@Crimsonorblue22 You're a minute ahead of me. Nice!
@globaljaybird Lucas does learn. He's been keeping the ball high, not bringing it down to his waist before shooting, like we were complaining about earlier in the year.
@kjayhawks Best site for live stats:
@wissox Weird story.
@wissox She was released?
Our bigs are 7-7. Lucas, Azubuike & Lightfoot haven't missed a shot.
@Crimsonorblue22 Instead he has a couple of turnovers.
Finally!
Graham hasn't scored this half. Not that we've needed it.
He said he wants to win. That's his definition of success. I find nothing wrong with that, whatsoever.
@wrwlumpy That's like asking which of your children you love the most!

@kjayhawks doke comparable to Trob? No way
Not TRob as a junior, but as a freshman? Or even a sophomore? TRob was pretty raw at first. Doke may have even greater potential offensively. Just his massive size, combined with athleticism, could eventually draw comparisons to Shaq - a bold statement, I know, but last night was sure promising.
@BeddieKU23 I don't see any bitter in this victory, only sweet. This early in the season, any negatives from the game are merely learning opportunities. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. And any Duke loss is delicious.
Doke is tired.

Bragg really needed a couple powder puff games to settle down to start the season.
So did Jackson.
@betterfireE He looks like a freshman - with lots of potential.
@dynomitehawk KC Star picked him up. Reunited with Jesse Newell there.
@BeddieKU23 Yes, but Lucas is tall enough that he should be able to get up to the basket without needing much power. It took him 4 years to demonstrate some of those rebounding fundamentals we started seeing last year. I'm thinking he didn't really start working on offensive fundamentals until recently, so I'm not giving up hope!
If only Bragg and Lucas could trade skills, and share each others' strengths. Shooting vs rebounding, offense vs defense. Granted, neither player has shown much of either aspect yet this year, but it's early.
@drgnslayr I was thinking the exact same thing during the game! Keeping the ball high is one fundamental Lucas still needs to learn. I think he will. The fundamentals are what has made him valuable. As others have noted, he is not an exceptional athlete. He's just a big body who is smart. He does what he's supposed to. He's fundamentally solid. I think within a couple more games we won't see the ball coming down low any more. He will learn.
If only our other bigs could learn their fundamentals. Like boxing out. Just putting a body on somebody when the ball is in the air goes a long way to swinging the rebound probability into the defender's favor. Right, Carlton?
We haven’t opened the season away from Allen Fieldhouse since 2001. That was also in Hawaii, and also a loss. To Ball frickin’ State.
That season we went undefeated in the Big 12 and went to the Final 4. So let's not get too concerned just yet.
Bragg finally got a rebound.
@jaybate-1.0 In August. Nice to have him back.

@jaybate-1.0 Vick started over Bragg. Bill went small.
@Crimsonorblue22 Yes, Bill has to light a fire under him somehow.
@Crimsonorblue22 Me too! Better than working.
@wissoxfan83 I was there. It was fun.
@wissoxfan83 Yes!
Grab the ball!
Bragg didn't start? Hope that makes him mad.
I want to see Bragg do something impressive.
If you're planning to rush the floor, and preparing well in advance, it's not spontaneous. So what the hell's the point?
@DoubleDD He's playing great Defense.
@DinarHawk Put Diallo on him. Williams didn't score in the whole minute he was guarded by Diallo in the first half.
Bill shouldn't have told his guards to increase their turnovers.
@Crimsonorblue22 Mobile as a center, trying to guard guards.
Graham dribbled one on 2 instead of passing to Greene. Good decision.
I bet Diallo gets more minutes second half.
Diallo played well is his minute. Good D on Williams, ran the floor well, got a steal and a good foul.
@DanR Mick couldn't handle Williams, who scored over him their first 2 possessions and hasn't scored since Mick sat.
@DanR Ha, wouldn't take long!
@DanR who would you play instead of Traylor? Which of the other bigs? Can any of them dribble or pass any better than Trayor? It's a puzzle.
@Crimsonorblue22 Michael Luke, I heard it that time!
Ball handling is one thing, but smart passing is as important, or even more. Passing doesn't come naturally for Greene. He'd rather shoot. Lucas has many strengths, but catching a pass isn't one of them.
'tis precarious when Traylor dribbles so much.
Frank gets up slow quite often. Always makes me nervous.
@wrwlumpy That was indeed a pretty horrendous sequence. Thank goodness the ball finally went out of bounds so both teams could stop and pull their heads out of .... well, you know.
@Hawk8086 Yep, our C5 gets 25 fouls per game. Plenty of freedom to bang.
Interesting how fouls went down when we started playing better second half. C5 got 9 fouls first half and only 1 second half. Lucas alone had 3 fouls in 3 minutes first half, but 0 fouls in 9 minutes second half.
@ralster Last night 11 guys played in a game where there were no mop-up minutes, and 9 guys played double-digit minutes. One who didn't reach double-digit minutes was a starter (Mick). You're right, this year seems pretty different.
We seem to have 4 main guys, and 7 important role players whose relative effectiveness is situational. Self has a ton of flexibility in what he can do, which is a wonderful luxury. The new pattern seems to be shortening the bench in the second half of the game, not the second half of the season. Try a bunch of combinations first half to see what works best that particular night with that particular opponent, and then go with the most effective combinations the second half. Pretty nice situation to be in.
@ralster Self tried to make it happen with Selden the last couple of years, claiming Wayne could play some point, but that didn't really work. Thank goodness he has found the right players, which lets Selden move over to his natural position on the wing and thrive.
