@BShark is they look pretty bad when they donāt hit 10 plus 3s
Wow BYU goes down in game one for the conference.
Cincinnati needed overtime but gets past San Francisco in the opening round of the NIT. Would be pretty funny if a B12 team could win both tournaments. Think they may have a better shot with the NCAA one.
Itās really an odd feeling today for me. I donāt think Iāve ever came into a NCAA Tournament game where I thought we had such a slim chance of winning one game. Obviously we have had 2 first round losses under Bill and I believe Roy had zero both here and at UNC. Been a few years like 2019 or 2015 where I thought sweet 16 was the ceiling but with this team a first round win maybe the ceiling we can hope for.
I really hope Elmarko starts, I think we will need his ball handling skills because they do like to press and push the ball. We also may consider running KJ at the 5 with athletic ability and only play him and Hunter together sparingly. We will need to value each possession and not have turnovers. I think we have to slow the pace of the game down. Shortened bench and such we donāt want to go up/down the floor with them.
Mildcats bounced first round NIT by Iowa lol
Slap to the face of Oklahoma because they were one of the teams Virginia was chosen over. That was simply put a bid for the ACC they had no business making this season.
@FarmerJayhawk hahaha this is why I enjoy you buddy
@mayjay the dude quit on his teammates and brothers after we allowed him to return. Heās been he worst Jayhawk in recent memory. If you find a fan base that likes losing and garbage like this let me know.

Kev is out for the tourney. Weāre done.
Selfās statement kind of makes it sound like Kevinās camp shut it downā¦
Kevins daddy shut it down, have zero idea why at this point. He didnāt want him to come back after he originally tweaked because didnāt want to hurt draft stock. He not NBA caliber regardless the truth be told.
@rcjhdraft Yep if played a game or two and did well he couldāve boosted his stock. Look at the draft right now, players will have a break in this tournament and be drafted. Heās just too weak mentally and physically to play.
@patoh3 true, I just think it is a chicken sh** move all around. He donāt get picked first round for sure now and maybe not all.
Bill Selfs has announced Kevin will not play again for Kansas. Very spineless move by McCullar and his camp. Will not consider him a Jayhawk moving forward.
@drgnslayr I personally like when everyone picks us to lose less pressure and as you say creates a chip. Will be interesting with Kevin, still hearing it is all mental and there zero wrong with his knee at this point. If he canāt lead us to at least a second weekend. I donāt see anyone drafting him in the first round.
@RockChalkinTexas best year in Kansas athletics history. Bowl win, volleyball, womenās basketball and menās basketball all in the ncaa tournament for the first time ever.
@Texas-Hawk-10 for sure I think you can get better for sure. Downside is if some starters opt out bench guys may get seen and offer more NIL to play elsewhere.
Man a ton of people are picking us to lose
@bskeet hard to be confident right now for sure. We have a grand total of 1 win in March and believe we are 2-5 in the last month.
@Texas-Hawk-10 Iām hearing the players are saying they donāt want to play either
They will be running behind seems like they typically are a few minutes. Just looking into some scouting on Samford.
They are #7 in the land in 3 point percentage at 39.3% and tied for #7 in overall FG percentage at 49.3%. Which tells me they take a lot of quality shots.
They are ranked 69th in adjusted offense and 116th adjusted defense on KenPom, they are the highest rated 13 on there @ 81st.
They donāt have a lot of size down low, they have one 6ā11 guy that averages just over 12 minutes a game. We should dominate them on the glass even though they are tied with us in rebounds at 139th. However they are 201st in rebound differential at +0.1 while we are 110th at +2.1. Ranked 334th in turnover margin, they donāt turn people over much at all.
Achor there starting forward will be a tough match up for us. Heās not a strong rebounder at 6.1 per game but has a nice inside out game he can hit 15 footers and is one of 3 guys shooting above 42% from 3 for them. I almost think you may consider playing 4 guards to help with this. Just quick little 5 minute scout here for some info friends.
I actually think we got a decent draw, 3 point % does scare me a little. Not remotely worried about Purdue, if they donāt get the whistle no chance of getting out of the first weekend.
@nuleafjhawk I believe this is sarcasm folks but you could make a case that we should be as low as 6-7 seed looking at how we are 10-10 in the last 20 games
Right now Joe has us at 4 seed in the Midwest playing Yale in Spokane. South Carolina would likely be round of 32 opponent. Purdue is the one seed, i actually think this is a pretty favorable draw if we get it. Feel like we have had tougher as 1 and 2 seeds.
Gonna be weird will all these 1 seeds losing it NC state can pull it off.
@FarmerJayhawk Rumor always says as he wouldnāt recruits East of the Mississippi and wouldnāt go after guys UNC was.
B12 tournament turning into the ISU invitational
@Texas-Hawk-10 not this season anyway
@wissox congrats buddy, I get mad because of Hunter got half the calls Zach does, he average 5 more points a game and it would be very helpful lol.
@wissox that team may have got undefeated had Drew stayed but itās the new norm unfortunately. A guy on X thinks if Udeh and Dick stayed we have 2 loses this season. I think I agree with that, have Dick over Timberlake and Udeh instead of Braun.
@dylans speaking to floor burns, he was let go I believe Thursday from Stanford. Iād like to see some staff changes this offseason and would love to see him and Danny back on our side lines. I still think our bigs development was much better when Danny was here and obviously Jared had some great years here under Roy and in North Carolina.
Gonna go ahead mirror what @BShark said we got several unfavorable draws. In 91 I think we just got hosed by the officiating crew. I watched that game about 5 years ago when I was sick and was mad even tho I knew the outcome. 97 team is IMO the most talented CBB to not win a title. Ran into the wrong team at the right time. We definitely win 2003 if Wayne is healthy but we really shouldāve won it anyway, we couldnāt hit a 3 or a freethrow to save our lives. Hard to put that one on Roy. If memory serves me correctly Graves and Collison combined to go like 4 for 18 from the line. Neither were great foul shooters but Collison usually was a 65% I think.
With who we already know is staying, think Iād like to see Juan, KJ, Hunt, Furphy and Mari realistically stay here. I feel like itās tough to build a team with any continuity if you donāt have a few program guys on the roster. I really would like to see KJ go into an expanded Mitch Lightfoot type of roll.
I was just looking and interesting that No bracket projections even show Cincinnati on the bubble just out. KSU is on the bubble with a worse record and a head to head loss to them last week. Cincinnati KenPom: 33, KSU: 70, Net Cincinnati: 34, KSU: 68 and RPI Cincinnati: 68, KSU: 71. Just seems interesting to me that would be the case.
Baylor and Cincinnati in a tight one, how many do the bearcats need to get in?
Iām thinking 4 possibly 5, they may give us 4 with Hunter and Kevin being back. We are 19th in Net, 22nd in KenPom and 17th in RPI. They may give us a little lead way because of injuries but prob the 3rd or 4th 4 seed.
A Duke loss and a Mildcat loss we are up and rolling folks
@drgnslayr thatās a pretty small fraction of the preseason awards this team got. Almost like I said preseason awards donāt mean squat. If they did weād win the tournament. Hunter isnāt the leading scorer in the conference. Iām honestly shocked that Kevin is still in the Jerry west conversation and got first team all B12 missing the number of games he did. But neither him or Hunter will win the Kareem or the West award.
Stat I just came across on X, anyone wanna guess the last time Kansas lost back to back games by 20 plus points? 1919 under coach Hamilton against Fizzou in back to back games.
@FarmerJayhawk that was big for KSU, they win tonight they maybe in sad face
@dylans fair point but all those wins are at home in a down year in overall talent for CBB IMO. If the tournament was played at home or at least the first two rounds I like our chances a ton more. AFH is a thing lol
@TYOHawk The list of PGs I think Juan is better than since Self has been here. Tharpe and Hawkins, thatās the list. Yes he has a NC but as I said above he didnāt play a ton the last 15 minutes and had a bone head turnover and when he did. Also the minutes logged is a factor to me.
@approxinfinity I donāt think making a FF is a must for a great PG. I think at least one good run is true but I think Frank gets a FF is one of our best players in Doke wasnāt injured. Who they play with is a great measuring stick to me. Looking at Juan, the other guys on the floor with him on that title team. Ochai- NBA, Braun- NBA, J-Wil - NBA and Big David is carving out a solid career over seas. You look at RusRobs best team in 08 it also is filled with NBA talent. I think we all agree having talent around you not only makes you better but is able to mask some of your weaknesses.
Edit: few other PGs had a back ups like Sherron Collins (RusRob) and Remy Martin (Juan). Itās worth noting that Sherron played 34 minutes to RusRobs 20 in the NC and Remy Played 21 to Juanās 27 but played almost all of the second half and more than Juan in other tournament games.
@BeddieKU23 definitely valid points about Juan and the situation but not very many good PGs are gonna want come in and play second fiddle to him. Best bet to me is to get a guy from the portal that is proven to be decent just needs to improve his game while having 2 or 3 years left to play.
@approxinfinity for sure, Self should take some heat for this roster. I said he seat should be warm after this on another thread and got in trouble lol. Not saying you fire the guy but he needs to take accountability for this team in some light. Talking heads will do it if we get bounced early next week.
@BeddieKU23 I think that Self for sure cares and no personal attack to Juan but heās gone as far as he can as a player. Literally pull up his stats. They are identical from sophomore year to this year in most categories some heās actually regressed in. He obviously cares a great deal about KJ as well but having those two in guaranteed starting spot is as mentioned above absolutely killer in recruiting.
@rockchalkjayhawk I like Juan, heās a good kid but he is a long shot from best PG not only in the nation but this conference. He was honorable mention for a reason. Not a stat that proves heās great sorry but he limits us.
@jayballer67 he been steadily dropping and other players will show out in the tournament and likely drop him further. Unless something crazy happens I see zero chance he plays more than 2 more games this season.
@approxinfinity which is odd because early on in the season we looked solid defensively. I think teams have watched the film on our guys and realize they can drive to kick out for 3 easily. We all donāt guard the pick and roll worth a crap. We have gone under screens for shooters all season like a middle school C team.
@RockChalkinTexas I hate saying it but we could lose our 3rd game this season by 20+ points. Iād venture to guess that hasnāt happened in my lifetime. Thats why this season has been so depressing. Preseason #1, championship or bust type feel after PR trip. Add in all the streaks broken with the 2018 season being vacated coupled with historically the worst conference season since the conference expanded to 12 or more teams. A lot of good streaks fell this season and will take decades to restore them if it ever happens again.
I honestly donāt think it was that was that bad of a half guys. We continue to miss layups and open 3s that just seems to be who we are as a team. Weāve had that same issue when Hunter and Kevin were here as well. If Juan makes a couple of those floaters and Nick hits one several good looks we are feeling good right now. I just donāt understand why we struggle so badly to make shots, even high percentage ones most highschool teams make.
@BeddieKU23 for sure I do like him being aggressive tho, you canāt make a shot of you donāt take it.
