Lets go defense, nothing stupid here.
18 plays, 9 minutes, 85 yard drive.
Too bad Hishaw slipped on that run.
He slides, dude jumps on him anyways, no flag.
Roughing the passer?
Doesn't help when officials don't call PI.
As frustrating as this is, it's a good time to remind everyone that KState has never won a Natty except in cow judging and manure shoveling.
Gamblers influencing Daniels and others. Only plausible explanation.
@rockchalkjayhawk We're never supposed to win a football game which makes it far less painful when we do.
My only guess is our guys are gambling on the outcome and throwing this game on purpose.
They can't stop us.
How bout that Patterson kid? Or is it Peterson?
Ooops
KU violates the rules of football too often.
Dang it Jalen, ball security. This could get overturned
@Crimsonorblue22 He just recovered the fumble. Apparently he's back.
Jermaine Dye's son. World series MVP, 2005, Chicago White Sox!
Well that's a nice start!
Was at a soccer match. Found the radio feed through the varsity app, 2nd half just started. I knew nothing about the first half and then I heard Gurley say DP got 24 in the first half and I about drove off the road in my excitement. Gonna have to watch sometime this weekend to see how he did that. Might skip the 2nd half as I listened to a foul fest.
Kelvin Sampson said KU is the bellweather for the BIG12. The league needs KU to be good at basketball.
@kjayhawks You said his ceiling is 7 wins. Season before last he won 8. What changed? Not sure how you can say ceiling is 7 when we just won 8.
Locked on Jayhawks podcast today said it is the biggest in his tenure at KU. He's winless in rivalry games with KSU and misery. That's a major legacy mark against him. A win will also set us up for another bowl berth with a winnable game (or 2?) on the horizon. The podcast didn't downplay big games he's won, like the OU game, the bowl game, etc, but the chance to end the long streak would be huge and impact future recruiting as well.
Lance has been close two years in a row. His old bugaboo of not knowing how to close out a win seemingly has bit us in those games more than others.
Hey Christian, we know you read the Bucket, how about a nice donation to the NIL fund!
We wouldn't have made the NCAA tournament without Hunter last year I think.
I loved Late Night in 1987 when the team sang Kansas City Here I Come, and then went to KC in early April 1988.
fickle implies some good, some bad, there's not been much good at all!
@kjayhawks Badger fans are pissed, including me. Funny thing is when they hired him I told the message board folks that it was a bad hire. Didn't quite predict this bad, but he did lose his starting QB early in the season. The talk about the program is Fickell is a bad NIL era coach as talent has left by the bus full for greener pastures in recent seasons. He hasn't mastered it very well it seems.
@nuleafjhawk Yeah, I've heard Iceland is nice. But I want summer warmth on my trip and the Alps promises some of that! Plus there's less risk in being blown up by a volcano.
@nuleafjhawk I am retiring next June. I've never travelled anywhere except here in the states and have always wanted to see the Alps. I want to see if they're as spectacular as Mt. Sunflower, the highest point in Kansas, or even as spectacular as Mt. Oread (doubtful).
@Crimsonorblue22 Yeah, that's a possibility.
Swiss knife gate has got me thinking for a thread that might be helpful to us. We are planning to go to Switzerland next summer. We have no clue how to get there, what to do when we get there, where to stay when we get there, how to get around when we get there. Where did you fly into? Do we hire a guide to get us up into the Alps? I want to see the Matterhorn. What's the best time to be there? Do I have to wear Liederhosen? :) I'm an open water swimmer and would love to knock off a lake or two in the area. Should I learn to yodel? Airbnb or hotel? Great train rides/excursions?
Obviously I can figure some stuff out on my own to answer these questions, but am really curious about experiences you've had if you've been there. I appreciate it.
If the knife is Swiss it will probably be deported now.
@kjayhawks Oh I agree, India is usually really good in cricket, and badmitten so I'm not looking forward to our games with them.
Until our defense shows up for a game I am amending my prediction to whatever losing record they're going to finish with. I do still think we beat Okie Lite, and I think Arizona is a tossup, so a 6-6 finish is still possible. Utah looks inconsistent so not sure how they'll go.
Ngala, Dawson, Allen, White, Calderon, Rosario, Evers, Council, Thengvall, Cross, Mbiya, Tiller
Bidunga, Peterson, Jackson, McDowell
Two lists of names. I had to look up the names of the guys on the first list to see who was on the team this year. Couldn't have named any of them. 2nd list I knew.
Conclusion: I hate college basketball and what it's become. I hate the NCAA for letting it become this. I have zero clue how this team is gonna be because I've seen three of them play basketball. That's it.
Here's what else I hate: ACC Network, ESPN+, ESPN, TNT, (TruTV, HBOMax(?)) ESPN2, ESPN+, Peacock, Fox, FS1, ABC, CBS. Those are channels you'll need to have if you want to see every game this year. Peacock is horrible for sports. Can't pause, rewind live games. Can't start game from beginning if you miss the beginning, got to wait like hours to watch replay. ESPN+ works relatively well compared to them. But everything else is viewable through most cable/dish packages. Only have a digital antenna? Well 6 or 7 games will be over the air, all during the conference season.
But glad the season is upon us despite my grumpiness.
This season can't be as bad as the last can it? Lots of question marks but if the top recruit in the country plays like it we'll win some games.
@kjayhawks It's interesting because we write the same thing on each of his seasons it seems. Our losses are not bad losses, this week excluded. Our losses are close games which the fatal flaw is the struggle to make the play in the last 2-3 minutes of games. 2 of 3 losses this year fit the category. So many what iffs last year. I forget the "Bean Year" where we had fewer losses which games were close calls hinging on mistakes in crunch time but I know there were several.
Well our defense gave us some moments but Tech figured it out with a backup QB. Lance has to figure this out because we have an offense that wins us lots of games.
Oh what was that play call? Awful
@kjayhawks I'm not the smartest football mind but the TD's came off of opening up the offense.
Again Hanni mentioned the 3rd and 1 call but the TE just stepped out of bounds instead of Walter payton like plowing forward to get that first down.
That receiver's got to fight for the first down. On him that we're punting now.
Jayhawks +21 in the 3rd quarter this year.
@Crimsonorblue22 Who was on Hawk Talk?
Wow, we have a kicker!! He's perfect on the year. What a boot!
Jaden is 16-19 for 164 yards or something like that. He's a nice QB for our team. Here's hoping Marshall will live up to his hype and keep this excellent QB play going forward.
That penalty was hurtful.
Had a nice dinner but glad I kept watching.
