I can honestly say that I'm NOT disappointed. As stupid as it sounds, i'm still not a fan of having too many "superstars" on one team.

What I'd REALLY like to see us land is a lightning quick, 5'2" white guy (no racism remarks please) who has 12 assists and no turnovers per game and shoots about 95% at the free throw line.

That way the NBA won't be looking at him and we'll have him for 4 years.

(I edited this, as before I wrote that I was disappointed. I'm Not!! - One of those days)

@HighEliteMajor I was more along the lines of Kate Upton, but yeah, whole different perspective!

Turner News Headlines • Apr 30, 2014 04:17 PM

@drgnslayr I used to drink.

A LOT. Mostly beer. But unlike D. Sterling, I did not discriminate. If it had alcohol in it, I would drink it.

Until I saw the video tape of my brother-in-law's 30th birthday party. (26 years ago this November).

God's truth - I haven't had a drink of any kind since then. If alcohol made me that stupid, arrogant and obnoxious I didn't want any part of it.

Oh, I don't miss waking up underneath toilet stools either.

AA should seriously videotape folks who are drunk and want to quit.

@Crimsonorblue22 I like the way you think!

@icthawkfan316
" Was it officially licensed chocolate and therefore the university got a cut of what your wife spent?"

You know, I was laughing at the whole situation until you brought this to my attention..... Now I'm actually kind of stewing about it. Could you please retract that statement and erase it from my memory?

In all seriousness, I try not to hate anybody or anything, but dang it - I really do have a problem with MU.

Mixed emotions on Anderson as MU Coach • Apr 29, 2014 09:10 PM

@icthawkfan316 Sooooooooo - you aren't really a fan of Mizzou?

OH! Stupid story (you're forewarned). My wife was off work a few days ago, so she goes to Abilene, Ks to do some antique shopping. (yippee) So happens Abilene has a Russell Stover's chocolate factory there AND they have a retail store where they sell all things chocolate, many are deeply discounted prices - seconds/rejects and so forth.

Anyhoo - she comes home toting BAGS of chocolate and explains to me (while I'm reading the first thing I grabbed so I didn't really have to pay attention) what everything is and what a great price she got.

So - she hides a bunch of the stuff where I can't find it (cuz I DO have a bad sweet tooth), but then dumps a couple of bags of goodies in the drawer where we stash that kind of stuff. Later that evening I reach in there and grab out a little packet of something (she told me they were "turtles", chocolate/caramel/nut delights!) and tore it open and munched down the treat.

Much to my horror - I finally looked at the wrapper that the candy came in - a frickin black and gold wrapper with a Missouri tiger logo slapped across the front of it. We had DOZENS of the damn things. I took them all out of the wrappers and threw them in zip-lock baggies.

I gave her THAT look and all she could say is " You don't eat the stupid wrapper - get over it". Could this be grounds for divorce?

@truehawk93 I LOVE the color Red. My first car (yes, my first true love) was a 1970 Mustang Fastback - Candy Apple Red. I'm tearing up right now just thinking about it. You have offended me. If I knew who you were, I'd sue you for everything you had. lol.

@truehawk93 I'm not a Calipari fan either, but as far as I'm concerned you can delete The Harrison twins from that following quote and insert any OAD in any college system.

*The Harrison twins are a cautionary tale of overinflated expectations, an inefficient pro development system and the NBA’s efficiently ruthless talent market.

@drgnslayr I don't follow pro ball, but who hasn't been keeping up with this story? I'm really interested to see how this pans out. Sometimes it would be nice if people got what they deserved. By the same token, I thank God that we DON'T always get what we deserve!

Love the "Sterling Silver" play, by the way!!

" Following & Followers " Question • Apr 29, 2014 11:38 AM

@RockChalkinTexas Thank you very much! I had no clue. (Obviously)

@truehawk93 I agree with every word you say. Except- if he doesn't come here, he's probably communist. Or at least a heinous super-villain.

But, a really intelligent, nice, heinous super-villain.

One two many beers • Apr 28, 2014 03:59 PM

@ralster Man, I loved Jacque Vaughn ! He was a very solid player for us and an all around good guy. Part of me would love to see him on the sidelines for us some day, but the part of me that sees his record as an NBA coach thinks maybe not.

I don't follow pro ball, so maybe it's just the team that he has to work with right now. I do know that Jacque is a very smart man. He was a two time Academic All-American at Kansas and the Academic All-American of the Year in 1997.

However, I don't see him coaching for the Clippers in the near future......

Seven Point Fix: Free Your Mind • Apr 28, 2014 03:20 PM

@drgnslayr oh - I'm sorry. Actually, I got up at 4:00 am this morning and have been crazy busy at work (for a change). I really need to read more thoroughly before I comment.

Seven Point Fix: Free Your Mind • Apr 28, 2014 02:10 PM

@drgnslayr One thing that struck me about this team is that they weren't very smart. I don't know about academically smart, but they weren't very basketball smart. They were athletic - gifted, in fact. But they seemed to vanish a lot on defense and when they weren't running that bizarre shuffle on offense, they acted like they didn't know where they were or what they were doing half the time. Much of that can be attributed to youth. I think Frankamp can help that situation greatly. Whether he's a point guard or not, I don't know, but when he's in the game you can practically see the wheels turning. He seems to have very good court vision and he doesn't throw the ball away.

Seven Point Fix: Free Your Mind • Apr 27, 2014 04:55 PM

@HighEliteMajor One strategic thing that I'd like to see from Coach Self - free season tickets for all KUBuckets regulars.

One two many beers • Apr 27, 2014 12:28 PM

@ralster Most of my replies to any post are satire or just straight BS, but this is the truth - if Thad Matta EVER becomes the coach of Kansas - I will have watched my last college basketball game.

Why It Is Vital We Land Myles Turner... • Apr 26, 2014 03:57 PM

@dylans I have this gut feeling that Jayhawk fans are going to be very pleasantly surprised with Frankamp next year.

Or that could be the Mexican food we had last night.......

One two many beers • Apr 26, 2014 03:28 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 To bring home an obscenely large paycheck for doing next to nothing!

One two many beers • Apr 26, 2014 03:16 PM

Five years ago (or so) I would have bet money that the University of Kansas would have been Bill Self's last coaching job. He didn't seem like an NBA guy to me and where do you go from Kansas? Who gives a crap about your alma mater (especially if it's OSU) - if it's not a great coaching job.

Now, I'm not so sure. Who wants to go through the hassle of the whole OAD ordeal year after year? If they actually do change it to two years, maybe that will change things. But as it is now, these coaches have to do an incredible amount of travelling, studying, butt kissing - you don't think every D-1 coach has brown lips - ask the OAD's parents, coaches, friends and relatives.

If I were a college coach today and the NBA was knocking on my door, I'd be looking through the peep-hole, pulling back the curtains and cracking the door open a little.

Why It Is Vital We Land Myles Turner... • Apr 25, 2014 09:13 PM

@truehawk93 I will learn to like him if/when he is KU's coach - not UK's.

That's not likely to happen soon.....

" Following & Followers " Question • Apr 25, 2014 07:24 PM

@approxinfinity (or anyone else that cares to answer) - I apologize for being ignorant, but what exactly does the "following" and "followers" categories do for you? Does it notify you when people that you're following post, or notify them when they're following you? I just don't quite get it. Well, I don't get it at all.

Thanks!

@Virgil_Caine Dang - you're right. By the looks of that photo they do look pretty large. Maybe he'd better invest in some of those hand-grip exercizers.........

@globaljaybird Wow! I would never laugh at that - that's way cool ! And to be able to dunk in his 40's is one heck of an accomplishment - then throw in the 5'10" thing - your pops must have been quite the athlete! Thanks for sharing.

Rounding out the class of 2014 • Apr 25, 2014 11:07 AM

@HighEliteMajor I haven't ever met Wiggins in person, and I'm not trying to sound weird, but does it seem like he must have tiny hands for someone his size?

I've never seen any player, on any team, lose the ball so often on drives to the basket. That was one thing that really bugged me this season.

Rounding out the class of 2014 • Apr 24, 2014 09:35 PM

@HighEliteMajor This is not an attack on Wiggins, just stating the fact that he didn't show up for that game. You can say it was because of Stanford, but I'm going to put some of the blame on Andrew.

He was 1-6 from the field. One assist. One steal.

He could have scored four points and still had a good game had he drove the ball and distributed to his teammates. He basically saw that he couldn't score at will and shut himself down.

All players have bad days. This was one of them.

Rounding out the class of 2014 • Apr 24, 2014 06:11 PM

@konkeyDong " My guess is that it's both from his shy and reserved personality, as well as his being used to having been the whole offense for his HS teams. But that, some ball fakes, and mastering the turnaround jumper would make him a master of scoring over the type of bigs he struggled with all last year, and that ultimately meant our demise early in the post season. "

I'm probably not reading that correctly, or reading into it or something, but my personal take on our early demise in the post season was - Tharpe being in the twilight zone, Wiggins not showing up for the Stanford game, Embiid out with injuries and Bill Self being a teensy bit stubborn.

@joeloveshawks No worries friend. I wonder - did you start your items with the # sign? I think that "blows up" the font. Something like that anyway.

@joeloveshawks I don't even need my glasses for this!!

@drgnslayr I always hear " If lovin you is wrong, I don't wanna be right " and I think of Roy Williams. Please don't tell anyone.

@JRyman THANK YOU

I really wanted that song floating around in my head the rest of the day.

A Nation of KU fans • Apr 23, 2014 02:37 PM

I was born in Phoenix, Az, but moved all over the country when I was very young. (we weren't in the service, my dad just liked to move !!) We settled in Salina, Ks and I honestly think the reason I became a KU fan was because the biggest D-bag I ever knew was also the biggest K-State fan I ever knew. This was in grade school.

We maintained a mutual hatred through high school and the more I saw and heard him, the more I loved KU. I moved to Houston right after I got married and lived there about 9 years. I shouldn't even say this (but I'm going to!) - one of the main reasons I moved back to Kansas is because I missed my KU sports so much. This was in 1987, so we didn't have the sports world at our fingertips like we do now. There was no internet, no smart phones and the only real sports coverage in the Houston Chronicle was Univ. of Houston, Rice and some of the Big 8 and Southwest Conference teams.

I'm pretty sure I was personally responsible for introducing KU to Houston, Tx ! About every article of clothing I owned back then was KU related. I don't even think some of those folks knew that Kansas was a state until I moved there. Really.

Anyway - I've loved KU as long as I can remember and always will. I've had several neices and nephews graduate from there, but ironically both my kids went to different colleges. Maybe they had enough crimson and blue crammed down their throats when they were young!!

@Kip_McSmithers My dad has lived in the Austin area for 30 years.

He's a little worried for Coach Strong's general health.

KU Season in Review • Apr 21, 2014 06:07 PM

@wissoxfan83 I think you did a great job. It was a LOT less cynical than the version that runs through my head.

Cozart is the Man. I guess. • Apr 18, 2014 02:59 PM

Here's a pretty apathetic article. What I got out of it is,

As long as KU is going to play football, they may as well have some guy designated as QB. I suppose. And this guy is probably going to screw things up less than anybody they've got on the squad right now so let's go ahead and call him our starting QB.

Rock Chalk Jayhawk. Whoopeee.

Good write up and forecast for the Big 12 • Apr 17, 2014 09:07 PM

@JayhawkRock78 I will passively " root " for any Big 12 team other than Iowa State. I can't get too wound up about West Virginia either.

As far as the traitors go - have NEVER rooted for Missouri, under any circumstances. Pretty much have nothing but contempt for Nebraska and Colorado too.

Just Say No To OADs At KU • Apr 15, 2014 11:13 AM

I think there's room for everyone.

We can have the solid four year guys that want to get an education and play a high level of Division I college basketball.

Then we can have a whole separate league of OAD's. They could all be on travelling teams sponsored by Barnum and Bailey.

I don't mean any of us posters, I mean ANYONE.

Watching the game at home it looked like there were about 14 people in the stands.

I was trying to stay upbeat, but if the spring game was any indicator, it could be a looooong football season again this year.
