It may be obscene what the players make, but if they didn't get that money then it would just all go the the Billionaire owners. It's not like it would magically go to teachers and doctors instead. This is really the best thing for the short term as far as an economical stimulus. The players have famously lavish spending habits- they are very good for the local economy! Billionaires don't typically blow money that way. You just figure whatever the salary cap is a large percentage of that money will be spent whereas if the Billionaires still possessed that money it would just go on their Scrooge McDuck money pile.
Frank's hard work and the good coaching he received for ahem four years are really paying off!
If Zion or Grimes end up picking KU this early decision may favor KU. I'm not saying Devin will land at KU, just KU having no high profile 1-3 commits yet helps.
Dotson and Grimes would be a great tandem in my opinion. I hope it plays out.
Man that team is going to have a lot of fresh faces.
@mayjay and a swing and a miss.
It sounds like Arizona's loss willl be Kentucky's gain (or possibly Oregon). Bummer. I'd rather watch Stumpy screw up unscrupulous talent than Cal succeed with it.
@BShark Watching Conley's Achilles rupture was brutal. Esp. since it was in garbage time. Watching Deshaun pad his stats was gross (in garbage time). Wtf D, don't quit early.
@wissox Good find! I really liked this excerpt:
The fact Mason led the Kings in points and rebounds comes as only a mild surprise. Four years playing for the Kansas Jayhawks, one of the nation’s elite major college programs, has inherent benefits. Top competition. NCAA Tournament appearances guaranteed. Exceptional coaching.
“Frank is more ready to play than most rookies,” Kings general manager Vlade Divac said. “I was really surprised that he was available for us (34th overall pick). We thought he was going to be taken in the first round. Obviously, the NBA is different, and it’s going to take some time. But we like what we see.”
Only two post players (Lightfoot is more of an unskilled guard). Where do they (Dok, Preston) get breathers? 4 guard lineup looks like it will get more play than I expected sans Josh. Josh really made it work, i don't think Svi can guard the post (or any position) nearly as well.
It may get ugly as this team finds itself.
Two wrongs don't make a right.
Let's try and move on please. I think we can have better basketball discussions than this.
Colquit is nice. A weapon even, under Herm...
Having a poor kicker sucks. It's terrible to lose a football game for non football reasons (kicking). The playoff game against Indy that the Chiefs kicker, Lin Elliot, missed from 35, 39, and 42 yards in a 10-7 loss makes me think kickers are overly important given they don't play football. Kicking is it's own mini-game within the game.
I was ready to fire butt-kicker dot com after his first miss, but he nailed his last 3 attempts.
@BShark That would make my day!
@mayjay ahem kitten?
I'd say stay safe out there, but you can't prepare for this.
What the hell is wrong with people? No respect for human life other than their own...

Please no politics just prayers.
Dotson and Langford and/or Grimes? would be very nice!
@BShark anything eminent?
Didn't Perry more or less play the 3 while labeled a 4 his Sr. year? Before it officially morphed into the 4-1.
@JayHawkFanToo Or it could be like Pitino and he was telling the Adidas guy whom to pay.
How about Capel at Duke? They've really had an upswing in recruiting the last several years. Hmm
I know nothing about recruiting other than Silvio DeSousa is KU's to lose.
@hawkfanforever DishNetwork sucks I'm not positive but I assume DirectTV has the same channel line-up. No Jayhawk TV and as a bonus you won't be able to watch them on ESPN 3 as She-man Zenghole has them blocked out across Kansas and the KC area. I dropped the Dish in favor of internet tv.
You can get sling for $20 per month and see the same amount of games as on Dish. All you need is ESPN and the local channels.
You should get a bunch of channels if you live in KC maybe even the Jayhawk network. Before signing a 2 year contract you will live to regret try out a decent antenna first, you may be surprised.
Edit: I had DirecTV not DishNetwork. DirecTV is better than DishNetwork, but not better than cable for KU bball games.
We shall see if Bill's competitive fire will allow him to retire so soon. I think it sounds good to him today, but we shall see what actually happens. I'm afraid if he retires that soon he'll pull a Dick Vermeil and come back after a year off (and dear God I'd hate for it to be to Missouri!).
@kjayhawks I actually agree with others. Beaty needs 5 years minimum. He started in a two year hole. It would screw over the next coach to fire Beaty at this point. Lets see how far he can take the team with all his guys. At some point you have to sink or swim, but he really started at a disadvantage with that depleted roster.
I too like the stadium location. Renovate/demolish and rebuild right there.
Does Brent Venables want a job? It's going to take an upgrade on the field to fill that nice newly proposed stadium. I hope it happpen (stadium renovation) and soon. It sure couldn't hurt recruiting, but I doubt it'd make a huge difference either. Really the only way to put butts in the seats for more than one game is to win.
Svi is definitely not a banger.
@jayballer54 I wasn't disagreeing with ya. I just was wondering what you were basing your opinion on. I have no info one way or the other. There has been zero back and forth between us, I have read this whole thread and was wondering where you were coming from. Here I was hopeful that you'd have a link to read or some positive distraction. That's all.
Wait a minute, why let Beaty off the hook? It's not likely to get better for another coach either. Make him wallow in this misery or fix it himself. No easy way out, Kevin Durant wouldn't work as our coach...
KU needs to offer Saban, Urban Meyer, or Harbaugh $15-20 million per year to clean up this mess. There is no other quick fix.
Ok so @jayballer54 I'm curious why you are so certain about where Dave isn't going? You've stated several times that's what you believe, but haven't supported your argument. Just assume I haven't read any of the recruiting stuff from the crystal ball (as I think it's bunk) don't pay for 247 sports (why would I?) and only get info from free internet sources that hopefully don't contain a million viruses (ESPN and KUSports mainly). So what information that is making you so confident that McCormack is going to one school or another? I haven't seen anything that leads me to believe one way or another just curious what your thoughts are.
@BShark ok after your mini-stroke?
Time to try another topic.
Joel Embiid tiers: Projecting the NBA's least predictable season ↗
Fun ESPN insider article.

Tier 1: The birth of a superstar
What if Embiid stays healthy and gets better?

Who is primed to leap into the top 10 next? Our 5-on-5 crew debates and predicts which young players are on the verge of NBA stardom.
Still a superstar? Melo falls out of top 50 in #NBArank
Carmelo Anthony's gradual fall from the elite accelerated this year, as the in-limbo Knicks star failed to crack the top 60 in #NBArank. Can he still contribute at a high level to a winning team?
NBA calendar: Every important date from now until the playoffs
Here's our guide to every key date and deadline that will shape roster decisions from now until the postseason.
In this world, Embiid plays at least 75 games and cracks 30 MPG. As Ben Simmons and Markelle Fultz take on a large percentage of the playmaking, Embiid's massive 16.3 percent turnover rate subsides, which works wonders for his efficiency ratings. With JJ Redick also in town, defenses can't close on Embiid as they did last season. There are fewer shots to go around, but he responds by elevating his field goal percentage from 47 percent to 53 percent, the league average for starting centers.
Last season, the 76ers allowed just 99.1 points per 100 possessions with him on the floor, a figure that would have ranked No. 1 in the NBA over the course of the entire season. Once again, he has the same impact, only now it's for far more than just 20 percent of the team's total minutes. At 30 minutes per game over 75 games, Embiid is on the floor for 57 percent of the team's minutes, which is enough to vault the 76ers from 17th to inside the top 10 in defensive rating.
The end result: 23.9 PPG, 9.3 RPG and 3.0 BPG, plus a trip to Los Angeles for the All-Star Game. With turnovers cut in half and increased efficiency, Embiid would be squarely in the top-10 conversation, though not yet knocking on the top-5 door as Philadelphia simply has too far to climb to warrant consideration for the truly top tier of superstar players.
Assuming he doesn't reach an extension with the 76ers before the Oct. 16 deadline and hits restricted free agency next summer, he's be able to command any offer he wants.
Well Central Michigan messed up KU's playoff hopes. Darn, maybe next year.
Only one transfer allowed? If that's the case I'd only want Bill to recruit known talents and oads. By known talents I mean college players on other teams. F it embrace transfer U. It weakens the competition while strengthening your team. Plus Bill could kick any bums out and make it look like he transferred of his own accord.
Did you rob Bill's family photo album? Great pic as usual @wrwlumpy
I can't imagine the recruiting headaches Bill would have and the stress us fans would go through every year. It'd be like when the Morri left every stinking year.
I do think coaches should be made to honor their contracts. A 5 year deal means no coaching elsewhere for 5 years unless the school terminates the contract. Then your left paying Weis for years...
@kjayhawks That's my fear as well. We shall see
Instant gratification is rarely best. Travis Releford was instrumental to KUs success late in his career, but didn't play much early. Russell Robinson would've bolted after one year and not been a national champ (nor would ku in 08) I'm not sure why people are afraid of commitment? If the coach leaves players are generally granted a release and if they haven't made it to practice yet they are allowed to play on day one at the new school.
These young adults need to be responsible for upholding their end of the bargain. They are essentially getting paid $18 an hour for 40 hour weeks year round without actually putting in that much time. ($37500 scholarship/year)
Big10 looks pretty salty this year. Alabama may be the best team in the country, but the Big10 looks like the best conference with OSU, PennState, Michigan and Wisconsin all top 10 teams. The Big12 is lagging quiet a bit with only OU looking respectable so far.
One year too late to nab Robinson.
I think KU will be better off having had Newman and the Lawson's practice for a year before playing a minute. I wish all oad's had a year of practice with the team first, but obviously that's not happening.
TRob was a beast. He didn't play defense consistently, but he always rebounded well and would throw the ball down with authority. Robinson had no jumper though.
Simien was a good rebounder and had a good jump shot. Great free throw shooter. Never lazed around on d or o. Good off the court leadership ability also.
The main deciding factor for me is the jumpshot. Poor defensive effort by TRob (probably to save on fouling) is also a big factor. Both players were fantastic for KU and I'd gladly take another of each.
@KUSTEVE TRob was pretty limited offensively. I hope Silvio is more well rounded, but we shall see.
(Love me some TRob, but Simien was better.)
@mayjay Right and I had a great uncle who went to WWII 5'7" and returned 6'3". It happens, but it's so freaking rare that those expamples stick out. That's why I said he's "likely" done growing; not he's absolutely, 100" for sure, no way in the world growing. (And why you said probably)
@BShark said, and the article said, and as clearly as my limited writing skills allow me to convey the true meaning of what I said: Silvio was measured at 6'7" barefoot two years ago and more recently at 6'9" in shoes.
My speculation is that Silvio is likely 6'8" barefoot now and done growing. 1" of growth over a two year period from 17-19 = no reason to believe he'd grow more. Svi hasn't grown since he arrived at age 16.
(My great uncle is not Steve Rodgers)
Jamari with skills would be nice. A point forward player would do really well in the high-low. Jamari almost got it, but he wasn't skilled enough. You'd see flashes where he'd drive the lane, but that was his limit.
I had a super nice football coach for a year also. We went from winning the league the year before to a 2 win team. Nice football coaches are doing you a disservice.
At Silvio's age (19) he likely is done growing, so what you see is what you get regardless of measurements.
6 top 10 players in 2 years for Duke. 9 in 3 years. Wowza.

Final game loss complaining, politics, and lack of basketball news has driven most away. When the games start back up most will be back.

Supposedly 6'7" 2 years ago and 6'9" in shoes recently. Cole Aldrich 1.5" shoes?
That 6'7'' was without shoes and legit. He's probably grown a bit since then. Let's see what KU lists him at and how he compares. My guess it 6'8'' seems fairly likely.
Right, but that's not funny. Remember Cole's measurement at the combine? 6'9" in shoes 6'7.5" barefoot.
Normally shoes only add 1" not 1.5" I, apparently, am easily amused.
