What made Frank (not even his season) is that he's a Man. Not a punk. Does his job. Doesn't complain when the calls go against him, doesn't take credit when he puts the whole team on his shoulders (as he did many times in his career). He's humble, determined (to the point of obsessed during the games), and smart. Can we PLEASE get the NCAA to allow him 3 or 4 more years of eligibility? If nothing else, just to be an example of what a college basketball player should be.
@Crimsonorblue22 ?? So did Frank....?? I'm not saying Frank is THE best - just that he should be considered in that conversation. Everybody is going to have their own opinion - there is no conceivable way to measure who is/was the actual best.
@BShark Depends on your viewpoint. Danny was expected to be Danny. Frank was expected to fill a spot on the floor and not throw games away. Who rose above expectations? Don't get me wrong - I love Danny, but Frank's stepped it way up. I think he has a whole bunch of hardware that Danny doesn't have too.

Yet Mason will go down as the one of the greatest Jayhawks in history
I'm trying to be objective, but I am thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis close to saying he is THE greatest Jayhawk in history.
@brooksmd If you want to have some fun, change the title of this post to " Is old man Ball a _____" and let us fill in the blanks!

Notice one thing… not ONE of these PGs were OAD or left early.
That's cuz OAD's don't win championships. Maybe if you have more than one.....but not necessarily.
@JayHawkFanToo i'm just having one of "those" days today. Stupid crap popping into my head........
@JayHawkFanToo Memories like:
?@wrwlumpy Tell em not to pee until they get back to California.
Well, that was not a fun little story. I should have known better than to read it at work. Now everyone's looking at me with those deer in the headlight eyes. I just told them it was because I watched the replay of the KU vs Oregon game at lunchtime....

The 03 failure was on the players. Roy put together a very good team, but when the players do not execute, it does not matter.
This sounds vaguely familiar - are there any recent -VERY RECENT- Kansas teams that this could be said of.........................?

Didn’t you hear? Porter indicated his goal is to win a National Title with MU.
I thought Porter was a basketball player, not a stand-up comedian. Or an idiot.....
@HawkInMizery said:
i wonder how fast they will retire him.
If they had his jersey hanging up there ...........tomorrow it would not be soon enough. And somebody needs to get to work on a statue - put him right out there next to Phog Allen with a plaque.
"Welcome to the Mecca of College Basketball. Stay four years and you might have a jersey hanging in the rafters and a statue on the lawn too".
@BShark We'll be a spectacle. Glad we won't have to worry about it.
Side note - I'll bet every NBA team has a lawyer or two that can make that first year contract not very lucrative to the blown out knee player.
@Crimsonorblue22 If Josh Jackson stays one more year - I will wear a diaper to work.
@HighEliteMajor OK - I don't ever literally LOL - but I did just now!
@BShark You can have an injury or illness at any given time in your life. What's Josh Jackson gonna do if he blows out his knee next year? Well, I guess he'll have plenty of time to go back to school then....
@BigBad Maybe you and I are social outcasts. I mean, I get why an 18/19 year old kid would want a wheelbarrow full of money handed to him and more P**** than the local animal shelter (of course, they can get that in college too....) - but seriously, the money can't wait 2 or 3 more years? Does nobody have patience anymore? I'm not picking on Josh Jackson - I'm just using his name because he's "famous", but if he stayed at KU for 4 years he literally would own every record that pertains to college basketball at Kansas. He would be a legend. Some might even someday mention him in the same breath at Wilt Chamberlain. GASP.
Speaking for myself only - 5, 10 years from now I'm going to tell someone about this incredible kid that was the heart and soul of KU - Frank Mason. Then I'll ask around - "Hey - who was that kid with the big hair that could jump like a kangaroo?" I literally won't remember his name. I promise.
It's not their fault - the OAD's - it's our society. It's greed. It's impatience. Too bad the kids don't stick around, get their degrees and enjoy the college experience. The money will be there.
@BShark I clicked on this and couldn't find anything but a picture "slideshow". Is there an actual interview? I'd like to hear what he has to say!

Root for Gonzaga, or SC, or even Oregon … because if Roy gets another, our mountain is steeper. Though, if someone had to be King other than Self, I’m glad it might be Roy.
Right now, I have some strange man crush on Frank Martin. I'd be less perturbed if South Carolina won it. (Less perturbed since KU isn't there...)
It wouldn't kill me if Ol Roy won it again. He's had nothing but great things to say about KU - I personally was ticked at him for about 5 years after he left, but hey - he did what was right for him and his family. I'm over it now. (I'd like him a lot more if he'd trash those God-awful checkered jackets..... :-1: )
There is no scenario on earth that permits me to root for Oregon or Gonzaga. That's all I'll say.
As my sweet (female) friend who lives in South Carolina loves to say - GO 'COCKS!!
@dylans OK - you're not on my team. Lol.
The more I ponder the title of this post "LaGerald the Executioner" the more I like it.
Bill Self has a reputation as a tough guy - but his teams rarely reflect that. Frank got it. Frank got the crap out of it. He has my ultimate respect, as a basketball player, but mostly as a man.
Anyway, I would like to submit that we start recruiting "Executioners". Guys that want to get you down by twenty - then double that. Guys that leave the opponents lying on the floor when they fall. And kinda laugh at them, but not loudly enough to get a "T". I'm serious. You can be gentle and kind and sweet and be all rainbows and unicorns and butterflies off the court, but be a bad a$$$ on the court.
I want us to change our name from Jayhawks to the Kansas Executionhawks. I want to be the coach. I want to channel Bobby Knight and Frank Martin and I want everybody in America to hate me - except for my Championship players and their families.
RCEH !!
@mayjay I'm with @BeddieKU23 - I want the team that beat us to get beat by at least 50 and for the star of that team to have 2 quick fouls, pout like a girl, tense up his whole team - wait wait wait - that's another story. ......and for the star of that team to have his butt handed to him on a platter.
And I want the opposing coach's dog to run away from home.
@jaybate-1.0 I wanted us to beat them for the worst of reasons - when I saw the video of Dbag Altman calling us "Chickenhawks" I about came unglued. I'm almost 60, but I guarantee you, at that moment I would have been on him like a chickenhawk on a junebug.

I’m just curious as to how many schools/fans would wet themselves to have the opportunity to have 7 chances at the elite 8? win or lose?
Yes - BUT they aren't KANSAS fans!
I try to be a decent human being most of the time, but am I the only one who got some sick, twisty satisfaction from the Oregon women's team getting mauled yesterday?
If so, I can live with that.
@Crimsonorblue22 He definitely wasn't the only one!! The difference is, he had very, very good stats all year long and he is an upperclassman that others looked to for leadership. You know that chant that WE use all the time? " You let your whole team down..... " kinda applies here.
@FarNrthJHwk Yes it's a really good place, I hope you stick around. We argue, laugh and BS each other, but it's more like a family than any other online place I've found. We try to keep things civil but are not always successful. The good thing is we usually kiss and make up. Good KU loving people here.
@FarNrthJHwk Lol - just me!
@betterfireE and many people changed their minds after we beat Michigan St by 20 (which NOBODY does) and a very good Purdue team by 32. I refuse to buy into the fact that their guards were that much better than our. All year - from day one - even the east coast media owned up to the fact that KANSAS had the best backcourt in the country. But half of it didn't show up Saturday.
Keep in mind this is not a personal attack on him - I love him, hope he stays next year - but for whatever reason he did not show up Saturday night and it cost us a trip to Phoenix.
Right here is why we got beat Saturday:
MIN-38
FG 0-7
3PT 0-6
FT 3-4
OREB - 0
DREB - 2
REB - 2
AST - 2
STL - 0
BLK - 0
TO - 1
PF - 2
PTS - 3
LOL - looks like I need a substitute teacher - i misspelled "substitute" in the title of this post.....
@BShark My point is that if they were that tied to a shoe brand, they wouldn't go to any school that wasn't that brand. I'd bet that most kids would wear white Chuck Taylor high top converse to play at the school they want to play at.
@BShark Andrew Wiggins and Josh Jackson didn't seem to mind Adidas

Altman is a good coach.
I can't speak objectively as to whether or not that is correct. I can, however quote Clark Griswold as to how I feel about Altman:
"...cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, four-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, d##kless, hopeless, heartless, fat-ass, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed sack of monkey s##t he is!"

Frank did deserve better. My all-time favorite Jayhawk.
Mine Too. I'm going to retire "Where there's a Wilt, there's a way"
@jayballer54 Valid point - except Cal is 4-2 in Elite Eight and Bill is 2-49. Or something like that.
I'll bet Frank would trade every single honor and accolade for a trip to the Final Four.

It was like they lost their team ID
Let's get them some fricking badges from now on so they know who they are
Every one of us has had a substitute teacher at one time or another, right? How about next year at the Elite Eight (yes, we will be there again) we hire a substitute coach? Just a one game deal - don't go crazy. I'm not suggesting we fire the best coach in the country (except for that one game.....)
My vote for that one game would be Frank Martin. The purple's all gone from him now and i LOVE his passion. He motivates me just watching him on TV and I don't give a crap about South Carolina.
If South Carolina wins, the championship game will feature an ex K-State coach verses an ex KU coach. Yikes.
@Bosthawk I didn't research, but probably in their last Elite Eight
@Texas-Hawk-10 That's what happens - you get classless, punk players when you have a classless, punk coach.
@Texas-Hawk-10 Sorry - I didn't see your post before I made mine, about the 50 points. Great minds........
@wissox Respectfully disagree. To me, Oregon getting beat by ......50 would be salvation. Then let Ol Roy win it all. He's the closest tie we have to KU in the tournament now. (No, I'm not counting Calipari)
@globaljaybird Thank you so much! It means a lot to me. This will sound weird (I won't even say "probably" - it's just weird), but I feel closer to a lot of you on this site than I do to people with faces. We've all said it before, but @approxinfinity - thank you again for this site - it's about a lot more than basketball.
