Not a bad thing to have to really dig down and evaluate talent. This latest kid is a good example and he comes from a high level juco program

This kid and Muscadin would be A+ additions given the circumstances.

2020 Recruiting • Sep 27, 2019 12:06 AM

Bill Self is a great evaluator of talent and is going back to WORK because he has to dig. Like I said before I'm oddly excited by this.

@jayballer73 both. #10 on 247 and #28 on the composite which averages all the services.

Punished for Duke. Par for the course.

What's the season looking like? • Sep 26, 2019 09:10 PM

The NCAA moves too slow for a post season ban this year imo.

We still have Tre White right 2022? We have a decent foundation to last a few years as long as there’s no transfers

Correct. Howard checked in on him just recently. He is still committed and still visiting for late night.

For next year's team, player retention is key. We could be looking at a large exodus though.

Yeah it's a shame that we might lose Ty Berry to the Big 10 ( Northwestern, Minnesota, Michigan ) this kid can really play , he will be playing in the league someday, mark my words..

I don't feel as strongly as you but it wouldn't surprise me if he is better than whoever we end up with. Recruiting is about to enter the stone age.

Yeah Mark Mitchell... Sorry

No big deal, I figured it out.

If KU does miss on him it won't be due to a lack of trying. He is a stud and the staff knows it.

In state talent that KU should go hard after now...
Ty Berry.. 2020.. Sunrise Christian
Tamar Bates..2021.. Piper high school
Grady Dick..2022... Wichita Collegiate
Mark Williams..2022.. Bishop Miege
All of these kids are high major D1 ballplayers, that are getting highly recruited, I will hate to see them get out of the state.

I think we can and should get Grady Dick unless it all goes FUBAR.

This year feels like a lost cause, I don't think we could get Ty Berry now.

Assuming you meant Mark Mitchell I don't think we can get him. Kentucky, UNC or straight to the pros IMO.

Got a SQUAD. Might be the last one for a few years so I'm going to enjoy it.

I said it before and I will say it again. We need to start recruiting local talent now! There are enough high caliber in state and local kids that are damn good and that are 3 and 4 year players that Bill can work with and develop, because we are not going to get the 5 star or even the 4 star players now

Honestly, anyone that wants to come at this point as long as they have some ability.

@BShark pretty sure Harris is a partial qualifier. In reading between the lines in Self's comments about him redshirting, “We are very excited to have Dajuan,” Self said. “He’s going to be in a limited capacity and this will give him the opportunities to focus on books, focus on getting stronger and put himself in the position to be a contributor right off the bat next year.”

As a PQ, he won't be able to practice until spring semester (hence why he wasn't at boot camp). So no dice on him having a chance to play this year.

Makes perfect sense. Thanks.

I believe he has to due to academics. @FarmerJayhawk can you confirm?

Not much out there about him right now. Might be a straight to pro candidate.

Memphis is the school to watch with Gethro. In other news, UK is out for Isaiah Todd. No spots left there. I think he ends up overseas since his options here are pretty dry for what he's... ummm... looking for in a school.

My hope would be that Memphis has better options.

Helluva place to be in recruiting right now but that's how it is.

Bowing to the ncaa gets you nothing.

Also I've been going over what I can find of the NOA...

This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone but it did confirm Larry Brown basically gift wrapped Silvio to KU (doesn't take a big leap to guess he gift wrapped Bruno to Maryland).

Yep...
Tell me something new ... other that the ncaa taking the “booster” route for Adidas. This will drag on an on. KU will throw an army of lawyers at the NCAA to see how much fight they have in them to take on an elite program.

Now comes the recruiting fun... Self said he was energized, well now he’s got his work cut out for him, and I think he relishes this. Much much less coddling and competing for OAD’s for a while, now he’s going to beat the bushes and get creative.

Time for some JUCOs and projects.

I like the response from Self, Long and KU in general a lot.

Odds are high, since he is still currently here after the last offseason. Unless the NCAA literally bans him which would be fought.

The only way LOIC can stick is with the football violations. I think it gets dropped on appeal. Long is assembling a UNC type group to fight this thing, and will to the bitter end.

The best thing to do is fight it. Give in and you end up like Missouri.

The AD is loaded for bear. This won’t be quick or painless for the jagoffs in Indy.

Full scale war if needed I say.

Now we all know why recruiting has been shit though. Oddly enough I'm kind of intrigued to see Bill with a ragtag squad.

Braun • Sep 23, 2019 05:26 PM

Might Braun play more than expected?

Braun has impressed coaches and teammates with hustle plays. “Tough” is the word everyone seems to use to describe him, which is a good way to earn minutes with Self. “Christian is probably the most prepared right now to do things that add to winning that you don’t see on a stat sheet,” Self says. “He’s unbelievable at stealing extra possessions.”

Devon • Sep 23, 2019 05:17 PM

Udoka on Dotson

“Last year everything he did was fast, fast,” Azubuike says. “This year he’s seeing the game in a different dimension.”

INTER-DIMENSIONAL POINT GUARD HERE FOLKS.

Maybe this will be the final wake up call.

What if I told you almost every player (think top 300) gets extra benefits to go to a school? Shoot, I even know guys who played D2 football who got cash on their visits.

Kstate players have nice cars due to their winning smile and hard work bro.

I don’t see how Harris would impact him. Self loves loves playing two PG types. It could be just as easy as he didn’t like it at KU. He may not have felt comfortable here. And that’s cool. If it’s competition, then he truly did us a favor by bailing now.

Self does like it but you know how some kids can get attached to playing a specific position. Not saying it is 100% the case but it could be a factor.

Mcride gone • Sep 21, 2019 08:49 PM

@BeddieKU23 I felt he had potential as well. As @justanotherfan has said before though, you need a baseline combo of skills and athleticism to make it at this level. Possible that he just wasn't athletic enough to where he could see much time. Either way he did not want to fight for it so maybe not a great fit to play for Bill. I will make a note of where he ends up. Ie Cunliffe to Evansville was pretty telling. The good news is that Harris appears to be a dude. Has the swagger as well.
