@JayhawkRock78 I'm tired this morning. I spent half the night playing those songs in my head. I love pretty much all of those songs you listed. It would be interesting (to me, anyway) to have the posters here list 10 or 15 ( or 26! ) of their favorite songs. Music is my passion after KU. I have NO musical ability, but I sure do love to listen to it........
" You think I'll have a hard time finding tickets for the KU vs Texas game? "
my stupid brother in law
@Crimsonorblue22 LOL - I might frame this and hang it in my living room !
@KUSTEVE I'm not sure - has he made any references to Chicken Hawkettes?
@globaljaybird Great story. As far as the actual song, I don't normally go for that type of music, but I can honestly say that I really, really enjoyed that song. I've noticed that pretty much anything that is truthful and beautiful is worth the time!
@globaljaybird I don't know man - you coming up with all these awesome quotes is kinda making me feel inferior.....lol
@jaybate-1.0 Maybe it's time for all of college sports to restructure.
Everyone should stick with one sport. What they do best.
Obviously, Kansas' sport should be basketball.
Alabama can have football.
Who gets baseball? LSU? Arizona St? Cal St Fullerton? Who cares.
A Capella? I don't know, Berklee College of Music. Possibly USC or BYU. I'd personally give it to Berklee for the name of their team:
" Pitch Slapped ".
Kentucky gets Moonshine Brewing.
Missouri - Meth Lab U, what else?
Something for the powers that be to consider.
@kubuckets said:
“I’m only asking for September,” Weis said during his seven-minute address. “You give me September, and I’ll give you a reason to come in October and November.”
I don't know Charlie; I think I'm busy in October and November.....
If it's true that practice makes perfect, I see KU leading the nation in punting for the rest of eternity.
Trevor Pardula will finish up his career at KU as the nation's leading punter, be drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs and will re-write every punting record ever written.
The Ray Guy award will be renamed the Trevor Padula award on the day of Trevor's retirement from the NFL. He will be admitted to the NFL Hall of Fame the same day that he retires.
Lawrence will probably be renamed Padulatown. If you're a High School punter wanting to be recognized by the NFL, Padulatown is Mecca for you. Nowhere will you get more practice than Padulatown, Ks.
And Practice Makes Perfect.
@JayhawkRock78 Rust, and jaybate 1.0, never sleeps......
@JayHawkFanToo "but it is also true that he can flat out coach."
I've got to wait until he's not in a Cupcake Conference to make that settle that statement in my mind. Just sayin.....
@JayHawkFanToo Thank you so much! I really appreciate that.
@jaybate-1.0 I consider myself somewhat of a vehicle aficionado, having grown up in the 60's and 70's when cars were not only works of art, but high performance machines. I also watch at least 1,000 hours per week of the Barrett-Jackson Auto-Auctions (that may be a slight exaggeration.....) - but I think that GM "Parade of Progress" is possibly the coolest vehicle I have ever seen! I want one!! And I'd never seen one before you posted this. Thanks!
@approxinfinity "I too am a Jayhawk by choice inherited through my wife."
I love your wife.... you know what I mean !
@globaljaybird I'm very, very sorry for your losses.
It's been a tragic, yet enlightening year for me too. Tragic in that I've been to 9 funerals this year ( I wish I were exaggerating....), but enlightening in that He sustains us and gets us through it all. On a brighter note, (it won't sound like it for a little bit, but hang on) - my best friend was diagnosed on August 5th with a baseball sized brain tumor. They said that there was a 90% chance that it was malignant. They operated on Aug. 19th and said they got 85% of it. The MRI the next day showed NOTHING. No trace. When the pathology came back, they said it was benign. She doesn't have to do chemo, and is expected to make a full recovery!
Then, my dad was having some urinary problems (sorry...) and an x-ray showed a spot on his bladder. After much scrutiny and testing, they decided it was cancer (caught it very early) and operated to get rid of it. The surgery went perfectly. The recovery did not.
He was supposed to spend one night in the hospital. Today is day eight. Until noon yesterday, he had not had any food since Wed. 9/3/14. He had a tube running through his nose down into his stomach siphoning "stuff" that was making him nauseous 24/7. Thank God he finally had a breakthrough yesterday and has been improving at an incredible rate since then. They are going to release him on Saturday, providing all goes well until then.
I don't want to preach, I know that's not the purpose of this site, but my goodness - I honestly don't know how people get through stuff like this without Him. I couldn't. I know - I tried for more than half my life.
@jayhawkbychoice Thank you !! You just put a smile on my face!
But, you may want to raise your standards......
Welcome aboard! Prepare to be enraged, challenged and entertained. Sounds like a UFC match, huh? I've been on other sports sites and nothing compares to this one. It's a bunch of intelligent, sincere, fun, funny die-hard Jayhawk fans and alum and I spend WAY too much time on this site because I love it!!
@drgnslayr Back in the day, I was a HUGE Black Sabbath fan. (I still like them, just don't listen to them much any more) I always felt that their musicianship was very much under-appreciated, especially by the media. I had every album they ever put out and always felt that their name was much more menacing than their music and/or lyrics. I got to see them in concert in Houston, but it was just after Ozzy had left and Ronnie James Dio was the front man. I was a little disappointed ( cuz I was USED to Ozzy! ), but it was still a pretty good show.
To me, music and cars from that era just can't be matched. I think I loved almost every car ever made from 1967 - to 1970 ( hey - same as the Beatles album.....) and similarly, I love much of the music from that era.
@globaljaybird Yes, that would have been much better......but what I said is much better than what I was thinking, whatever that's worth.
The category here says " General Discussion ". Subtitle - " Talk about whatever you want ".
I'm going to give you folks a link to a story (maybe someone can really link it because I don't quite get how to do that.....). Many of you will think it's not appropriate. It has Nothing to do with sports. But it's a story about a local businessman in Kansas City, and to me, it's an amazing story.
If it makes a difference to at least one person, that will give me great joy. And I completely understand, in our society today, if it's deemed not proper for this site and it disappears - well, I tried.
If any of you have 10 minutes sometime today, I'd at least be interested in what you think of this video. Please give it at least two minutes.....
@JayHawkFanToo - Thank you! My goal is to someday not be quite as stupid as I am right now. Until then, I will gladly lean on friends like you.
@drgnslayr I don't like Weber either. He just seems to be too ...............(trying to be sensitive and politically correct) ........light on his feet. Something like that. My take is the he can't recruit but seems to do ok with good players that he inherits. I won't miss him when he's gone.
I was looking at a stat recently that blew my mind. Kansas' Bill Self is our 8th basketball coach. EIGHTH. Since 1898.
Brucey is K-State's 23rd coach. T W E N T Y - T H R E E. Their eighth coach was a gentleman by the name of Charles Corsaut, who coached from 1923 - 1933 and was 89-81.
@globaljaybird I do like me some "Frankenstein"......
[Link to Frankeinstein...](
(I gave up trying to link it - got it to turn blue, but it wouldn't go anywhere when you clicked on it)
Fixed it for you... :)
@wissoxfan83 When I was young, I hated K-State with a (purple) passion. Now that I'm aged to near perfection, I don't mind K-State so much. Still don't care for them in basketball, but I respect the heck out of Bill Snyder and will root for them in football when they don't play us.
Missouri - When I was young, I hated Missouri. Now I hate them worse. I have not, nor will I ever root for them in any sport.
@wissoxfan83 I hope you're not serious about not mentioning the Badgers on here again. Shoot - most of us have other teams that pique our interest, or players, or coaches or whatever. There's no sin in cheering for another team if you have roots or interest there.
Unless they're playing Kansas!
In which case, there could be a public lynching. Lol.
@drgnslayr Please tell me those are droplets of sweat on the Charlie Weis gnome....
@approxinfinity Yes, It seemed to me that the team lost it's spark about the same time that the crowd left.
@Crimsonorblue22 Yeah, but they're really smart High Schools.....
@JayHawkFanToo In Salina, it's on Cox channel 22 (2022 HD). I guess if you don't have Cox that's probably not a great help......
@approxinfinity If you're taking orders, put me down for one! XL
@JayHawkFanToo I was trying to find a way to show what a great coach Self is during the season and how less than great he is during March, but looking at statsheet.com kind of humbled me a little bit.
When you compare Self against the average among active coaches, he looks pretty dang good. Consider the following:
Self - (all statistics are with Kansas) NCAA Tournaments -15
Average active coaches - 2.2
Self - FINAL FOURS -2
Average active coaches - .18
Conference Tournament Titles - 7
Average active coaches - .96
The one that really got MY attention was this:
NBA DRAFT PICKS - 16
Average active coaches - 1.52
As a somewhat out of control Jayhawk B-Ball fan, who expects to at least go to the Final Four every year, I'm often greatly disappointed in March ( I know - so are most other fans ) but these stats really did get my attention.
@drgnslayr Nice story!
Come March, anybody want to chip in with me on hot dog money for Coach? (Like he needs more money)
@JRyman "I can't wait tip kickoff Saturday so I can look at my wife and say "There's always next year""
Thank goodness someone said it before I did!! Lol
@drgnslayr Made me think his parents must be lunatics.
Almost two weeks into the season and we're STILL undefeated !!
@kubuckets I think Termaine Fulton may want to re-visit exactly what " we can play with Notre Dame " means.
In my book, you get beat 48-13 - you're not playing with anybody but yourself.
@JayhawkRock78 I forgot - do they take those billboards down during basketball season??
@JayhawkRock78 My dad lives just outside of Austin. I was there in July and about peed myself when I saw one of those billboards!!
The big sports headline in the Salina Journal this morning:
UPBEAT 'CATS
K-State coach Bill Snyder, often difficult to please, praises team's effort as season nears
...." I think we're reasonably on track," he said. " The effort has been good during this period of time."
That is the equivalent of any other coach saying " We're pretty much unstoppable - we're going to kick some butt and take some names this year."
@brooksmd God bless her, she looks exhausted. That was a terrible time in our society - I was very upset with the media at the time. I know things like that have to be covered, but the &%$#ing media wants to make everything into a reality show or sitcom with no compassion for the people going through it or the ones sacrificing their time and energy to help. It's reality all right, but no sitcom AT ALL.
@Crimsonorblue22 It's starting to remind me of the old K-State games. When I was a kid (15 or 16) one of my friend/enemies was a crazy KSU fan. I bet him $20 ( a HUGE amount of money for me - then and now!) that Oklahoma would beat K-State and I gave him 60 points. (Mostly to just be a butt) Oklahoma won 63-0. He was so mad I don't think he talked to me for a year. Didn't pay me either.
SEC teams rush to schedule the Kansas Jayhawks
Posted by Brent Sobleski on August 26, 2014, 6:04 PM EDT
Kansas Jayhawks football is growing in popularity, albeit for all the wrong reasons.
As conferences attempt to improve their non-conference schedules in order to be more attractive options for the College Football Playoff, the Jayhawks are one of the few teams which play in a Power Five conference that are still classified as a potential “cupcake” on the schedule.
SEC teams, in particular, have been quite interested in scheduling the Jayhawks in recent weeks.
Heard this today: The week the SEC announced mandated non-con games against BCS (or big five) teams, KU received "about seven calls."
— Rustin Dodd (@rustindodd) August 26, 2014
Kansas’ reputation precedes itself. The program can’t escape the fact its 9-39 the past four seasons. And the Jayhawks are expected to finish last in the Big 12 Conference again this season. The program is essentially seen as a loophole in the SEC’s mandate.
The Jayhawks aren’t eager to regularly play against teams from the best conference in college football. And it may be the first time the program can actually turn down requests from other programs.
But don't expect KU to have any home-and-homes with SEC teams, KU official says. Non-conference slate is pretty full through the decade.
— Rustin Dodd (@rustindodd) August 26, 2014
Schedules are generally created years in advance. The Jayhawks have a full non-conference slate through 2017, and they’re not exactly playing against powerhouse programs. The one team that’s been highly successful the Jayhawks face during that period is the Duke Blue Devils this season.
Kansas does currently have one opening in its non-conference schedule in 2018. And the program has two openings for the 2019 and 2020 season. SEC teams may have to fight over those opportunities to actually play Kansas in the future. At that point, Kansas may be able to leverage a home-and-home series with an SEC program.
@HighEliteMajor I want conference titles. I want National titles. I want to rule the Universe.
@approxinfinity WHAT'S AN ANNUAL RAISE?
@jaybate-1.0 Thank you.
(no sarcasm)
@wissoxfan83 Not me.
Now if Nick were coaching basketball and Bill were coaching football things might be different.
@jaybate-1.0 Being the highly intuitive being that I am, I sense that there's a sad story waiting to be written about why you are not the world's biggest football fan. I'd be interested to hear it sometime if you're up to talking about it....
Try to remember the kind of September
when life was slow and oh, so mellow.
Try to remember the kind of September
when grass was green and grain was yellow.
Try to remember the kind of September
when you were a tender and callow fellow,
Try to remember and if you remember then follow.
Try to remember when life was so tender
that no one wept except the willow.
Try to remember when life was so tender that
dreams were kept beside your pillow.
Try to remember when life was so tender that
love was an ember about to billow.
Try to remember and if you remember then follow
" Try To Remember * - Tom Jones
There Charlie - I gave you September. I'm not so sure about October, November and December though - here's the last part of the song:
Deep in December it's nice to remember
altho you know the snow will follow.
Deep in December it's nice to remember
without the hurt the heart is hollow.
Deep in December it's nice to remember
the fire of September that made us mellow.
Deep in December our hearts should remember and follow.
