I think Charlie Weis would make one helluva politician.
@KGphoto KG - I had NO idea about the ALS. So I want to apologize if I offended anyone, but I wish they'd come up with a different scenario. Have someone dump a bucket of ice water on you and you'll know what I mean - I think it has the potential to be dangerous.
Honestly, I did not know about it -I'm very socially inept. I never watch news - just sitcoms and reality shows. When I "read" the newspaper, it's sports/comics and classifieds.
@drgnslayr lol - leave it to you.
I think I've got a six-pack of that out in the garage. I'll let you know when I find them.
Hmmmm - the South Eastern Corrections conference leads the country in arrests.
Shocking.
@JayHawkFanToo Thanks for the tip. Being just a tad ornery, most of the time I usually like to let people figure it out for themselves. If they can't and they get ticked off ..........................
For the love of God, can we please get over this idiotic ice-bucket thing NOW?
Has anyone ever had a bucket of ice water dumped on them? It happened to me when I won my first Super Bowl and I dang near had a heart attack. I'm SURE others really have had heart attacks as a result of this moronic feat.
STOP IT NOW - IT'S STUPID
Now a well placed bucket of tepid water on a lovely lady..................
.
.
.
Oh yeah - just kidding about the Super Bowl
@joeloveshawks Man - get off the fence. Do you like Cal or not??
" or you are good at having your balls stolen. "
It's gonna take me a minute to clean up the coffee from my desk and keyboard.....
@globaljaybird I'm not jb, but i believe that ua will be the heaviest of all hitters before long.
@kubuckets It would be an awesome idea to take the one standout player on defense (Heeney) and put him in a position to get hurt too.......
Still can't find that sarcasm font.
@globaljaybird When you see the larger avatar and number of followers/etc... look back up to the top right of the screen. Hopefully you'll see the "Edit, Settings & Profile" boxes that were mentioned above. That's what happens on my screen anyway..... Good Luck. I just got lucky when I found mine, I was about ready to go grab my 12 year old neighbor and have him figure it out for me!
@approxinfinity Lol - you mean I got it right?? I'm not too techy, but that seemed right to me.
Wow.
That's it.
Wow.
@globaljaybird Did you get an answer to your question about editing to include an email?
If not, you should be able to by clicking on your avatar in the top right corner of the screen. Then click on your user name. You should see three boxes - 1) Edit 2) Settings 3) Profile . Click on "Edit" and you should be able to put in an email address, then scroll to the bottom and hit " Save Changes "
If you already have an answer, sorry for wasting your time!
@Crimsonorblue22 I'm guilty of being " attitudinal " some times, but dang it - can you imagine how things would be if we all really treated each other the way we want to be treated?
@brooksmd Thanks for the tip! Personally, I'd go to the game if there were nothing else to do and the price was right. I know my dad would like to meet Coach Snyder, but the chances of that are slim! We'll probably do some other wholesome family activity - watch football on TV, then go to the casino. Lol. Thanks again.....
One of the many reasons I LOVE this site and it's posters:
Aug. 15 local sports briefs: K-State football tickets scarce
On the other site this would have brought out all KINDS of ugly. "This is a KU site - who gives a crap about K-State or anybody else". Blah blah blah.
Here - we wind up praising their coach! Thanks global - and all the rest of you who are reasonable, objective and decent men and women.
@JayhawkRock78 I hope I don't get banned for life from this site for what I'm about to say. My dad, who lives just outside of Austin, Tx is coming to visit sometime in September. He's a Longhorn fan, but he has a HUGE man-crush on Bill Snyder.
My dad grew up in Kansas and knows all too well just how miserable of a program that K-State was for decades. He is so impressed with Bill Snyder, as a coach and as a man that he jokingly (???) thinks he should run for President of the United States. (Right now, I think I'd go along with that sentiment.....)
Anyway, I thought I'd see what home games K-State played during September and tell him to come at that time and we'd catch a game and see if he could actually meet Coach Snyder. They have two home games in September. The Auburn game is sold out and last I looked, the UTEP game still had a few standing room only tickets left. Yeah, that's gonna happen..........
I remember vividly listening to Snyder's speech when K-State first hired him and I thought " This poor SOB has no idea what kind of humiliation he's in for. "
I'm a great judge of talent.
@wissoxfan83 I was very enthused about going to the bowl games, especially the ORANGE, but I'd be lying if I said that I was wild about Mangino at the time. I guess a few seasons of 1 or 2 wins each has made him a much better coach in my eyes.
I always liked what I knew of his personality. He was witty and had a good sense of humor; both things I appreciate.
Since he's been gone, I've found myself following what's going on with him and I always wish him well. I hope he has great success at ISU (except when they play us of course!). Hopefully he'll be back as a head coach somewhere soon.
Oh, and I hope Lew Perkins has a permanent case of irritable bowel syndrome. And jock itch.
@approxinfinity - lol, I forgot Big Brother Santa was watching. That's as risque as I'll get. For now.
1) He would have been an idiot.
2) Not sure Mangino lost his cool as much as Perkins had a hard-on for him. (Can I say that? If not, someone edit it for me please)
3) We would only have 4 NC's and still have 10 straight CC's.
@globaljaybird I appreciate the wisdom and advice. I know what it takes, but lately motivation has been the real problem. Man, when I was in my 20's - mid 40's, I absolutely would NOT miss a workout. Everything else had to wait until I was done. (Not such great advice for a marriage/family plan, but fortunately I was able to work out at a time that didn't affect my wife and kids!)
Sometime in my mid-late 40's I finally figured out that I wasn't going to be the next Mr. Universe (same realization I had in my 20's that I wasn't going to be the next Jack Nicholas) and that kind of deflated my balloon, so to speak.
Nowadays, I can find excuses that aren't even logical to get out of working out. (You should never work out during a solar eclipse, right?) I do enjoy walking (when my feet will allow it), but I ALSO like to eat. I'm in my mid 50's and I still work (If you can call sitting on your butt at a desk all day work), but I really hope I can find that "fire" again to eat right, exercise right and do what I can do to stay healthy.
@globaljaybird Congrats on losing the weight! I wish I could drop 25 or so myself. Would you like to share your secrets?
I thought I had a good idea, but after thinking it through it was too radical.
I was going to eat less and exercise more.....
Good article - thanks for posting it. It says Mangino has been the only above .500 coach at Kansas in the past 61 years ????? I haven't researched it, but IS THAT TRUE?
@kubuckets Maybe he should switch to linebacker.....
I was reading some of the critique of our new uni's on www.sportsgrid.com - the world outside of Lawrence, Ks is having some fun with this.
"This is what happens when your football program has been irrelevant for years and has no tradition."
"Instead of having the traditional “KU” monogram on the helmet, the school opted to stamp a big-ass JayHawk on one side of their new lids and the player’s number on the other. It’s the uniform equivalent of a mullet."
"That is hilarious! Looks like we should expect to see the Jayhawk's games played on the Cartoon Network, rather than the Big 12"
I'm glad we can provide the world a laugh! I just hope we don't do it on the field.
@drgnslayr Lol - you're right. I was thinking pro sports at the time (until the OAD rant), but I'm more than happy to have KU considered a dynasty. RCJH
Another thought that just ran through my warped mind - regarding RCJH. I'll bet a large portion of sports fans throughout the country could tell you off the top of their head, or at least figure out what RCJH stands for. Can you think of another college sports team that has a widely recognized acronym such as ours? Please don't say EMAW.
@DoubleDD said:> "Those Royals teams weren't put together with FA's and trades, no sir they where drafted, paid their due's homegrown players. Those teams you could sink your teeth into, fall in love with."
Are there any true dynasties in sports any more? The teams that I always thought of as dynasties were built just like you described above. In every sport.
Just another reason I hate the OAD situation. No true sense of team or community with these boys that are just passing through.
@JayHawkFanToo My tendency is to hate all things new or different until I get used to them, but I actually kinda like the whole "crimson" thing (not RED!). As long as they're not the pu- whoops - powderpuff blue ones that I've seen a couple of times. Those would only be acceptable if they have high-heeled cleats and tutus.
@JayhawkRock78 I'm 100% convinced the the " Powercat " logo is the reason for K-States success the past 15 or so years. (Surely it had nothing to do with Snyder)
I've often said if they had gotten rid of the stupid purple/gray uniforms and switched to black that they would have won a National Championship or two.
I wanted to hate Roy Williams so badly after he left here (and I think I actually did for a little while) but - DADGUMMIT - I find myself still liking the guy. No matter that he left, he still did way more good than harm for Kansas basketball.
@joeloveshawks THIS is the year!!
Disclaimer - you probably shouldn't count my vote because THIS has been the year every year since 1968 or so.
@Lulufulu85 Not to be a downer, my fellow Jayhawk brother, but Bourbon Street COULD be the last thing you do before you die.
It can be a dangerous place......so if you go, keep your eyes open, your billfold stashed and be careful!
@bskeet hey - what's with all the "B" towns? Are you secretly a fan of Butler, Bradley and Bucknell? just kidding
@MoonwalkMafia Good post! I wish you had not revealed the whole Buckeye thing (HATE 'em! kinda lol....) but I agree. I could never understand how you root for one team in basketball and another in football. Or baseball, or hockey, or ..... That's just crazy to me.
Maybe we're too one dimensional. I prefer to call it sane.
@RedRooster "KU Football News / Other Sports"
If you don't like it, don't read it
LOL !!
@Crimsonorblue22 No, not at all. I always look forward to the start of football season. I LOVE football. I'm really stoked about the Chiefs game tonight and I'm looking forward to the start of Jayhawk football too.
Having said that, I've drunk (drank? drinked? Sorry - not a wordsmith) a hell of a lot of koolaid over the past 50 years and I'm very skeptical. I desperately want us to succeed, but I just don't have a lot of faith in Charlie. Sorry.
To be fair to Weis, it's not just him. It's us too, the fans. I know it seems stupid to stick around when you're behind 45-3 at halftime, but it's very demoralizing to the players when they look up and see 27 people in the stands.
We all play a part. The University, the coaches, the players, the fans and the community. Have you ever been to Pittsburgh, Ks on game day? These people SUPPORT their team. There are red & gold flags and gorillas everywhere!! I'd sure like to see that kind of support in Lawrence.
30 days until the first football game. How enthused are you?
1) I CAN'T WAIT!!! I'll lose sleep every night between now and September 6
2) Pretty Stoked. I think Charlie's got his act together now and we should definitely be bowl bound.
3) I think we could win a few games. It should be fun to watch some of the new guys.
4) Not that wound up about it. I've been a Jayhawk fan for a long time and I have a pretty good idea what to expect.
5) Oh Dear God, can we please just skip it and get to BASKETBALL? Someone wake me on November 4th.
@Crimsonorblue22 I was proud of the (very short) time he spent at KU, but honestly I don't care if he plays for San Antonio, Milwaukee, Cleveland or the Looney Tunes team from Space Jam.
I hope he does well, stays healthy and gets on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine or whatever - I just don't care about the NBA. I'm proud of all the Jayhawks (past and present) in the NBA and I might stop and watch 3 minutes of a game if I see a Jayhawk playing - otherwise it's Naked and Afraid or Buying Alaska.
The upside of not being an NBA fan:
I haven't lost one second of sleep about Andrew Wiggins since March 23.
@wissoxfan83 No supper for you tonight dear.
I like baseball and golf equally. They both make excellent background for a Saturday or Sunday afternoon nap.
@DoubleDD I was Adidas when Adidas wasn't cool.
(Partly because Nike shoes generally are too narrow for my fat feet)
@drgnslayr We're not really that nice - we just don't want Santa mad at us.
@approxinfinity That's awesome! That will help me (and others) resist the urge to be anonymously rude. (Even more anonymous than we already are - lol)
Remember what mama always said - " Get a haircut AND keep out of my medicine cabinet - - - wait - - - If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all"
Thanks!
@approxinfinity I wanted to "down arrow" this just out of orneriness (is that a word?), but I don't want to be the black sheep of the site. Lol.
Besides, I really don't want Santa mad at me......
@HighEliteMajor Every bracket I've filled out since probably 1975 has had KU winning the National Championship. The only year I really didn't think it would happen was 1988. I am embarrassed when I see teams like UCLA and Kentucky (teams that I feel are mediocre and/or disreputable) with more NCAA Championships than us. There are others on that list as well.
Now, if we were WSU or KSU, teams along those lines and we were hoping/wishing/praying for a NC every year - that would just be stupid. I agree that a NC should be our goal every year. But I don't think the Conference Championship is anything to be scoffed at.
Wear your T-Shirt proudly bro!!
As a footnote - is it just me, or does Self REALLY switch gears in the post-season? A team that plays, for the most part, flawlessly during the season (most years) and wins 30 or so games should not just vaporize in the tournament as many of our teams have. I don't mean to stir the pot, but we do not have a legitimate chance of winning a NC on a regular basis if we play so carelessly in late March.
@bskeet Lol - no worries! I saw that you had edited it and I'm ok with that. On the "old" site - the one before the original Kubuckets, there was so much pettiness and nastiness that I would not have wanted anyone to be able to edit anything other than their own stuff, but in the past 10 months or so, everyone has been extremely civil and decent and I have no problems with it.
One comment I will make is that I personally am not a huge fan of the "down" arrow feature. If someone doesn't like something they will usually let us know about it - the "down" arrow just kind rubs me the wrong way. I'm sure it's a personal hangup of mine, but now ya know!
@VailHawk Hmmmmm - I WAS just in New Orleans last week.......
