2nd post on this same topic, just saying.
@HawkInMizery Can you tell us the website you write for?
Too much ball to be played. By this time of year some teams do have a top seed wrapped up, but there are so many variables still. Injuries happen, slumps occur, tough finishing schedules expose teams or weak finishing schedules enhance teams W-L records. I don't know if anyone ever checks on how good guys like Lunardi and all the others are in predicting. It'd be interesting to know.
@ralster It's been really interesting as I watched (in person many times) maybe the most pro ready player out of HS last year in Ben Simmons. And if I had to pick between the two it'd be a no brainer. JJ all the way. Now, if Ben had a coach who was a motivator like K or Izzo or Self, he'd have been unbelievable last year. But Ben didn't have that fire. I never saw it in his face like I do JJ. You're right, he's a transcendent player who is the type that can win a championship. And he's not even having the best season on the team!
We're 27 games into the season. Thought I'd break the season down into 3 'seasons' to see how JJ has evolved. (sorry if the formatting is off,
50-95FG 5-19 3's 26-45FT 55RB 32A 10B 15St 26F 21TO 131PT

65-123FG 16-32 3's 28-51FT 65RB 24A 6B 19St 27F 31TO 175PT
My for what it's worth analysis. Improvement is obvious. But as he has taken on more scoring he has gotten careless and turned it over significantly more.
I did this little (time consuming!) activity because I wanted to see if the improvements that he's seemingly made were backed up by numbers. I think so. He's a phenomenal player that has exceeded expectations on my part and we look forward to the results from the last 13 games of the season.
@HawkInMizery we'd be interested in seeing that article!
@jaybate-1.0 They actually have some talent, top 50 type kids like Brandon Sampson and Antonio Blakeny. They've got a big numbers guy in a JC transfer named Duop. They should be better than they are. But they beat Missouri handily, so how bad are they, not that we care or anything.
I would never disagree with a such a learned basketball mind as yours @HighEliteMajor, but couldn't one say this year that he absolutely had no choice but to adapt? Lucas being the only proven inside threat, marginal at that, and then some question mark interior players. Doke, Bragg, Coleby and Lightfoot have not panned out due to various reasons. We can all thank our lucky socks or whatever we wear for good luck charms that Lucas has been steady enough. But really he had no choice but to scrap the hi-lo this year. I know it started last year somewhat, but this year. Gee, no choice?
@kjayhawks I don't live anywhere near the Valley so I don't really pay attention. I really had no clue WSU was doing anything until I saw Marshall getting mention for COY.
As for Few, I hear ya @mayjay but I just don't get too impressed with that schedule.
We had a lot of steals as well. I just got finished watching as I had some other things to do today. Kind of reminded me of WVU. Slept walked through much of it, not quite as badly as Monday night. It was one of those the only real satisfaction was the final result type of games. Was kind of ugly, we barely led ever during the game. Game winning points come off of FT's by Lucas. That foul thankfully was called but when it happened I thought they were going to call a jump instead but replay showed verticality was violated and Lucas made them pay.
@Crimsonorblue22 I was thinking he had happy feet for sure. I never cared enough to go back and slow it down to see, but you're right.
@BeddieKU23 I, as you probably know, watch a lot of Big10 ball. He's a beast. Not sure if he's more beastly than Frank though, but I can see him getting some votes. Interestingly, when the kid was 13 he was 6'3" and 360 pounds. Someone spoke some confidence into him and whipped him into shape.
After todays win, we're going to lose to Wichita State?
I think this may be his best coaching job besides 2012. Playing with 6.5 players, handling some tough road games that normally give us problems. I don't know, when you look at the names on this list, while some are deserving I suppose, some, I say, if Jay Wright is on that list (east coast media anyone?) well, what he has done is no more impressive than Bill Self I'd say. Maybe since Bill deservingly won it last year you can't give it to a guy two years in a row.
Sean Miller? Really?
The guy at Gonzaga? Give me a break. When they lose in the 2nd round of the dance again we'll know about them.
Other names have me laughing out loud. Gregg Marshall! Hilarious! He deserves coach of the year mentions?
I don't mind Chris Collins name on the list. NU looks like they're dancing for the first time.
Scott Drew, I'll grudgingly admit he's deserving of some votes.
I guess Bill Self is too good to be considered the coach of the year. That's the curse of winning a lot of games every year. No one ever says wow, look at what Kansas is doing.
I'll have to watch for your sign!
My comeback diary enabled me to know the answer.
Here's another: How many shots did WVU attempt in the last 2:45?
@JayHawkFanToo JNewell retweeted it. I think whoever wrote the tweet, and I tend to agree, was making a satirical comment on a silly decibels record.

Kansas announced as the loudest crowd by Guinness world record guy. That mark will stand until he's invited to another game.
I decided to hit record the other night near the end to keep this comeback for posterity on my DVR. At 10:00 I had switched the channel momentarily to record the local news, then switched back to the game.
Tonight on the way home I listened to JNew's podcast about the game and so I was inspired to come home and watch the comeback. When I started it, it was at 2:43, showing fans leaving, DickyV yelling at them, and Frank at the line. I got the only 7:43 of that game that I'd ever want to watch again!
@JayHawkFanToo Someone tweeted on JNews live update during the game that we set the record until the guinness book guy visits his next arena!
@Texas-Hawk-10 But LSU does have pro competition, technically in state KU doesn't! I know it's just a silly argument but I was really mentioning it because there's a lot of sports snobbery to go around!
Down here in the bayou I had an 'argument' with a friend who went to LSU. I think it was our Final four year 2012. I mentioned how big KU basketball was. He said it wasn't as big as LSU football. I said, in trying to be a peacable guy, that in fact, the two were equal. I knew in my mind that actually KU hoops was a bigger deal in Kansas than LSU football in Louisiana, but I didn't want to be a snob.
He said when LSU plays, everyone in the whole state pays attention. Same in Kansas when we play.
He said that LSU has a great tradition. They can't match KU's!
He said LSU fans are more fanatical. I don't know how to quantify that.
I told him we're the only game in the state. LSU has competition from New Orleans pro teams, DI programs in both sports. KU has pretty much zero competition except of course our KSU and WSU friends.
Bottom line is we've got it very special, we probably are a little snobby about it.
@JayHawkFanToo At least OSU has won a few games to back it up!
@mayjay Well, I did know about that one, but like Michigans football championships from that era, it's a little difficult to bask in the afterglow of a championship from 23 years before I was born!
@mayjay Yes! But other than hockey, soccer and cross country, not much glorious sports history there either.
@mayjay I saw where Harbaugh copied Larry Brown and hired the father of a stud QB to be one of his coaches hoping the stud QB will come to Michigan.
You're right about Michigan. They have a snobbery that is rarely matched in college sports. They think they're god's gift to college athletics. They go on and on about their football team which I think has won one national championship since 1947. Their basketball team had the significant win in 1989 and that's it. Not too much to hang their hat on there.
@HighEliteMajor Kind of interesting to go to that link from 2013 and see some of our names there commenting on the comebacks article. We had some good commenters over there that didn't come here with us unfortunately.
@kjayhawks Dakich been tweeting poorly as well. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/tom-izzo-lashes-out-at-espn-analyst-for-unprofessional-tweets-074555174.html ↗
What is the point in a game where we say, ok, let's beat the traffic? Nothing wrong with that kind of thinking, but I know if I was at that game I'm probably holding out hope at 14 down just under 3 minutes. Just under 2? Well, I'm probably walking slowly towards the door. Now if the team has given up, not fouling or whatever, then boom, I'm gone.
Some of this question depends on whether it's my only KU game of the year, or in my case, the decade. Then I'll probably stick it out to the bitter end. When I'm in Austin next weekend, I'm sticking to the end. I've seen the Jayhawks in person once since 1988 when I graduated.
Ranking this comeback in my own mind, well Memphis game is #1. That's easy for me. It was just as improbable, but much more important. I'll take this over the Missouri game. This is partially because one of my old students got married that afternoon and invited me, so I missed that whopper of a game. Maybe if I'd watched the Missouri comeback I'd place it above this.
Not sure how this one rates with KU comebacks in school history. Most of us weren't around in the first half of the last century and therefore, have no memory of comebacks from that era. Surely we had some whoppers then too.
@DanR That baseline play I was very nervous that it would go to replay. I have it recorded, haven't watched yet, not sure they showed anything on the telecast that was conclusive anyways.
2nd link doesn't work for me.

To further break it down
3-5 3 pointers 2 by Graham, 1 by Mason 9 points
8-8 FT's 8 points
2-3 on layups 4 points
2 turnovers
3 offensive RB's, 1 defensive.
WVU 3 turnovers,
WVU 0-1 FG's. That's all they attempted, this according to the data above. And the 1 shot? Their desperation heave at the end of regulation.
WVU 7 FT's
Interesting stuff. Of course we had to foul them, but they really made it tough on themselves by not taking more than 1 shot down the stretch.
This list just ends regulation. I didn't break down OT.
I don't recommend this as a winning formula, but it sure was fun while it lasted.
If the fans wanted to leave early so what. They're big bucks donors a lot of them I suppose and who the heck cares? They missed a memorable game but ban them from the field house? What is this, North Korea?
@HawkChamp Huh?
Some hillbilly's gonna get that boy when he gets home.
POY up to his season average of 20 points
I wonder if they'll notice the clock ran about 10 seconds after the last whistle?
Storm the court?
Glad I didn't get an early start on my beauty rest.

We're gonna lose by missing a bunny at the rim.....smiley face
@Bwag And I predicted it in my mind. "watch us turn it over" I thought. I should go on TV or something!
@HawkChamp Tough enough to win in Ames, Manhattan, and Lexington this year. Several of those with basically 6 guys. We're plenty tough, not sure what you're talking about.
JNew is saying we're 3-15 on layups
@DanR But the fat guy is warming up...
@DCHawker said:
Vick has as many points as Frank, DG and Svi combined....
Incredible that we're even in this then.
@kjayhawks I was about to say basically the same thing. When was the last time we get swept in a season series? It's looking very possible tonight.
JJ shooting step back 3's is not going to win this game for us especially when there's plenty of room to drive.
@drgnslayr Text the coach!
That young man is fast.
