Guy's let's see , try • Oct 05, 2019 02:47 AM

I predict Pooka gets going and we stay in the game for about 8 minutes lol. Oklahoma 63 Kansas 24. Late Night has brought more folks to town but I think after last weeks set back the best we could hope for 26,500 folks in the stands.

Guy's let's see , try • Oct 03, 2019 09:45 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 lets see if he wants to come to Lawrence lol

@nuleafjhawk Haha I enjoy your company. I'd be happy with Smacker, shes pretty cute. At least we would look better lol. In all seriousness the lack of development of the offensive line when we returned everyone but the center is a big disappointment. Pooka averaged 7 yards per carry with over 1000 yards while Herbert averaged 4.5 yards per carry and gained over 500 yards a year ago. It also was against 8 and 9 man boxes. I'd be shocked if Pooka didn't transfer if this keeps up, hopefully he doesn't do it mid season 12 hours before a game like Herbert.

Good for them to get some reps, I'm think Prox could red shirt if he's gonna miss 4 or 5 games.

@Texas-Hawk-10 I like the rule but it shouldnt count if you are transfering. That rule now that everyone has figured this out will be abused badly and make it much harder for us or anyone to rebuild.

Game Day Breakdown: KU football at TCU • Oct 01, 2019 12:15 AM

Ben Heeney called him out on Twitter and I agree with him. Call it whatever you want he quit on his team as Ben said.

So if Wendell Carter got prostitutes on his visits, wouldn't that be impermissible benefits and deem him ineligible? I mean it would at any other school. SDS is in trouble for stuff he didnt take from a school he didnt go to.

I saw a video on facebook Friday afternoon of the Jayhawks getting off the team plane in Fort Worth but it appears that was about all that went smoothly on the trip. It looked like the Jayhawks of old in the first half with just over 40 total yards and 38 points on the board for the home Horned Frogs. But Les Miles and Co with the aide of vanilla play calling from TCU were able to keep it from being a national embarrassment winning the second half 14-13. I was fairly surprised that the game wasn't closer but it is a good lesson for people that thought that this program would be an easy fix. Injuries at several key positions on defense and word that leading rusher Herbert wouldn't be making the trip as rumors of his transfer developed, this game was doomed from the get go. It wasn't hard to see the lack of depth or how out manned we still are in the trenches Saturday morning.

I probably take most issue with the offense and lack of creativity. The playing calling has rivaled that of David Beaty and its not hard to understand why its not working. You can have the best running back of all time and it wouldn't matter if he has break 2 tackles to get back to the line of scrimmage. Running simple draws over and over on 1st down hasn't worked all season outside of an obviously super weak BC team. I have not idea why we continue to do so or why we continue to ride Carter Stanley's coat tails. When has flatout sucked all but one game, obviously the QB wasn't even a contest at this point. But even if it wasn't what is the logical reasoning for not trying some else in the second half. I know this is a helleva rebuild and it's unfair to expected much in year one but I'd still like to see some progress.

Chiefs! • Sep 30, 2019 01:23 AM

The chiefs gotta feel both lucky and good after that one. Mahomes having an off day while still completing 57% of his throws and getting 300 plus yards speaks to the type of player he is, throw in 50 yards rushing. It's hard to be too discouraged with that. I wonder if the Dome threw him off, supposedly that was the first time he had played in one. Interesting that the lions had one safety back 25 yards pretty much the whole game to
prevent getting beat deep. But I think it gave Kelce a good amount of room to work with. Hold on to the football and make a FG it's probably a 13 - 17 point win. I know it 4 weeks in but the defense still looks shaky to me and will be the down fall of this team if huge strides ain't made sooner rather than later. The other issue was how much pressure the lions created with a 3 man rush that had 5 guys blocking most the time. I realize they have some guys hurt but that shouldn't at this level repeatedly.

Game Day Breakdown: KU football at TCU • Sep 30, 2019 12:59 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 I'm not sure he's a number 1 back for these better teams at the same time. He aint starting at Clemson, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Georgia, LSU or Texas. Like I said I'm 50-50 on it, I can see it but its tough to swallow with a guy that seemed so happy and love the place Wednesday on hawk talk.

Game Day Breakdown: KU football at TCU • Sep 29, 2019 04:24 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 he's getting plenty of carries. Most schools use 2 or 3 backs, one guy getting it 30 times is a thing of the past.

Game Day Breakdown: KU football at TCU • Sep 29, 2019 05:35 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 I'm 50-50 on him doing that. I get it because I think he'd be a solid RB at the next level, he'd fit well in New England or Green Bay IMO. But at the same time he wasnt a prized recruit and I'd like to think Tony Hull among other coached him up a bit.

Game Day Breakdown: KU football at TCU • Sep 28, 2019 09:54 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 not a chance we'd smoke those teams by 60. About 5 players for each team will play D1 ball.

Game Day Breakdown: KU football at TCU • Sep 28, 2019 07:58 PM

Pretty classy move there Patterson hopefully in a few years we can return the favor. I'm completely shocked as to why Stanley played the whole game, he missed long on 2 sure fire TDs.

Game Day Breakdown: KU football at TCU • Sep 28, 2019 06:02 PM

@bskeet I have to laugh at something besides our team attempting to play football

Game Day Breakdown: KU football at TCU • Sep 28, 2019 05:58 PM

One of the roughest weeks for Kansas Athletics in recent memory with NCAA announcement and this Jack ass festival in Fort Worth.

Game Day Breakdown: KU football at TCU • Sep 28, 2019 05:51 PM

@bskeet now I didnt expect a win today but was hopeful we could hang for a half and lose by a few scores. Big step back today unfortunately.

Game Day Breakdown: KU football at TCU • Sep 28, 2019 05:45 PM

They look like they could easily beat us 110 to 0 if they wanted.

Game Day Breakdown: KU football at TCU • Sep 28, 2019 05:43 PM

@bskeet it could've easily been 52 to nothing had they got a TD there and not dropped an INT.

Game Day Breakdown: KU football at TCU • Sep 28, 2019 05:42 PM

Seems like Turner Gills trip to College Station or TCU in 2017 is the last time I remember being flat out whipped like this. Obviously being a few plays from 4-0 we have got the wake up call, that we are no where near ready to compete at the power 5 level. I bet WV has their lone win in conference and we dont get one. We need to recruit the trenches super hard.

Game Day Breakdown: KU football at TCU • Sep 28, 2019 05:26 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 they ain't that smart but I agree.

Game Day Breakdown: KU football at TCU • Sep 28, 2019 05:13 PM

I'm listening while I'm tearing out carpet. This could the worse loss in school history if Patterson wants it.

Game Day Breakdown: KU football at TCU • Sep 28, 2019 04:45 PM

I'm out lol

Game Day Breakdown: KU football at TCU • Sep 28, 2019 04:35 PM

Gonna be a long day, this OC is terrible. Run,Run, Pass hasnt worked all season dude. Use your brain if you have one.

Guy's let's see , try • Sep 28, 2019 12:56 AM

We hit the road again tomorrow for the early game on FS1 vs TCU. For some odd reason outside of the 2017 21 yards of offense and a running clock embarrassment. We have played TCU close since they joined this league. I look for tomorrow to be the same way. I think we have a chance if Stanley can limit his turnovers and the defense, which hasnt had a take away since week 1 can create some of their own. I think the spread is 16.5, I like that bet. But will be picking TCU 35 Kansas 24. Being a road game I wont put attendance for it. I feel like we are competing better but must find away to win some of these close games. I feel like KU football has a terrible record in games decided by one score or less pretty much every year outside of 2007 and 08.

What's the Worst Part? • Sep 27, 2019 05:28 PM

@Woodrow I agree, The NCAA tournament is supposed to return to Wichita next season. I was able to go for the first time last time it was there and i enjoyed the hell outta it. The NCAA knowing that this has been going on since UK was doing it the 50s and UCLA in the 60s, while continuing to slap wrists and let it go on is half the issue. I said something about it last season, most of drive 5 mph over the speed limit because have never been stopped for it. If I started getting tickets for a 70 in a 65, I wouldn't do it anymore.

If Bill Self were suspended for a year... • Sep 26, 2019 03:21 AM

I'd say chances of Self sitting out a year are slim to none. If it comes down to that I'd bank on him retiring or being fired.

What's the season looking like? • Sep 26, 2019 03:14 AM

I always like to temper my expectations, seems like the bigger the hype, the worse we end up most years. I feel like we have a squad that could be pretty salty. I feel like rebounding has been a Achilles heel since Thomas Robinson left to be honest. I know Dedric was solid at it a year ago but we gave some big offensive rebounds several times. I feel like with the likes of Big Dave, Doke and SDS that should be a thing of the past. I think Dotson will be one of the best PGs in the nation and Doke one of the best centers. I'm hoping we take a step forward as a defensive team and think we will, Grimes was one the worst defenders in recent memory. Not trying to pick on him but I believe it to be a factual statement. The big question mark for me is 3 point shooting. We really missed Vick's fire power after he left last season (over 45% from 3). I think Ochai and Dotson will have both improved there shots. Hopefully the Moss kid is the shooter we believe him to be. We have a good set of bigs but will need some scoring from the outside to be successful.

In terms of the NCAA violations notice, I would say it puts a big black cloud over our program at this time. There's really no other way to put it. It could hurt in a number of ways, mostly I'd say recruiting takes the biggest blow but how much will it effect our home court sell out streak? Will it piss off several Alums and booster thus hurting donations? Part of me finds it hard to believe with most the classes we have been getting thats well behind the UKs, Dooks, UNCs and Arizonas on average that we are buying a high number of guys. DTG was ranked in the 40s and FM in the 90s. Hard for any logical person to believe that all the top 25 guys that other schools get year after year aint being bought if thats the case. One of biggest question marks for me going forward is who are the other schools that the NCAA will send notices to? It seemed that the investigation heavily incriminated the likes Arizona and Ok State, 2 NIKE schools. But even though are the first names I can remember hearing when this investigation began. Is there really a tape of Miller talking about paying Ayton 100k? He seemed pretty sure that he was gone from some of his comments at the end of last season. I believe after all the lists came out of players or family of players that go something it was like 60 some odds colleges. That included the likes of Wichita State's Fred Van Fleet and Dooks Wendell Carter, are any of those schools being investigated by anyone but themselves? Why was Kansas State never investigated after Micheal Beasley former agents claimed his momma was paid and living in a luxury condo while he was attending that school? The common denominator in all of those is that they are Nike or Jordan brand which is division of Nike. Why isn't Maryland in trouble if they paid SDS's guardian to come there even if he chose not to? There is a ton holes to this IMO, holes that probably never get filled and never looked at again because one of the top dogs, Kansas is in trouble. The rest of that crap will get swept under the rug after we get an example made of us. At this point if this case has to go before a judge, who isn't going to see the obvious? That most schools are probably paying guys to play. Our local sports guy wrote in his column that he'd bet a hefty amount that over 75% of D1 programs are guilty of breaking at least a few NCAA rules. Which having the connections I have to some smaller Collegiate programs, I'd say that number is atleast 90%.

One of my best friends was a NAIA QB, the best in that colleges history by a lot, their Todd Ressing in short. He came from a poor family so he got his rent paid to live off campus for his last 2 years and had strings pulled to pass classes he never attended. That is just one of several NAIA and Juco stories I have of guys that I personally know. I'm a logical man so thinking that if a NAIA level program that generates chicken feed is willing to break a few rules to be good, than most of the better D1 programs where revenues are in the hundreds of millions dollars are most than likely to be doing something against the NCAA bylaws.

Edit: This also not getting into UNC getting ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for having fake classes.

Trouble? • Sep 23, 2019 10:17 PM

I would sue the NCAA, Dook and UK continue to not be investigated while pulling consistently better classes. 🤔 KU is paying guys in the 40s while the guys in the top 10 are playing for free lol. The NCAA is Nike's pawn, switch back to nike, it all goes away.

WEST VIRGINIA TODAY • Sep 22, 2019 06:47 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 they let the DBs play except the 4th down, weak a$$ PI on Defense. Like I said last night, I rewatched it and the total was 19 that WV did the same or worse with no calls. I love a physical game but you have call it consistently. The refs didn't cost KU the game Stanley's turnovers did but every questionable call went WVs way and that doesn't help in a tight one.

WEST VIRGINIA TODAY • Sep 22, 2019 04:15 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 very true, we will be dogs by a lot from here on out.

WEST VIRGINIA TODAY • Sep 22, 2019 03:27 AM

@DanR this is the official rule: When [an offensive] player is holding the ball to pass it forward, any intentional forward movement of his arm starts a forward pass, even if the player loses possession of the ball as he is attempting to tuck it back toward his body. Also, if the player has tucked the ball into his body and then loses possession, is incomplete. I just rewatched Bradys fumble on youtube and it looks more like a fumble than both of Carter's. That's one if my first tell-tale that the NFL is rigged. Change the rule book to justify a BS call.

WEST VIRGINIA TODAY • Sep 22, 2019 03:22 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 Bender was the better QB IMO. I still think we can get a few more wins tho.

WEST VIRGINIA TODAY • Sep 22, 2019 03:16 AM

@DanR I thought they both were passes, no question. I dont see how they weren't reviewed or the obvious helmet to helmet hit tonight. I'm working on our spare bedroom and rewatching the game. The pass inference on 4th down against Defense was pretty weak aswell. It just seems like when it rains it pours, think back to the CC 4th down when pooka was held literally 6 feet from an official. I've counted 16 plays so far where WV DBs have pulled ours Jerseys without a flag. I'm frustrated because anytime we get a questionable call in basketball, its front page news for 6 weeks. I'd really like to see officials start to take some credibility for shit calls. They make a pretty damn good living to not have to explain a damn thing.

Guy's let's see , try • Sep 22, 2019 03:06 AM

I was less than 200 off on attendance, small victories. My score was pretty close and as I said the turnovers were the difference...

WEST VIRGINIA TODAY • Sep 22, 2019 03:02 AM

@FarmerJayhawk Yep that what I predicted. Stanley has been solid, he just has to hold on the ball. 5 turnovers in the last 3 games just doesn't cut it at this level.

WEST VIRGINIA TODAY • Sep 22, 2019 12:02 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 the reason why we are 2-2 and not 4-0 to be honest. The defense broke a bit much today but the decks stacked against you when the other team starts inside your 40 3 times.

WEST VIRGINIA TODAY • Sep 22, 2019 12:00 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 Ya but that was last week. "Doing the samething over and over while expecting a different result is insanity" Thomas Jefferson. We figured it out just a quarter too late.

WEST VIRGINIA TODAY • Sep 21, 2019 11:57 PM

@stoptheflop KU had more total yards but the really story was the turnovers. Time of possession wasnt helping a tired defense either.

WEST VIRGINIA TODAY • Sep 21, 2019 11:56 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 the wasted 35 seconds on the 5 yard line with 2 runs. I said in my prediction we dont cough it up, we would win and little doubt that we would've without the 2 TOs. But yes I'd be perfectly fine with a new OC after this season. We tried to run way to much in the first half. You can be stuffed on 1st so many times before a smart coach changes it up.

WEST VIRGINIA TODAY • Sep 21, 2019 11:53 PM

The defense had too much trouble on third down.

WEST VIRGINIA TODAY • Sep 21, 2019 11:52 PM

They played hard, Stanley's INT was super costly but it was a great play by the defense. Hard to be too upset. We had our chances. On to TCU.

WEST VIRGINIA TODAY • Sep 21, 2019 11:14 PM

The refs are costing us badly obvious helmet to helmet and several missed holds on WV.

Guy's let's see , try • Sep 21, 2019 03:04 AM

@bskeet last season we were 2-1 at this point. Now 3-1, that would be the best start since the beginning of the end 5-0 in 2009.

Trouble? • Sep 20, 2019 10:47 PM

There's always barber college for guys like McBride.

Trouble? • Sep 20, 2019 10:18 PM

I'll say this much, I'll be done with college athletics if the NCAA comes down hard on us and some the other Adidas schools while not batting an eye at the Nike schools. We all know Zion got paid and most of UKs recruits aswell.

Guy's let's see , try • Sep 20, 2019 05:42 PM

It will be interesting match up for sure. Which team shows up on either side? Both teams struggled mightily with near loses vs FCS clubs in week one, both had bad losses in week two followed up by big wins vs ACC opponents. I like out chances if we can win the turnover battle. I think the game comes down to that, we must hold on to the football and hopefully catch some INTs this week. I'll go 36,000 on attendance, we have been close but not over the 35k. This weekend it's a afternoon game and cooler temps. Kansas 34 WV 27.

19-20 Schedule • Sep 19, 2019 01:36 AM

Its $4.99 for ESPN plus folks, you get access to any replays of the games on the ESPN networks, hawk talk for BB and FB, and post game shows. People act like its $500 a month. Out here in the sticks I like because I cant get Cox or Time Warner, Kansas is full of rural areas that this helps.

Guy's let's see , try • Sep 17, 2019 12:11 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 I dont think I'll miss him. Like I said hit or miss m, he never really had any great pieces IMO.

Guy's let's see , try • Sep 16, 2019 10:35 PM

Well I'll be honest, I miss the fat man. I have two buddies that played on that last team of his. They have told me plenty about Mangino and most of it was good. They pretty much said the defense was lazy and goofing off at practice daily. They didnt like being yelled at or held accountable for the actions. They also said alot about some of the behind scenes crap sweet Lou pulled. I'm not sure firing him was the worst decision but the hiring of Turner Gill and his massive contract is one of most laughable things in KU athletics history. It's also a tell-tale of sweet Lou knowing he was going down and a final FU on the way out. Keegan was always hit or miss, he couldnt decide who's side he was on most of the time.
