Not so fast! The 1992-93 season has to count as the best. Football won the Aloha Bowl in December, Women's BB went to the NCAA and ended up ranked 24th, Men's BB went to Final Four, and KU Baseball made its only College World Series appearance. Only 31 years ago, how could anyone forget?

I just got done reading about Evans' contract being exaggerated. This is from Mike Florio at NBC:

@wissox Very true! And it is really fun to listen to Cardinals fans who act as if that call let a game-winning run score. Ignoring that the score after Orta's single was still 1-0 SL, and the later 2-run single only tied the series at 3 games each. Then they got blown away (11-0) in game 7 because they were so busy whining and pouting.
@kjayhawks Haven't bet on KU since the 2002 tournament. It ruins just cheering for them.

1988 Unranked Jayhawks winning as #6 seed with 3rd biggest upset in champ history, 2008 Jayhawks down by 9 with 2:09 to go, 2020 SB Chiefs down by 10 with 6 min to go in 4th qtr (after trailing 10+ pts in both playoff games), 2022 Jayhawks down by 16 in 2d qtr (15 at half), 2023 Chiefs down by 10 at halftime, 2024 Chiefs down by 10 in 1st qtr (and by 3 in OT).
Oddly, the historically pathetically Royals' 2015 World Series win was not close. The 1985 one was, though, requiring coming back from 1 game to 3 in both the ALCS and the WS.
So, going back 39 years, 7 of 8 championships by KC area teams were nailbiters.
Face it: we wouldn't know what to do if we were cheering for a team that just stomped its way to victory.
Maybe we've got 'em where we want 'em.

My wife and I were at that Tennessee game and I have never seen opposing fans treat visitors better than we experienced. A few guys ran by us cheering as we walked away from the arena, and they saw our shirts. They stopped, and said "Oh, sorry!" We said, "Enjoy it! You deserve to cheer." They thanked us and ran away laughing.
I don't know what you saw, but we were at the very top row behind at one end, so if anything happened down where binoculars weren't needed we might have missed it.
Was there a court storming way down there?
@nuleafjhawk @dylans I think the Chiefs' staff is very set and working like a finely tuned instrument. It could be difficult to bring him back without inpinging on someones's job. They all said his talk to the players in the playoffs was inspiring, but that doesn't mean he could slip into a cheerleader role. Not having a place that fits him doesn't mean they wouldn't consider him if a job had opened up. The rapid extensions given Toub, Spags and others show the Chiefs don't want to upset the apple cart.
@rockchalkjayhawk I read the quotes from his interview where he talked about his prospects. I like Bienemy a lot, but those quotes sounded pretty self-deluding. I seriously doubt he could have stayed with Washington. I think UCLA is a good place for him to escape this constant scrutiny of why he never gets hired as a HC. It could be racism as suspected by many, but the man has racked up some questionable police interactions over the years. Good time to blaze a new (cleaner) path.
Probably reflects the high mins/game played by the starters. Lack of bench gets reflected in poor shooting percentages, less energy to get rebounds and steals, more turnovers,.... basically anything exhaustion affects.
If we were talking about an occasional game, it wouldn't be so important because, yes, these guys should be conditioned well enough to go the distance sometimes. But there is a reason deep teams don't always play their starters 85%-100% of available minutes.

The "tear down anyone famous brigade" is now out in full force for Travis Kelce smiling while posing for a selfie with a cop Wed evening, and for a few Chiefs and wives smiling while posing for a group picture in a bar that was holding their private post-parade function they decided to go through with.
The judgmentalism in our culture makes me sick. Reminds me of a guy who came up to me at my father's memorial service offended by our minister for reading numerous funny things he found in my father's papers to which we gave him access. This guy thought laughter was totally inappropriate. I told him I found that attitude offensive because the eulogy captured my father perfectly.
Later, we had the KU/KState bb game on in the den as people gathered at the house. Everyone understood my Dad would have wanted it that way, but I got a kick out of thinking Mr. Grinch would have discorporated on the spot.
Travis was with one of the many cops whose dedication was amazing that day, and was happy to give him a happy memory amidst everything. The players at the bar being there instead of stiffing the owner and employees...trying to have some normalcy in the shadow of chaos is not a crime.
@dylans So why not have more controls over who can get guns, so as to protect against those bad people? Why not have mandatory training and restrictions on carrying guns openly in public areas?
I understand gun ownership for protection but don't think that means walking down the street holding assault weapons.
The country has survived with restrictions on types of guns like machine guns.

@nuleafjhawk I know! I would cruise again in a heartbeat. But with my wife sooooooo sensitive to any rolling of an 1100 ft vessel, I think we will go places for land vacations instead. We are very anxious to visit Italy, and going on land will be a great chance to explore Rome, Florence, and Naples. Interested in Anzio, Pompei, Vesuvius...can't see much in the few hours you port in those places on a cruise. We have timeshares we can trade, too.

@jayballer67 That one would be the traditional norovirus caused by inadequate hand washing (after....well, you know) and then touching handrails, doors, food implements at the buffet, theater armrests, deck chairs, etc. Supposedly quite miserable. Haven't heard of it here (yet) fortunately.
As some of you may remember, my wife and I scheduled, and due to the pandemic canceled, 5 cruises in 2020-2022. In August 2022, we finally set one for departure Feb 3 and waited 1.5 yrs for it to arrive so we could celebrate our 25th. Departed from Ft Lauderdale and had a wonderful time. Aruba, Bonaire, Curacoa. Explored the islands, bought souvenirs.
So, of course....
Tested positive for covid today (just a cold I thought; no fever or aches) and will be in isolation for the last 2 days until Sunday. Just days at sea, though (no stops). Wifey is still negative but she is seasick because we are hitting 6 ft seas until tomorrow afternoon. At least I can get room service for free, but she doesn't. Tonight is lobster night, but she likely won't go. Don't have to dress up anymore, at least.
Fortunately, I love reading on the veranda and watching the waves. And I still have 1/2 liter of Scotch.... Being from Kansas, I think I have genetic immunity to motion sickness--our families survived the rocking wagons onto the Plains, while my wife's ancestors stayed in the east on stationary ground.
We are probably done with cruising. Nice while it lasted....
Driving 500 miles back home on Sunday, hopefully in time for Chiefs!

Chiefs fans = stress added on every year
I remember attending a KU vs ISU game in the old Big 8 preseason Holiday Tournament. The I State coach managed to get 3 technicals arguing 1 call, and because he wouldn't leave after being ejected. 10 point play in all (2 shot foul, 2 x 3 for techs, we got possession afterwards and scored). Fun times!
Transfer portal takes the backups to other schools so top teams have less margin for error. These are good players getting spread out to lesser teams and developing once they have a chance to play twice as much.
@wissox I know nothing of the particulars but I would think hanging over everything is that Arterio already f'ed up his second chance so there wasn't much chance of him being able to prove he could be trusted. The IL injunction might have been issued due to whether U of I followed its procedures, questionable strength of prosecutor's case (including uncooperative witnesses), whether the cops/prosecutors failed to share evidence with the staff trying to suspend, and maybe a stronger agreement to monitor him.
I can't imagine Self wanted Morris back and I doubt a judge would buy into overriding that discretion. Maybe U of I really was halfhearted about booting their guy.
All conjecture because I handled way too many horrible cases so I don't read too much about them any more!

I happened to run across my post from Feb 14, 2019, where we were all trying to figure out what would happen with the NCAA case. I was arguing that they had no proof KU knew about Adidas' shenanigans, but they could still get us for having ineligible SDSousa:
" If they hold KU responsible for everything adidas did, it will be bad. If we show we had no way of knowing, then vacating wins and the F4 are probably the result."
Every once in a while it is fun to find out I was so smart when I was younger!

No, I think the weird desire to worship analytics cost you the game. 4th and 1 at the 11, went for it because analytics says that is best. BS, when GB had not demonstrated any domination in the run game. A 9.5 pt underdog going against a great defensive line should take any points possible. If they had been gaining 4 to 5 yds regularly, sure, go for it.

KSU used to be but when they got rid of Squeaky they got an automatic 5 year release for good behavior. Same thing happened to Indiana when they got rid of Bobby Knight, but Sampson put them back into the depths. Texas is there just...because.
Duke never fired K so they have not earned their way out even though he is gone.
