** ONLY 268 DAYS UNTIL FOOTBALL SEASON !! **
@Lulufulu I agree with 100% of your sentiment - but I know for a fact that they've beaten us more than once. I was at the game in New Orleans in 198---1? 80 or 81, too lazy to look it up and too old to remember exactly. That was the day that Darnell Valentine missed roughly 87 uncontested layups and the same night that I single handedly tried to take on every Shocker fan that I saw on Bourbon Street.
I would have won too, if my brother in law hadn't held me back. Booze and anger make good fight partners.
Let's not play in the Sprint Center ever again.
Unless we win.
@approxinfinity Was it Fraschilla that kept saying that Vick would score 40 last night? Well, he could / should have scored 50 or 60 if he would TAKE THE BALL TO THE BASKET. He can do it - he has the athleticism to go around and/or over any player out there. He needs a dose of killer instinct. Hard to blame a loss on a guy that had 28 or whatever it was, but he was the only one out there with consistent open lanes to the basket and he just wouldn't take them.
"KU faces beter competition in their practices than alot ot teams in the Nation"
I'd be very surprised if Coach Self said that. Out loud.
@JayHawkFanToo I understand about the money.
GO whoever plays OU !!
@Fightsongwriter Your post ticks me off - because I can't "like" it a bazillion times!!
I don't really care about the Big 12 status in football, but I hope Oklahoma gets whipped like a rented mule. Can't stand the team in general and Baker MOUTH-field in particular.
@Crimsonorblue22 When he said that I thought " Talk about the pot calling the kettle black " - that's all DV does - celebrate running his own mouth. How about just announce the game and quit screaming like a 12 year old girl?
@jayballer54 Scrubs may have an entirely different meaning in Kentucky.
I'm very concerned. I can already see us taking our foot off the gas pedal. We won two consecutive games by 43 and now against Toledo we barely scrape by with a 38 point margin of victory. :(
@Texas-Hawk-10 Lightfoot is also Gordon's last name and he is not so much a bad-ass.
@wissox and some of us (me) take the low road. "Screw it (cleaned that up considerably...) If these Pussy-Willows (cleaned that up quite a bit too!) can't beat (name your weak mid-major team), then I'm not wasting my time watching them. Bill Self is an idiot and should be replaced by (name your least favorite coach - mine would be Bruce Weber). There's always football..................
@elpoyo Why do you refer to KU as "we"? You are obviously not a KU fan so at least have the kahonas to admit it.
WAIT - - - YOU ARE ZENGER?
Dang brother (or sister) - enjoy the ride! It's still November !!!!! lol
If I were a professional fisherman and I traveled the country fishing for a living and I was judged and paid by the number of fish I catch and the number of tournaments I win - and I had only caught fish (not won the tournament) 3 times out of 36, they would throw me out of the Bassmaster's Association and take my wife and kids and put them somewhere where they could be fed and taken care of properly.
Don't be a hero
@jayballer54 I think you're related to my wife. Neither of you gets my warped sense of humor. And just for the record, I was one of the few who wanted him to stay.
@Texas-Hawk-10 That's because, of on top of his salary, he had an "all you can eat buffet" clause in his contract and no local restaurateur would allow his hiring.
Not trying to be "that guy", but honestly, who in their right mind would want to play football at Kansas? Big fish in little pond syndrome? I just don't get it. Now if we ever get a real coach - maybe.
@mayjay When I was a troubled youth, I thought the whole idea was ridiculous. For the past 30 years though, my life has been changed (for the better). I try to read the Bible at least a little every day and besides learning and growing, I find it has the most fascinating stories (real ones, by the way). I don't want to start a religious war on a KU sports forum, but I certainly can't imagine life without Him or the Bible at this stage of the game.
@jaybate-1.0 Actually, Satan is no match for God. I've read the book.
God wins.
It's embarrassing to me that grown-ass people, presumably intelligent grown-ass people, are whining and crying about grammar and punctuation. This is a KU site, folks - not UK.
Seagulls - STOP IT NOW.
PS - Sorry about the grammar and punctuation mishaps.
@jayballer54 Same reason WWE is on TV. It's bizarre, stupid, irrelevant and a waste of time. But it entertains. And people like to watch trainwrecks. Not everyone gets to watch KU implode week after week, year after year, decade after decade (you get the idea) so when non-Big 12 fans hear about this team in the midwest that is so incredibly inept - they can tune into the reruns and verify it for themselves.
@cragarhawk Me too! I prefer when she just stands there and looks purdy.
How about shipping out the basketball players to help the football team? B-Ball team has much better athletes.......
@BShark He won't. Nor will ANY established, well respected coach. If we are ever to win more than one game a season, we'll have to luck into a coach like K-State did.
The Heisman Memorial Trophy (usually known colloquially as the Heisman Trophy or The Heisman), is awarded annually to the most outstanding player in college football in the United States whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity.
Not so much integrity. Guess he's out for the Heisman.
@justanotherfan I disagree about the handshake thing not being a big deal. Players actions reflect their "leadership" and if their coach is ok with a classless move like that, then we need new leadership. You can get away with BS like that if you're a top notch team with superior athletes, but when you're a no talent team like KU (sorry - it's the truth), you at least need to act like decent human beings.
@Lulufulu You must have misread Lulu - " Futility " is what they strive for. They are a long ways below that now.
Two solutions to KU football:
1) Let me coach. Things will change. We still won't win any games, but the fans would be entertained. Think "All-Star Wrestling".
2) Drop the program. I know, I know, I know. But I don't care.
Question - if Daum is the " poor man's Larry Bird ", why isn't he playing for ...................just about anyone besides SDSU?
" The loss of Preston could make or break this team. "
Here's what I know about Billy Preston. He had some SERIOUS hair and a few big songs in the 70's. That's pretty much it. As for the current Billy Preston - I'm going to wait and see how he looks if he ever does actually get on the court. I'm starting to feel now like I'd just as soon he disappear and let the current team find it's own groove. If he's going to be an on-again, off-again trouble maker or constant distraction - we are better off without him. We've done ok so far.
I prefer to call it Wugly. That's a W with ugly after it.....
Devonte is going to grow into his leadership position. It's a job he's not used to - but he's a quick learner. One month from now - he will be on fire.
Give me Dicky V over Jay Bilas ANYTIME. I damn near puked listening to him gloat about how Duke is "head and shoulders" above everyone else in the country and how he wants to personally lick the soles of their shoes. I might have made that last part up, but if they wanted him to - he would. By the way - Duke is no better than anyone else from what I've seen. They've got better refs and a good player who should be, if not in prison, at least not playing because of his crap attitude and subtle elbow smashes to the faces and ribs of competitors. Oh wait - he plays for Coach God K - never mind - he can do what he wants.
@jaybate-1.0 BUT - Peachy Izzo wasn't peachy enough to lure hometown prodigy Josh Jackson away from Sunflower Self!!
We get our share...

I've got an interview with Zenger this week about the job. I'll make 10 times what i'm making now, save the University several million and nobody will still give a crap if we win or not.
KU 150 - UK 95
We can always look forward to football.....
@Texas-Hawk-10 Why do you believe that to be true? What positive impact does a terrible football team have on an incredible basketball program?
I don't care about how much money we supposedly lose or what conference the basketball team winds up in. Drop. Football. Now.
@Texas-Hawk-10 Wait - I upvoted your post, but HOW does football generate more money? KU doesn't give away basketball tickets or concessions and the 16,300 people that show up for EVERY home game stay and spend money. Ninety percent of the 10,000 that show up for football leave at or waaaaaaaaaaaaay before halftime. I'm not a math scholar, but i don't get it.
@mayjay Yeah, I know. But i'm frustrated.
I'm 59 years old and very sporadically over the many years, KU football has provided me with some great joy, but I'm at the point now where, if it were up to me - I'd scrap the whole damn program. Save the $300 million for basketball, hurricane relief, grants, scholarships, free cotton candy for all Lawrence natives - anything but football. Give it up. It's an embarrassment to the University, to KU fans, to the State of Kansas and to the Universe. Please stop the madness now.
I'd be happy with ANOTHER Big 12 Championship and a Final Four run. The " Elite Eight " has never been much of a prize in my eyes. I might be happy with a Big 12 C and Elite Eight IF we at least lost to a respectable team.
@KUSTEVE OH YES I DO!! GO 'STROS!!!
We lived in Houston for about 9 years and loved the Astros! One of my favorite guys was the beer vendor - "Coldest foam in he 'Dome...". Great times. Rooting for them for old time's sakes. Go 'Stros!
Thanks @mayjay - I've been around, just super, super busy lately. I am Sooooooooo ready for basketball - i was on the road Sunday and listened to the game on the radio. I must have looked like a drunk monkey driving, because i was INTO the game! As bad as I hate to admit it, MU has some really good players this year - i was a teeeeeeeeensy bit concerned before the game. But dang - i think we're going to be a special team this year. I think the basketball team may be as good as the football team is bad. Sorry - i try to be optimistic, but they force me to be the opposite of that.
