the gate procedes go on top of that. Zenger is a moron. Lou wouldâve been able to generate 5x the money if he so desired.
Please try not to accuse people of being selfish or unwilling to donate to charity just because they donât want to donate the way you do. Itâs simply a bullying tactic that will make many dig in to positions counter you just to be contradictory to your stance. Canât side with you so they must be against you by default. (Us vs. them dichotomy as approx has pointed out.)

The hyperbole about KUâs best class ever (not @buckets but elsewhere) is a bit pre-mature. The Chalmers, Rush, Arthur, Downs class was pretty nice. Esp. Following another top 5 class with all the players returning.
I have a hard time believing Bill didnât realize what was going on or that charity ball events are possible. Jaded I guess. But Iâve lost a ton of respect for Bill over this one. Just last year he was never going to play MU again as long as he had a say in it. Iâd rather this was forced upon the program by the powers that be, than Billâs idea (or his Dadâs). I hate everything about it. He had better win a ton of games in March to pay for the collateral damage.
I wonder how many people who logistically canât make it to a game would simply donate if asked? Maybe Iâm missing it, but I still havenât seen either university ask for cash donations. And if so when did this start? On day one or just this week? So I donât feel as though the intentions are sincere which further increases my unwillingness to play Missouri.

There are over 300 other Basketball teams that KU could play to accomplish the same goal. I feel KU could make MORE just by playing in Allen Fieldhouse and then they could control 100% of the costs to ensure the money gets where it is supposed to go. If itâs truly for charity wouldnât UNC like some good pub about now? Or how about Kentucky/ Duke? Would they publicly pass on an opportunity to raise money for charity? How about playing Texas in Texas to raise money for Texans? I donât see a good argument FOR missouri therefore I donât see a need to further denounce them. (Game of throneâs reference here) Itâs like the people who like the Lannisters. It doesnât matter how dastardly they are the temptations are too great to stay away for the weak willed.

I had no idea there was such support for MU here, kinda makes me sick. Showing true colors??? Personally Iâd rather see them burn (along with Nebraska, Colorado, and Tamu). Now how can KU say no when the SEC/Big12 challenge wants to pair them in the future? I know I rather see KU play Kentucky or Florida than Missouri.
How much money could this game raise? $200,000-500,000? $50/ ticket at 22,000 seats (price it any higher and it will be mostly empty) Gotta pay the staff and police for crowd control. Itâs not fair to ask the tax payers of KC to pay for this charity event.
I still say Bill could raise over a $ million just by asking for donations and 100% of it would go to the charity.

Athleticism and skills are two different things. There are great athletes that are terrible players and vice versa. Athleticism is a good way to determine if someone's ceiling can be raised, but that's by increasing their skills to match the athleticism.
Vince Young is one of the most athletic freaks on the planet, but he lacks the decision making process to succeed in spite of overwhelming athleticism. I loved the John Stockton example- he was a perennial NBA allstar. So he's an athlete of the highest caliber, but he was not very athletic. He was good due to incredible vision and ball handling skills. But that doesn't make him athletic, just a wonderful player.
Embiid is a rare, great combination of both. His extreme athleticism allows him to execute new moves nearly flawlessly. One of his extreme basketball skills is to be a sponge able to absorb and replicate moves he has studied for relatively short periods of time. Due to his amazing athleticism he is able to replicate any move tried before him...when will he start dropping new mind bending moves???
Another great athlete was Kenny Gregory, but he lacked the skills needed to be successful at the next level.

@HighEliteMajorI think every community should have at least one ultra rich person/family. If they are altruistic all will benefit. There is a resident Billionaire in Garden City Kansas who just put up the bulk of the cash needed for a massive shopping center to go in. His investment into the community allowed - Menards, PetCo, Hobby Lobby, Rib Crib, Dick's sporting goods, Old Chicago, and a half dozen other businesses a place to land in Garden City. In a town of 30,000 people that is huge!
I stand by my statement though, many of the Super rich I've met get to a point that the money is just a collection. And just like any hardcore collector they can't wait to add to the collection. Most lottery winners/Pro athletes don't have the same long term goals or ability to protect the wealth.
Ultra rich can provide opportunities for others on a scale people of normal wealth can't touch, but NBA ballers are much better for the strip clubs...And for short term economic benefit. The players are pretty much a local economic stimulus package.
@Bshark So what would be better Grimes in year one or Newman in his 3rd year in the system? I have a hard time believing Newman will be back, but I can understand Grimes' hesitation. From my viewpoint I'd like to see Newman come back for a second year on the court over Grimes or Dotson any day of the week. ...Unless that means he came back to avenge a season ending loss.
