This is reminding me of the mid-70s...Podolak into the line twice for 4 yards, pass for 3, then punt.
NCAA is allowing multi-transfer athletes who transfer by the end of this year to play immediately next fall.
Jeremy Fears, Jr., of Mich St had surgery today for a gunshot wound to his leg that occurred after 3 a.m. in his hometown of Joliet.
Seems like the "nothing good happens after midnight" lesson hasn't been universally accepted.

@mayjay HOA’s exist solely because employment opportunities with the Nazi party are no longer a thing
Here I thought that the resurgence of Nazis was the logical outgrowth of Americans creating authoritarian and autocratic enclaves, and submitting to losing their rights in exchange for some perceived economic protection...
Forget everything else I've written.
HOA's.
'Nuff said.

@RockChalkinTexas You are someone who makes this place beyond special. I have appreciated for years how much excitement and joyous fandom you bring to every post. When you also share your pain, your humanity and openness are so deeply moving that words are inadequate in expressing how I come even more to understand how wonderful your marriage was, and what a loss you feel. Especially while surrounded by celebration.
I am so happy for you to have the girls, and I am deeply moved that in all of the tears you come here to wish us merriment!
May your holidays be brightened by the happiest of memories, and may you and your family make many more this and every year as you share the blessings you all had, and have!!! 🎄🎄🎄🎄
Both, is my guess. Audition time for 2024 conference season!
I guess the theory is that the exit fees are meant to be a form of liquidated damages, as the GOR might be. Liquidated damages are damaages for breach of contract that are agreed to in the contract itself because the parties agree that it would be imprecise and hard to calculate damages after a breach actually occurs. CBS has a penalty in the amount of several million in their contracts with everyone involved in Survivor to make sure no one discloses anything, and it has deterred contestants from spilling the beans (even the contract itself has leaked only once in 45 seasons). The amount is huge because no one knows how premature disclosure would affect the ratings and those ratings are consistently high.
There have been many attempts to get liquidated damages tossed out as so excessive they are really punitive damages, which generally do not exist for breach of contract. I would suspect FSU could be pretty convincing that their departure would not hurt anyone to a level anywhere near half a billion bucks.
I will be intrigued if, after bowl season where ESPN controls virtually everything, FSU raises antitrust and restraint of trade issues due to ESPN effectively controlling all the schools' tv rights through the GOR provision. If the ACC admin has some sweetheart side deal with ESPN that brings nothing to the schools, or just benefits for some, the cries of collusion and corruption will be loud and bitter.
Looking forward to it!
@kjayhawks It's all in the name. "Mr. Irrelevant" versus "Manning" isn't likely to command as much respect or as many Benjamins.
Confirmation bias.
On broken glasses: Points for hitting another of my pet peeves: We have vision insurance but it does not cover Lenscrafters, and there isn't a full service one anywhere near us anyway. I used to be able to replace my glasses (bifocals) in 90 mins when we were in the DC area. Now, 1-2 weeks and not as good.
Thanks, everyone. KU has been pretty lucky so far.
How many KU players went into the portal?

That's funny, since my wife says the world is safer because I am unique....

In SC, by the way, a 4 way stop is not a traffic control system. It is the best intelligence test our state has.
@nuleafjhawk No, they did. 😧
@nuleafjhawk You don't give me TOO many fits... My own fat fingers, however, make me nuts!

@mayjay Those are (were?) the names in the KU Football Ring of Honor
Never knew that. I am very surprised Smith isn't on it. He held the career and single season rushing record at KU for awhile.

@dylans Tony Sands, Nick Reid, Gilbert Brown, Larry Brown, Anthony Collins, Nolan Cromwell, Bobby Douglass, Ray Evans, John Hadl, Chris Harris Jr, David Jaynes, Bruce Kallmeyer, Curtis McClinton, Mike McCormack, George Mrkonic, Willie Pless, Tod Reesing, Gil Reich, John Riggins, Gale Sayers, Otto Schnellenbacher, Oliver Spencer, Darrell Stuckey II, Aqib Talib and John Zook
These guys would probably take exception to that. There have been a LOT of good times and memorable moments there.
OMG OMG OMG! Can't have Cromwell without Laverne Smith!
@nuleafjhawk Solving some problems, but these were just pet peeves, small annoyances. The huge crisis issues, such as journalists who have no clue when to use "whom" rather than "who" or (shudder) "that," remain unaddressed.
Of course, we just have to accept that the biggest freakin' emergency of all -- people who say "Johnny nor I were [blah blah blah]" instead of "neither Johnny nor I [blah blah blah" should be shot. But it still, regretfully, ain't legal to do so.
Neither Man nor God can forgive the onslaughts of improper syntax by those who strive to offend those of us to whom these language transgressions are directed.

I hate that, too. Haven't had a problem since I started touching the inside of the coffee cup rim with the tip of the carafe lip, which knocks the last drip off.
And sharing that type of stuff is why the internet was invented!
Ours is rated the 6th best bowl game
Maybe the foundation is worth saving, and if so they won't have to do entirely new pile driving?
I hate medical office portals, especially when they are the same portal system as other offices but still make you create a new log-in.
I hate it when people write "loose" when they mean "lose"...my wife and I refer to those typists as real "loosers."
@jayballer67 Nope, just enjoyed the irony of left field in a fb stadium!

Paul is still one of my great memories at KU.
Do you remember him pulling a muscle his freshman year, delaying his debut, from getting out of a VW Bug in early fall? Gave Ken Koenigs a lot of time.
Angels made a brilliant move not trading him.
@nuleafjhawk The $5 buffet is gone in LV. Better deals on buffets in non-strip outlying casinos, but expensive food in restaurants is still there, too. Lower minimums on table games, but usually crowded with locals. We played for a couple hours on a penny-minimum roulette machine at the Red Rock casino. Fun machine to try various progressive systems (where you increase your bet by some amount after each loss) without risking more than a couple dollars on any given roll of the ball.
@Zabudda Uncle! Uncle!
@wissox The Pinto Beans. An inter-legume war.
@DanR , this is Section 2 ("Principles") of the Protocols you linked to:
The selection committee will select the teams using a process that distinguishes among otherwise comparable teams by considering:
Conference championships won,
Strength of schedule,
Head‐to‐head competition,
Comparative outcomes of common opponents (without incenting margin of victory), and,
Other relevant factors such as unavailability of key players and coaches that may have affected a team’s performance during the season or likely will affect its postseason performance.
Mahomes' problem is that he has lost confidence in the receivers. Last week, he zipped the ball and his passes were on target. Last night and almost every time he has been intercepted, he has been way too cautious--looking like he is trying to place the ball, and everyone knows it is almost a lob rather than a bullet. I think that is also messing up receivers' timing. They look like they are so afraid of making mistakes that they are doing exactly that.
Rx: Simplify the damned routes, and send a couple deep many times. EVERY other freaking team is getting WRs open deep. We have given that up.
The other big problem is PM is staying in the pocket as it collapses. His uniqueness has always been scrambling and finding a way to get the ball to the receiver. The routes being run this year look set in stone, crushing creativity at both ends.
@dylans For me, a fiery ride... No, not that torment place! We don't bury.....
Wifey and I probably would have gone to an Orlando bowl game. Going there Tuesday for 5 nights to see Harry Potter World. No mouse this trip.
Also going to Tampa to see a nephew. Will go to a Chiluly museum. Should be fun!
I think they should have a Manute Memorial Bol.
@Bosthawk It’s funny about watching taped games...my wife, although knowing the outcome, still gets totally stressed watching it. Since we don't watch again if we have lost, I just laugh at her getting so upset.
Oh, the fun us old retired farts have.
"Heh heh, Mabel, let's watch the magical electric box, shall we?"
"Why, yes, but let's take some sedatives to avoid collapsing in fits again."
@Bosthawk I thought the whole production did a great job of showcasing the atmosphere. I doubt if anyone watching needed to be spoonfed a description of what every viewer was already seeing!
@jayhawks2010 Maybe BS is just biding his time, letting Marko develop now, and once that is well along, will gradually add McD to the mix.
And maybe McD is not very impressive in practice. Self always says that is a huge factor in who gets more PT.
@nuleafjhawk 48 is exactly twice our 24! Congrats! I like the 5 and 6 year guys like Mitch the most....
Who was your favorite player of all? I always liked the role players, like Releford, who waited for their turn and cheered everybody on. I remember noticing him in his red-shirt season as being the first guy jumping off the bench at every timeout and break in play.
@nuleafjhawk I was simply referring to you saying you don't care at all about anyone who leaves after one year. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but I am surprised that you are so absolute, with no allowance for career decision-making.
@nuleafjhawk Very strange lack of empathy. Kid has a chance to be a pro player and earn upwards of a hundred million, and you write him off completely because he won't risk that career for the sake of getting maybe a couple hundred thousand while boosting school spirit?
@wissox There once was a real crook who handed the teller a deposit slip with a note on the back about a gun and demanding her cash quietly. Trying to look like nothing was wrong she handed the blank slip back to the guy and said the slip required his name on the front. He went automatic and filled it out, handed it back, and escaped with his money.
For a while. Until they realized he put down his real name.
Truth > fiction
@wissox Great post, but I think Bill won't really care W or L. He will just want to see what works against another high quality opponent...and what doesn't. Great chance to scheme and teach the young'uns.
@wissox On the other hand, looks like this guy played 30 mins 6 days after the last game in NY, so maybe he was milking it or maybe the pain got miserable (been there, done that). In NY Empire Classic, he played 25 mins on the 19th, 17 mins the next night. Can't find details on injury but several articles mention he has been trying to play with it. Not a starter.
The coach was asked if it was due to the injury, and said he had "no idea".
I always try to figure out what's really going on when something as weird as this is reported... and when what is reported has nothing from the other person.
@wissox There may be more to the Louisville story. The player suffered a groin strain when they played in New York, and the tights were a compression style. Could simply be that the player was scared of hurting it again, and needed to work through that reluctance. If it was medically related, not a good look for the coach's cavalier comments.
@nuleafjhawk I lost 62-23 in an intramural game in a law school league. I am 6' and was the center (vertical = @ 4"). The other team's front line had a 6'7" former TE from the UMich fb team as their center and two guys 6'4", and their guards were both 6'2".
I held onto the big guy's wrist one time as he jumped for a tip-in, and he took me higher than I jumped the whole game. He came down, laughed, gave me a low-5, and said "Good try!"
We had zero points or rebounds from our erstwhile center.....
