WHOAAAA - -really? - ok , Ok , Ok - I'm not going to start getting worked up - - -I'm not - - I'm not lol

Yes, be patient on this one. We probably won't know much until July at the earliest. He still has to get all his coursework done. The good news is Hillcrest has a reputation of.. ummmm.... making it happen

Adidas version of Oak Hill? :joy:

No reason for KU not to make a big push. Kid is super entrenched with Adidas as well.

Zion says HI....Never hurts that he's on the grassroots program probably being influenced to stay with Adidas though

In that case Zion was Nike and then Adidas made a play to try and recruit him for KU. Didn't work out but this is a lot different than Zion's situation.

Walker has been at one of the bigger Adidas AAU teams and been going to an Adidas prep school.

@FarmerJayhawk At this point I'd be okay with running it back. Would rather have Walker than Grimes but ya know a bird in the hand these days.

2019 Transfer List • May 29, 2019 03:45 PM

@FarmerJayhawk Lol yep. If it's weed that doesn't change my opinion on wanting him at all.

So he either is coming back or got a guarantee.

REALLY NOT LIKING THE SECOND POSSIBILITY

If we wanted a sit-out transfer I'd take a hard look at Arizona's Devonaire Doutrive!

Odd situation. Main Arizona insider is saying it's not basketball related. He followed up on that with more info but it's a VIP post on their board so I can't read that.

He's a good developmental prospect. I think he'd be a good take.

Great coaches like Self break you down and build you up. Some players break early and build early(Dotson), some break early and take half a season(Oubre), and some break and need more than 1 season to really get it. I'd put Grimes into that last category. Of course, his mental makeup inst going to allow himself to be coached long enough to maximize his overhyped ability.

Some break entirely and never recover (Bragg).

No surprise on the first

Iowa St was looking for another scoring guard for this year. Looks like they found him

would we be interested in Mack at all?

No

New 2019 Recruiting • May 29, 2019 12:26 PM

@jayballer73 I believe you like Kyree Walker about as much as I do. Sounding like KU will make a push to get him for next season, but it would be late, maybe even Brandon Rush late.

Combine Invites • May 29, 2019 12:19 PM

dylans said:

I’m kinda over kids who don’t want to be at KU. F’em. If he shows up KU will be better (and he will play hard), but DeVonte declaring he would skip the combine and return to KU was the coolest thing I can think of. Wish we could get that kind of commitment out of another player of that caliber.

Pretty rare.

dylans said:

Last years team didn’t excite. This upcoming roster doesn’t look very great either. Definitely not a championship contender without another addition and a ton of luck. And possibly a first round exit without Dotson.

There are some positives though. The unathletic guys (Lawsons, Charlie, Q) are all leaving so the defense should be able to get a lot better.

Lawson scored a lot, but was inefficient. Overall I don't think replacing him with Silvio is the end of the world.

A lot will depend on Dotson, and any potential additions. Agree that it wouldn't be pretty without Dotson. If he does return, and KU adds just one impact guard that can shoot it*, that changes things considerably.

*Wilson or Walker realistically

Odd .. if Grimes thought he should be playing PG, he committed to KU after Dotson committed. Not sure what his camp thought.

This was the main reason Marquette thought they had a chance. But Bill did a great job selling Q on the program. It's too bad Grimes was just so damn slow and it was such a huge adjustment for him to play off the ball.

Kinda curious as to why Grimes would transfer. He would have to sit a year. He can play at KU....

His circle still firmly believes he is a PG and that Bill mis-handled him is my understanding of the situation.

New 2019 Recruiting • May 29, 2019 02:08 AM

Texas is going to hire Yaklich. This will hurt what chance Michigan had to retain Jalen Wilson.

HighEliteMajor said:

@Texas-Hawk-10 You make good points about Garrett. Concerns are that Garrett is slow with the ball. Plodding is the word that comes to my mind. He is zero threat scoring wise beyond driving as has been discussed many times. That said, I have no idea if McBride could handle it. Either way, we’d be in an unenviable spot.

Bill Self and a bag of rocks: a love story.

SILVIO IS FREE • May 28, 2019 11:37 PM

Not that it was really in doubt but Silvio has confirmed he officially removed his name from the draft and will play for KU next year.

I read where the Dotson family was upset over a story a week ago saying he would be back. They adamantly denied they had made any decision at all. I mean...if Dotson doesn't come back, i'll bet we'll see Derryck Thornton's name come popping up. Ugh...

Whoever started that rumor needs to disappear...

As for Thornton, not in any universe. I'd run Garrett out at the PT over him.

NBA Draft Numbers So Far • May 28, 2019 09:32 PM

Per Goodman

Here are the numbers I have compiled thus far: - 177 college underclassmen declared for the NBA Draft. - 47 Still undecided with deadline tomorrow. - 77 will stay in the draft - 53 will return to school

Already more than can be drafted staying in. Players realizing they have more value than a scholarship perhaps. The final numbers will be really intriguing.

Especially with an absolutely gaping hole at the wing. He wants the ball in his hands as more of a guard (personally I like him more as a 3) but he can do that playing off guard at KU. Dead eye shooter too. 43 and 47 percent the last two years. 80% from the line over his career too.

Yeah he'd be great to have.

Kyree is a different kind of dude too. He popped for ASU suuuuper early. Like Markese Jacobs early. I don't get the feeling that he wants much of the attention.

I feel we do well in these spots.

New 2019 Recruiting • May 28, 2019 07:43 PM

@BeddieKU23 I mean at this stage if he reclasses, many schools are full up. Bill Self needs to do the shit Calipari did with Juzang. He needs to stay Adidas as @FarmerJayhawk mentioned.

BeddieKU23 said:

So who else is recruiting Walker? Hard to imagine other programs not going after him with both bags available.

Just Arkansas. If Nike were to win Memphis. But if he is reclassing KU would be the driving force since those two schools are full.

New 2019 Recruiting • May 28, 2019 07:34 PM

@FarmerJayhawk I have seen that (Walker RJ either/or not both) bandied about in a couple articles before, one on Rivals I think. If Arkansas isn't in the picture, it would have to be KU I'd think. Saw nothing but Arkansas or KU and he is Adidas all the way I believe.

@Woodrow Not sure, he will be 19 before the next season even starts though.

Hyland is listed as a SG, but he's 6'3 and highlights show decent handles and ball in his hands a lot. Backup PG? I'm not sure I'm ready to see a 0 on the court yet. Unless he's a badass.

Hyland could be amazing in time but wouldn't move the needle much next year. That kinda seems odd but I think it's true.

Lol at this. We could run out Free State High and Self would get them to 5th in the league.

G: Garrett

G: Ochai

G: Wilson

F: Silvio

F: Doke

That's a possible Sweet 16 team.

Now do it but w/o Wilson since he is far from a lock. It's definitely worrisome and Doke can't be counted to stay healthy all year. Even if he did I think it's borderline without Dotson. That said, hopefully Dotson announces his return in the next 24 hours. Seeing lots of kids announcing they will be back today.

Say Dotson doesn't come back. So what?

My guess is that if he doesn't come back the staff will be on the phone figuring out who wants to come start at PG for us and help them get enrolled in summer classes so they can reclass by August. At least 20 guys in the top 30 would be eligible for the 2020 draft if they could finish the classes they need in time.

Duke did it twice (with Bagley and Thornton) in the past 4 years.

There would definitely be a BIG push but I want Dotson back.

Barring Bill finding a late miracle to run the point or a very high impact combo/2 guard.

HighEliteMajor said:

@Woodrow Self should drop a big bag. Get it done.

Players like McBride and Braun will be key going forward in the new landscape.

no

RJ Hampton • May 28, 2019 03:35 PM

@justanotherfan RJ had a bigger offer from China according to reports but took the Australia offer due to English language and perceived better lifestyle.

RJ Hampton • May 28, 2019 03:07 PM

Zion already had a huge brand w/o Duke or college basketball. That said, ESPN/Duke definitely helped him to some extent.

RJ Hampton • May 28, 2019 02:20 PM

Without knowing how much Zion and his family got to go to Duke, I was surprised he didn't go the pro route simply to sign a deal early. Like you said, it would have been millions.

We could be looking at a huge shift where even the big schools are closer to what is currently MVC level or thereabouts. There is really no reason for anyone in the top 10 minimum (maybe even expand this) to play college ball, then the rates will go up for the 2nd tier talent.
