Late December football is better than the alternative! There's literally only 3 basketball games today in NCAA. Looks like the game on now is going to end on time so we're not gonna have to ESPNews it to start!
I'm predicting a rousing KU victory by about 24 points. Trick plays galore, big plays, turnovers, announcers gushing about Lance and I guess the UNLV coach. They'll somehow work several KU hoops references in there.

This has been my contention. IF you tell someone it's ok for them to sit out because you might get hurt, well, unless you're a playoff team, why not sit out way back in October? 'Can't make the playoff anyways so these are meaningless games TO ME.'
This never used to happen. Only in recent years have players decided to screw their teammates over and their fans by sitting out games.
@dylans I get your point, but a month ago I started looking at my monthly costs and not only was it ESPN+ but others as well and it was adding up to 50 bucks or so. I was also adding a monthly expense at the same time that I need so I needed to cut out some stuff. I did throw a 'first world problem' disclaimer in there!
Some stats I was looking at. We're shooting 38% from 3. Good for 25th nationally which is really higher than expectations. I recall offseason discussions of how bad this team will be at shooting the 3.
We're also top 25 in shooting percentage, 8th at 51%. I think it tells me we take good 3's only. Because if we're shooting this well inside the arc coach would say why jack them up from outside unless it's a good look. I did notice that we have one of the lowest rates of shooting 3's at 17 per game which is 324th nationally.
Our FG% defense is elite so far at #15 nationally, giving up 37%. Not sure which Self likes better, great defense % or great shooting %? But having both working this year shows how well this team is doing.
FT percentage, something I always believe should be near the top for a program like ours, is pedestrian at 72%.
Our worst stat is offensive rebounding grabbing only 8 per game. Of course when you make a lot of shots there's fewer opportunities. On the other had we're rebounding at a top 15 level.
Assist to TO is elite as well, 13th. Much has been made about our high number of assists, we're 2nd currently, trailing BYU who laughably is 3rd in the NET currently and their 25oth ranked schedule, which is slightly better than 5th ranked ISU in the NET and their 288th ranked schedule.
Speaking of schedules, we're fairly pedestrian at 51 strength of schedule. It will rise after the Wichita game when we begin conference game. I still don't understand how a 12-1 record with a 51 SOS gets you ranked 16th in the NET when BYU with a 250 SOS and a similar record to ours gets you a 3rd rank. They have 1 quad 1 victory.
Still some question marks with this team, but these stats are showing we're doing a lot of things very well.
Upcoming games. I noticed after TCU, 3 of the next 4 are are on ESPN+. Grrr. A quick check of Dukes schedule reveals no games on ESPN+. They do have the ACC Network. One of our ESPN+ games is a (as currently ranked) #2 KU Vs. #12 Oklahoma. This is definitely a first world problem, but it aggravates me.
Merry 60 degree Christmas from Chicago! I actually don't like it, I'd rather it be 10 with a foot of snow and be out cross country skiing right now. But I do like our community here. Remarkably peaceful and agreeable in the age of internet arguments over the finest minutae. Greg Maddux or Tom Seaver I saw on twitter. People getting all bent out of shape over someones opinion that Tom was better (he was) or Greg was better (he was).

Joliet is a tough little town. I was talking to someone who taught there and attended there and he said his little bro is just as good. Of course the greatest Chicago movie started in Joliet, The Blues Brothers. I will be driving to church this morning past the drawbridge, the church where Jake saw the light and the ballroom, now called the Southshore Cultural Center.
@Texas-Hawk-10 Been out all day for family matters and just got home, looked at ESPN for scores and saw that. Shocker, but of course I'm still trying to get used to the idea of them being a national power in basketball. In a strange kind of way this validates their run to the FF last year.

TTech lost Terrance Shannon and Kev to the portal seemingly 4 years ago and they're both probably all Americans this year. That's a lot of talent to let walk, but all the disfunction there maybe these guys saw the handwriting on the wall.

It's been fun as we work into our 60's and have some extra that we are able to give our millenial kids generous Christmas checks. They appreciate it a lot of course.
As a kid I eyed the large box under the tree that was the electric football game that I was just dying to get. I opened it up and, uh, that doesn't look like a football game. It's a train set. Can't even remember the gauge, but it's still in a box in the basement somewhere 50 years later. If it had been that dumb football game it'd have been tossed in the trash within years!
Watching Bulls Spurs tonight and this Spurs team is awful and DG is just sitting on the bench never getting any playing time. Not sure what happened to him, but if he can't find the floor on this Spurs team it probably means his NBA days are over.

Speaking of things arriving late, I had a serious girlfriend at KU who was always late. Big pet peeve of mine and not wanting to subject myself to waiting for her my whole life I dumped her. I married a very punctual woman and we've never been late for anything in 33 years!

Embiid 51 points tonight. He's making 89% of his FTs this year, 17 of 18 tonight. He combined with former Jayhawks Oubre and Morris for 63 points!
Good slate of games tonight. OU/UNC, of course the Baylor game, Nova/Creighton, Bama/Zona, Northwestern/AzState.

@wissox Indiana has bricked a lot of Fts and still could lose because of it. They're 16-28. Even though Indy losing this hurts our strength of schedule and all that I think it'd be hilarious to see them lose to a team that's never beat a BIG team.
@wissox I hate watching foul mismatches like this. It just seems obvious that refs in situations like this will call it one way. We get some like that too at AFH of course, but it's kind of unfair to watch a team just get screwed over by the zebras. 25-12 foul count right now.
Wow is Morehead State better than us? They've led IU nearly all game by 10 or so, despite IU receiving a generous whistle all night. In the short time I've typed this IU has cut it down to 2 aided of course by and an 1 that was suspicious.
@BeddieKU23 We talked to fans who complained about those seats. Said balcony seats are way better. Badger football has something similar, could see the field ok, it was just missing out seeing the scoreboard/band/etc that was annoying.
Walk ons contribute to programs too and a very young former Badger Walt McGrory just passed today also from a brain tumor. 24 years old.
It really doesn't matter but in a week in which #1 loses to #3 and #2 wins in a tough road environment and the mediocre team that #3 lost to earlier lost to Chicago State and #3 moves up to #1 over #2 well I feel a little tiny bit bad for #2, but I know I shouldn't because in my mind we'll always be #1.
