@bskeet You should always take those tags off and throw them away. It's worth the fine.
Thanks guys! I appreciate your input very much.
This has nothing to do with sports or KU, but I know there's a lot of friendly, helpful, knowledgeable people on here and I'd like to ask a favor. My son is going to be working in the KC area very soon and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a nice, safe apartment complex within say 25 miles or so of the Legends area. His budget right now is probably about $1,000 per month. He was thinking of Overland Park or someplace like that to start. Any ideas or suggestions you have would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you very much.
@jaybate-1.0 I missed out on all the fireworks on this thread, but one questions haunts me - how did the fishing go? A friend of mine sent me a picture yesterday, her, her mother and another person I don't know were holding 3 stringers of probably 25 catfish. Nice ones! I'm expecting a fish fry in the very near future....
@jaybate-1.0 Well. Uh. Going deep is always better than exiting early....
@TheDrunkenJhawk My argument: Frankamp WAS a Jayhawk. Graham IS a Jayhawk.
Ding! Ding! Graham wins in a first round knockout!
@JayHawkFanToo A couple of things that jumped out at me - the 1961-1962 season where he AVERAGED 50.4 pts per game and 25.7 rebounds. It's mind boggling.
Then when people accused him of being a ball hog (which he was not) - he lead the league in assists in 1967-1968 with 702 !!
The one stat, which I don't think is listed here, that really blows my mind though is he never fouled out of a single game in his career. Incredible.
Since I don't like to rock the boat and keep everybody happy - when it comes to the greatest player of all time, their is only one name.
WILT
From nba.com
He was basketball's unstoppable force, the most awesome offensive force the game has ever seen. Asked to name the greatest players ever to play basketball, most fans and aficionados would put Wilt Chamberlain at or near the top of the list.
Dominating the game as few players in any sport ever have, Chamberlain seemed capable of scoring and rebounding at will, despite the double- and triple-teams and constant fouling tactics that opposing teams used to try to shut him down.
SHOOT - I tried a hundred times and ways to import stats from nba.com, but they just got all jumbled up. Check them out if you'd like: http://www.nba.com/history/players/chamberlain_stats.html β
@bskeet Well. In my opinion (who cares!) I think that Self gets higher ranked Rivals kinds of fellows, but Roy took good athletes and got greatness out of a lot of them. It seems as though Self underperforms sometimes. Pardon my laziness, but I'll bet anything that Roy had more elite eight and final four teams than Self (I've been wrong before) and could have easily had at least three rings with a lucky bounce here or there. I love Self. I don't want Roy back, but he did put some dang exciting teams on the floor for us.
@drgnslayr Look at the stat sheets, he's also one of the most rock-solid Jayhawks on the court!! He's the victim of crazy high expectations.
@bskeet I don't think there's any doubt that we have "played down" to the level of our opponents for several years now. We don't have the 25, 35+ point blowouts (going from memory now, so everyone is free to pick it apart) that we used to have under Roy. We either play tight games with opponents that we should thrash or even get down 15-20 points and have to come back to win these games. It's been mentioned several times in the past few years that we lack that "killer instinct".
@VailHawk Thanks to my son, the computer engineer: !tattoo_upgrade.jpg β
@VailHawk Well, I may have to wait until one of my kids come home to visit - I'm not all that proficient at that kind of thing. But I'll be glad to share when I can figure it out!
@approxinfinity He wishes!
Our society is in a big hurt. So many people have no sense of what is right and what is wrong. And we're the ones who are judged if we don't agree with all the craziness. I like to think of myself as a loving person - I don't care if anyone is gay or transgender or even a Mizzou fan. Well, gay or TG anyway. But I don't agree with the lifestyle and nobody is going to make me agree with it. A few months ago I got a tattoo on my right forearm - the whole forearm! - and it's what most people would consider pretty religious. I have not caught so much crap in 56 1/2 years as I have in the last 6 months because of that tattoo.
And I'd do it again tomorrow. In fact, I have another forearm.....
@drgnslayr It's a seriously funny game to play. Just make sure you're not easily embarrassed (I'm guessing that's not a problem). I've played the game with my kids and my dad and we've all laughed so hard I literally thought I pulled a muscle in my stomach. I wouldn't want to play it with my Pastor and his wife though. And they are really cool people.
@drgnslayr The weather has wreaked havoc on my garden this year. The only things that are doing consistently well are rhubarb and cucumbers. Everything else i've been buying at the store.....
As far as games go - anybody ever play Cards Against Humanity? Oh My!! :see_no_evil: :hear_no_evil: :speak_no_evil: - those things don't apply!
@Crimsonorblue22 You Girl.....
@wrwlumpy Maybe the Post Office could issue some KU Gold Forever stamps. Or the Mint could replace "In God we Trust" with "Rock Chalk Jayhawk" on every coin.
Something to think about.....
@JayHawkFanToo That didn't work - back to the drawing board
I was proud that this was mostly a Kansas team and the whole world knew it, but honestly I was a little confused as to WHY. We were representing the United States and I really think the jerseys should have just said USA from the start. We'll all remember that we won the gold, but I personally don't think any banner should be hung in the Fieldhouse.
@KUSTEVE How important is your job, really?
@Crimsonorblue22 i missed being here too. It's been a weird summer - lots of "stuff" going on. I hope to be back in full swing by the time basketball fires up again!
@VailHawk lol - thanks for thinking of me !! I'm at work (in body anyway) and was battling Cox to get the stupid watchespn thing working. Finally got to see the last 3 minutes.
@Lulufulu It's kinda scary that her lips are almost as big as her chest.
@Lulufulu I've always liked Selden's "potential". We've seen that he can play when he wants to. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like he can turn "it" off as easily as he can turn "it" on. ? Does he go full throttle every game? To me, it seems like he doesn't. And maybe he's talented enough to get away with it.
@wissoxfan83 I don't know what to think. It's hard to follow them with no technology......
@JayHawkFanToo You and @DoubleDD BOTH spying on me? Lol.
@DoubleDD You spying on me? I have total apathy for the NBA, but do keep an eye on JITL. (Jayhawks in the League). BUT - I only watch the Jayhawks - never another coach, player, fan or waterboy.
@RockChalkinTexas I'm just messing with you on the TV thing. We'd all be better off without it, for the most part. I always tell people I want to move to a deserted island with no outside interference.
Except for air conditioning and some way to watch KU basketball.
@wrwlumpy I had no idea that there was such a textile shortage there.
@REHawk I :heart: Larry Brown
@RockChalkinTexas OK - Major kudos for the lack of phones and the free internet. You WOULD have catapulted to the very top of the list if you hadn't mentioned the part about no cable or satellite - that's just weird. Lol.
I know we're all outcasts, but one of the few things that actually, truly scares me is how dependent our society has become on technology. It definitely has it's place, but like most things we take it to extremes and then let it control us. I can't tell you how many people per day I see texting and driving. All these smart phones still can't keep us from being stupid.
@wissoxfan83 YOU HAVE NO SMART PHONE?
You are no longer welcome on this site. Or this planet.
Actually - you just zoomed to the top of my favorites list! I have a land line (for those of you under 30, it's the equivalent of a television with no remote - they really did exist - oh never mind...) and when we travel, my wife has a pay as you go flip phone. That is a real head turner these days.
@ZIG Honestly, Christ probably doesn't care if it's an American team competing or not, but I know He appreciates you thinking of Him.
Now if Jerusalem had a team in there...........
@KUSTEVE If you need me, I'll be out in the cement pond with Elly May.
@JayHawkFanToo I STILL need a vacation from my vacation! Four days in Vegas = at least a week to recoup.
@KUSTEVE I've had my heart broken during several games.........
Maybe Bill can fill in for Carlton.....
Yesterday a few of us had a discussion about guns and gun control issues. Probably an issue that doesn't belong on this site, but one that was pretty lively for a while.
What I got from the whole conversation is this: If we (our society) could all be mature enough to talk about things, like the people on this site, we would live in a virtual paradise. Not everyone agreed about everything yesterday, but people were allowed to voice their opinions, I don't recall any name calling going on (but then again my wife says my memory is as short as my ...........paycheck) and we got through it all. Good job Kubucketeers! You all are the reason why this is my favorite place on the internet
Only 3 more days until we can watch some KU basketball !!
@HighEliteMajor Very nice post, sir. It's been so long ago now that I can't remember how this all started, although I kind of feel responsible for it. If so, I apologize for that. I too prefer basketball discussions.
Or football.
Or baseball.
Or music.
Or art.
Or gardening.
Or animals.
But that's IT !
No guns, no politics, no religion, no sex. Wait, I kind of like talking about religion sometimes.
I'm going to bed now. Where there is also no guns, no politics, no religion and......sigh............no sex.

and God knows itβs not easy being a cop these days. They are worth their weight in gold, and are there to protect and serve us all
AMEN. AND AMEN. I'm not a cop, don't personally know anyone who is, but I thank God for them every day. They take an incredible amount of crap, from the public and from the media, but I guarantee that I would not want to do that job. Not for the amount of money they make, or for any amount of money actually.
@HighEliteMajor This is like one of those arguments with my wife (where no one gets shot, because neither of us carry guns). I guess we're just not understanding each other. I'm definitely not understanding you! (I'm not being mean spirited, I just don't get what you're trying to tell me.) It seems, at times, as though you're agreeing with me and then again it seems like you just want to argue.
Don't shoot! My hands are in the air. I surrender. For a while.
Wait. My tiny little brain just had another spark. There's a guy I work with ( I will refrain from calling him an idiot (or will I?)) that carries a gun. He always wears "cargo" pants and keeps his gun (whatever it is, I've never seen it or asked) in the buttoned up pocket of his cargo pants. WHY? I told him I could come in the building and beat him to death with a baseball bat before he could even think about getting that gun out of his pocket. He didn't even respond because he knew I was right.
From what I understand, Kansas is now a old school, old west town mentality state and pretty much anybody can carry any weapon they want, anywhere, any time. I sure as hell don't want to go to a KU-KSU game with 12,000 gun toting, good ol boys losing their minds when we beat them by 20 points.
This is like one of those OAD commentaries. I'm not ever going to win. The weapons are here to stay until we all kill each other. I just don't have to like it.
@dylans Yeah, I've got several guns myself. I don't strap em on and go to the mall or church with them though! Like you, I love target shooting (and am a pretty good shot, if I do say so myself) but like most things, a few warped individuals screw things up for everyone. I sure long for the good ol days. And I'm envious that you live in a neighborhood where you don't have to lock your doors. I hardly live in the ghetto, but I do lock up at night!
@dylans Regarding the deer - just man up, grab the deer by the antlers and yank the poor critters neck violently until it snaps. This works. I've seen it done in " The Long Kiss Goodnight ". Lol. Sorry.
Many years ago, I heard that in the FIRST HOUR of whatever year it was, there were more gun related deaths in the United States than there were the whole prior year in Canada. Also, when I lived in Houston (some of you Houstonians will bear witness to this), now keep in mind that this was pre-1987 - it was reported that Ben Taub Hospital routinely treated over 50 gunshot wounds PER DAY.
Sorry to all for the gun rants - I'll go back to my nap now.
@HighEliteMajor Agree about gun ownership, but I'm not totally buying into the "defense" argument. Too many people that carry guns for self defense wind up getting shot anyway, or shooting themselves or their own loved ones. There are many people who are carrying guns on the offensive also. People who are filled with hate, who want to assert themselves physically or commit robbery.
@justanotherfan I know that sounded harsh, but I can't apologize. There's something wrong with a society that has to carry guns. I'm an American. I like John Wayne. I believe in freedom and all that good stuff. I just don't believe people need to be carrying around guns. In MY day (waaaaay back then) if you had a problem with someone, even your worst enemy, you got into a fight - beat the crap out of each other (with your fists) and then it was over. No guns, no knives, none of that BS. I believe in progress, but what our society has done as far as getting along in the last 50 years is the opposite of progress.
@justanotherfan It's a bad idea for ANYONE to carry a gun. Unless you're hunting. Animals. Four legged ones.
They've tried the whole gun carrying thing before. It was called the Old West. It didn't work then either. People are too stupid to be carrying guns. They can convey their stupidity well enough by texting and driving.
@MoonwalkMafia It's a site for KU fans. Who are also fans of other stuff. Do like I do, if you don't like a subject, don't read it.
