It's early and I haven't really read anything else posted on this thread. I'm just wondering how this article got here. I replied to @HighEliteMajor yesterday with the comment that is now the "headline" here. ?? Is it black magic? Voodoo? I'm so confused.
@HighEliteMajor A few years ago, I echoed your sentiments. The 1988 season showed me that you could lose a lot of regular season games and STILL win a NC. (I'm sure it had nothing to do with Danny Manning. Or Larry Brown for that matter). So after that season, I was not satisfied with anything less than a NC. We all know how that worked out for me. Like you, I feel that we are one of the best (OK, THE best) programs in college basketball and deserve ( !! ) to have more NC's. I'm frustrated every year since 1988, save for 2008. Every 20 years ain't gonna cut it for me.
After the first 4 or 5 Conference Championships that started our current streak, I'm thinking " big, fat hairy deal, I want the BIG ONE!! " But, the more CC's we win, the more I think " Dang - this is actually pretty incredible. Who does this? Nobody. Except US! " We've got a great chance to surpass the 13 straight by UCLA back in the 60's and 70's and I'd really love for us to do that. Honestly, after that - I wouldn't care so much. But I want the record.
@HighEliteMajor I used to have a t-shirt that says " I want to be Emperor of the Universe ". One day it dawned on me to trade it in for one that says " I want to be a good husband and father ".
Rarely is the National Championship won by the best team in the country in a given year. Considering luck (good & bad) and injuries, matchups, etc., the NC is the icing on what is already a pretty good cake.
My point being - be a good husband and father and maybe someday you will be Emperor of the Universe. First things first.
If you think the Big 12 title means nothing, ask the other 9 (or a few years ago, 11) teams if they'd like to win one.
@bskeet Maybe people have different ideas of what a leader is. To me, he IS a leader when he's on the court. He plays hard, plays smart, puts up points - I'm confident when he's in the game.
I think some people mistake being loud or outspoken as exhibiting leadership. Sometimes that's true, but you can lead by example as well as by expression.
@drgnslayr Dribble it.

He met them before I did.

I don't know, but I hope it's long enough to prepare them for a season that won't deliver 10 losses.
I know this is primarily a basketball site, but hey, there's a space for football news so why not?
I've seen three different sports publications making their pre-season football picks and so far, every one has Kansas dead last in the conference (surprise!). Two of them have us predicted for 0-8 in the conference and one didn't go as far as to guess on the wins/losses.
Are we really still that bad? I'd sure like to get back to where we're at least bowl game eligible - is that a pipe dream?
Just interested to hear everyone's ideas....
@Crimsonorblue22 I'm with you on watching only teams with Jayhawks on the roster - and honestly, I rarely watch more than a couple of minutes then. I just don't like the pro game.
It makes no difference to me WHERE Wiggins winds up - I'll watch two or three minutes of those games and then move on to Survivorman or something.
@VailHawk Love me some Brian Regan!! I'm always impressed (and refreshed) by someone who can make me laugh my buttocks off without being a potty mouth. It takes some smarts to be funny without being foul.
Take Luck!!
@drgnslayr I don't know as I'd make too much of his comment. I'd say it's just because Kyrie was a Dookie. If they had interviewed Self instead of Coach K, Self would have promoted Wiggins.
As far as 10 years down the road.....that's a tough call. A lot of how well each of them do depends on their teams/teammates. None of them are LeBron or MJ.
@drgnslayr Looks like you have the procedure figured out. I can't wait to hear the comments on the article......lol
@VailHawk Mid 50's geezer. I was in on the early phases of home computers, but good Lord, the technology advanced so quickly. I got over the initial shock and awe and now I just use computers to check the weather, mapquest and KUBUCKETS.
I'm not sure where the avatar came from - I think I just googled it one day a couple of years ago and it was one of the many that came up!
@bskeet " I can live with starting over, but I hate losing all the history. "
OK - You're not from Vegas. @approxinfinity - if you ARE from Vegas, blow this SOB up and build something shiny with big-boobed hostess'. (sorry - i was in Vegas in my head).
If you're not from Vegas, I'd say let's slap a coat of paint on it and keep rollin. You've done enough work already.
Go on vacation. Maybe to Vegas......
@approxinfinity I vote for keeping it the way it is. You have done more than enough work already and the site does everything I need it to do as it is now.
Besides, I'm an old fart and we hate change. Can someone please bring back the rotary dial phones?
I think this kind of thing works to our advantage. When the other Big 12 teams get it in their heads and spend so much time worrying about KU that they lose sight of what works best for their them, it's just one more distraction that keeps them from derailing us.
I think Bill Self does as good a job as anyone of forgetting about the other teams and concentrating on what we do best - UNTIL the NCAA tournament.
In my opinion, during March he worries too much about the other teams and not enough about his own.
@jaybate 1.0 I can live with that. At least I'll be famous for SOMETHING!
@jaybate 1.0 CAMOUFLAGE!!
I thought you guys were talking about lingerie this whole time.
I thought THAT might be entertaining, regardless of footwear!!
@rocketdog After much intense study, I have decided that you and @DoubleDD need to have your avatars switched.
@dylans I think it's so cute when anyone besides KU thinks they're going to win the title.
Bwa-hahahahahahaha...............
@DoubleDD You did the impossible, my friend.
Now I can actually say that I like rap.
LOVE this rap !!
Rock Chalk Jayhawk - Red and Blue, KU!
Wonder what it would have been like if they had been teammates at KANSAS ?

@drgnslayr Or swat a ball into the stands.....
@drgnslayr lol - my uncle used to own a clothing store and he kept me humiliated on a regular basis. Well, I thought it was cool then, but I'm kind of humiliated now. I remember one outfit with clarity:
Long sleeved lavender shirt with puffy sleeves. (Yes, it was a Men's clothing store!)
Vertical striped bell bottom pants - carolina blue and white stripes.
Blue suede ( thanks Elvis ) platform shoes.
I was rocking the middle school fashion scene for sure.
If you have 3:29 out of your busy schedule, like me (eye-roll), this might give you "goosies".

@Crimsonorblue22 Well, I don't feel like I'm mean spirited or anything, but my goodness, he wasn't even a very good college player - and he's going pro? Is there a place for him there? I just thought it seemed odd.
@nuleafjhawk Actually, I'm going to start a completely new league - they can still call it the NBA.
N aked
B arefoot
A thletes
Hopefully they'll play a lot of zone...
I'm going to eliminate all the politics and start a barefoot league.
@DoubleDD Thank you so much! I listened to the game on the radio but have never seen any video.
I'm ready to roll now - tip it up!
@wissoxfan83 Is that the same Topeka YMCA team that Bill self said we couldn't have beaten last season? (or was it the season before?)
@KansasComet Without Google (Sheeeeeesh) - I've got to agree with you. I'm old enough, I remember listening to the game on radio (there was a TV blackout for some reason- figures) and I thought Max was going to have a heart attack calling that game. I believe the final was 150 - 95. As it should be.
" How Will the Refs Call the Game this Season? "
Poorly.
Every time we lose.
@Kip_McSmithers I wish they would have shipped Solich to Lawrence. I'm pretty sure we wouldn't have fired him after winning 9 or 10 games.
Unless he called a player a mean name......
@jaybate 1.0 Add me to the list of folk that are questioning Marshall. I've said it before, as have you - let him get into a big time conference and duke (not Duke) it out with the big boys for a few years (5-10). THEN, and only then, if his winning percentage is above .800 or so - OK, he may be a good coach. But right now, he's had the element of surprise on his side and a marshmallow soft conference benefiting his W column.
@DoubleDD I'm glad you couldn't - while I generally hate the state of Ohio (at least Ohio State), I do love this song! Thanks!
@JayHawkFanToo An acquaintance of mine recently moved back to Ohio as well. Here's what he reported back to me:
I went back to Ohio
But my pretty countryside
Had been paved down the middle
By a government that had no pride
The farms of Ohio
Had been replaced by shopping malls
And Muzak filled the air
From Seneca to Cuyahoga falls
Said, a, o, oh way to go Ohio
@icthawkfan316 I thought what @JayHawkFanToo was referring to was that he " told ya " about the suit. I think he (or someone) mentioned that in another thread.
@truehawk93 I know what you mean. This is a bad analogy, but I feel kind of like that every time Las Vegas blows up a casino. There's no history in Las Vegas. The oldest thing in Las Vegas is Wayne Newton. And a few prostitutes.......

@Crimsonorblue22 Not at all - I meant that in the pros, usually the worst teams get the best picks and Kansas is always on top!!
@drgnslayr Take Coach Self with you - he LOVES the hi-lo.
@Crimsonorblue22 It's a good thing college basketball doesn't draft - Kansas would always get crummy picks.....
@Crimsonorblue22 Knowing jaybate (well, you know) I get the impression that was a global "dummy", directed at about anyone in the same position. Or at least a big brother "jab in the ribs" type of "dummy". I'm sure he meant no ill will.
And I agree a billion percent that Joel was either given very poor advice or made a very poor decision to go pro. I didn't like Wiggins going pro either, but at least he was familiar with the game. Truly, Joel has to learn HOW to play basketball. He is physically gifted, but needs much more time to learn the nuances of the game.
