The best endzone celebration was Billy White Shoes Johnson.

Thangs sure getting whack in a hurry when we're fearing going to Ft. Worth and not expecting to win.

Billy Momma Drama • Jan 06, 2018 04:50 PM

@HighEliteMajor I'd pound my chest if I made a routine tackle.

Billy Momma Drama • Jan 06, 2018 04:30 PM

I kind of like to think of myself as the @elpoyo of the facebook group!

Billy Momma Drama • Jan 06, 2018 04:15 PM

This forum is so refreshing! I happened upon a facebook group that is called Kansas University Basketball Recruiting. I thought, oh, that looks interesting, so I liked it. Big mistake, but now I have a purpose there. It's hilarious. Type something like "Dang this team is soft" and here's a typical response: "Get lost troll" "GTFO" "You're not a KU fan" One guy whom I questioned about his post that the NCAA always picks on us, nobody else asked why I'm on there because I'm obviously a Duke or Kentucky fan. When I asked him if he wanted to see my KU degree, he doubted that. I asked him if he was a KU grad. He had no response!

Most of the posts this week have been people contributing nothing more than "I don't care what happens, I'm a Jayhawk fan for life because I bleed Crimson and Blue"

Of course very little of it has to do with KU recruiting.

Then the thread on Billy's moms tweet took on a decidedly different tone than here. No objectivity, just a bunch of absolute 100% agreement with what she wrote. Anyone who did question it was called all sorts of names.

One person even called me a Wisconsin fan to which I pled guilty. Even with every privacy setting possible on FB he figured that out!

BTW this could be the year two impressive streaks ends, our conference championship streak and UW's NCAA tournament streak.

Anyways, this cordial discussion I read through today has been a good reminder of what we have here! I appreciate you guys and gals!

Is NCAA Biased Against KU • Jan 05, 2018 05:52 AM

Kentucky lost someone for the season a few years ago because the NCAA didn't certify him. We have some character issues in recent years and have recruited kids who's spotty HS record led to issues, Cheick particularly.

I don't think there's a conspiracy. Why would there be against us? Conspiracies require a lot of people keeping their mouths shut for many years.

It makes some KU fans look a little whacky. Not you @AsadZ but go on some Facebook groups. There's a whole lot of whack there!

Comparing Cunliffe's stats Tuesday • Jan 04, 2018 05:34 PM

Yeah I'm puzzled too about his lack of PT. Seems just as capable as Malik at this point.

Self's Worst Team at KU • Jan 04, 2018 02:52 PM

I'll only jump ship if it's in the tropics. Then I can swim to shore and miss this northern winter.

Coach Self shuts out Shaka...again. • Jan 02, 2018 01:59 PM

Sports and life are full of 6 second quotes that people are famous for!

I am not a crook

Playoffs? You're talking playoffs?

Et tu Brutus?

I did not have sex with that woman.

PHOF

Ask not what your @approxinfinity can do for you, ask you can do for your approxinfinity.

I have a dream of the day when a person is judged not by the color of their skin but by their ability to score the basketball.

Read my lips, no more threes.

It is finished.

Coach Self shuts out Shaka...again. • Jan 02, 2018 04:04 AM

@JayHawkFanToo why would I be up in arms?

Did the lovie smith comment I alluded to reek of arrogance?

You can call it what you want but calling a run to the final four lucky just diminishes their amazing accomplishment that year. They had to win five games if I remember correctly because they were a play in team. Luck had nothing to do with it.

When we beat OU in 88 Billy Tubbs said 'we know we're the better team. That's arrogance. It's not arrogance to proclaim to your new team and fans you're there to beat KU.

Coach Self shuts out Shaka...again. • Jan 01, 2018 03:50 PM

@KUSTEVE I want you to channel some of that knocking people out for Duke and Kentucky fans!

Coach Self shuts out Shaka...again. • Jan 01, 2018 03:46 PM

@dylans

I was very careful to use the pronoun we because I too am a fragile Jayhawk fan. I whine about east coast bias, officiating favoring favored teams, Duke is in my head too I admit.

But I do think holding a grudge against Shaka because he stated he wanted to beat Kansas is not the way I'd like to present myself as a Jayhawk fan.

Now, if you think I don't think you're a real Jayhawk fan, nothing could be further from the truth. I'll private message you the names of the fakers!

Bragg • Jan 01, 2018 02:30 PM

@jaybate-1.0 If he does they better be sure that woman is no longer around!

@Jayballer54 His career went up in smoke, literally, that's what happened.

Coach Self shuts out Shaka...again. • Jan 01, 2018 01:48 PM

My first rant of 2018! When a coach comes into a program and says his goal is to beat Kansas what is wrong with that? Good grief. According to some of you Shaka should have come in and said this: "Well, I got lucky once against KU and now that I'm coach at Texas I hope to get lucky again and beat them because I know I'm not going to beat them."

I loved it when the Bears hired Lovie Smith and he came in and said "I'm here to beat the Packers". He was praised for that comment. Bears fans loved it and he actually followed through. They were 8-9 against the Pack until they signed Cutler and well, that doomed the team against Green Bay because GB was in Cutlers head.

There's nothing wrong with confidence and having goals but some people get offended because Shaka said he wanted to beat Kansas. I'd be mad if I was a Texas fan and he didn't say something like that! But until we ascend to the top again I think we're going to be a pretty fragile group (relatively speaking of course). We're going to continue to think Kentucky, Duke and UNC get all the favors from the NCAA and the media.

But don't forget this stat, Shaka has been to the final four as many times this decade as Bill Self.

On a related note, we all know football is king at Texas. We also know that in the last half decade or so Texas football has sunk to such depths that they just fired a coach a year ago that had a losing record over 3 years. Before Charlie Strong came along Texas basketball was actually quite good. We liked to rip on Rick Barnes, but he recruited extremely well and won a lot. Both programs took a nose dive around the same time. I'm not smart enough to figure out how they're related, but methinks they are.

Now here is some interesting comments • Jan 01, 2018 03:13 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 Should have used my sarcasm font

Now here is some interesting comments • Jan 01, 2018 02:45 AM

Who cares if we get to the final four? We're happy with conference championships, right?

Texas Down, Four to Go Until Morgantown • Dec 30, 2017 10:41 PM

@wrwlumpy Yes, there was a halftime adjustment that allowed our lead to stretch to comfortable levels. A lot of it had to do with Dokes improved play.

Texas Down, Four to Go Until Morgantown • Dec 30, 2017 07:30 PM

@jaybate-1-0 Slow down on the Bamba = Embiid comparisons! He did that against a team with only one other big. Impressive sure, but we were already seeing signs of Joels footwork which far exceeds Bambi's, even when Joel was a frosh!

Texas Down, Four to Go Until Morgantown • Dec 30, 2017 03:31 PM

I was privy to Bilas' conversation with his wife when he got home after the game.

She: how was the game dear?

He: Texas had a really great player.

She: how did Kansas look?

He: Texas had a really great player, he even knew how to block shots that were going down without the refs calling it.

She: how did Kansas look?

He: that kid had like 22 blocks.

She: WHO WON THE GAME?

He: I forget but that Bambi kid was spectacular.

Texas Down, Four to Go Until Morgantown • Dec 30, 2017 06:03 AM

I was really puzzled with Smart's decision just to try to get stops in the last two minutes. We weren't even in the bonus so they needed fouls just to get us to that point, and we ran two full possessions before shooting in the last two minutes. Didn't seem very, uh Smart.

Nice summary of the game.

Kansas Jayhawk Diary • Dec 29, 2017 08:00 PM

Watched Hell in the Pacific recently. Based on a nameless atoll it only has two characters Lee Marvin and a Japanese actor who played marooned fighters who become friends in the struggle to survive but die anyways at the end. Neither character understands each other and they don't even subtitle it so you kind of join the character trying to figure out what he's saying. Irrelevant to tonight's game but interesting anyways.

Watched Markese tonight in person. 12 points, good D, on hapless opponent immortalized in a poster. Markese' team won by 30 so he was not needed to be spectacular, which he is.

Coach Self • Dec 28, 2017 08:44 PM

@Jayballer54 What does he know? We know more than him. 5 losses will not win this conference this year.

When the eff are we getting Billy?!?! • Dec 28, 2017 08:24 PM

@JayHawkFanToo @FarmerJayhawk Or they could be practicing him hoping he'll play, but even they're not sure.

What's frustrating is the lack of information. We know a few facts, but that's about it. Why does it take so long? Who knows what? Who did what? When will we know more? So many unanswered questions!

When the eff are we getting Billy?!?! • Dec 28, 2017 07:40 PM

@FarmerJayhawk Not sure why you're guessing he'll play. Can you elaborate? I don't think any of us have a clue if he'll play or not.

When the eff are we getting Billy?!?! • Dec 28, 2017 01:20 PM

I hate to say it, but this is on Billy. I know it's hard to blame a 18 or 19 year old, but he obviously showed some sort of lapse of judgment. As many have pointed out these kids are primed from the get go on how to stay eligible and he blew it somehow.

Coach Self • Dec 27, 2017 06:28 PM

What about a link to the article?

New Years Resolutions • Dec 27, 2017 05:13 PM

I pick my teams out of home town loyalty. Sox are going to be strong in a very short time. Mark my words. To be honest, I'm a fair weather Bears fan. If they get good again I'll jump on the bandwagon for sure. But a decade of mismanagement has left me embittered.

Couple of things here • Dec 27, 2017 05:01 PM

@dylans No, it's the school my kids went to but not where I taught.

Couple of things here • Dec 27, 2017 04:36 AM

@whipperboy73 Aha, our now former hometown team beat Pooka in the state semis this year on the way to the state championship!

How Many? • Dec 27, 2017 04:32 AM

@DanR But one of these years that formula is not going to work. This year we lost two home games in a row for the first time since before anyone knew what internet meant and people still liked Dick Vitale.

Any runners here? • Dec 27, 2017 01:41 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 Not sure why I'm making you nervous but asking the internet questions is almost worthless. Mr. ReHawk has been helpful on this thread so I asked him.

ANOTHER THREAD ON MITCH - NEXT YEAR • Dec 27, 2017 01:39 AM

Who is KJ?

Any runners here? • Dec 26, 2017 11:16 PM

@REHawk So today I took off on a 3 miler which matched the temperature! Any pros/cons of running in the cold? I was slower, wasn't really concerned with speed. Some snow and ice here so I was being careful not to fall, and I wore warm hiking boots with jeans. Water bottle turned to ice believe it or not. But just wondering about the pros and cons of it. I'm not really wanting to spend money on a gym with a treadmill, so freeze or sit is my options!

ANOTHER THREAD ON MITCH - NEXT YEAR • Dec 26, 2017 08:35 PM

Man I'd be pissed if I was lightfoot and hearing I might be redshirted. As has been discussed he has been asked to play the five as an under sized and has blocked shots, took charges, scored a few, made some fts and generally been very valuable to This team. Is he going to be an all time great here? I doubt it but he's invaluable to this team and will be relied on for his experience and steady hand next year. I'd be shocked if he took a shirt. Now, if he wants another year on campus to further his education more power to him because I also think we'll be alright without him too.

@REHawk Until the Big12 can consistently put teams in the final four/final 2 the regular season high rankings as the best conference don't mean too much to me.

Part of those high rankings are just a result of there not being any doormats in the league. TCU moved out of that realm years ago. 2002 was the last multiple teams from the league season, and both of us lost in the semi's in a pretty easy year to win a national championship.

Texas Longhorns - Friday - 8 pm - ESPN2 • Dec 26, 2017 12:37 AM

@wrwlumpy Saltlick Barbecue. Great place!

Merry Christmas to you all! These pages are one of my daily stops, usually frequent in nature. When I look at the SB nation sites and see the profane filth appears on those pages it's too much for this older fan. Haven't found a good page for White Sox fans, Badger fans, so I rarely visit.

What if... • Dec 24, 2017 12:01 AM

Sad.

Silvio is cleared! • Dec 24, 2017 12:00 AM

@Ralster Good to see you back again!

@Crimsonorblue22 Played what? :) Cool story!

Silvio is cleared! • Dec 23, 2017 03:28 AM

But he still can't play, right, the NCAA still has a say according to the article.

Silvio is cleared! • Dec 23, 2017 03:23 AM

You beat me to it! Don't mind getting outscooped though with good news.

@REHawk I'm not qualified to mention a players defense! I've heard JNewell talk about Garrett's D as being outstanding, I think he said he's our best defender. Obviously that's an important contribution.

The way Self typically uses freshmen I wouldn't expect much from DeSammySosa but necessity means Preston gets some minutes.

Cunliffe's lack of PT is a little concerning however. He's shown some skills that are useful, but last night, with Vick hobbled by fouls, he only got 9 minutes. Meanwhile freshman Garrett got 23 minutes and made a measly point. Right now by my eyetest I see Cunliffe as more deserving of minutes than Garrett.

KU Dokes on Stanford 75-54 • Dec 22, 2017 12:51 PM

Svi had an impressive offensive game other than going 0-5 on 3's. We've not seen him get to the rim as often as last night.

Shocked at how bad Stanford was. Some of their TO's were just awful.

Graham's assists were of the highlight real variety.

We complain about our crowd in KC. The Trees ought to complain about their crowd in Sacramento more.
