@JayHawkFanToo Then it gets sour?
@DoubleDD You're right. We do think you're crazy. lol

You could highlight " develop ", " potential " and " we think " and have a conversation on any or all of them.
@drgnslayr " Sometimes us old timers need to be pushed along with progress! "
And, as I believe @jayhawkbychoice said some time back, " Older is usually better ".
@RockChalkinTexas lol - who doesn't like a good trombone serenade ?
I very recently hit the road to see my dad in Texas and discovered after 1,427 total miles, a lot of weird stuff crosses your mind.
** * ** Shouldn't someone who is conscientious enough to want to save the world by driving a Toyota Prius Hybrid be conscientious enough to use their turn signals? Apparently not.
** * OK - We've talked periodically about "KUBuckets" T-Shirts, so I got this really stupid, sophomoric, "Animal House" idea that we should all run out and get our avatars or user names tattooed on us!! LOL. I giggled for an hour driving down the road. Then it dawned on me - HOLY SMOKES! - the more I thought about it, the more I liked it. I'm seriously going to do it. Get my avatar with 'leaf** underneath it. It's gonna happen.
** * **How is it that the original Genesis ( you know, Phil Collins on drums and Peter Gabriel lead singer ) isn't widely recognized as one of the greatest bands of all time?
** * **Whoever printed and posted the speed limit signs in Texas wasted a LOT of time.
** * **Has anyone ever seen Elvis and Lady Gaga together? Hmmmmmmmm......
** * This one needs some serious contemplation - is there really anything in the world cooler than a cow? Think about it - you can't phase a cow. You can honk at em, you can yell "MOOOO**" at em, you can clang cymbals in their faces - nothin. They barely even blink. Like they just don't care. And think about the products we get from them - how cool would bikers look going down the road on their Harleys wearing wool? Ever dunk a cookie in Diet Coke? Cows should all be issued Blues Brothers style sunglasses and just stand out in the field and look cool. They really should be the Official Animal of the United States of America. Or maybe they're just deaf.....?
** * **Smart phones are only as smart as their owners.
** * **I've never owned a convertible, but I've often wondered why people roll up the windows and lock the doors when they go into the mall. Really?
@globaljaybird lol - I'm glad you thoroughly enjoyed the game! I opted to watch " The Voice " (which I also thoroughly enjoyed) then flipped channels for a few minutes. When I saw the game, KC was behind 7-3 in the 7th, I believe. I said out loud, to myself, " stupid Royals " and decided to go to bed early......
@JayhawkRock78 They must be a BLAST during basketball season!

It all hurt to learn each step of the way, because I kept having to surrender thinking I understood things, decide I did not, and then learn some more.
That, my friend, is part of life that we all need to " get ".
@wissoxfan83 I have an offensive mind too, and I could save KU a lot of money. Shoot, I'd work for a mil per year. Until we won the National Championship.
@justanotherfan KSU also has close to 50 kids from the state of Kansas on their roster and if they want to play close to home it's " I MAY not win a NC or Conference Championship, but I'll get to play in front of a full house every home game and it's better than my other in-state alternative ".
@JayHawkFanToo " KSU has a superior program and they get first dibs "
That looks pretty weird to an old geezer like me. It's true, just looks weird. I remember when you could get KSU season tickets with a $5.00 purchase of gas any where in town.
@jaybate-1.0 History was always one of my favorite subjects in school.. Of course, there wasn't as much of it to learn back then.
@Crimsonorblue22 Best hit he's had all season.......
@globaljaybird WWA !
@globaljaybird I'm so sorry to hear about your son's bad news. (and of course, your friend and his mother) Just about daily you hear of things happening and it makes you wonder what the hell is wrong with people. Have we always been like this and just didn't know it (before the media / internet / cell phones, etc ), or is our whole world just falling apart?
I know there are still many good, decent people out there but it just makes me sick. Like you though, I refuse to let the bad guys win. I'm not changing one damn thing about the way I live, at least not out of fear.
There's been a lot of talk about the Ten Commandments in the media over the past few years. (Not the movie! lol) People even argue over that, but if they would just pay attention to the first two, the rest of them would happen automatically.
Thanks a lot guys.
It's 5:55 am and I'm reading this thinking " How in the hell did I go to bed in September of 2014 and wake up in November of 2013? "
@globaljaybird Great story! My only comment is, despite what they did, I'm willing to bet that they have better neighbors than you do.....
@Kip_McSmithers Has there ever, in the history of college sports, been an away game where one or more of the opponent's fans has not had this sign?
You're not in Kansas anymore!
@Crimsonorblue22 I live about 3 hours away too - but I'd go ANYTIME !! lol
"KUsports.com is dead to me"
Me
@bskeet - thanks for the assist. What am I doing wrong? I clicked on the "link" icon and the address turned blue, but when I clicked on it, it did nothing. Since I'm a computer guru ;), I'm sure I've got all the technical terms down, but I can't make it do what I want! Just like my wife.
@jayhawkbychoice I've told this story before, maybe on the "other" site, so I'll give you the Reader's Digest version:
Several years ago, I had a spare ticket to the KU vs Ohio St game in AFH. Both teams were ranked high (in the top 10 I believe) I had an "acquaintance" (not really a friend) who was a big Buckeye fan so I took him. We go there early and spent a lot of time taking it all in..... by tipoff (after all the alma mater's and rock chalk chants and videos and 16,300 people screaming) he looked kind of pale and I asked what was wrong.
He said something to the effect of " Man, I have goosebumps. I didn't know what to expect, but Ohio St doesn't have anything like this! "
@wissoxfan83 lol - I have not yet begun to rant when it comes to cell phones!
I honestly don't do Facebook. I don't know how. I don't have an account.
But IF I did, I would put you on my list right now. Thank you very much for offering, I truly do appreciate it.

This is what happens when a Texas fan, definitely not a sports writer, tries to write a scouting report on Kansas.
@JayHawkFanToo (snicker..) I'm a bit of a rebel.....
@JayHawkFanToo OMG - you are no longer my BFF. Lol.
@JayhawkRock78 I'd kinda like to own the Ark of the Covenant.
And have World peace. (not the dude)
Oh - a signed copy of the White Album would be nice too.
@DoubleDD I think Kerry Miller must sell Girl Scout cookies for a living and write about basketball in his spare time. He had WAAAAY too much time on his hands when he came up with that article.
Besides, it's impossible for us to go " defeated " when we play K-State 2 or 3 times per year.
@jayhawkbychoice I figure it's either that or Mizzou's Ungodly Antlers.
I know there are a few folks here who don't appreciate talk about anything other than KU Basketball. Not music, not football, not gardening, not cars. Nothin.
Sorry.
KUBUCKETS is my Facebook. It'd be great if you expand your horizons just a bit and join us in some of these NBA (Non Basketball Associated) threads, but if you really don't like the subject that is being discussed click "Mark as Read". That will solve your problems.
I don't DO Facebook. I don't DO any other social media sites. Heck, I don't even own a cell phone. My personal opinion is that technology (ie; too much of it) is ruining our society. We're going to continue to get stupider and stupider (SEE? It's happening already!) A hundred years from now, we will have lost the ability to speak out loud. If your cell phone goes dead and you have an emergency, you're basically just screwed. And God have mercy on the poor child who is born with no thumbs......
Maybe we can carry the big posters like the football teams have, with the pictures on them - you know - like George Clooney, Big Bird, a Double Whopper with no cheese and three quarters (two heads, one tails). It should mean something to someone somewhere.
@bskeet how long are you going to torture us with the MUA thing?
@approxinfinity & @JayHawkFanToo - I listened to the JB version this morning and liked it very much! Thanks! It's funny, to me, that a song like that can be sung by many people/groups and sound wonderful, but there are others that I don't want to hear anything but the original.
I watch a lot of singing shows (sorry....) The Voice, American Idol, X-Factor - the judges are always encouraging the contestants to make the songs "their own". That's OK with some songs, but almost blasphemy with others. If it's one of the "iconic" groups - The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd - those kinds of groups - LEAVE THE SONG ALONE!!! Don't mess with perfection. lol I'm sure there are others, but right now the only "icon" song that I can think of that I really like done by someone else is Joe Cocker's version of "With a Little Help From My Friends". Oh, and " She came in through the bathroom window". And...

Hopefully they weren't tears of joy. lol
@jaybate-1.0 Is it safe to say that you think outside the box?
" Can someone please tell me what the hell direction the wind is actually blowing ? "
Jack Cantele
@globaljaybird That "Anon" dude comes up with some really good ones!
@DoubleDD " I know this will sound crazy, but I think this upcoming version of KU basketball will be better than last years version that included once in a life time type players like Embiid and Wiggs. "
That doesn't sound crazy at all - mainly because it sounds like what I, and others said all last year. I don't care who your OAD's are - almost without exception they are not going to best a team that is made of experienced upperclassmen.
@Crimsonorblue22 I wondered about some of them as well. Hopefully, it's just that they have an actual life. Until Basketball season starts..........
@globaljaybird Bruce's wife asked him if her new jeans made her butt look big.
He said " No, it's the other way around ".
@JayHawkFanToo Those groups you listed are why I said at the beginning of my post that picking "favorites" is an impossible task. Every one of them have great, great songs that deserve to be in a Top 100 (or whatever number you choose) list. I thought all night about groups and songs that should have been on that list !!!
I just now thought about Frank Zappa. Talk about an under-appreciated musician. Especially by the media. Oh my goodness. The guy was literally a musical genius. He was light years ahead of most other musicians (IMO). The only thing is, the songs that he made that were tame enough for radio, weren't that popular. Then I went and left " Hotel California " off the list. Really?? Lol - " IMPOSSIBLE TASK *
@jayhawkbychoice said:
"Plus most of time, the "old way" is the better way."
You have just launched yourself to the very top tier of my favorite posters
@DoubleDD Wait.
I might have to join Bruce on the podium for that one.......
Man, my head is spinning trying to put together any kind of a list of my favorite songs. It's impossible - there's too many. Here's a list of some; if I made a new list tomorrow, it would probably be completely different, but just as heartfelt. Here we go:
Oh - Disclaimer - I didn't list any Beatles songs because they are all my favorite. There was no music before the Beatles, just organized noise. In my humble, but right opinion. lol OK - now here we go: In no particular order:
1) Blue Man Group - The Current
2) Van Morrison - Moon Dance
3) Fountains of Wayne - Hackensack
4) Bill Withers - Ain't No Sunshine
5) Led Zeppelin - Stairway To Heaven (Duh)
6) Pink FLoyd - The Wall (the album. Yep - the whole thing)
7) Toby Keith - I Love This Bar
8 ) Toby Keith - As Good As I Once Was
9) The Outlaws - Green Grass and High Tides ( MAYBE the greatest
Southern Rock song of all time..... )
10) Santana - Black Magic Woman ( and about anything else they ever wrote)
11) The Mamas and The Papas - California Dreamin
12) Dr Hook & The Medicine Show - The Cover of The Rolling Stone
13) David Crosby - Cowboy Movie
14) David Gilmour - Shine On You Crazy Diamond
15) Neil Young - Down By The River
16) Neil Young - Old Man
17) Kansas - Dust in The Wind
18 ) Black Sabbath - Planet Caravan (not as popular as Iron Man or Paranoid, but pretty cool...)
19) Edgar Winter - Frankenstein
20) Rufus Wainwright - Hallelujah
21) Louis Armstrong - What a Wonderful World
22) Chicago - 25 or 6 to 4
23) Steeley Dan - FM (No Static At All)
24) The Cowsills (YES, The Cowsills!!)- Hair
25) Gladys Knight & The Pips - Midnight Train to Georgia
26) Mark Hodgson - Catch Me When I Fall
OH! Pretty much anything by " Buckethead *. That's not a typo.
Then - what I listen to most of the time now - Worship music. Pretty much anything by Mercy Me, Third Day and Casting Crowns. And Jeremy Camp. And Big Daddy Weave. And Jesus Culture. And the Sidewalk Prohpets. And Building 429. And - well, you get the idea.
@JayhawkRock78 I would love to oblige. I'm running seriously short on time this morning and the day is packed, but maybe this evening I'll be happy to start the list.....
@Crimsonorblue22 I don't like them either, but I have to say that " Brooke Sassin " is a pretty cool name. Since I am the master of originality (or not) I'm going to go out on a limb and assume her nickname is " Assassin " . ???
Does anyone know if Charlie is renting or buying?
@kubuckets There's no mention of it in this article, but this morning's paper lists KU as a 5.5 point favorite - yes, favorite, over Central Michigan. How bad do you have to be to be a 5.5 point underdog to us?
Are they a horseshoeing school? Do they specialize in wine and cheesemaking? Is it an all girl school?
Sorry to be so sour this early in the day, but I was shocked to see that in the paper today.
