By now Bill would've drawn a T just to wake up the team
Our regular spot for watch parties is the same as Duke's. Everybody's pretty mellow right now...so far.
@DanR And 7:24 out west
Ted Lasso is on board with the USMNT ! Billboard, that is.
Looks like everybody on our roster escaped their club games this past weekend without any more injuries.
Josh Sargent scored for Norwich against Middlesborough goalie Zach Steffen, who was left off the US WC team. (Boro got the win though. )
Speaking of spurned players, my favorite story of the weekend was Brentford striker Ivan Toney. Left off the England squad, he took it out on Manchester City. Toney scored twice in a 2-1 upset of the defending EPL champions. First time Brentford has won a road game in Manchester since 1937...85 years !
Amazing stats by JoJo.
Funny how when someone has a near-record-breaking game, they'll always say "he had the best night ever...since Wilt."
He fell back a bit in the final round, shooting a 1-over-par 71 to finish tied for 9th. Still, that's good for nearly $200k in prize money. Best finish by far this season as his recovery continues. Meanwhile, Finau cruised to a four-stroke win.
Wow, some wild finishes today. Glad the Chiefs game wasn't one of them.
Broncos lose again to drop to 3 and 6. Toast. (I guess now you can call him "Not-So-Danger-Russ" Wilson.)
Buffalo drops one to Minnesota in overtime. Bills fumble in the end zone to give the Vikings the lead, Allen brings his team back for a tying FG to send it to OT, then throws an interception on what would've been a game-winning TD drive. (Are the Vikes the best NFL team that nobody talks about ?)
And a late Seattle comeback falls short vs. Tampa Bay in Munich. Geno Smith held his own against Brady, but the Bucs shut down the Seahawk running game. Hawks still lead the NFC West with a bye week ahead, then a home game against the hated Raiders.
Looks like Gary's recovering nicely from those back problems that caused him to drop out of last month's tournament in Las Vegas.
He shot another 67 today in Houston to move into a tie for sixth place going into Sunday's final round. Only one shot out of third. Probably too far back to catch leader Tony Finau, but you never know.
@Texas-Hawk-10 That UW Husky win over the Ducks eliminates one more team that could've caught TCU in the playoff race.
That leaves Tennessee as the only team with a realistic chance to catch them, assuming TCU runs the table.
And how 'bout those Mizzou Tigers ! Gave up 66 points and 728 yards to Tennessee. Caught 'em on a bad week I guess. Har !
Now who's going bowling and who ain't ?
K-State holds off a comeback bid by Cal. 63-54
@wissox said in Other games:
@nwhawkfan I wonder what Raef is doing these days?
Just Googled him. Apparently he's an assistant HS coach in Decorah, Iowa.
@wissox said in Other games:
Watching Jerrod Haase against the Badgers. 97 team has two major head coaches now.
Not to mention a Hall Of Famer !
BTW, the Cal coach, Mark Fox, is a Garden City native who has a grad degree from KU. He was an assistant at KSU in the '90s under Tom Asbury.
K-State up 20 at Cal early in the 2nd half. Surprising. Cal coach going nuts, has one T already and is on the verge of getting tossed.
Noticed that they're going to try to have another CBB game on an aircraft carrier tonight. Gonzaga vs. Michigan State for Veterans Day.
I say "try," because the history of these things hasn't been all that great.
Lots of problems with condensation that led to players slipping and sliding all over the court and games eventually being cancelled. We'll see how this one turns out.
(By the way, thanks to all who served. "All gave some...some gave all.")
Okay, playtime is over, Hawks. Got to step it up next week.
Not a good week to be a Summit League team. Creighton clobbering North Dakota by 31 at the half.
And UMKC lost to D-II Lincoln the other night.
Put in Teahan ! Oh, wait...
Class B technical, whatever the hell that means
So much for the post-draw buzz. USWNT loses again, this time to Germany, 2-1.
Midfielders/defense not looking too good tonight. Gave up both goals on German counterattacks, including a late one that gave them the win, right after we'd equalized on a Morgan-to-Rapinoe goal.
Plenty of minutes to go around for everybody tonight.
And a big win in his first game as head coach ! Even got the "game ball" from Durant in the locker room afterwards.
KU wins the opener 72-61. J-ville made it a little closer than it needed to be in the 4th quarter, but it's still a win.
Jackson with a double-double, 16 points and a dozen boards. Kersgieter led all scorers with 17.
Up next: Texas-Arlington next Wednesday.
The one that surprised me was the omission of Zack Steffen from the roster. He used to be our #1 in goal, but I guess all that sitting on the bench at Man City didn't help, and the loan to Middlesborough for more PT wasn't enough to sway Berhalter.
On the plus side, glad to see our local favorites Morris, Roldan and Yedlin make the team.
Saw highlights of Chelsea's League Cup loss to Man City today. Pulisic got the start and had a couple of close-in chances early on, but couldn't finish.
Heard about the big recruiting score. Looking forward to another great season for the women starting tonight.
Wow, what a week for Jayhawks past and present. A bowl-bound football team, an alumna wins the NYC Marathon, Jacque Vaughn gets the Nets gig full-time, the Gradey Dick era starts with a bang. Hey, coach Tad Boyle even picked up his first five-star recruit at Colorado !
GREAT TO BE A JAYHAWK !!!
Great news !
It's a no-lose situation for Jacque. Obviously hoping for the best (for his sake, anyway), but anything he can do with that dysfunctional mess will at least bolster his resume.
My nephew (a former Big Jay mascot at KU) worked on the Nets video crew until recently. Without going into too much detail, he said that the problems in that organization go well beyond the player personnel. He got so fed up with his situation that he left to take a better-paying gig with one of the pro rasslin' outfits.
Anyhow, good luck Jacque !
Horny Toads survive. Barely. 73-72.

Not sure if anybody posted this but UAPB - - OVER TCU by 11 at the half
Yep. TCU came back and took the lead in the 2nd half, but UAPB is still only down 1 at the 4 minute TO.
geez thats crazy
Another SWAC team, obviously better than Miss. Valley State, tonight's sacrificial lamb for Baylor.

Correction...make that 9 of 13 for Dick.
Chant time.
Nice debut by Gradey. 23 points on 8 of 13 from the field, including 4 of 6 from behind the arc.

Any of you younguns out there know there used to be an NBA team in Omaha?
The Kings were KC and Omaha, right?
At first, because there weren't enough open dates at Municipal Auditorium (before they built Kemper Arena). They left Omaha after a few years and played in KC full time until the team moved to Sacramento. I used to watch them practice at Rockhurst U. when Nate Archibald was on the team.
TCU down 11 at half to Pine Bluff

- Well Season off and running. Baylor already playing now - - really weird time. They are up of course 45-14 with like 3 minutes ot go in the 1st half
Drew sure can pick em, possibly the worst team in the country. Same school has lost to Utah by 100, Arkansas by 80 and ISU by like 70 in previous seasons. I don't see the appeal of scheduling teams like this.
Agreed. Not much point in playing the worst team in the NCAA's weakest conference.
Nino passed away a couple of years ago. Played for the Jayhawks in the 1970s after taking Salina Central to a state title. Once he got to KU he couldn't adapt to Ted Owens' system. That (and poor shooting) put him on the bench behind guys who eventually went to a Final Four. Samuel transferred to Marymount College, a former girls school in Salina that had just gone coed. As I recall, it was a power on the NAIA level for a few years.
Marymount closed in the late 1980s. Part of the campus is now used by the Kansas Highway Patrol.
Almost missed this among all the football hoopla...
Former KU track star and NCAA champion Sharon Lokedi ran her very first marathon in New York on Sunday...and won it !
The 2019 winner of the NCAA 10,000 meters ran the New York City Marathon in a time of 2:23.23, pulling away late to finish seven seconds ahead of the runner up from Israel. Her time was less than a minute off the course record. On a hot day no less.
Way to go Sharon ! RCJH !
The best/worst game the Chiefs have played all year. Kudos to the D.
OHMIGOD !!!
Okay, I'll be Mister Obvious...third time's a charm !
Geez, what's the deal with Butker ?
This is proving to be one of these ugly grind-it-out games. Their backup QB looks like a decent game manager, and Henry's already got 92 yards rushing. Chiefs O line needs to tighten it up and keep the Titans off Mahomes.
The thing I always enjoyed about having those mags was the ability to go back years later and see much the game has changed.
A couple of years ago I sent a post about a Street & Smith's issue that I dug out from the 1979-80 season. Interesting to all see the now-defunct conferences from long ago (Metro, Southwest, etc.), the relatively few transfers compared to today's free-for-all, the "can't miss" high school stars who were never heard from again (save a couple of exceptions named Doc Rivers & Matt Doherty).
The low expectations that year for the Jayhawks were pretty much accurate, as we ended up with only a 15-14 record, tied for fourth place in the Big Eight.
And the magazine's feature article was a spread about the 1980 USA Olympic Team (including KU's Darnell Valentine), the one that never played due to our boycott of the Moscow games over their fighting a war in Afghanistan. Kind of ironic as it turned out. How times have changed.
What a weekend. Looking forward to another Chiefs victory tonight.
So far my FB teams are 3-and-0 this weekend. UW Huskies on Friday night, then that massive KU win yesterday, followed by the Seahawks over the Cardinals today.
When the season started, did anybody realistically expect those last two to have six wins at this point of the season ? That's some rareified air. I am loving this.
(Fun fact: Both the Jayhawks and Seahawks have players named Cobee/Coby Bryant, not to mention a Neal on each team.)
Go Chiefs ! Make it a weekend sweep !
As someone who faithfully used to buy the old Street & Smith College Basketball magazines dating back to the Seventies, it's sad to see the dwindling number of these annuals.
When S&S stopped publishing their print edition a few years ago, I starting buying the Sporting News or Athlon pre-season mags. Now neither is doing one for 2022-23. As far as I can tell, that brings my options down to two publications...Lindy's Sports (the one I just picked up) and the Blue Ribbon yearbook.
I realize that nowadays so much of the magazine world has gone digital, but I still miss the ability to leaf through the print version...not to mention the occasional dip into my stash of back copies. Progress of sorts I guess, but still a shame.
@Jethro Hell I'll take the Cheez-Its Bowl !
Bartender just bought us blue Jello shots. I like this place
Goalposts don't stand a chance.
