Man Self has matured and changed his perspective. The part where he said as a young coach you want guys to run your play your way to score versus as an older coach you give your players guardrails/parameters to play within and let them go make plays - as the older coach.

That is gold right there and hope he takes some of his advice without the quick hooks and “trusting players that lower the teams ceiling”.

Juan shoots 1.2 threes per game so his percentage compared to Moore’s isn’t some argument you think.

There’s a reason Moore’s pers are better and glad you mentioned that

@Texas-Hawk-10 You aren’t wrong about his tapes but he’s still more athletic than Juan. Juan couldn’t beat those guys off the dribble either…you forget how much more athletic and quicker Samford looked - go rewatch it. They sped Juan up easily

Best shooters, scorers and Storr can’t do worse rebounding wise than your favorite rebounder kj

He doesn’t ever get a paint touch off the bounce as he can’t get by his man like tyshawn or mason.

He doesn’t hardly look to shoot so teams play 5 on 4 and pack it in.

The opinion of Juan by the staff is so inflated it’s comical. They act like he’s Tyus Jones when in reality he had the worst play in a title game at the most crucial moment in Kansas bball history. Luckily we defended them up and bailed him out

I’ve listened to the podcast and that part 10 times and it sounds like AJ and he moved his mouth to pronounce AJ….but then 10 seconds later he says KJ and you can semi tell the difference but idk.

I think the 4 starters clearly include KJ and that’s who he probably meant to say

@dylans I’d said does everyone confirm we have an elite roster? If you do than expectation is a title based on roster this year especially compared to last year.

I’m not as high as the roster because of the pg and defensive liability at the 5 spot and a 4 man who can’t shoot outside 10 feet which messes up spacing

This year should be way more fun that last year but I’m wanting everyone to call their shot. If you think this is a title roster than say it…if not, then state why.

@dylans Bill’s expectations are a title but based on the roster constructed there are heavy limitations

I prefer this roster by a mile to last years because of the offensive firepower and Bill needs to adjust and even dumb down his defense so it is easier to pickup.

Coaches in their natural pride want to have complex schemes defensively that they feel more impact a game than actually so. Getting guys to play good defense is more about want to than schematics (albeit his schematics from inside out are bad in 2024).

If Bill adjusted his defensive thought process and simplified things he’d find that’s the key to multiple titles in the next 3-5 years (see UConn’s scheme defensively versus ours)

We will never shoot as many free throws as our opponents because d2 isn’t a downhill straight line driver of the ball. He’s a ball swinger/rotator he doesn’t attack. 4 years of what he’s been that won’t change.

This team will D up better because it has athletes the question is if Bill plays them.

He will play Juan and Hunter two poor defenders and if Clemence the clod hopper gets more run than Flory we will have major issues guarding ball screens again.

Either way offensively we will be extremely difficult to stop which will help us on the defensive side where we don’t have to be perfect but after a few missed shots we can go on a 12-1 run quickly.

Man that’s tough as Veach hasn’t gotten a wr right besides Rice being his first (whiffs on plenty).

I lean toward Worthy and think he will actually be a stud. As you said way different than converted db mecole.

Yeah Hill forced veach’s hand and you don’t bat 1000.0 in the draft so I get it.

Overall gotta trust the staff as they’ve done great these past 3-4 drafts and I think Veach has grown a ton in player scouting. He’s drafting smart athletes

I actually think Hill will be our next Tony G. Dude is big, runs/moves like Kelce and being a former qb is smart when it comes to diagnosing coverages. He won’t be Kelce as hardly anyone can be I think he will be a stud.

Overall this draft class should be an impact from day 1

Similar to when we took mecole and dk metcalf was available or when we got skyy moore and Pickens was right there

@Texas-Hawk-10 I’m obsessed with Hurley? I see my post you quoted and didn’t mention a thing about him as we are talking about Self. You seem to be the one that he’s gets to you because of what he’s accomplished as you just had two paragraphs bringing his name up.

D2 can’t guard his man one on one but he’s an A team defense guy. KJ is a stud defender in the post and one on one but can’t rebound worth crap (go hang out with Barkley this off-season).

AJ storr is a legit athlete and one I think Bill can teach to defend same for Griffen. Your analyzing these guys defensively on other teams and building up how great Bill is defensively but then claiming how bad this team will be (as if Bill won’t idk maybe be better than their previous coaches on D).

Bill won’t ever change he guards inside out first and plays inside out on O. That’s who he is and he ain’t changing that anytime soon.

I’ll tell u this we have a better chance of getting to the sweet 16 with this years upcoming roster versus the crap we rolled out there last year (that’s including a healthy Kev).

Now what Bill does with those players this year and how they form the team (style of play and who plays what minutes) will ultimately determine if it is a success or not.

As @Texas-Hawk-10 alluded to already part of the downfall in the rotations will be the amount of minutes d2 plays and how he performs. Hoping he steps up this year because last year from the eye test seemed like his worst year. Wonder if he was hurt honestly….

It’s titles or nothing. Beating 12 teams with the afh advantage isn’t that big of an accomplishment and shows based on our teams buckling in the tourney.
