Most of that team hated Self and they completely gave up on him the following year. Had plenty of talent just didn’t mesh well with Coach Self, hard to move away from Williams whom had just got you to back to back FFs. The legends of the Phog book all of those players pretty much admitted to such even tho most like him now.

@approxinfinity that’s only a small portion of what I hear is going on behind closed doors. Those two have completely gave up and it’s very evident. They are team killers and should be kicked to the curb.

Hunter Dickinson, :speak-no-evil_monkey: • Feb 19, 2025 11:38 PM

@approxinfinity what’s is insane is how they are playing

Hunter Dickinson, :speak-no-evil_monkey: • Feb 19, 2025 10:53 PM

As I said in another thread kick him and Storr off the team should’ve done it a month ago

Tonight's game • Feb 19, 2025 05:55 PM

@approxinfinity I think Griffen is much more engaged most of the time

I agree, I would simply start with benching Hunter and seeing where the next 4-5 games go.

If I’m Bill Self, this is without knowing what the legal terms are of the NIL. I’m kicking Hunt and Storr off the team as soon as we get back. Clear out your lockers and get the hell outta here. We have 7 guys that care and can play Start Juan, Shak, Zeke, KJ and Flory. Learn some defense and muddy up the games over the next few weeks and tell Rylen he is on Americas shortest leash. Use Diggy and Rylen off the bench and Justin Cross to use if need be for blows for KJ and Flory while Zack is out. You can also run 4 guards most of the time.

I'm still lost on 3 things still, they did BYU film prep, scouting and game preparation and came to the conclusion that starting 3 bigs against a team that shoots a high % of 3's and spaces the floor schematically was the best matchup to win this game. That seriously cannot be the outcome but it literally happened.

I don't believe the coaches put the players in the best position to win the game last night. The players quit as well for the most part. That level of play is not acceptable at any College Program but we witnessed what felt like Rock Bottom.

Yes anyone with basketball knowledge can see we aren’t running correct line ups to succeed, our game plans are bad. Yes the players do some of the blame but the head guy that wanted them here and preps them deserves more

Tonight's game • Feb 19, 2025 01:42 PM

@BigBad Self having zero accountability for this roster is laughable. We have 3 or 4 years guy….. they SUCK! We gave away 2 good recruits to get Hunt that would be 3 year players right now and are better than Hunt/KJ most nights. Hunt was lazy as hell last year but still brought back. AJ Storr is on is 3rd school in as many years and a known to half ass it. Self wanted him and he’s here.

@bskeet we ain’t coming back in this one not a remote chance dont set yourself up for failure my friend

Tonight's game • Feb 19, 2025 02:53 AM

If I’m Bill Self at halftime, I walk in laughing ass off. Telling them something to the tune of I’ve got 16 conference titles and 2 national titles, I’m probably gonna be remembered pretty positively if I retire tomorrow. Y’all are gonna hold the title of Bill Selfs worst team and arguably the worst team Kansas has put out in over 40 years.

Tonight's game • Feb 19, 2025 02:44 AM

Do yall think we could lose out and miss the tournament?

Tonight's game • Feb 19, 2025 02:43 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 it’s to that point and has been for atleast a month. My question is why are playing the guys that obviously don’t give two fucks like Hunter and Storr. I’ve always said I’d be happy to lose by 50 with walk ons if we actually play hard. The guys that don’t care shouldn’t see the floor don’t care if they are the best player on the team or not.

Tonight's game • Feb 19, 2025 02:41 AM

@DanR ya I’m mean if the 2013 team was losing to the Topeka YMCA this team is losing to a wheel chair ball club

Tonight's game • Feb 19, 2025 02:38 AM

@DanR some of it is Bills philosophy on Fools gold, the guards are way way over helping to paint after the ball is reversed. It’s not 1980 anymore guys can hit 3s at 45% clip all game long or better.

Tonight's game • Feb 19, 2025 02:24 AM

We aren’t even putting our hands up on defense, Jesus that’s the first thing I tell my 4th graders on defense. A bunch of grade schoolers are more sound than Kansas a blue blood D1 basketball program. New lows every game

Tonight's game • Feb 19, 2025 02:21 AM

@DCHawker I honestly think this team could run like you wouldn’t believe if hunt was on the bench we cycled guys in and out

Tonight's game • Feb 19, 2025 02:20 AM

@wissox @nuleafjhawk this is the worst Kansas team in 42 years. No one is happy at this point, I’m at the point and laugh stage of it myself. Let’s not turn on each other.

Tonight's game • Feb 19, 2025 02:15 AM

Tonight's game • Feb 19, 2025 02:07 AM

@benshawks08 switching 5 was okay in 2022 with 4 guards and David that was excellent at guarding a ball screen. I’m just lost to how a HOF coach can do the same thing repeatedly with shitty results and wake up on game day thinking it will work today.

This is so true. Like what is the ideal goal here? What is the point except to give up easy mismatch buckets.

Yep been doing it for 3 years and it doesn’t work.

@TYOHawk yes very true statement IMO self set KJ up to fail. He would be a fan favorite just like Lightfoot if Self had put him in the role. Both are good guys and no ill will towards personally they just aren’t great players at this level.

Ute came to the right place • Feb 16, 2025 08:12 PM

@TYOHawk spot on my friend, Remy was a renta player that wasn’t quite good enough to make the NBA for 1 year not sure how in the hell that could be labeled as Juan’s replacement with Juan being a Sophomore at the time and as I put above JCL was never a point guard by any stretch of imagination.

Ute came to the right place • Feb 16, 2025 08:08 PM

Two of the most laughable things I’ve ever read in my life as a KU fan are in this thread. First one- KJ Adam’s kicked ass last night… 26 minutes, 4 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists. Second one- Jalen Coleman Lands was a Point Guard or recruited here to be one. I literally spit out
My drink at that one!!

The rest of the season • Feb 16, 2025 07:56 PM

In terms of this season realistically the goals should be as simple as win 20 games and make the NCAA tournament. That is the maximum this team with this current staff and roster make up is capable of IMO. Last season 11 games were lost making it the worst season in Bill Selfs career and the most losses since 1989 in Roy’s first season as head coach which was 12 losses. This team continues to erase streaks and records at a rapid pace. Luckily I believe if we win 1 or 2 more games we are pretty much locked into the tournament. If @wissox is correct in his predictions which I agree with we will finish the season with 14 loses. Making this this the worst KU team in my lifetime and many others on here. You have to go back 42 years to Ted Owen’s last season in Lawrence with a record of 14-16 the last time we had that high of a number of losses. In terms of the year AFH hosted NCAA games it’s very similar this season with Wichita hosting and us not likely getting to play there. There is an outside chance we could make it there as a 7 seed but I think they would see that as too big of an advantage for a 7 seed.

Edit: hopefully we aren’t ranked tomorrow and that wakes up this squad/staff and lights a fire under their asses

The rest of the season • Feb 16, 2025 07:31 PM

I just watched WSU take down Memphis is Wichita, they maybe the best team in the state at this point. They just play so much harder than we do, not giving up offensive rebounds off of FTs, running after loose balls. That’s our main issue we just don’t care collectively as a group

Ute came to the right place • Feb 16, 2025 05:47 PM

@MoonwalkMafia pretty much exactly how I feel but you are much better at putting it to words. I’m sadly wondering if the Golden age of KU hoops from 1984 to 2022 is done. Will we ever be like that again?

Ute came to the right place • Feb 16, 2025 05:38 PM

We just have to find a way to get the guys engaged and wanting to play basketball again.

I’m not enjoying watching this team. I’m enjoying watching my 11 year old’s team as they use fundamentals on the court, run real offense and their bigs stay in the paint. This KU team is an assault on everyone’s basic intelligence of the game. There is no excuse for what we are seeing.

Right, this is why on several other sites there is talk of Norm Robert’s running the show and Bill has suffered a stroke of sorts. Idk what the scoop is but we just don’t play smart basketball and we don’t seem to coach with any common sense what so ever.

Ute came to the right place • Feb 16, 2025 06:04 AM

@TYOHawk I have never been this frustrated with any KU BB coach in my life. That being said I think we give Bill next season as long as Dp still comes and Flory stays. He has done enough to have a few bad seasons. If Dp/Fkory jump ship it’s over and we need to move on from him.

Fishing • Feb 16, 2025 05:59 AM

We do a lot of fishing in my house, it’s fairly inexpensive hobby. Sure you can buy a $200 rod if you want but I’ve caught a lot fish on a $30 zebco. Carp are always tricky to me seems like when they are near the surface they don’t want to bite but have caught several of them off of worms and sweet corn. Catfish will literally eat anything, I’ve caught them with a chunk of Qtr pounder from McDonald’s. Guys I know that specially fish carp use sweet corn from the Gaddert stands here in Kansas. I enjoy Bass fishing the most with lures and have been working on using soft plastics a lot the last few years.

Update: this roster has completely fell apart

Ute came to the right place • Feb 16, 2025 05:49 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 I like your response and no it isn’t a 100% on Self for sure several times on this thread alone I got on the players. Especially Hunts effort tonight but IMO when you build this roster knowing Hunt and AJ were both like that last year and still include them on it it’s more on the staff. I’d put about 65%-75% of this on Self/staff especially after what was said after last season by him. As I said before his mouth wrote a check his ass couldn’t cash.

Ute came to the right place • Feb 16, 2025 05:44 AM

Let my 9 year old stay up and watch this one. 3:31 left in the game, 62-60 them, Hunt fouls a terrible shooter. We sub out the only guy going for rebounds. I tell my son we probably just lost because even if he misses we can’t rebound with this group. Sure enough it happens and they get 2 points out of it. I hate myself for being right most the time but for as much as a few of you give me grief, about 95% of what I say happens.

Theyre not diamonds but theyre in the rough • Feb 16, 2025 05:38 AM

@approxinfinity I could realistically write a multi chapter book on the flaws of this team and the way it’s being coached.

@approxinfinity This team if that's what people want to call it, but this team is in complete ruins right now ---no poise - -no self confidence - -Coach has totally lost this team & feel multiple players have checked in several games back.-- no there way to say it then bottom line they just flat suck and suck big time,- some of these guys they got their money and that's all they cared about

Christian Braun is all over their ass. The other night he tweeted Play for the name that is on the front of that Jersey- these guys are done

It’s obvious that this hand picked team by Self quit a long time ago. I’m okay if Self isn’t fired at this point but major changes need to come to both the staff and roster.

Theyre not diamonds but theyre in the rough • Feb 16, 2025 05:35 AM

@approxinfinity the problem is all this was well known coming into the season. It’s not breaking news to any basketball fan. I would’ve told Hunt and KJ to kick rocks after last season. Unless KJ was willing to come off the bench. We gave up both Udeh and Zuby to get Hunt while keeping KJ. Both players are without question better than KJ and some nights Hunt. Whomever is our talent scout should be left in Utah because they suck very badly at their job.

Yes got to change some contracts, if you don’t play hard you don’t get paid. If anyone one on here showed for work time after time disengaged and not getting it done, They’d be fired. This is a job in a sense for them, they ain’t doing fire them. I’d rather play walk ons that try and get beat by 50 than these goons just half assing it repeatedly

Ute came to the right place • Feb 16, 2025 05:24 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 Right but it’s same story, Hunt doesn’t attempt to play defense and never has at any point in his collegiate career, he’s lazy as hell on the glass. KJ super under sized big, struggles to get rebounds and shots off in the paint rendering him useless most nights without a jump shot. Juan was pretty good tonight but he’s very limited athletically and isn’t aggressive enough offensively. AJ Storr was notorious for lacking effort thru out the season. Zeke Mayo can’t play defense never has/ never will. The jury has been on this for years! Please explain to me how when this is known by the coach none of it is his fault. It’s called accountability he built this roster and it arguably the worst in 40 years
