The whole last two minutes thing bothers me. While maybe not as crucial to the outcome, plays earlier in a game can have major impacts on a game and should be treated with just as much scrutiny. How many runs have been ended when an offensive foul or block is called? As crazy as it sounds, Villanova got a call against Oklahoma half way through the first half that had me thinking the whole east coast bias thing had influenced that game. I forget the details, but OU never recovered obviously. It was a momentum switcher I remember at the time.
So why do they think that calls in the last two minutes are more important? They've been doing that for replays for several years now on OOBounds calls. Why just the last two? I say don't do replay at all, but if you do, why not review the last play shown above when the dude travelled against us? That's just as crucial as a block/charge call. We'd have won that game if the travel had been called. I just say leave the replays out. Let us watch the replays and make up our own minds about fixes, east coast bias, about how stupid some of our least favorite refs are, etc.
If they can't even see a Duke player touch a ball going out of bounds with 1:30 in a national championship game how are they going to decide on a block/charge call which is, in my opinion, the most subjective rule in basketball?
@wrwlumpy The old pick up your dribble at the line 20 feet away from the basket and score on a layup play! I'm still pissed about it!
@Crimsonorblue22 I figured. I have no expertise on it. It'll just fade away into cyberspace some day I assume!
We should do a thread where Seinfeld lines mix with Jayhawk basketball!
@ParisHawk On Newell's podcast he said there's probably 7 or 8 teams better than the Big12's 2nd place team.
So is this a fill in the blank post?
@Kcmatt7 Was that a Seinfeld line?
That's better than my lame attempt!
Post was written with tongue firmly planted in cheek. But things get written that people think are serious when they're obviously to everyone else and then they say stupid things.
Original post now edited.
I remember when I used to have a body like that.
Too many times we think someone is serious when they're not, or not serious when they are. It's very embarrassing and leads to basketball insults like "you're not a real Jayhawk fan" or "go away troll" or "you've never watched basketball in your life, haven't you?" Sometimes it's even worse than this and people tell someone they might as well go and live in Methsoury or Kensucky.
Well in the spirit of peace on earth or peace on KUBuckets, I propose a system that will help us avoid such tension rising posts.
If you're writing something that is just a joke and not to be taken seriously, then simply write FU which stands for funny of course.
For example, you're trying to make a point using humor and you write: "Why don't we just go ahead and shoot all 3's this year, no more 2's, just 3's?" FU People will smile with emoji's and emoticons and will have a good chuckle that will get at least 1 thumbs up, but probably more. They'll know you really don't mean we literally should shoot all threes.
Let's try another. "Bill Self will become the coach at Duke"FU See? No one challenges their lunacy because they know you're joking. Simple.
If you're being serious so we know, just write IFR which stands for I'mForReal. Here's an example. "The Jayhawks will win the National Championship this year"IFR
I like it. Uke did some Cleveland baseball in that baseball movie with his famous line Just a bit outside. I imagine he has done some series games, he used to be a regular on national broadcasts. i still enjoy listening to him in the summer doing Brewers games.
How about Geno Auriemma for Duke? I'd be really curious to see how he'd do on the men's side.
Fox sports, the purported flagship network of MLB hasn't shown a live baseball game in over a month. We had the preposterous proposition Saturday night of my elderly mother complaining to me she can't find the Cubs game on TV because Fox thought a college football game between two also-rans (what a classic game though!) was more watchable than a NLCS game in which one of the teams would accomplish something that last occurred in the aftermath of WW2. I had to explain to her how to find FS1 which she finally did, but....
I loathe Fox and everything they stand for because of the way they treat my favorite sport. I detest the commissioner present and past who didn't have the kahones to stand up to Fox and ESPN and say give us the best coverage you can. They have failed to make real measures to shorten the games which is one reason why Fox decided to stop televising most games. Selig and Maness, you're ruining the game. Someone save it!
Imagine all of the 'free the trae' comments we'd have on the message boards.
The problem is I respect and admire Billy, but I don't admire Duke. I don't want to ever have any reason to like them even a little, and Billy would make me do that.
Billy D is the most underrated coach out there.
@wrwlumpy Fill me in. I'm not a twitterer. What's Kentucky's roll in this story? Or are you just highlighting Trae's rave about KU?
@Crimsonorblue22 Wedding is at two!
@brooksmd I've got a family wedding this weekend in Chicago. I will literally be the only non-Cub fan there!
Go Tribe!
What channel are they on?
Oh nice, ESPN just showed the long TD pass!
What's the score? I can't switch from the Badgers game since I'm syncing it with the radio.
@kjayhawks Time to revive the old Sheahan Zinger (or whatever his accursed name is) sucks posts!
@JayHawkFanToo This is a really silly argument but here goes. Since 2000 Indiana has been in one Final Four, Wisconsin 3. Indiana is a has been in the Big1G. They've stormed the court for beating Wisconsin! Sure they had a great history until about 1990 or so. Wisconsin has the 3rd or 4th longest NCAA tourney streak. Last 5 years no teams have made the Sweet 16 all five years besides UW. They draw 16,000 plus every game. Bo Ryan is the all time winningest percentage wise coach in the BIg1G. Again, it was just a silly argument based on @drgnslayr's facetious post so why can't I create my own superconference with whomever I'd like?
@Kcmatt, I typed that superconference up in about 5 minutes and probably overlooked Arizona. My argument against Indiana is above!
@Crimsonorblue22 I wanted a 2nd Big12 member, and well, it was hard to justify anyone to fill that 2nd slot. Seeing as they beat us nearly every year I put them in, but yes, you're right, they'll get kicked out of my superleague when they storm the court!
Heck, let's form the super conference. Make it like the premier league who if I understand correctly has a tiered system where if you succeed you stay in the league then you get to stay if not, you're booted to a mid major!
So in the new super conference. Duke, KU, UNC, Michigan State, UCLA (I know they've been lousy recently, but out of respect to John Wooden they're permanently in), Wisconsin, UConn, UK, ISU, Virginia (as long as Bennett is coach), Villanova, Louisville. Syracuse deserves to be here in UCLA's place, but we hate Syracuse, or sorry, I hate Syracuse, so there. Imagine the nightly thrill of playing that schedule! There'd be must watch games every night, and then we don't have any court stormings because it'd be banned in this league. Dukie V would be banned from all Duke games! In fact he will get fired if he mentions the name. Any school that has multiple OAD's will be forced to forfeit games.
That's a 12 team league.
The 2nd tier is everyone in todays major conferences, they can move up based on how well they do.
Todays lower echelons of college hoops, your SWAC's and Horizon's and WAC's and all of the SEC besides Kentucky, can move up with upsets of 1,2,3,4 seeds in the dance.
I'm really liking this idea, Ima gonna send it in.
Keegan looked back at that game with Florida and discovered 12 future NBA players in it. Amazing!

@kjayhawks Fun to watch and remember. Chalmers was great down the stretch in that game. He remains one of my favorite Jayhawks.
@Crimsonorblue22 I sent him a private message about that but apparently it did no good.
@KUSTEVE Oh I'm a Doubting Thomas type believer. Show me the nail holes in the hand and I'll believe. I'm a fanatic, but not a blind fanatic. So if Josh Jackson is what most people think he'll be, then sure, I'll believe. You really can't begrudge me because I want to see results first, can you?
Last year was a very special team which got KO'd by the national champs. We were top ranked half of the season, were the most talked about team all season. It's kind of tough to top last season right now, unless of course we play on the final weekend, are highly ranked all year, etc. This time you've put words in my mouth, because I'll send you a Cajun food gift pack if you can find where I wrote I don't believe we'll be as good as last year. We can be mind you, but let's see how it plays out.
I still can't get over that they ignore our game with Florida. They were the defending national champs and would win again. They had to be top ranked or near it. We were a very good elite 8 team that if memory serves got Darren Collisoned out of that round. I believe we were top 5 at worst. It was an epic two point game in Vegas. It was one of Bill Self's best wins at KU.
I've been disappointed with too many of our OADs. So I just need Josh to make me a believer. Last years team was very good. Losing Perry, Wayne, & BG (that was a joke) is a lot of points and toughness to replace. So I am just a wee bit less optimistic. I am still optimistic!
Must be regular season games only. I can think of a few March/April matchups that were just as good. I would put the KU/Florida game one of our best games, certainly over the USC game.
Mike Conley 26 million. Chandler Parsons 22 million, Nicolas Batum 20 million, Let those numbers sink in for a minute! I've not heard of Batum.
@Crimsonorblue22 Yes, like Baton Rouge. Come on coach, come to Baton Rouge to the so called deaf dome! Javonte Smart, stud junior here in town. Come to Baton Rouge!!

We all know we will playing in the toughest bracket
Here's the difference between me and many posters. I try not to, although I do fall into this thinking sometimes, but I try not to play the NCAA's against us card. I don't buy the tournament engineering theory too much. Maybe I'm naive. But you're right the point is how can we do better in the tourney. For that, I still maintain we go on the road a couple more times, preferably here to Baton Rouge!
I'm not sold on Svi leaving after year. I think he's got a lot to prove this year and if he doesn't he'll be back.
@Crimsonorblue22 They surprised me for sure. And what they did to Oklahoma? Wow. That was the biggest beatdown in the final four since we smacked UNC in 08 and Marquette in 03.
@Crimsonorblue22 Seeding stunk or we lost to a hot team because you can't have both. I was glad when I saw Villanova on the bracket. They usually suck in the tourney. I thought we'd had a pretty easy path to the FF.
You nailed it on Hayes. Maybe the presence of Kaminsky and Dekker helped him do his thing because last year he was not as good as expected. I'm glad he came back because I'm not sold on his pro stock yet.
Overall, I think the Big1G is down this year.
I enjoy Dicky V. He loves KU as well folks. Just gushes on and on about us when he does our games.
As much as I despise the Cubs, the playoff format hurts the deepest team in baseball, a team that cleared the rest of baseball by an amazing 8 games! Rest every few games means the Dodgers will be able to use Kershaw 3 times if it goes 7 games masking the lack of starting pitching depth in that squad. Meanwhile a five deep starting corp for the Cubs means only several of them pitch more than once in a 7 game series.
There's lots of things I don't like about MLB these days and switching from the day to day of the regular season to a postseason with many built in days off is one of them.
Of course he's got a few hits and misses. I really wouldn't be surprised to see my second love Badgers back in the Final Four. They got screwed by east coast refs against ND in the tourney last year narrowly missing out on the elite8. And they lost no one from that team. They're going to be very good especially since they're adding a couple of redshirts who have seasoned with the team. MSU, too high. Agree on Kentucky too. Oregon has really good coaching and could earn a 1 seed. One mag I saw had them #1 even.
And speaking of Wilt, since this isn't worth a new topic. Some NHL player scored 4 goals in his debut the other night. The sports talk guy I was listening to compared his performance with other amazing first game performances.
Wilt's topped the cake. 43 points and 28 rebounds! First game as a pro. The man was a freak!
@ZIG I mentioned it for UNC because I screwed up. It doesn't change my basic theory that they have 3 real road games, plus the Indiana game.
@jaybate-1.0 I live for PHOF's. I figured you'd see beak to beak on this one and award it to me! Greed might be the key word in all of this. I don't think teams like ours gain much at all by playing cupcakes. The only cupcake I don't mind is the first game of the tourney when we play a cupcake unless their name begins with B.
@kjayhawks. I tried to leave those out of the true road games category because they're 'forced' on us by some TV network. For money.
@REHawk If what you say is true, then depth is a problem with us. Other than the Wiggins year when we lost Joel, were injuries a problem other than the usual bumps and bruises? I mean every team gets those. And last year we were not injured come tourney time @Crimsonorblue22 were we?
I personally don't see a problem with guys playing 34-35 minutes a game. They're young, energetic, elite athletes. I watched with pride my freshman in HS daughter play a full varsity soccer match 80 minutes, no TO's, no subbing, then stay on the field for 60 more minutes in the JV match. 140 minutes in one night! Wilt famously played one NBA season for all but five minutes of one game. Never fouled out, never was subbed in for. If an elite athlete can't handle two 40 minute games in one week for 4-5 months out of the year then, well, they're not elite.
@JayHawkFanToo so part of our scheduling is done to get money. I understand that we have to have money. Scheduling for rpi I get kind of. Are we scheduling so we are best prepared for March? Maybe but maybe not. Our March results say to me that we aren't ready for the tourney especially in relation to our seed.
