What happened to the Royals? • Aug 26, 2018 10:40 PM

Meanwhile the Sox can't even tank correctly winning 9 of their last 12 games. All hope of the #1 pick are long gone.

@dylans Did it flood onto the field?

What happened to the Royals? • Aug 26, 2018 01:39 PM

Looks like a great time! What's the "water delay"?

What happened to the Royals? • Aug 25, 2018 03:50 AM

Funny story about Kauffman. My adult BFF is a huge baseball fan and was driving by there in the offseason. He pulled off the hiway and found a gate open into the stadium. He walked into the stadium, walked down by the dugout. Didn't see anyone so he climbs the short wall and goes into the dugout. There's a door, it's open, goes into it and follows it right into the clubhouse. Looks around for a minute or two, and walks back out. Climbs back up to the concourse and someone sees him and asks him what he was doing. My friend asked if he could look at the stadium. The guy said you can stand here but don't go any further. My friend said ok. Then walked out!

@DanR The name is terrible, the logo is worse. It's a giant red arrow pointing down.

Markese Jacobs • Aug 25, 2018 03:39 AM

Just read Markese has reopened his recruitment which I guess means he's no longer going to be a Jayhawk.

What happened to the Royals? • Aug 24, 2018 03:26 PM

@dylans I understand what you're saying, but if you start at the time of the Royals WS win in 1985, the Royals and Cardinals each have 2 WS wins. OF course 3 years before that year the Cards won, and they've played in 6 compared to 3 to the Royals in the same time span.

Another aspect is that fans of almost all teams look up to the Cardinals and say the same thing. I'd love to follow a team that I know I have hope for the next season.

Finally, the Royals have a pretty nice park too. In fact it was better than Busch 1, but currently isn't as nice as Busch 2. As a Sox fan I'm jealous of almost every teams stadium because ours is one of the worst!

What happened to the Royals? • Aug 24, 2018 03:28 AM

Too bad they're not playing the Sox so the Royals have a chance to win for her! Have fun.

What happened to the Royals? • Aug 22, 2018 10:43 PM

@dylans I ended up not going! Today was 1st day of school, forecast was kind of bad. Turns out my hunch was right. 1 hour rain delay after two innings meant Kopech only pitched 2 innings. He was terrific, striking out 4 including ending a 1st and 3rd with nobody out threat with two K's and a popup.

What happened to the Royals? • Aug 20, 2018 02:48 AM

Daughter won tickets for Sox game Tuesday at work and invited me. Sox announce they're bringing up their superstar minor league pitcher Michael Kopech and he'll start Tuesday. Jackpot! Kopech is the guy the Sox got for Chris Sale.

What happened to the Royals? • Aug 18, 2018 02:50 PM

Royals win innings 1-6, then the Sox win 7-9.

@justanotherfan You're right. They went downhill very quickly.

What happened to the Royals? • Aug 17, 2018 02:06 PM

@mayjay I know Baltimore is messing it up for both or our teams. Looked like a sure thing Royals draft 1, Sox 2 or vice versa, but no, they got to trade Manny Machado.

What happened to the Royals? • Aug 17, 2018 03:16 AM

Tomorrow is the final installment of the scintillating Sox Royals rivalry of 2018 in the race for the bottom.

@mayjay So is the etymology of depraved from the same? If so I think we need to investigate if, since this is a college basketball page, if Cal or K, or Pitino are all left handed since we know they are depraved.

HEM: Semi-Regular Observations • Aug 15, 2018 07:13 PM

@Woodrow I've said it here before in this thread even I think. Before calling them sob stories, learn about the refugees coming to our country from Central America. A bus ride back to Honduras or El Salvador would be a death sentence for some of my students I taught for the last 6 years. Escaping MS13 is one of those stories I heard. 2 wonderful 16 year old girls got here from San Pedro Sula, Honduras, the worlds most dangerous city. Do you really favor sending them back there? Todays conservatives do I guess when they say "send them all back" without even thinking about what that means. It also means vast number of unfilled jobs because the refugees Americans malign, do a lot of jobs that bring strawberries to your table, or milk to your wheaties, or wheaties to your milk for that matter. Your manicured lawns and office parks will be less so as more and more immigrants are being sent home.

HEM: Semi-Regular Observations • Aug 15, 2018 01:49 PM

You should learn the stories before calling them sob stories.

Not pure fiction HEM. I grew up a staunch republican. The party has moved to the right as I find it more difficult to vote for republican candidates. I've voted 3rd party twice in the last few years, once in the presidential election and once in a senate race in Louisiana. I still call myself conservative, but the harsher positions of the party on guns and immigration has pushed me away from the party more and more.

But I also think that the democrats have moved further left.

A guy took his car to the shop because it kept pulling left. Mechanic turned on the radio and said "Oh the problem is your radio." The man said, "how can that be causing my car to pull to the left?" The mechanic said, "simple, your radio is turned to NPR".

This is a great joke, because either side can use it! Change left to right, and NPR to Rush and it still works!

BOLD PREDICTIONS • Aug 14, 2018 03:25 AM

I'm excited about Vick, I just don't see top 5 3 point percentage. Other than that I made all the same predictions in my mind!

@HighEliteMajor Thanks for not saying he's the GOAT and starting another GOAT debate like we had a few months ago in basketball.

Gary Woodland leading PGA! • Aug 11, 2018 04:29 AM

He's a very good golfer with a chance to win a major or two. The guys who have to finish 9 holes in the morning are going to have somewhat of an advantage. But then they'll have to turn around and play 18 more pretty quickly so it evens out.

HEM: Semi-Regular Observations • Aug 10, 2018 09:28 PM

@approxinfinity I used to watch Fox a lot. Although I'm still conservative in many ways, I grew tired of their act. I'm afraid they haven't provided an alternative to 'liberal' news outlets. And they're getting worse as Laura Ingraham proved yesterday.

HEM: Semi-Regular Observations • Aug 10, 2018 12:07 PM

@approxinfinity Those are valid points, but I have a bigger problem when it's the government at any level, or even grassroots organizations, forcing people to conform to a certain viewpoint. It reeks of fascism in my mind. It's telling someone 'you can't think that way' and then punishing them for it.

HEM: Semi-Regular Observations • Aug 10, 2018 04:11 AM

@HighEliteMajor I've been saying for years the left has fascist tendencies as they curtail speech on campuses. When Condoleeza Rice is banned from giving a commencement address at Rutgers, what else is it than fascism? The somewhat silly bakery debate has fascist tendencies. If a businessperson wants to exercise his religious beliefs that way, why should he be forced to go against what he believes? I could go on and on.

HEM: Semi-Regular Observations • Aug 09, 2018 01:23 PM

@HighEliteMajor Agree 100%

HEM: Semi-Regular Observations • Aug 09, 2018 03:59 AM

@HighEliteMajor You said "Don’t ever, for a moment, believe that the kneelers love and respect this country. The kneelers look at this country with disgust (as does much of the left). And it is why they are the enemy. Anyone that looks at this country with disgust is my enemy. Because without this country, I have nothing. Folks love this country. Folks would die for this country. Folks would kill for this country. Folks would defend this country to their last breath. And the kneelers can’t comprehend why they are viewed with such contempt. Protest, complain, march on Washington. Have at it. But when you turn to insulting our country, don’t expect those that love this country to simply turn the other cheek."

Isn't kneeling just another form of protest? Didn't people die for our country for the right to protest? Even if it's protest that offends people? I think our flag, our anthem, certainly our constitution gives people the right to protest in sometimes reprehensible ways.

Sorry for your loss. Too bad we all can't get together and support you right now in person. Pray for peace and comfort in the days to come.

HEM: Semi-Regular Observations • Aug 07, 2018 11:02 PM

@HighEliteMajor Trump has energized the radical left that's for sure. Their behavior is as disgusting to me as Trumps over the top rhetoric.

HEM: Semi-Regular Observations • Aug 06, 2018 10:56 PM

@JayHawkFanToo I'll have to read those links later (going to Sox-Yankees tonight!) But I've heard the 5 cities thing before. Interesting that 3 of our 4 largest cities, NY, LA and Houston aren't on that list. Not sure about Houston, but NY has stricter gun laws than Chicago, and on the conservative side of things those cities have pretty aggressive policing which is just the opposite in Chicago. Read about the ACLU's role in Chicago's high homicide rate if you have time.

HEM: Semi-Regular Observations • Aug 06, 2018 08:39 PM

@kjayhawks I like your response, but I would say that those weapons aren't going to wound and injure 10-15 people at a time which has happened just in the last weekend twice here in Chicago.

HEM: Semi-Regular Observations • Aug 06, 2018 06:24 PM

UK, which has severe gun control averages around 100 gun homicides a year. One horrible mass shooting a long time ago in Scotland I believe. Gun control does work.

HEM: Semi-Regular Observations • Aug 06, 2018 06:15 PM

@HighEliteMajor Not a good way to start another debate by saying "The stupid anti gun folks". I sincerely like your basketball postings. IMHO you're one of the best here. You're level headed when people disagree on basketball. Why can't you be the same here?

What happened to the Royals? • Aug 06, 2018 03:06 PM

@justanotherfan I'm not smart enough to figure how this would all work, but the NFL has a genius plan in my opinion. No one ever talks small market in the NFL. Frequent Super Bowl winners Pittsburgh and GB are far from major markets. But their parity ideals means teams like them can compete at the highest level.

Baseball hasn't figured that out. St. Louis is probably the most successful small market team in MLB. A lot contributes to this but it's tiresome year after year to see the hottest free agents go to LA, NY, and Boston. It's also tiresome to see teams that develop talent to lose them when they reach free agency. For a long time, teams like Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, and KC were basically farm systems for the large market teams. Not a good way to run your sport. Especially when you consider all of those places have very loyal fanbases that will support the team when they're successful.
