@FarmerJayhawk Not too big on transfer QBs but in this case the guy that won the job there is really good so this guy might be okay.
Silvio fell on Dotson in practice. Just a fluke.
@KirkIsMyHinrich as stated by @rockchalkwyo no Moss tonight. Check the Walk-on thread and place your bet.

Ahahahahahahahahahahaha.

@BShark I hadn't that, good for him.
Last I saw over 90% of kids that applied for a waiver to play immediately received one.
Plays an unexpected amount tonight? With Dot and Moss both out we really only have one and a half (Braun is the half) guards available. I'm thinking as long as one of them is good enough we might see some extended minutes for one of the walk-ons.
I'd lean toward Elliott but really I think it could be any of the three.
Chad is just SURE he is going to win a Pulitzer.

Its interesting that Charlie Moore wasnt given the same treatment. His dad is actually sick, Grimes' dad thinks he's Jordan. A big difference there.
Moore will be able to play this year for Depaul.

Correct. No Moss or Dot tomorrow.

Self on the recruiting effect of the NCAA news: "Recruiting is hard regardless. When you're recruiting at an elite level, you've got obstacles every year. ... It's something we certainly explain out and are very transparent with what's going on. ... I would say it has definitely had an impact."
Self says he also thinks KU could have one of the better early signing periods the school has had "in a long time."
That last quote caught my attention...
Bryce Thompson is pretty good.
Braun is going to be a pleasant surprise over the course of his time in Lawrence imo.
FarmerJayhawk said:
Almost certainly precautionary.
Probably otherwise something would have leaked.
Had to have the dramatic thread title though. As an aside we would be completely screwed without him. From top 5 clear cut best team in the B12 to a very average team.
@Texas-Hawk-10 His Defensive Box Plus Minus is that of an average post player. Which is nuts. His was actually higher than Dedric and Dave. Tied with Doke. Dave and Doke obviously didn't play too much though.
Best DRTG of any KU guard last year as well. That is a team dependent stat but still, it just furthers the point.
I'm very hopeful for the overall defense of this years team. Saran wrap.
It's pretty clear that Grimes was not welcome back at KU.
I don't see the need to pile on the kid at this point. I hope he lights it up at Houston.

I don't think anyone will ever know what really happened that caused Grimes to underachieve to the degree that he did. I don't think you will find many coaches that would have expected him to underperform that much.
He checked every box, then somehow unchecked every box. I have never seen that before.
Very interested to see how he does at Houston where the conference is a step down athletically.
Guess we'll find out this year. Got his waiver.
The reason it was granted is hilarious to me. Mind you I don't think kids should be forced to sit out at all but a scholarship not being available because he said he was leaving is pretty silly.
Money is something to gain. If BMDs hated it they could have donated a lot to prevent it.
I'm all for it honestly.
Woodrow said:
Also, from everything I have seen and read KU fans are pretty much against this and Mizzou fans are over the moon about it. That should answer any questions about this.
Regular people don't matter for this, the BMDs matter. This is a long term move but I would say Long has some ass kissing to do when it comes to the pleb portion of the fanbase (which I am definitely in, to be clear).

Wild story. Long article. I vaguely remembered his name but forgot about him.

If Mizzou was still in the conference it might mean something. But the way it is now, it looks like a money grab, pure and simple.
Sure is. I can't fault them for it. Big bucks.
That is definitely the current smoke. I would expect a flood of UConn picks in the CB soon.
FarmerJayhawk said:
KK and Bryce are mutually exclusive.
I figured this was the case. We NEED another ball handling guard but I don't see getting two high level players at that spot.
Best case scenario is now...
1: Harris
1/2/3: Bryce, Garrett
2/3: Ochai, Braun, Tyon
Pretty versatile.
The thing about Javonte is next years roster doesn't need another big at all, it needs more actual ball handling capable guards.
5s: Dave, hopefully Silvio, Gethro
Undersized 5s: Mitch (assuming he takes a RS this year)
4s: Enaruna, Wilson
That's 6 deep in the post already (which means Gethro probably RS).

well saw where Meyer put a CB in for KK to Arkansas - - no real surprise - - -at least to me , I've thought all along Arkansas would be the one we would have our hands full on this with.
Not really sure if the little smoke we are now getting with Bryce would have anything to do with that or not.
Interesting they already signed a Top 100 PG in Davonte Davis.
Looks like Musselman (with shoeco help) is making a big move to lock down the top 4 in state kids.
I think there is a lot of reading into stuff going on here. Let's wait to see what happens with Bill and the penalties.
Though there is no doubt this is to stoke the fires of the fan base. It's clearly working.
LETS EFFIN GO.
@justanotherfan CBB is very much down.

I've emptied the bag my man!
To @BShark's point, the two biggest "recruits" left on the board are Silvio and Ochai. Harris, Thompson, Ochai, Silvio, McCormack is easily another top 5 team. Even if Silvio goes, we could go small (even though Enaruna is taller than Silvio?) with Wilson or Enaruna at the 4. Could also go the grad transfer route but that seems less likely.
Even if Silvio came back I like playing predominantly "small" with the roster and rotating Silvio and Dave at the 5. Makes it easier to find minutes for Garrett, Enaruna and Wilson. Lets you play your best guys more.
@FarmerJayhawk It sounds like Moss has the desire and is thrilled to be at KU.
Woodrow said:
@BShark From what I have seen today on Twitter it seems like UCONN is going to be the pick for him. One thing is for sure it is not going to be KU it appears.
Definitely not KU. With Dave being back, Silvio possibly being back, Mitch possibly taking a RS, landing Gethro and Enaruna/Wilson able to play the 4 I don't think KU will add another big.
Woodrow said:
Javonte Brown Ferguson is down to Texas A&M, UCONN, and KU. Will probably commit in the next couple of weeks. Not sure how much KU is in this one, but just passing it on.

In all fairness to grimes, he looked really good in the USA games. He was a highly recruited guard.π€·ββοΈ
Yeah everyone got it wrong. To be fair he can still become a good player. I think getting away from Bill is best for everyone. Boynton nailed it with his comments but the problem is Q is always going to have those people in his ear.
BeddieKU23 said:
Dug into Sports-reference for a minute. They have PER back until 2010.
Sure Enough the two lowest players in the Self Era to play 300+ minutes is Quentin & Charlie. Quentin's PER is 3+ points lower (8.7) then the next closet player Marcus Garrett 11.7 (17-19), Elijah Johnson 11.8 (12-13), Selden 11.9 (14-15), Selby 11.9 (14-15). Charlie's PER was 5.7, he should have never played.
Hopefully Garrett improves from his 11.7 & 12.8 over his first two years. If he's in the 14-15 range we have 7 guys that will make this team look good most nights. Moss was 14.0 last season, 15.7 as a Soph. Agbaji was 13, flashes and injury and he will be better. Udoka was a crazy 31.5 in limited games but was 28.9 in his only full season so we know what he's capable of. Silvio was 22 in his half season, solid. McCormack & Dotson were solid as freshman 19.5 & 17.
SO Selden was hurt and not great and still somehow quite better than Grimes.
BigBad said:
Grimes was a HUGE scouting fail. It was obvious early that he had really bad quickness and used his body in high school to an advantage. Once he was up against guys that could withstand his size he was useless.
And his circle thinks he is a PG!! More like a wing at best.
BeddieKU23 said:
I wonder if the analytics say as much as well. The eye test certainly said he was among the worst playing starter minutes. Charlie was the worst rotation player I've ever seen. Those two being gone help a lot
Charlie wasn't that much worse than Grimes. Grimes just played a lot more and when you factor in the family issues with Charlie..
And yes Grimes is EASILY the worst 27+ mpg player under Bill. Jamari's JR year was awful but at least that was only 20 mpg.
BigBad said:
Everyone talking about Doke as a rim protector. Thing is Dave and Silvio are not slackers in that department either. Our guards better be GREAT this year defending the 3 knowing they have rim protection behind them!
Strongly agree. Agbaji, Garrett and Dot were all plus defenders last year but the big problem was Dedric could be exploited.
The biggest upgrade might however Q's minutes from last year get distributed. He had to be the worst player ever to play big minutes under Bill.

Well Slater just CBβd Bryce to KU...

@BShark Thinking a team that has replaced Grimes with Moss, Dedric with De Sousa, and removed KJ and Charlie Moore from its bench is going to be the same defensively just seems lazy to me.
Hopefully a healthy Doke too.
I think we are top five. The season will bare that out.
