Chiefs Draft • Mar 27, 2023 06:47 PM

@AsadZ I’d sure like to see a DE drafted by the second round (probably an OT in the first) and a developmental interior DL in the later rounds. That idl from Texas (O something) mocks available 4-5th round.

@BShark Another high profile player I’m not interested in, UK’s Wheeler, is in the portal.

Any idea why he struggled so much the second half of last year?

NCAA NON- KU GAMES • Mar 27, 2023 02:49 PM

I enjoy the entire season. Some only value the last 6 games. To each their own.

NCAA NON- KU GAMES • Mar 27, 2023 12:56 PM

@benshawks08 I mean they could do worse. Terry beat KU twice, Beard has 3 wins against KU in 5 years. I wouldn’t be over the moon about this hire as Texas, but it could work out. I’d take Rodney over Norm any day of the week, but thankfully KU is not likely hire from within.

NCAA NON- KU GAMES • Mar 27, 2023 03:53 AM

@mayjay Yes I’m prejudiced. If it’s not KU basketball, to hell with it!

I don’t watch very many basketball games that don’t involve KU. I figure there are only so many hours I get to live, KU gets 99% of my basketball hours. The chiefs get 99% of my football viewership. I only have so many hours available to use on entertainment, I’m not wasting any on something I draw no enjoyment from. - I’ve only watched 2 tournament games this year. Some people live and breathe basketball, I live and breathe KU basketball.

NCAA NON- KU GAMES • Mar 27, 2023 12:31 AM

This years final four looks like a crappy preseason tournament that no one in their right mind would attend

He's very good at basketball.

Where’s he going? KU recruit him at all?

What’s the story with Matas Buzelis?

Who would ever replace Self? • Mar 26, 2023 12:39 PM

@BShark before I found out how used cars salesman sleazy Wade was I thought he was on a trajectory to end up coaching a blue blood. Might still happen. I’d wager Chris Beard will be coaching at a blue blood within 5 years.

Funniest KStater ever? • Mar 26, 2023 12:36 PM

ksu fans have a huge inferiority complex. Even in losses they must compare themselves to KU. While playing random other teams they chant about KU. KU owns so much headspace of the ksu fans it’s ridiculous.

NCAA NON- KU GAMES • Mar 25, 2023 12:38 PM

@Jethro It’s not like they had fake classes or paid players. Sheesh šŸ˜ College basketball is corrupt af. and only gonna get worse with the NIL business aspect.

NCAA NON- KU GAMES • Mar 23, 2023 12:42 PM

@wissox so you’re saying we get at least one easy conference game next year.

Alpha Kevin, 2023-2024 • Mar 23, 2023 12:21 PM

Udeh has oodles of potential. Why recruit over him instead of develop him? I think Earnest will be good next year and great the following year if he gets to play.

Chiefs Draft • Mar 23, 2023 02:29 AM

@Kcmatt7 Hard to say. Mahomes doesn’t really throw into traffic. He’s good at identifying the open receiver/area and really shies always from throwing contested catches.

2023 Transfer Portal • Mar 22, 2023 11:42 PM

@kjayhawks I’m curious to see how it all shakes out. My loyalty is to the university. I haven’t bought any nil merch and all I wear is Jayhawk t-shirts. The players come and go, but the mascot stays the same. I’m hopeful some form of stability comes about so the brand doesn’t become faded with little player loyalty currently (goes both ways).

@BeddieKU23 Assuming KJs growth is linear and not exponential, he should only score 100 points per game next season.

2023 Transfer Portal • Mar 21, 2023 03:52 PM

@wissox I’d propose an NCAA rule change regarding NIL moneys - create a NIL ā€œsalaryā€ cap that increases for each year in school as well as for each year that a player is at the same institution. Might help with competitive balance and would incentivize loyalty.

2023 Transfer Portal • Mar 21, 2023 12:45 PM

@BShark that lineup makes me feel ill. Thank god for Bill Self, no one is winning with that group that isn’t destined for the hall of fame.

@benshawks08 they’re in for one more year.

Alpha Kevin, 2023-2024 • Mar 21, 2023 02:15 AM

@approxinfinity as preferred NIL scholarship recipients. Run 16 deep. To heck with the 13 scholly limit.

2023 Transfer Portal • Mar 20, 2023 12:40 PM

@wissox I hate the lack of loyalty, but it goes both ways. I’m just glad that KU is in a position to take advantage of the transfer rules. Imagine if you’re saint marys school for the blind and you develop Shaq for a couple years before Duke buys him in free agency to win a championship.

Spoiled • Mar 20, 2023 12:34 PM

This wasn’t even a bad loss. No head coach, no bench, short on top end talent. They over achieved in the regular season, because of the coach. Bill is amazing and we are extremely lucky to have him. The Robert’s intern coaching job just goes to illustrate how darn good Bill is.

@BShark It almost seems like you’d be better off recruiting college players than high schoolers. Take 5-6 transfers and 1-2 quality freshmen. No time for disappearing acts on the big stage. Let some other team develop the players, then poach what you want with offers of glory and NIL money that the little schools can’t touch. It’s the Wild West of the free agency period in college basketball. The ncaa has no idea what unregulated payments will do. Hint it’s not spread the wealth. The current big boys will only get more exclusive and the bottom feeders will get markedly worse.

I saw this somewhere, and find it to be true.

ā€œThere aren’t any pros in the transfer portal.ā€

That’s why you add HS guys. You aren’t poaching many guys with NBA potential. You can win without those guys, but it’s significantly harder… I also think you can add better bench guys through HS. Plus good transfer portal guys are twice as hard to get. The line is longer and the NIL more expensive.

I’m not thinking of the NBA as the main measuring stick. Gradey is an NBA talent. Xavier was an nba player. McCullar is not. Remy is not. I’d say McCullar and Remy were far more impactful for KU. The draft is about filling the nba pipeline which is based on potential that may never be reached. College transfers are a proven commodity. I’d sure try to snag a few multi-year guys like Braun, Ochai to build your team around and establish culture. The OADs I’d prefer would be transfers if they aren’t top 10 talent.

We agree 100% about Musselman. The shirtless antics are not a great look for an institution of higher learning.

What will he do when he wins a really meaningful game?

Just be glad he’s named muscleman and not Richard.

I see folks say that Norm is a great assistant coach. What no one says is what they specifically find to be good about his coaching. What does Norm actually bring to the table? He doesn’t seem to be a big recruiter. He is certainly not head coach material - very little in game adjustments, no use of timeouts during an 11-0 run, etc. the evidence of him being a poor head coach is overwhelming by both record and eye test; what does he bring as an assistant?

I honestly never gave Norm much thought before his interim spat, but try as I might I can’t come up with what he brings to the table. Past assistants we could see what they did - Manning was good with bigs. Dooley was good at defensive principles. Snacks procured things. Townson is the bag man. Case seems to be a good recruiter and guards coach.

NCAA NON- KU GAMES • Mar 19, 2023 12:11 PM

While I won’t watch any more basketball this season, I’m rooting for Alabama. I want the NCAA to have to smile, about a kid who assisted in the murder of an innocent gal, winning it all. If there ever was a time for leadership to step in this would’ve been it. But they’re more worried about kids getting paid 6 years ago.

Hog Wild Game Thread • Mar 18, 2023 11:28 PM

Norm just didn’t make any adjustments. It’s ok unless he’s forced into being the coach again.

We need some athletes guys and gals. Council and Davis were easily the most athletic on the floor, that lead to several offensive rebounds. We need guys that play above the rim!!

I would not have guessed they were nba prospects based on this one game. Davis got his and obviously they’re talented judging by the hype, but they didn’t pop to me. Tbf Gradey didn’t exactly jump off the screen either.

@BShark Joe gets some run, but the freshmen may show him the door? I think Bobby loves Bill, would about have to push him out (just my perception).

Hog Wild Game Thread • Mar 18, 2023 11:20 PM

Buffered my expectations due to the wide ceiling/floor this team had. Really been more interested in next years roster construction of both KU and KC. Mahomes šŸ‘€ is must watch tv for moi.

Self would have substituted before a 11 pt lead evaporated.

He also would have been in the refs asses about how that game was called.

There is so much that goes into being a HC. Working the refs. Calling plays. Changing how you defend screens. All that good stuff.

Norm, for as great of an assistant as he is, is an assistant for a reason.

I’m beginning to question what exactly Norm brings to the team. It sure isn’t for lineup suggestions or set play input or really anything tangible as for in game adjustments.

Hog Wild Game Thread • Mar 18, 2023 10:52 PM

Shoot. We win this with the last set of refs. It was just a perfect storm of a decent team playing against a short handed Jayhawk team. Gradey’s disappearing act is why you don’t rely on freshmen. Not much of a KU legacy. Xavier like.
