If Kelce shuts his mouth and doesn’t fumble the Chiefs win. If Mahomes doesn’t throw a red zone interception, they win. If MVS could catch a ball, any ball, they win. Doesn’t seem like a coaching issue, but if it is the difference from the best offense in football last year and the product this year is Nagy and JuJu. In the offseason fire Nagy, cut MVS - pickup a decent veteran wide receiver to steady the group and draft a couple young guys. Problem is the 1st round pick likely needs used on a new tackle as they both suck. (Oh and Andy won’t fire Nagy, he kept Sutton around for years)

Yup, well said.
I was pleased they gave Pacheco some touches. That was a positive. Beast. Honestly, cut ALL the receivers except Rice. Then just give him end arounds and shorts slants, let him YAC it up.

Play calling has been suspect at times this year. Last night seemed OK.

The Kelce fumble was surprising. But before the game started, looking at the rain, I thought the game could easily come down to a slippery fumble or weird play or two.

I truly think Mahomes has been off his game. Inaccurate a lot. He’s tossed multiple picks when he lazily lofts it over defenders.

Well, that didn’t work out so well! At least the Jayhawks won.

Looks like we get Shaka’s squad next? They got any size?

Helluva box score for McCullar and Hunter. Wow.

I’m ready to trade Timberlake for a Chalupa. Think Taco Bell would take that deal? :)

Elmarko had one or two lightning fast plays. I hope we see more of that soon.

Furphy needs strength for sure, but I hope he doesn’t put on too much weight. Tonight it seemed he was a bit slower on the ball than I thought. He’s big, but don’t want him to lose any potential on ball ability. I don’t have a comparison player in mind for him yet.

Maybe Arterio beats the charges and comes back??

The Chiefs game felt like the KU game over the weekend: stupidity and turnovers.

Holy crap. Sergino Dest just lost his mind on the pitch against Trinidad. Omg.

Pissed over a ball he tried to keep in bounds (looked out), he punted the ball 100 yards. Straight yellow. Then just starts mouthing off in epic proportion to the ref. His teammates were grabbing him, telling him to shut up. Multiple times. He would not. Unbelievable , but red carded for being a douche.

Tim Ream was just berating him on the field. Dest just pushing him away. Shocking behavior for a pro.

And seconds later TriTob scored.

I’ve been pretty impressed with Ballard for the most part. He made some youthful mistakes yesterday for sure, but the future looks bright. It was late last night when I had a chance to watch, so I may have fast forwarded over his interceptions. Seems confident, poised. Were the picks his fault?

So all this tracking the transfer talk brings the question:

Which former KU player turned out to be the best college transfer?

Grimes?

Grimes would be up there. Although not recent, I'd throw David Padgett into that conversation considering the success he had at Louisville during a time when Louisville was pretty good. Although he transferred for non-personla reasons, JR Giddens had a pretty good college career at New Mexico and spent a bit of time in the NBA.

Padgett a good call.

Holy shit turds. Just done watching DVR’d game. What a tragic loss. Sad.

We just tossed that game out the window, handed them the win.

I haven’t read the thread, but I imagine the culprits have been covered.

I’m still steamed at that missed pick 6 that could have maybe iced it. Wow.

What to Expect at the Champions Classic? • Nov 15, 2023 06:53 PM

Woke up still very happy we pulled off that win.

Hunter was nutso awesome. Dajuan was very aggressive, which we’ve been waiting for. What a shooting night! But, no offense to Dajuan, but if he’s our main threat from deep, we got problems.

I think my boy Furphy will become a 3 pt threat this season. Form looks good. Elmarko didn’t look awful shooting it. KJ did! :) Dunno what Timberkake’s deal is. Does he just need to get used to big boy competition? If he can’t shoot, I see no purpose for him hitting the floor at all. Liability. I was high on his athleticism in highlight reels, but that’s not shining at the moment. Sorry, approx, but it pains me to watch McCullar shoot!

More Jamari! More Furphy!

What to Expect at the Champions Classic? • Nov 15, 2023 09:12 AM

Well, got home late from an out of town trip, so had to DVR the game. Zzz.

I sure as hell thought this was gonna be a sky is again falling note. Surprise, surprise! :)

Happy for the win, but sure as hell did some cussing along the way.

The Kentucky players sure looked like top tier athletes. Not all, but most. We had a very hard time covering the 3 pt line. Another poster said something earlier that I was also wondering about…why were we doubling and trying to recover to the typically wide open Kentucky shooters? Odd coaching when Kentucky had no big of concern. That seemed the main problem to me for awhile.

I guess the big question is how much more leash does Timberlake get?

And wholly F*ck! What a crazy choice to put McDowell in for the first time that late! Wow.

Lets see how Furphy fares against the B12 grind. I think he is going to get muscled around, and will need to build up his body another year.

It’s Furphy time! He’s a beast!! Enjoy the ride.

Manhattan Jaspers, Who? • Nov 11, 2023 06:40 AM

Fuuuurphy!

I told ya'll!

I'm going to amend my preseason lineup thoughts.

PG: Harris

Furphy / Furphy / Furphy / Furphy fills out the rest!

He'll need somebody to guard the little ones, set him up for 3s, lobs.

Nicely done Furphy.

As usual, a downer note or two: We're gonna need to score down low more often with Hunter. Post it, brotha. no more 8 footers. no complaints about his shot from distance, but we'll need him inside more at some point.

OK, first good look at Jamari. Does he have hops? Maybe that's why the Travis comparisons? Not evident tonight. But liked his game otherwise.

Loved the KJ actions. Dunk city. Elmarko teased us with some quickness to the hoop a few times. nice. Jeez, just saw that he had 10 assists! awesome for him. Nick cannot play D. He's gonna get the hook a lot when big boy athletes are in front of him. He never quite got set for his release from 3 today either.

Great all around game from McCullar.

In my best Gomer Pyle (sorry, youngsters): Well surprise surprise!

Jeez, where the heck did that come from? :)

I’m guessing just about all of us didn’t see that coming. A very welcome sight. Too bad we missed Hunter’s first 7 pts.

Soooooo glad Timberlake found the bottom of the net. Really gonna need his contributions this season.

Just because it’s in my nature, gotta find some dark clouds in the cloudless night…

Elmarko was bad, real bad in the first half. Like saw no skills at all kinda bad. I was very worried. Thank god he slightly stepped up with a few plays in the second half. This was the perfect game for him to get some minutes to get more comfy.

And back to reality…FURPHY! If we get him for two or three years he will be a freaking beast!

Well played Jayhawks! Rock Chalk.

KU-NCCentral Eagles!!! Tonight!! • Nov 06, 2023 08:33 PM

Oh, and predictions:

Hunter leads the team in scoring and rebounding. This will be a broken record this year. Rinse, repeat.

KU wins, but who the hell knows by how much. We should at least score in the mid 80s.

Chiefs season long game thread • Nov 06, 2023 07:54 PM

So what's the deal with Toney? Why can't we game plan to get him more touches? He seems to make things happen after he catches/receives the ball. Just like Rice.

USWNT • Nov 06, 2023 07:50 PM

Looks like the women are about to hire a new coach. Dunno a thing about her, but she'll have some pretty significant issues to contend with.

To me the most glaring fix is in the midfield. When my girl Rose isn't on the pitch, it's just stale. The midfield lack of creativity is hurting overall play. And of course that means the forwards (Alex in particular) are not being fed the ball in positions to succeed. I liked her better as a winger anyway, but maybe she doesn't have that speed anymore. I did kinda like Savannah Demelo's game last time she played. she was enthusiastic at least.

Anyway, times are a changing.

Chiefs season long game thread • Nov 06, 2023 07:28 PM

So the Chiefs offense is still about Top 10 in all categories or better. That being said, they were overall No. 1 to No. 3 the last few seasons.

But, their yards per game was 413 in 2022, but down to 368 per game this season.

Hard to say if it's the chicken or the egg that may be causing some issues. Coaching, lack of WRs, or general decline because the league has caught up.

KU-NCCentral Eagles!!! Tonight!! • Nov 06, 2023 06:54 PM

Things I’d like to see happen tonight:

— the light bulb gets a bit brighter for Elmarko.

— We figure out how to feed Hunter

— The real Dajuan shows up. Be Aggressive!

— the Hunter / KJ lob, feed, pick n roll is in full force

— NO BANKED THREES! Ok, I’ll take a banked three, but you know.

Dan Orlovski is very football intelligent. He routinely makes good points with well thought out points in the radio.

Rich Eisen is just a boring individual, I have no idea who put him in charge of calling games. He lacks emotion, everything is deadpanned. Lousy game day announcer, but ok on sports center.

Rich Eisen is a pompous douche.

Hey, nice win over the Dolphins, a dangerous team.

The offense remains a bit of a mystery this season. I suppose it was nice to see other players not named Kelce involved. Surprise factor. But we needed way more Kelce! I wonder if he was sick or something.

All right. Done watching. Winning’s good.

I don’t know why this is the first thing that comes to mind, but why is Clemence gonna red shirt? Im sure we could use him at some point. Seems like everybody is peeing on Parker as a backup C.

If Self said Elmarko is still thinking too much, that would explain things. He looks like a zombie out there. Not standing out. Just fitting in. Not bad, not good. Really looking forward to seeing him get better as the season progresses.

I still think Furphy will break out as an exciting player at some point.

Harris has not been aggressive at all. Wonder why?

Hunter. Hmm. I never saw him play at Michigan, so I have no expectations. As another said, if they double and triple him, somebody’s gotta cut or make a 3 for us to succeed.

I hope this somehow grows into a hard nosed Bill Self team. I do see the hi-lo making a come back!

I think Mccullar has the highest ceiling to be the hero we need this season. I do think we have some depth that we would do well to develop and hope we continue to roll the young guys out a bit

The problem I have rooting for Kevin is that there is nothing about his game that’s easy to watch. It’s all like pulling teeth with him. Of course I want him to do well, but he just ain’t smooth.

I’m just finishing up the game as well. Halfway thru the second half.

My impression so far: hmmm. We got work to do.

Furphy with a second half start! I think he looks smooth-ish. Just young and dumb. But actually not that dumb. Looks like he fits in. His shooting form doesn’t look broke. That’s a good thing. And he’s way out of shape. Hard to judge his foot speed.

I’m still waiting to see something from Elmarko.

Nick had some looks, but he missed them all besides that pull up FT jumper. KU certainly didn't run any of their sets either so that upcoming opponents don't have film to study.

What we saw of perimeter shots from KJ and Elmarko did not look good. Hunter banked one in, and Kev drilled a big one from deep but besides that KU was easy to defend last night.

FT disparity was mostly due to the home crowd and KU's inability to guard anyone on the perimeter. Lots of tacky fouls at times but in the end KU never adjusted when Illinois drove every single possession to the paint.

I have faith in Timberlake. He looked way more bouncy in Puerto Rico than i thought. I really don't know his game, so not sure if he needs screens to get a shot off, or if he can dribble/shoot. We'll find out soon enough!

I may have to rewatch the game, but Elmarko seemed semi invisible mostly (he had one burst to the basket that i recall). And not sure if Self told Harris to chill (because he was not his usual self) and let Elmarko get things going or what.

No expectations for Elmarko to be brilliant early on. But that would be nice :)

KU Maui Exhibition Game Chat • Oct 30, 2023 05:28 PM

Ahh, finally saw a box score.

If you didn’t watch the game, it’d be pretty telling.

3 pt shooting

KU 3-12

Illinois — 11-27

I dunno how you overcome that. Maybe if you had a Udoka Azubuike dunking on every possession? I sure hope we can figure out how to get Nick some open looks.

Free throws

KU — 12-19

Illinois — 21-32

Pretty big spread there. 19 is a decent number of FT attempts, but giving up 32 is just ridiculous. That alone is a lot to overcome.

I was surprised to see Hunter’s final numbers. Better than I thought.

Chiefs season long game thread • Oct 30, 2023 07:30 AM

I also saw a few highlights where Rice and Moore dropped passes — Moore in the endzone.

Dang. i didn't get to watch today. I saw some plays on RedZone.

What went wrong?

KU Maui Exhibition Game Chat • Oct 30, 2023 12:54 AM

Lots to complain about today, but who cares. Just an overhyped scrimmage, really really early in what is practice time.

So, not gonna sweat it.

The new guys need to learn how to play with each other. That’s all.

Well, OK, on the surface there seem to be other big issues too, but like a new fish tank, the inhabitants need to time to figure out the hierarchy.

Overall not an easy on the eye performance, but we need time to figure out how to get Hunter the ball in the right spots.

Yup, that's a good thing to ponder. Could be 8-0 with Jalen.

We are lucky to have Bean, but man o man is he polar. Goods and bads wrapped up into one. I don't watch other college games, is that normal for a college QB?

I had a very bad feeling before that late interception -- i was recommending to the TV subtly that we RUN the ball on that play, and not risk what i somehow saw as a turnover about to happen. Omnipotent. Oh well. He made up for it in so many other ways.

Exempt list rules

What Can You Do While on Commissioner’s Exempt List?

The rules while being on the Commissioner’s Exempt List are set and clear. An NFL player who is on the Exempt List cannot participate in any football activities during that time.

Although the player cannot participate in practice or attend games, they are allowed to be present at the facility for meetings, and workouts and receive treatment if needed.

The players are also paid while on the list. It’s not considered a punishment that comes with a financial loss and is used more as a placeholder for the league to gather further information before they absolve or slap down punishment on a player.

OK Chiefs fans, what is your solution to the overlap with the Illinois game? For me, watching a recorded/delayed game just isn't the same. So, I'll have two screens on and see how that works out. That crazy football statistic helps here: during a 3 hour game the active plays only total about 8 min. Oh yeah, and KC is playing Denver so the game could be decided early, but I'll still watch every play.

If KU had more returning players it would be a dilemma, but there are as many new faces as a Kentucky team. - I’ll watch the chiefs game in its entirety and might watch a replay of the KU scrimmage. With the way this offseason went my main sports allegiance is leaning towards the Chiefs over KU and that’s never been the case for me. - Amazing how one disastrous offseason can taint decades of enjoyment.

Edit - don’t get me wrong. I still only root for two sports teams, just my excitement levels have shifted a bit.

I hear ya. I am also a bit weirded out about hoops lately. I’m hoping once the season begins my enthusiasm returns with it.

And when I have two games to watch at the same time, sometimes I very oddly decide which to watch first by realizing which game won’t have a ticker of other scores across the bottom of the screen!
