Great topic and very relevant. The assistants are bills good ole boys club. Guys he keeps around because he trusts not because they are the best coaches or have the best eye for talent.

I don’t think so on the vengeance I think if we get bounced early again next year he will look to retire faulting the portal and how it all works as a reason he couldn’t be consistent (ignoring how other programs leverage it and are being successful)

Ball screen on d2 over and over again and he can’t even remotely recover on his man

zags are pressuring d2…going under every screen and back in his hip pocket immediately and he wilts because he can’t create separation or hit a 3 (he doesn’t even look) or hit a step back jumper or anything besides a set shot.

Dude has the offensive skills of d2 but that’s offensive to many d2 guys he’s probably more naia. His rare fancy layups wows the crowd but the rest of his struggles go unnoticed

Our offense even if you replace KJ will not be fixed because of the liability running the show. We go into every game at a disadvantage with the most important position on the court

@FarmerJayhawk Nah this freaking sucks. We have a pg who teams dare to shot 15 times a game and go under every screen and our coach thinks he walks on water.

This is unacceptable and unfathomable. I was unaware this is kids rec league where you can’t replace a poor player with a better one.

D2 captains the worst offensive teams and big 12 finish yet he’s the best pure pg in America. Bills an idiot spewing that garbage…..he and d2 are getting owned today with this offensive output.

@Texas-Hawk-10 When Self is done I want nothing to do with Bennett and have said that for years when his name was randomly brought up.

They had the luckiest title they stole from Tech.

His basketball philosophy is atrocious as he slows the game down which only brings inferior opponents into play. It’s like a football team running the ball a lot to burn clock and minimize possessions…same thing with Bennett.

He’s more well know for the first ever 16 seed loss than the fluke title.

I guess my stance would be why does being a previous years starter on the 6th best big 12 team mean you have a guaranteed spot for next year?

If no spot is guaranteed to new recruits why is it guaranteed to guys in the program. Just because you are in the program a year prior shouldn’t mean you get the nod automatically.

@MR11 Does this only apply to incoming recruits or current players in the program? We have two that are absolutely cemented for next year so curious your post with regards to that.

We aren’t looking at any starting pg’s because in Bill’s mind we have the best pg in America. I’ve read many other posters on this site and especially the other site that are the most disinterested in next year because who is at that spot.

Pretty frustrating when the coach who supposedly never guarantees starter minutes has two guys that are absolutely untouchable (especially Juan next year).

Juan is the 6/7th best pg in the big 12 and that’s proven to be who we are even with TWO all Americans around him.

@TYOHawk Will be funny to see the spacing if we have those two plus Hunter but pair them with KJ and Juan… causing screenshots of teams still not guarding those two so passing lanes, driving lanes and the ability to maneuver is yet again in shambles

Two of the three suck because guards know the pg spot is untouchable it’s the reason we can’t get anyone worth their salt.

The reason I dog Juan is because it’s his team he’s the senior he knows the system he’s supposed to step up and score 12 ppg and LEAD the team.

It’s the expectation for every KU pg who’s jr or sr here!!! Why does Bill and you and the entire fan base excuse it or not replace him with a better pg???

I couldn’t fathom Dotson not scoring and everyone was cool with it and instead blaming our bench for not picking up a starters production.

What about Mason or Graham did we blame the bench as to why Mason or Graham didn’t lead successful teams? No, cause they took the reins and scored.

This whole crux of the bench needs to step up is asinine. The top 5 guys all have to be a threat to score and look to score.

We got a Sr pg who it’s his time and he can’t cut it and we got an entire year with him doing this crap all over again

They did already!
KJ played 3-5 minutes total in the tourney and Juan rode the bench from about the 16 minute on in the second half of the title and every crucial run in games against creighton and providence.

Because we won’t recruit better guards u will not see them win a title. If Juan is our starting pg there is zero chance. No player of remy’s caliber is coming to sit behind him and be the 6th man.

How all that came together is such luck for Self and he can’t even acknowledge it correctly. Self thinks he was some mastermind and proof Juan is good. Hey Bill you and the staff suck at talent evaluation lately even with having the portal to view guys who’ve played college ball.

@kjayhawks Juan is literally propped up by team accomplishments and bill’s absolute blindness to his actual abilities is what has brought the team to this low level.

KJ actually can contribute he showed that last night. He can be a Royce white point forward type when given the leash. Whether 6th man off the bench or what he has a clear role with our squad.

I said it earlier and was called negative ect and it is literally playing out exactly as expected. Juan is not a good player at the D1 level. He would be a great backup but the fact our coach thinks he’s the best pg in America is comically bad.

This all hurts recruiting when it comes to guards and guards are what win titles. You need more good guards…u can get away with only having 1 legit big.

Key is a remy type player and sitting Juan. The portal 2 guard will get unlimited shots and need to create when a play breaks down or shot clock is running out.
