Best part of Gary's win was hearing the Rock Chalk chant as Gary was walking up the 18th fairway.
Hell yeah

@Crimsonorblue22 nah
@drgnslayr more interested in his masters than pro ball I would think.
OUCH
@jayballer73 Yeah, I will be interested to see how the class shakes out across the conference. KSU is higher than usual right now.
Les needs to get some wins on the field, then recruiting could really take off. :clap:
Remember under Bill taking a RS is mainly on the players. That's why we see so few in situations that aren't forced by transfer or partial qualifier status.
@jayballer73 I'm worried about if OU comes calling. The hope would be that he wants to play and not have to wait as long.

Does it matter? If Doke gets hurt just pull off the redshirt right? Is there much red tape there?
Nope. It's as simple as you can enter a game, and it burns the RS.

Not sure we will be able to hold onto this kid, but nice to get a verbal after losing the WR to Colorado.

He's a PSA Cardinal though, so it's pretty safe to say KU has no shot.
@HighEliteMajor That's what I was getting at with the age aspect. Older and wiser. I know there was a big difference for me between 18 and 23.

@AsadZ I guess Moss doesn’t count since he’s a grad transfer? Multi-year players are the ones that make the biggest difference IMHO. It takes years of playing in the system (and preferably together) to unlock the full potential of the offense.
Just look at the synergy Svi and Devonte had. :heart:
I think Moss is a good one year fit for the team. 23 yo OAD > 18 yo OADm

@Marco I think Braun can get about 10 minutes a game next year. Do think he will be pretty good as a JR/SR.
You think Braun can crack the top 8 in the rotation?
Self has historically gone with an 8 man rotation. Last season and '14-15 are the only two recent years Self has gone deeper and those were by far his youngest teams.
I don't see Braun cracking the rotation and I can even see Jalen Wilson not cracking the rotation when Self tightens it up for B12 play.
Dotson, Moss, Garrett, and Agbaji will all see good minutes in the back court. Doke, Silvio, and McCormack will see good minutes in the front court. Tge question becomes who gets that 8th spot in the rotation, the freshman Wilson or the senior Lightfoot?
I think we all know that answer based on what Self has shown that he values in the past and that's experience.
Christian Braun is probably 11th or 12th in the rotation and that spot doesn't get big minutes once Self trims the rotation.
This isn't me saying Braun can't play, but we also have to look at who's ahead of him in the rotation and all signs right now point to Braun being the 11th or 12th man in the rotation and that equals minimal minutes this season for him.
I was saying as a Sophomore or possibly Redshirt Freshman.
I think he redshirts or only gets walk-on minutes this year. I'm already in the mindset of thinking the upcoming season is the "current" season. Sorry for the confusion.
@Marco He's definitely got a toughness and attitude to him. I do love that about him.

@drgnslayr The 08 team was really a perfect storm. Guys just don't stay that long anymore when they are highly ranked most of the time. Exception for UNC and sometimes Duke lol.
Nothing new here sadly. :(

Self doesn’t like to redshirt freshmen.
The way I understand it is Bill leaves it completely up to the kid. And honestly after the Ochai situation last year he might become even more averse to RS. Never know when you might need a kid!
@nuleafjhawk puke
Expect Wilson and Enaruna to make pretty big SO jumps as well. Both can be special players on both ends.
@justanotherfan if Silvio and Och are back the 20-21 squad will be so damn good.

When was the last time Self had a redshirt senior that wasnt redshirted by another program? Maybe this becomes relevant again with 50-150 rated guys? But there isn't much of a precedent I don't think.
Brady, Releford, Jamari, Lucas.
Jamari was forced into it due to academics.
@approxinfinity Mitch and Garrett lol. Two beasts this year. Probably a bit unfair to Garrett, who I think is a better player than Mitch.
@truehawk93 No worries. I was wondering where the miscommunication was though, because it definitely felt like we weren't talking about the same thing.
Agree that Juwan is unproven and we will see if he can coach much. Jury is still out on Penny as well.
@truehawk93 Oh, yeah we were all talking about the KU AC Jerrance Howard. The subject of the KU fanbase giving him crap came up again.

Enaruna - 9
McBride - 8
Braun - RS
Bill can now warp time and space to get over 200 minutes a game.

Howard helped secure Q as well. Didn't work out but that was a big time signing.
And he was on Hampton right?
Correct.
@truehawk93 Enaruna just not a 5 year guy, so there isn't a point in RSing him. Always the chance that he transfers too, and not RSing makes that an easier option. There is a reason why we don't see too many guys RS under Self, especially recently. I think Braun is the perfect candidate. A KS kid that bleeds crimson and blue and was also recruited over twice in the same class after signing.
I don't think Enaruna is all that ready either. I have him around 6 minutes a game this year. I don't think he is two and done either. He's just not a 5 year guy. 5 year guys are rare, and typically lower level guys without much in the way of pro basketball aspirations. Redshirting simply doesn't make sense unless you are staying all five years. There is no point in redshirting one year and playing two. Just never redshirt and keep all three years available, even if playing just a few minutes a game it's better to have to option and get him experience when you can.
We aren't losing Dave. He will likely be the starting 5 as a JR.

Looks like Self and Howard dominated this recruitment. They locked in and got em
And people tried to criticize Howard AGAIN this offseason.
That dude is on the path to becoming a head coach, no doubt in my mind. I would guess he ends up a serious contender for the Depaul job the next time it opens up.
BUT HE MISSED ON SOME GUYS LIKE EVERYONE DOES. lol
He got Dave and Marcus too.
This year I know Roberts was on Enaruna. Don't remember who was on Braun and McBride but it probably could have been you or me...
He's not proven yet.
Howard? Sure he is.

The more I read and think, the more I think Enarauna and Braun should RS. I'm starting a campaign to RS those two.
Braun for sure. Enaruna wouldn't be here 5 years so no point. Enaruna is a guy we need to develop, I think Bill sneaks him out there when possible this year. Can grow into a beast.

Agbaji will start so that seems advisable!
Any of the guys I listed would likely start over McBride.
And we will see. Just as often as we have success stories we see guys get recruited over and not amount to much and/or leave.
I like McBride, I really do, but Self is always trying to recruit the best players possible.

Or listen to the whole thing, that's totally cool too, but that bit is relevant to the current NCAA scene. Grads and Yoda are real ones.
@justanotherfan gotta tag ya
@Marco Because Bill missed. He definitely tried. In 2016 he really only went after Fox at the PG spot.
@Crimsonorblue22 4D chess!
Marco said:
@BShark I wouldn't be so sure of that. Was Mason? Was Graham?
Um, in a word yes. Bill tried, he just couldn't sign the guys he wanted to.
In 2015 alone KU offered and seriously recruited Malik Newman, Jalen Brunson, Jalen Adams, Donovan Mitchell, Allonzo Trier, Justin Simon and Tyler Dorsey among others. Those are all PGs, being recruited when Mason and Graham were on the roster. 4 of them were 5* to boot.
@Crimsonorblue22 about what?

I can't really say that as all he was doing here was passing along information that he has been hearing
Nah he's a shill just like that THIS IS MARCH idiot whose name is escaping me. Aaron Torres isn't far behind either. Safe to say I'm not a fan of any of those three...
Dodd is a shill.
@Marco some targets
Guards: Adam Miller, Karim Mane, Daishen Nix, Bryce Thompson, Caleb Love
Posts: Josh Hall, Isaiah Todd
Couldn't tell you the exact order of priority but I am pretty sure KU would take any of them if they wanted to commit today.
I didn't bother with unrealistic targets like say...Dante or Greg Brown. Hopefully they both cut KU soon.
New targets will begin to appear as the season comes around. This time last year no members of the current four man class were even on the radar to my knowledge. Trying to recall...
McBride was a July find and the staff quickly liked him more than Jacobs.
Enaruna popped onto everyone's radar in November, wasn't even recruited before then.
Braun was a bit of an emergency pivot and quick take. Everything there happened within a 3 week span if memory serves.
Wilson of course was committed to Michigan until Bill 4D Chess Self had his bag men pay Belein to take the Cavs job. :joy:

I have no idea who we are focusing on, to be honest. Kyree? Maybe. But what position will he play? We already have McBride (who is bigtime), Wilson who will be around for atleast two maybe three years, Agbaji (who knows, maybe he'll be back too), and Enaruna and Braun who will both be back. I don't see us landing Kyree, who then?
McBride will be recruited over frequently so I would be prepared for that.
@Marco Wrong thread methinks.

@approxinfinity So we really only disagree on Wilson. I don't think he's a world beater but I really think we do need his shooting and he is much more ready than Enaruna or Braun.
Isnt he going to get abused on D? And is he really that good a shooter? I don't think the pluses outweight the minuses having him on the floor.
To be fair I'm not calling for 25+ minutes here. Just a rotation piece. Somebody has to get the minutes. Very possible Mitch plays way more than I am hoping.
Part of it is also that I am not sold on Silvio getting absolutely huge minutes. He very well may end up in the 25 range like you are guessing though. He is really still a relative unknown at this point.
I think Wilson is very playable defensively at the 4 in most match-ups.
@jayballer73 Agree with ya brother. As long as Huggins is there, WVU will compete in the league. Huggins like Self and Dixon coaches HARD. Sometimes that rubs kids the wrong way, and you have to do a purge.
Notice, we purged a bit too, but kept the good ones. I'm guessing Bill wasn't too sad about Q and Charlie transferring out, ya diggggg?
