@DoubleDD Don't fret - we can still get worse.
This is how I'm going to approach football this year - total points. So far we have 65 to our opponents 61. We win.
@JayhawkerRedLegs I was at a KC Chiefs game 8 or 9 years ago (in December and it was about a million degrees below zero) and bundled up in every piece of warm clothing that I own. The final layer was a very heavy KU coat and a KU stocking cap. As I was leaving after the game, some guy in front of me dropped a blanket and I picked it up and handed it back to him. It was a big, stupid, black & gold Mizzou blanket. He looked at me like I was from another planet - and thanked me very genuinely.
Then I thought "would I have picked it up if i had realized that it was a Mizzou blanket?" I hope so.
No one has to do much of anything - most of us poison ourselves every day with the garbage we eat.
I just can't wrap my head around the hatred in this country and world. People are people. I can't IMAGINE a rescuer saying "Oops - you're (insert race/religion/political party) Sorry - you have to stay and drown, I'm not going to help you. Are there people like that???? Shoot I would (probably) even rescue someone wearing a "Mizzou" t-shirt. The "probably" was just because I'm sarcastic. I would definitely do it.
"spend the night in OK somewhere, close to a casino"
I had to laugh at this !! There is no place in Oklahoma that ISN'T close to a casino !!
How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck COULD chuck wood?
@wissox Very cool - congrats to your family. So - are you comfortable with giving us a name to watch and root for?
@Crimsonorblue22 Not really. That is, if i want to stay in this town. (Which I don't necessarily - but the wife does....) The problem is that i really love my job and my customers. I feel like i do a very good job. I like everything about it - except the Horrible Boss. (They should make a movie).
Anyway - this has been good therapy today! I'll get over it.
@justanotherfan I worked for Texas Instruments for 9 years, quitting in 1987 to come back to Kansas.
I have been kicking my own ass for the past 30 years. They were a GREAT company to work for - you're welcome for the free endorsements, T.I. But they really were. The pay was very good, but more importantly, everyone that I ever spoke to in management seemed to go out of their way to treat me with respect. Not just because I always wore KU stuff either! Lol.
My current boss has no clue what the real world is all about. It's a family owned business, been in their family for around 70 years and he cannot relate to what real people have to go through on a daily basis. True story - one time I asked him for a (well deserved) raise - he handed me a brochure - Consumer Credit Counseling. He told me I made enough money, I just needed to manage it better. I told him that if I took that home to my wife, she would come here and beat the piss out of him. And she seriously would have.
@Crimsonorblue22 It frustrates me to no end. First of all, because I just think we should be kind to each other, no matter what position we hold. Secondly, are they really so stupid (YES) that they can't figure out that if they treat their employees well, the employees will respond resoundingly. Hell, most people don't care about the money - it's frosting, they care about being told they're doing a good job. Or they are appreciated. Stuff like that. Seems like there is an old book somewhere that addresses this - "Love your neighbor as yourself". Maybe I'll leave a copy on his desk.
I'd work for next to nothing if my boss was actually human. Nothing like working for an unappreciative d-bag who NEVER (no hyperbole) thanks or compliments any employee. Yes, I'm looking.....
I just got back from Lake Marble Falls, Tx. Really pretty place - good fishing, good food, got to hang out with my Dad for a few days. Good times! Now I'm back home and get to paint the house. After two days I'm ready to just leave it the way it is..... part green, part brown.
What could go wrong? Testosterone, booze, girls, guns. I see no problems at all.
@DanR It's a decent town to visit - as long as you're not at a sporting event. Some nice restaurants, the lake is right there, nice little zoo - I wouldn't want to live in Manhattan though. Traffic is pretty bad when school is in session - especially for a small town. And too many KSU fans.....
@mayjay Lol - for whatever reason, I can't see a lot of graphics on my computer at work. I'm at home now (don't spend a lot of time on the computer at home these days) - and Eureka!
What am I missing?
@Texas-Hawk-10 lol - well, i guess that's why the other QB coaches are gone then
@Texas-Hawk-10 From what I've seen from KU QB's the past few years, that may work in our favor.....
@justanotherfan I'd really kind of like a rematch with those pompous asses...
@KUSTEVE You must be my soul mate. I've given up any pretense of losing weight. I could eat tofu and water for two weeks and gain three pounds. Screw it all, bring on something that actually tastes good.
@wissox I've always had great contempt for TM - probably mostly because of Ohio State. If he had coached at the Oklahoma School of Horseshoeing - meh.
NOT a Buckeye fan.
Thad Matta - the Scott Drew of the Big 10
@approxinfinity I hate NBA.
I swear, I was wondering how Lyndon B Johnson was in trouble for racial problems 44 years after his death......
@Lulufulu In this day and age, I would be foolish to think everyone should stay four years. Correct, but foolish. Lol.
In my feeble mind there's a big difference between a guy who stays three years and a guy who stays one year. I just don't understand. If a kid is good enough to go pro after one year of college, he's good enough to go right out of high school. Why jump through the hoops (pun intended) to attend a college for a few months? I mean, if you're that good, the NBA already has your name on their chalkboard.
@Lulufulu Actually, I WAS a little flustered about Paul Pierce leaving, even after his junior year! KU had not experienced a lot of early leavers (in my recollection) before that. Wilt - he was a little before my time, but if anyone was going to leave for the pros early with my blessing, it would have been him.
I understand why these guys leave after one year. I just don't agree with it. And it doesn't endear them to me. Good Lord willing, ten years from now I will recall many of Frank Mason's magical moments (while staring at his jersey hanging in the rafters....) - I honestly will have to ask someone " hey - who was that kid from Detroit that was such a good athlete?"
@Lulufulu I realize that I'm a communist or whatever, but guys that stay one year mean nothing to me. Josh Jackson included. It's just my own thing - I don't expect anyone else to get it or agree with it.
All that does for me is tick me off that he's not still a Jayhawk.
I just tell people at work that I have bad allergies....

OH! I thought it said "Black & Blue" bloods.....
@Kcmatt7 Missouri MAKES winners into losers. It should be their state motto.
@nuleafjhawk ( i tried to copy part of this from @jaybate-1-0 's post - don't know what happened )
Letβs be real about this: Wilt was bigger and better than Superman.
He was Mega-Superman.
If I had posted earlier, this is what I would have said!
Wilt was the inspiration for Superman. Superman only wishes he were Wilt.
All the other superheros are not worthy to be mentioned in the same breath as Wilt.
I think Frank Mason could be president of the United States.
Wait, I guess that's not as prestigious as it used to be.
Maybe they could all go down south and work on Mr Trumps project.
They could call themselves
Balls to the wall.
@jaybate-1.0 Is this recruiting story about Roy a real thing, or is it some myth/legend that gets bigger with every UNC National Championship? It may be, I'm not calling you out or anything, but I just have not researched it. Surely in his 15 years here, we had to have a few players on the roster from east of the Mississippi? If it is really true, I will have lost a considerable amount of respect for him. Also, the athletic director at the time (Bob Fredrick?) would have had to shoulder some of the blame. Just some early morning babblings.......
Oh - I thought this was going to be an article about Grayson Allen.....
@wrwlumpy I just got a Headline, a blank page and some golf advertisements. No article.....
@globaljaybird That's awesome!! When I was a kid we used to go to an Episcopal church (if anyone's Episcopal please don't be offended) and it was always a snooze fest for me. The church I go to now, for the last 26 years, is Pentacostal and we have a good time! Nothing crazy, but especially worship is a celebration. We've tamed down quite a bit the past few years - everyone's getting older!!! Lol
@Kcmatt7 As long as the Elite Eight isn't in KC.......
I'm glad he's gone. I really didn't want to wear a diaper to work next year.
@BeddieKU23 Especially since his best bud Bridges is back at MSU for another year. Thought he Miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight think about coming back for us. Oh well - buh bye.
Amen! He is risen indeed!
@REHawk Exactly right. Either that, or they're just punks.
@JayHawkFanToo Someone else said that before Mark Twain -
Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace;
When he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive.
Proverbs 17: 28 NKJV
Lol
@drgnslayr said in Who Was It That Told Me There Was No Chance Bridges Would Be Back At MSU?:
Josh coming back would put us as #1 in preseason rankings and a heavy favor all year to win it all.
It would also mean that I'd have to wear a diaper to work all season. (Worth it!)
I had the privilege of meeting Roy Williams once, when he was still coaching at KU. I have always kind of prided myself on being a good judge of character, and I believe that, unless Roy is the world's best actor, he is a man of good moral character and is a genuine good guy. Now that I think about it, one of the many hardcore KSU fans that I work with told me that Roy spoke at their church one time and hung around for about two hours signing autographs and just visiting with people. He was so impressed with him I think he about traded in his purple for crimson and blue. This guy is over 60 and has been a life long KU hater and he ranted and raved about Roy. I have great admiration for Bill Snyder, but I don't carry on about him like this guy did about Roy.
Yes, it sucks big time that we almost always seem to crash way too early in the big dance and I have mixed emotions about UNC. At that point in the season I think much of it boils down to pure old fashioned LUCK. Dadgummit. One bad turnover. A couple of missed free throws. A twisted ankle - whatever. And sometimes teams have streaks of luck, good and bad. Right now, we kind of have the bad streak going and UNC has the good streak going. If you call getting beat on a last second hail mary to lose the National Championship "good luck". But at least they got to that game. Don't worry, our turn could be coming soon. We could make the championship game 5 years in a row any time now.
Rock Chalk!!
