@mayjay KU lost

"We" means "Jayhawks" not KU. Here is my reasoning:

I am a Jayhawk (singular). We are Jayhawks (plural).

I am not a KU (singular).

So, us Jayhawks, the winning team, won. Hopefully, the Jayhawks will win more games than this one!

@approxinfinity This Board, a neighborhood board, and passively looking at close (i.e., real) friends posts on Facebook are my only social media connections outside texting family and doctors.

The social media world has passed me by as surely as computer games left me in the dust of the Microsoft Solitaire age.

Hypocrisy, however, has always existed and lives in the evil in people's hearts. All of what we see in social media are windows into those hearts. To paraphrase, "By their ravings ye shall know them."

Back to my incipient dementia.....

@REHawk But he won't get anything. There will no videos taken by the surrounding passengers on Calvert's flight. His injuries will be as mysterious as, well, gee--who remembers what happened in 1981 Skidmore, Missouri, to the town bully? Crowd of 20 to 40 people, and no one knows what happened. He was that popular!

I have not yet read the apology.

From Matt Galloway's column on the Topeka CJ site:

Lawson issued an apology Thursday night for his remarks, writing that Memphis will forever be his home and that he wishes Smith and the Tigers the best moving forward.

“On behalf of my family and myself I would like to issue an apology to coach Tubby Smith and Tiger Nation,” Lawson wrote. “Despite my frustrations of the past year, my words and actions at the time were immature, thoughtless and not becoming of who I am as a person or how my family raised me.

“This momentary (digression) can jeopardize the most important thing in my life,” he continued. “I apologize for my inexcusable behavior.”

Several update issues • Apr 14, 2017 11:59 AM

@approxinfinity Since the updates I know you have been working out some compatibility issues. So far for me, there are 3 of concern (using only my phone).

First, I can't scroll through threads properly--annoying, but eventually can do it with patience. It will stop advancing after about 8 to 12 posts, and the down or up buttons do not break it free. If I flick quickly sometimes it advances, but usually I have to hit the top banner several times before a refresh button appears, which usually opens up a new group.

Second, I can't go to Chats off my main menu, it just highlights the command without going anywhere--I have to go to the profile of any user I am chatting with, and chose chat from their page. (So if someone else initiates a chat, I have to guess who unless I have a notification.)

Third, I cannot embed pictures or documents in a post anymore. It used to have a "Document" choice under the picture icon in the composing command bar (from there, I could go to any document on my phone, including images) but now it just puts the (!alt text/url) stuff in the post. Apparently I would have to upload a pic somewhere. No idea how that works. Can we get that choice for embedding pics back? I usually post screenshots, after editing them.

The 1st 2 have workarounds, but the third one will eliminate any use of pictures from me unless there is an easy command as there used to be. I don't want to upload my images outside the Board to get them onto the Board.

No hurry! As usual, thanks for working so hard on all this!

Oh, discovered a 4th: the emoji icon is now visible on the comman bar but I see only their names, no images of any of them. I can use my keyboard emojis, but they apparently aren't always compatible with everybody.

@Kcmatt7 said in Lawson Brothers Coming to KU:

nothing sitting out a year won’t blow over.

My fingers will be crossed for at least a year. (Is arthritis worse for basketball fans?)

Suits directly between states are always federal, I believe, and actually the Supreme Court has original jurisdiction over those cases. (I think they usually get sent to lower courts for fact-finding.) These don't come up very often. One area where they have, as I recall, is fights among western states over water rights from the Colorado River.

Loving the discussion on federal jurisdiction! You all raise lots of concerns that have taken thousands of courts millions of words to explore and not settle yet!

In my own view, it would depend on who is suing whom, the potential third parties involved, and -- most specifically -- what the heck the lawsuit is based on.

I can see a UNC drop out of the ACC leading to a major damages suit by the conference and other members seeking to recover lost NCAA tourney fees and advanced TV fees, plus any amount due for leaving the conference. That would certainly be federal due to diversity of the parties and amount involved. Unless arbitration clauses kicked it out of court.

Or UNC could sue in state court for a declaratory judgment holding that they have a right to withdraw due to contract abridgement or untenable changed conditions or even statutory requirements imposed by NC legislature. That would get removed to federal court by any out-of-state defendants or possibly by unnamed parties seeking to intervene because they would be the real parties at interest in a case. (Example: UNC sues ACC, hqrtered in Greensboro, in NC state court to allow withdrawal, but other ACC members from NY to Florida intervene as defendants and remove to federal court raising counterclaim for damages in millions of $.)

Just 2 examples. Many variations are possible, and, as always, you get what you pay for in legal thinking on this Board.

He said "play with anyone". Great for team cohesiveness.

Kevin Knox... • Apr 12, 2017 06:03 PM

@brooksmd Agreed! Who the heck is Kevin Knox?

According to Worldometers, "the current population of the United States of America is 325,944,738 as of Tuesday, April 11, 2017, based on the latest United Nations estimates."

I, like 325,944,600 other Americans, will not be watching. There might be 100 watching from the schools he is tormenting. The other 38 are his coach, friends, and relatives, and most of those will be in attendance no doubt.

@jayballer54

Thanks for keeping me in "dream land!"

I think the outside chance of him staying could have to do with his competitive level. He knows if he stayed one more year he would completely dominate college basketball.

It is tough to create that kind of talent separation in the NBA. Even if he becomes dominant, he is just one of several dominant players on that stage.

I know Josh felt bad after that loss. He carried his share of the responsibility for that loss. Maybe he doesn't want to leave college basketball on such a sour note?

It is such a pity if we can't realize a bit more of his potential while in college.

Very nice dream! But I would think the only reason for JJ not to declare yet is to give him time to select an agent he will name when he announces. That would keep the pack of wolves from descending on him if he announced without one.

For those asking about scholarships • Apr 11, 2017 11:41 AM

@BShark Matt Tait is on ESPN's side:

Dedric Lawson will have two years of eligibility remaining after sitting out the upcoming season and K.J. Lawson, if he applies for and is granted a sixth year of eligibility because of injury issues earlier in his career, would have three years of eligibility remaining.

Editing my prior dogmatic assertions!

For those asking about scholarships • Apr 11, 2017 11:39 AM

@BShark On the other hand, ESPN said he needs a waiver:

Dedric Lawson will have two years remaining after sitting out the 2016-17 season, while K.J. will have three if he can get an NCAA waiver for a sixth year of eligibility.

Maybe that is just a time period waiver based on the 4 years eligible in a 5 year period. Probably perfunctory for medical redshirts since the rule seems designed to avoid stacking in a program.

But, both sources cannot be right so more Googling on the way!

For those asking about scholarships • Apr 11, 2017 11:26 AM

@BShark Just repeating what the articles are saying.

And we know the internet is never wrong!

For those asking about scholarships • Apr 11, 2017 11:23 AM

@BShark I believe the transfer sit next year, after a medical redshirt previously, will not cost him a year of eligibility. It is commonly referred to as a redshirt, but it is not the same. So he doesn't need to petition or get a waiver. 3 yrs left once they are eligible. Dedrick will have 2.

Edit: I'm not so sure anymore....sources differ!

Lawson Brothers Coming to KU • Apr 11, 2017 11:18 AM

Lots of articles say Tarik Black and Lagerald Vick sold the brothers on KU and HCBS.

For those asking about scholarships • Apr 11, 2017 11:14 AM

@BShark He was injured in 2015-16 with an Achilles injury, and only played 10 games. Received a medical redshirt, so he has 3 yrs left.

Edit: maybe... see below

Bragg is leaving • Apr 10, 2017 04:03 PM

@drgnslayr If it were only basketball, I would agree that Bragg should just stick it out. But the off-court issues have probably made him feel like a marked man. Socially awkward at best for his last 2 years of college, and likely in the crosshairs of the L PD, not to mention likely being on permanent probation with the coaches and the school.

And then, too, we don't know how much his teammates actually want him around after his season ended with him not playing vs Ore despite our desperate need for inside help. This might be the biggest unknown.

All in all, leaving gives him a good chance to just go forward. Having to prove no more than any transfer. I say, let the kid have a new chance for college to be fun.

Cogent point. It reminds me of the time an appliance repairman was talking to my father-in-law and my FIL said, "I sure miss those old refrigerators. I had one that lasted 30 years. They don't make 'em like they used to." The repairman said, "Yeah, fixing those things kept me in business. Ever notice how many didn't last 30 years?"

The point is, we notice exceptions like that refrigerator--or Frank--after they prove exceptional. But there aren't all too many of those exceptions, and they are awfully hard to spot at the beginning.

Big night for Frank Mason 111-BIFM • Apr 08, 2017 07:40 PM

@wissox I wasn't trying to be contentious, just discussing, too! I just think the notoriety of playing for Davidson would have given Curry a much greater chance of getting awards than anyone at Towson. But I do think Frank would have transferred out to a bigger program.

The info about Towson certainly put into better perspective for me what a major step up he took when changing to KU--more than a step, more like an elevator!

Big night for Frank Mason 111-BIFM • Apr 08, 2017 06:31 PM

@wissox Towson could not be spoken of in the same breath as Davidson, and I doubt the term "mid-major" could apply to both schools. Look at their basketball pedigrees.

Towson appeared in the Division 2 tourney twice in the 70s (3-2 record, losing first in the Elite 8 and next in the regional finals), and lost its opening games in the only two appearances it has made in the Division 1 tourney, in 1990 and 91. Towson has won a total of 3 conference championships, in 90, 91, and 92.

Contrast that with Davidson, which was a pretty renowned mid-major even before Curry arrived:

!Screenshot_2017-04-08-14-17-47-1.png ↗

The suggestion that Frank could have ridden Towson to heights comparable to what Curry did at Davidson is wishful thinking, I am afraid. Curry went to a school with a history of success. Frank might well have toiled in oblivion.
