@jayballer67 Actually, the Packers/Cowboys game did have the most combined points in history of NFL playoffs, and that might have been what you saw.

The most by one team was 73 points by da Bears in 1940. Their total combined points also was 73. Redskins scored zero!

20th most points scored by a playoff team. Pretty good!

If Townsend gets injured, it could come down to a battle of backup punters. Fortunately, ours is a sure-fire future Hall of Famer. Unfortunately, however, Mahomes hasn't punted since HS but he says he is ready if need be.

Maybe if we win everything from here on, incl the championship game, we can move backwards into the 100s, through the 200s and 300s, and go all the way past the lowest rating until it starts over at the top 10.

Like going back to zero when playing the card game Hearts.

Forecast for tonight in Buffalo: 8 to 14 inches. That is on top of everything that fell the last few days causing the reschedule.

Tomorrow afternoon should be fascinating.

@jayballer67 said in Easy Listen KU Podcast with /Drew Gooden:

I had NO IDEA they got any kind of money being on a full athletic ride.

The NCAA relaxed their rules before NIL to allow schools to provide "full cost of attendance" because kids on full scholarship had no additional money to pay for housing during holiday breaks (if dorms were closed) or to travel home, let alone reasonable spending money for when school cafeterias were closed. KU probably had less problems than schools without secial athlete housing. Still, $397 for a school year ain't much.

As I recall, it was an attempt to forestall the clamor to allow kids to earn whatever they could. Obviously, too little flexibility by NCAA, and too late.

I am sure our three-headed board of experts in this stuff can give a more accurate rendition!

@bskeet I signed up through my Roku. If you don't use cable, Roku is a nice app for all our streaming services. (You can load lots of streaming services onto the Roku homepage. Some smart TVs, like Samsung a few years ago, don't have a full selection--but those may be different now. Our LG does.)

Until KU starts having all 5 starters contribute consistently, and gets at least double digits regularly from the bench, nat'l pundits will say we are vulnerable. That can mean not as good as we are ranked, or it can mean that we have a great starting 4 that has taken us to this point. Few teams with no depth make believers of everybody.

I am just surprised that people here get bent out of shape about media saying we are vulnerable, when so so many posts by Boardrats during games, and about our bench, are so pessimistic. If the media voted based on our board, no one would think our fanbase believes we are as good as our rank!

@benshawks08 @wissox In my non-championship career of being a player/coach on 3 college/gov't softball teams for about 13 years, we had one team that was in a league that required 3 women on the field and in the lineup. We had a helluva hard time recruiting women, so we often had players who came out for the fun without any experience in any sport, let alone SB.

The league had seen such unequal things before and actually had rules against any man zipping in front of a woman if the ball was more in her fielding area. Cannot, however, see how that could work in bb except to require all 5 players to cross halfcourt on both offense and defense.

As an aside, I've posted this before: to teach the women to actually swing a bat through the ball, I told them to imagine having a pillow-fight with a husband or boyfriend and swinging at the head. They loved it. Some hubbies and bf's were not so happy, I heard.

@Crimsonorblue22 I decided to look up your grapes, black-eyed peas, and the not cleaning house thing. I knew about some, but wow, I have violated so many today, even laundry! Plus, I hate black-eyed peas and collard greens, and couldn't find any corn bread in the house.

Guess this is the portent of doom in 2024 for me....damn, it seemed to be going so well, too.

@mayjay what happened to my 2nd paragraph? When I go back to edit it's there, but when I go back it's gone again. Do you see it?

Here is what I saw (I only quoted part of it in my reply earlier). There was no paragraph break that I could see, so I don't know if anything is missing:

"@mayjay I don’t sleep well, I always stay up late. Ive been lounging in the am. It’s nice not to set my alarm. Peas are warming, cornbread is cooling. Gonna count out 12 grapes. Guessing it has to be exact. I’ll start a new paragraph to help w/subjects. I’m watching Iowa/Tennessee. We are better and much more exciting than Iowa. We could pass all over them. Plus the cheez-it is not edible! Lol ksu! It’s so crazy to me the difference how professional all bowl games are compared to ours. I mean even the early, lower ones too. Our high school would have changed mics during the game not waiting till half."

I have noticed on my edits of my posts that initially when I return directly to the post it looks like the edits are missing, but if I exit from the thread, and then go back to my post the corrected version is what is there.

The Guaranteed Low-rate Bowl. What I resented the most was the failure to show replays of almost all the penalties. 27 in one game (and those were just the accepted flags) deserved more analysis and exposition. Bhe mic issue was a mixed blessing since it led to a few moments where the commentators were silent!

Thank you very much!

Reesing didn't get a sniff because NFL teams do not want small QBs. He was listed at 5'11" but I remember he was likely a couple inches shorter.

According to The Ringer, "Since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger, 172 quarterbacks have started at least 50 games—only 11 of them were 6-foot or shorter. Among those players are Kyler Murray, Michael Vick, Russell Wilson, and Drew Brees."

He was probably also hurt by KU losing the last 6 games of the 2009 season, and having 7 interceptions in those games.

Guaranteed Rate Bowl News • Dec 26, 2023 03:26 PM

The combine might have resulted in fewer players participating in bowl games. I have no doubt that except for the stars who won't go there anyway, most players sitting out have been told that a bowl performance won't help their prospects. Whereas a stellar showing in the combine would raise their draft status a lot. An injury in the season could likely be recovered enough to do well, but the time after late bowl games is a lot shorter. Can't blame them a bit.

All the fans griping about loyalty won't pay a dime toward making up any injured player's lower earnings if they blow out a knee or Achilles. Fans demand loyalty entirely at the player's risk.
