The answer is Frank Mason 3
KU did play 2-3 zone quite a bit in H1 and early part of H2

I concur with your assessment. Wigs is athletic freak but Josh is more powerful, if you know what I mean.
Kraken, I just don't see KU getting more than couple OADs in a single season and I'm Ok with it.
Big 12 does not have a fast/athletic/talented team like UK needing zone D to slow it down. Self started the game with M2M but very quickly realized that KU cant keep up running M2M with this UK team and switched to zone and it worked perfectly.
@JayHawkFanToo You raise a valid point. The OAD topic has been discussed here for a long time. I know that all coaches including Self try to land maximum number of top tier talented kids. Now it could be that Self has realized and is content with having just one or two OADS, blending in experience with OADS.
So I was watching the game with my 14 yr. old son and if I remember correctly, with about 48 seconds left and UK down by 8 points, one could see UK fans leaving the arena. You could see rows after rows of folks leaving.
I mean their Star Big was on the line for two FTs to make it a two possession game but many UK fans did not care. I bet one will never see such reaction by KU fans.
My son was shocked and made a comment that it is embarrassing for fans of a program with most wins to leave on an ESPN Game Day event with so much time left in the game. I mean UK players were playing hard and it was still a close game. Any thoughts?
I would not mind a loss today and even a few in Big 12 as long as team stays healthy and can develop some chemistry heading into March.
This suspension does not sound good. The timing is very fishy.
As @jaybate-1.0 says March Madness is Extreme Muscle Madness now a days, no way a team can survive with 5-6 players.
Terrible tragedy. May he Rest In Peace.
@JayHawkFanToo Not really. If a starting guard goes down, Vick becomes a starter and then the option is Tyler Self. Can he handle Vick's minutes? That was my point.
@JayHawkFanToo One difference this year is that we are primarily playing 4 guard line up and all 4 guards are playing high number of minutes. So if one goes down KU will be in bigger trouble as there is not an adequate guard back up to fill in for that many minutes. In that scenario Self will be forced to rely more on traditional 3 guard line up IMO
Moose should be next
How critical is to get some PT from Colby & or Mitch?
Blessing in disguise, remain # 2 or in top 3/4 for next 4 weeks.
I had planned to come back to KU to see this game with my son. However, due to potential ice storm headed to KC area I had to cancel my trip, man I am bummed.
Its not a bad thing IMO, it will provide extra motivation to players & coaches.
@drgnslayr I have the same concern regarding extended minutes for Mason and Graham. They need more rest.
@justanotherfan I love our 4 guard line up and its extremely refreshing to see Self letting team take the 3s. My only concern is the extra wear & tear on our guards as this line up does not allow enough rest for Graham and Mason. Can they play 35+ minutes throughout the brutal B12 stretch and into March Madness.
I think we do need some extended PT from our traditional line up and for that to happen our Bigs have to step it up.
I donβt know what has clicked inside Frank
The answer is Andrea Hudy
That's tough. I was hoping Royals will be able to sign him. It will be interesting to see how DM now plan for DH position.
This is a neat article by Jesse.

@dylans Don't think HighEliteMajor hates Bill, only pointing out the repeated mistakes that has cost KU dearly. Self is a great coach no doubt. He can be elite if he becomes more adaptable & play to the strengths of his team.
The question should be asked as to why did the team play soft and why weren't they prepared to play. The blame must go on the coach, he did not do his job on this one, this is 3 years in a row he has failed in Morgantown but he will never acknowledge it. He will put the blame on the players.
@Crimsonorblue22 That was late in the season, even before the NCAA findings Cliff was riding the bench in most games.
This loss is not on Mason. It is on Self. He did not get his team come ready to play. But Self will never take the blame. He will put his players under the bus will never acknowledge his mistakes.
But will Bolden really choose Lawrence after seeing what happened to Alexander and now Diallo? When the NCAA was forcing Diallo to sit out, #FreeDiallo became a rallying cry for Kansas fans. It was held up on signs at every game and was all over social media. Now it's not the NCAA keeping Diallo out of games, but his own head coach.
The above statements from the article sums up the situation pretty well.
I can only hope that bad ball does not come back for the rest of this season.
@jaybate-1.0 Frank was out of it. This could be due to side distraction, he was expecting 25-30 family members to travel to see him play but they were stuck in snow storm and could not make it until late in first half. This should not be an excuse for the junior leader though.
Self must take some responsibility as this is a loss 3 years in a row, it appears that he is not doing a solid job in getting the team ready to play at WV.
@justanotherfan I am a firm believer in that cream will ultimately rise to the top
@Texas-Hawk-10 Good points. One also has to remember that BG had a major surgery & lost the entire summer. Plus he was suspended for 5 games so he is still behind & I expect his performance to improve as the season progresses.
Wiggins, he is a freak athlete and has not even come close to his potential. He is a multiple All Star player.
I have confidence in Moore & his staff in finding couple of good pitchers without breaking the bank.
Sources are reporting that Royals have signed Gordon to a 4 year $72M deal.
This is a great news.
HighEliteMajor, I agree 100%. It does appear that Mr. Keegan has written the article to get some brownie points with Self.
@justanotherfan Well said justanotherfan
@jaybate-1.0 Well said Sir.
I hope that this illness situation is nothing like Peters injury.
@Texas-Hawk-10 Oh Man, some harsh statements here
HighEliteMajor, Solid post, I had voiced the same concern after the win but you have done a far superior job in explaining the points.
VailHawk, While Traylor had a good game Self gave away the opportunity of providing valuable experience to more talented players, playing on the road before the conference season.
BG is the best shooter in KU uniform at least in in Self era
HighEliteMajor, This is music to my ears
HighEliteMajor, Nice discussion. I think overall Mickelson is a more skilled player, recall he had a record on blocks as a freshman at Arkansas. Withey on the other hand really developed his game over the course of his career @ KU. I will be honest with you in that in his first two seasons I never believed that he will have any significant impact at KU, he was raw, very light weight and got lost while on the court. In his junior year he got to score a lot simply as defenses were double teaming T-Rob. But in his senior year he really became a force & became a better offensive player.
@nwhawkfan The game was a bit ugly & got real tense in the end, Rivers converted two long 4th downs on the final drive, it came down to the final play where the D came through
After 1-5 start I thought that Andy Reid has lost control of this team and I was hoping that we could get to see what we have in Murray. But surely he has turned it around. He kept talking about getting ready for the next game by preparing for fundamentals & technique. Surely, Chiefs not only saved their season they are looking good for a spot in the playoffs.
I am impressed by change in the Chiefs culture. Unlike teams of past years this team did not give up and kept battling when faced with adversity. They kept battling, kept fighting. There were games which past teams would have never won but somehow this group of guys kept winning.
For this tremendous turnaround I salute Andy Reid.
@Texas-Hawk-10 Yup, Felix hit the buzzer beater but I was surprised how wide open he was to take the shot.
@ralster Ralster, Just don't be hateful towards the kid, he is one of us, a Jayhawk.
@ralster Kind of how EJ had shoved the guy in the gut against Michigan
HighEliteMajor, Yes that was extremely refreshing, fun and raises optimism for the future. I'd also mention what Jaybate1.0 has said about excessive minutes played by Mason, Devonte & Graham, 35+ each. This is not sustainable during the Big 12 grind while keeping in mind that PACE is the key this year. Thus Svi & BG have to step up & Self has to put greater trust on them. In addition I also feel that Vick should get more PT so that we have another PG ready for serviceable duty in case of an injury.
