@BShark Blackshear. No word on him doing it. But he's a RS Junior so you'd think he could if he wasn't going to just go pro.

There are multiple players with this name. VT kid?

He will still have to sit out, guaranteed. There was a coaching change though.

2019 Transfer List • Apr 03, 2019 01:57 AM

Bear in mind Jenkins is not eligible to play next year, has to sit out. So he'd be a long term addition.

He isn't w/o issue. Very poor defender, not a great athlete and had a Dedric like usage rate this year.

@BShark Is Beverly a shooter?

That was his role at montverde. Good athlete as well, better then Grimes in that regard.

Overall I think he would be a great addition.

On 247 attempts. Would take in a heartbeat

KU has made contact

@BShark I don't know of any schools around here where the principal would have that authority.

I don't think he exactly did, but he worked towards it however he could. Not sure if it ended up happening or not. It was purely for financial reasons too, he is an ahole.

Some encouraging stuff about Hurt and Self mentions targeting athleticism and shooting in recruiting more.

Part of re-tooling this group is understanding that Garrett and Lightfoot are not starters on next year's team. Penciling either of those guys in as a starter automatically caps the potential of that team.

Both are good role players that should figure into the rotation. But if either is playing more than 20 mpg, we already know they aren't making it past the Sweet Sixteen.

You are 100% right about the offense being flawed with Garrett. If Braun and Agbaji fill out the perimeter with Dotson, and Garrett comes off the bench, that's a good start. Or if KU finds another freshman here late (or a grad transfer) to fill that other wing spot, that helps a lot. The team should build around Lightfoot and Garrett as the sixth and seventh (or seventh and eighth) guys, not the fourth and fifth or fifth and sixth.

A decent and realistic starting line-up IMO

Dotson

A recruit maybe McBride or Beverly

Agbaji

Utomi

McCormack

Garrett and Mitch could be solid bench pieces. I would love for Beverly to be added and I think there is a real chance it happens.

But we know the reality is Garrett will start at the 2 in this scenario.

Don't expect anything from Braun next season imo.

In a perfect world, KU lands Matt Hurt.

@benshawks08 I glad you mentioned the need to fight school privatization. So many people seem to support the idea, and I find it hard to believe they don't realize that children with disabilities would not be served in at least the majority of private schools.

The principal at the public school I went to wanted to force out the mentally handicapped kids for crying out loud.

@HighEliteMajor I would agree this year's roster was top 5 going into the season. By the time you remove two of the top three interior players and one of the best three guards (when he was engaged) well we see what happened.

Talen Horton Tucker declared and reading his message about it, the decision seems final.

@BShark Interesting.... I think that we'll have a defection or two this year, which is fine (add a couple grad transfers). Get ready for - it is seeming more and more likely - KU to bring (my band name for them) Big Dave and The Precious Hurt next season..... Stay tuned....

If Self pulls that off...WOW.

Self to UCLA • Apr 01, 2019 06:40 PM

BAN ;)

Other Games Tonight • Apr 01, 2019 06:33 PM

KU almost stumbled into a title in 2012. Would have been pretty lucky, but that year was basically predetermined because AD was so good.

It certainly seems that it is harder to win a title at KU than UNC. Roy being large proof of that. Maybe it's just bad luck? Roy could have easily had two titles at KU with a few slightly different bounces of the ball.

As far as top 5 rosters go, I think KU used to have them but it's been awhile. There are usually some key flaws now. When was the last loaded KU team, 2011 maybe?

2019 Transfer List • Apr 01, 2019 05:50 PM

Lamont West headed to the Valley, Missouri State.

Other Games Tonight • Apr 01, 2019 05:45 PM

Absolutely no way on Calhoun. His last title was complete lucky trash too. He has more failures to make the tournament than titles. Fwiw he is back in coaching. 16-12 at a D3 school in Connecticut. He's actually helping to found their program as the school was previously women only.

Now is Hurt a OAD?

He thinks he is, to the same extent that Grimes circle did from what I can gather. So only expect him for one year wherever he goes.

@BeddieKU23 I think KU has a real good shot at Enaruna and a decent shot at Beverly. He put out a "final 6" that had KU on it but Michigan wasn't on it and Belein went to see him recently. Another school to watch is Alabama (on his list) as Nate Oats is a Michigan guy.

LOL

Other Games Tonight • Mar 31, 2019 11:30 PM

@kjayhawks Yeah it's a dumb narrative. The last "choke" I would say was the Stanford loss. People will point to the WSU loss but those two teams were almost identical according to advanced stats. That was a grotesque narrative based mis-seeding.

Charlie Moore transferring • Mar 31, 2019 11:28 PM

@FarmerJayhawk I recall Charlie when he transferred saying he wanted to be closer to home. It's why ILL fans thought he would end up there. Not saying it was for the same reason as now, I just recall it being mentioned.

People want to give KU jazz for choking. This dook team may get 4 guys in the lottery this summer and has arguably the best coach ever.

KU didn't choke even a little bit this year. Just got absolutely whipped by a JR/SR laden team that was also more athletic.

It's interesting to look at actually.

Austin Wiley #35 recruit JR, Brown basically unranked SR, Jared Harper #87 JR, Chuma Okeke (played until today) #47 SO, Doughty, McLemore and Dunbar all super low ranked guys but experienced too.

Most coaches would do work with a roster where 9 of the 10 rotation players are JR/SR.

God, my Duke looking like road KU comment ended up being so on point. More turnovers than assists and anemic three point shooting.

Duke turning it over like road KU in the first 4 minutes.

Other Games Tonight • Mar 31, 2019 09:07 PM

@KirkIsMyHinrich Yep. Cal has a real love for ultra athletic guys that can't shoot.

It had been an issue with Self but then KU teams started taking way more threes. Hopefully this year is a blip, but the amount of attempts was still solid. Just need to make more.

HighEliteMajor said:

Let’s separate simply commenting on how he performed vs ripping him. He plays KU basketball. We can comment. Part of that might be commenting on stuff that isnt postive. And we can ignore the attempts to discourage commenting that might not meet someone’s approval.

Reality - Moore was a huge disappointment. His play had strong hints a selfishness, but some was understandable given his limited opportunities. We can’t dress it up. He was perhaps the worst scholarship player Self regularly played. Adams only played 83 minutes. Moore 458. Speculation, but I’d take Adams easily. Challengers could be Royce Woolrodge, Merv Lindsay, Tyrone Appleton. But Moore played more minutes than all combined. Appleton may have been the worst of all, minutes aside.

Digest this for a moment — Moore had a PER of 5.4. He shot 26.7% from 3, and 31.4% from 2.

Simply a miss by Self. Only a few here (not me) thought he’d be that bad (@BShark?).

Seemed like a fine character kid. Meaning no info either way, which is good.

We can wish him well but also be glad he’s leaving.

Really he had to go, KU was not the place for him.

I stated from the start that it was not a great fit. This proved to be true, he was too much of a wildcard type player that doesn't play within the framework of the team. Typically, those players do not succeed under Self. Certainly though, I thought he would be better than the numbers he ended up putting up. I figured he would at least be a reasonable bench piece.

Privilage nonsense part 1 • Mar 31, 2019 06:57 PM

Definitely. As someone who has worked with trying to get people back on track there are plenty of white kids in underprivileged situations. There are systemic issues that keep many poor people poor. Some of the hardest working people I know never amassed any wealth.

KU's next coach. • Mar 31, 2019 06:54 PM

@Kcmatt7 I may retract my opinion on Bennett. I’d still stick with Beard #1. But I’m in retreat mode on Bennett.

I think either would be a fine option for sustained excellence.

Self, assuming he is still coaching KU next season, could stand to watch nothing but TTU tape over the summer for defensive scheme ideas.
