On my list, I had to select between movies that were my favorites because they were so much fun, and those that live in my soul because I saw them growing up and they helped form my core values (the list I posted). The other list would have included My Cousin Vinny and Ground Hog Day.

@nuleafjhawk The first drop-floor ride I was on was at Cedar Point in Ohio when I was 8 (1964). Always wanted more!

I have never had a motion issue. I was the only guy moving around (out of 6) when our bachelor outing for my BIL was going on a tuna fishing charter into the Gulf Stream. They were all raised on the coast, me in the midwest. Go figure.

My wife has to take Bonine a.m. and p.m. on our cruise.

It's weird to not have the problem because you cannot imagine what it's like.

@nuleafjhawk Oooh, can I play?

12 Angry Men, Ben Hur, Dr. Strangelove, To Kill a Mockingbird, and It's a Wonderful Life

@nuleafjhawk That could be our tiebreaker. I coached softball but we lost. If you never lost in sb, you get the job.

Grady got the start! • Nov 29, 2023 01:53 PM

@wissox I get the wish for players to stay, but for most of us college is somehow preparatory for a career. Drew made $75 million in the NBA and by leaving college early was able to ensure he didn't suffer a catastrophic injury. Did you ever hear anything about Archie Marshall after his two ACL injuries?

Gooden came back in 2016, finished his degree in communications, and is now a broadcaster.

I can't find any conceivable justification to say he did anything wrong.

This game is going to put me out of my misery once and for all. Not the worlds greatest mismatch, I mean there was Georgia tech 220-0 over Cumberland College in 1916 and Chiefs 41, Bears 10 much later than that. But I digress, as a newly corona(ted) sufferer I'm now stuck to my chair for the next few days, so I have much time to fill these pages with more stuff for you all to ignore or read to your amusement.

The Panthers reside alongside I-57 on the eastern edge of Illinois between Chicago and Cairo (pronounced Cayr0) at the confluence of two great streams of our continent, the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers. I mean Charleston, IL is not anywhere near the interesting confluence which is too bad because it would be by far the most interesting thing in town. Driving north and south along that road 54 times we figured out during the 900 mile trip between Baton Rouge and Chicago/or Wisconsin Charleston represented one of of those things we look forward to on a road trip. It was a place to pull off the interstate, yell at the kids, and get some really crappy food at some fast food joint. Needless to say if it was the other Charleston (no not the one in WV) we probably never would have made it to Chicago. This Charleston that KU is playing, and it's too bad it's not at EIU's gym because I would have gone, except then I would have had Corona and my thoughtful wife would have been telling me you can't go with Corona Virus.

But this is KU at last word so what to know about them? When I was matriculating at The Harvard of Mt. Oread our fine football team (they were decent when I arrived on campus in 1985) was playing EIU. I've struggled to prove this but Sean Payton, no relation to the GOAT Walter, was the QB there and presumably played, and lost to KU that day. So we saw the genesis of a great coach that day.

As for their basketball team they hilariously scored scored 55 in the second half against Iowa just last year and beat the suckeyes and their whiney baby coach of the famed frantrum. In the name of journalistic integrity I must point out EIU beat my other slightly less favorite team also...in 1987 when UW sucked bad in hoops and I was at KU and coulda cared less.

Their current team is deserving of 344 Ken Pom. They've played their 1-57 counterpart U of I and got destroyed. Beaten two bad teams Coppin St (which used to have a coach named "Fang". "Hello Mom and Dad, I'd like you to meat my new boyfriend Fang") and basically gotten beat down by the rest. The EIU message board ("EIU Buckets) will be in full meltdown mode by the time they jump the ball. Frankly they're one of the teams that make you wonder why they're competing in D1 because back in their D2 days they were regular NCAA visitors to their tournament.

Of course, I think we make it to 99 points by about the 10 minute mark and then go cold leaving a final score of 99-3 when Tiger Booker hits a 3 at the buzzer.

You are supposed to be laid up. This first post is more of a stand up routine!

@patoh3 That movie was well-named. It made me want to dynamite my head.

So, GR Bowl is in Phoenix on Dec 26? Boxing Day timing might mess up big attendance by either school...

I think any team that has their first winning record in 15 years is totally within their rights to predict an NC the next year. Sell hats & shirts, make a mint! Hell, go ahead and start contacting season ticket holders to reserve playoff tickets!

Maybe the PopTart Bowl will be fun! From The Athletic's newsletter "The Pulse":

The Pop-Tarts Bowl will feature an edible mascot, which is something else entirely, and I can’t stop thinking about it. I get the thought: “How can we hop on this trend and differentiate ourselves?”

But … did they have to put eyes on the edible mascot? Just look at the poor Tart:
[pic]

Is the mascot happy to be eaten? Or is there fear behind the empty smile, which contains Pop-Tart filling? Is this sentient pastry excited that multiple large men will hunt it down after winning a semi-exhibition game, hungry from tackling other people for three hours?

The mascot “will run around the stadium interacting with fans and, when the final whistle blows, transform into a game-winning snack for the victors,” according to a press release.

On Saturday, Raiders safety Roderic Teamer emerged from injured reserve. On Sunday, his return to game action was derailed.

Via Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Teamer was arrested on DUI charges this morning.

Teamer will not play in Sunday’s game against the Chiefs.

@kjayhawks @stoptheflop I am an award winning chili chef. I am enjoying the info about Cincy chili!

Okay, the award was just in a regular group of wine friends in our development...but I did win 3 years in a row. It was fun as other people were going out to specialty meat shops and getting so frustrated.

We did have a very bad gas problem in our development...

Here's something fun. We have more points than the number of passes and runs combined. (excluding penalties)

5 3rd down plays.

@patoh3 Reminds me of George Brett and the Pine Tar Incident. Ejected for his explosion at having his home run disallowed. Royals protested the game to Commissioner, home run ruling was reversed, game replayed from that point...but Brett stayed ejected.

NCAA In Danger • Nov 21, 2023 10:59 PM

Actually, same or equivalent number of athletes is just used by schools because it is considered easier to comply (that test is considered a "safe harbor" by the feds). There are 3 possible ways to comply, but I just remember another one that virtually no school tries, but it would allow for different numbers: A school can be in compliance despite unequal numbers if it can prove that it has made athletic schol opportunities realistically available (actually budgeted and in programs with real coaches and facilities, not just a pamphlet description) to women in sports where women can participate, AND had worked like hell to make those opportunities known to college recruits and to the college population.

No one does that, from what I gather, because cutting mens swimming or diving to make numbers is easier.

(All this is from my prior understanding. If it has changed, mea culpa.)

What to Expect at the Champions Classic? • Nov 16, 2023 09:20 PM

I don't follow most game threads on bb or fb because there is just way too much bitching about the refs. There are at least 4 regulars who can be counted on to post up to 10 comments in every thread about calls. And most of the calls griped about that I have gone back to watch were correct.

That, and the constant complaining about ESPN's alleged bias...do people have auto-fill buttons to write these?

It isn't just our fans, I know. For some reason groups of fans watching together all seem to think the refs are against their team. I am sure UK fans did the same the other night.

But the refrain gets old.

From ESPN article on Orlando Brown:

As a team, the Bengals are 30th in pass block win rate. But Brown, who was 18th in win rate as a tackle in 2022 with Kansas City, is 47th in 2023 with the Bengals.

That hasn't stopped the praise from people inside the building, however.

"He's as advertised," Burrow said after the Bengals beat the San Francisco 49ers on Week 8. "He's a great player. Big, strong, athletic. You saw it [against the 49ers] blocking some of the best edge rushers in the league."

Anybody notice Self is much calmer?

And Coach looks so much better physically. Hey, what was up with the BS comment Calipari made to Coach during the half court interview at the start of the game about 2 championship games? It seemed to me Cal was trying to take a shot at Coach and Coach seemed surprised or unprepared for Cal's comment.

IIRC, Holly said they had played in the champ before, and Cal said twice. Then Cal joked, "I won both of them didn't I?" and Self laughed and said something like "Defintely not!" I think it was all good natured.
