Talking to MSU fans, they seem to have absolutely no confidence in their backcourt outside of Cassius Winston. They think their advantage will be in the frontcourt.
Nick Ward vs Doke honestly feels like a wash to me. Their stat-lines from last season are pretty much identical and Doke is 2 or 3 inches taller and 30-40 pounds larger. Nick Ward doesn't shoot 3's. Neither does Xavier Tillman, who is 6'8, 245.
Dedric is going to have a huge matchup advantage over Goins or Tillman (whichever one starts).
The matchup that scares me the most is Winston vs whoever KU throws at him. I feel like it would be worth starting Marcus Garrett at the point in this game just to put some size and experience on Winston.
Tillman will start.
This game could really be a slog.

@BeddieKU23 It's basically all McQuaid does well. Not a rebounder, not a guy that you ask to make plays and is maybe average on defense.
Yup, he's exactly as advertised. He's a just a pain in the butt for KU. I know we read scouting report but literally guys should know don't even leave him he's not going anywhere
Absolutely. Make him drive it.

No worries. Coach Self will pull a rabbit from the hat...he always does.
We'll see this is a different landscape he's having to navigate. Good thing recruits have short memories. We need other schools to be in the cross-hairs by springtime
Short memories or they just don't care once they see the coach will still be there. That seems to have been big for Arizona and Louisville.

Good thing real games start to distract
Yep. And to be fair, next year should still be a pretty good team. Self will add some guys plus lots of solid returning players.
@BeddieKU23 Or Winston for that matter.
KUBUCKETS or espn.com?

Updated original post.
JRE picked Nova so he's off the board.
Removed Wiseman, Cockburn, Lawson & Achiuwa from consideration. Clear picture on those.
3 prospects remain on the board at the moment. No clear momentum with any right now
Feeling more and more like a dumpster dive spring.

But also sounds like we don't have a prayer here either if he's looking around after taking 5 visits. Must not have gotten the deal they were looking for
This is the very telling part to me, if they were convinced of anywhere they wouldn't be looking to take another visit.

ESPN has 3 Hawks listed in the Top 60 for the draft.
Quentin Grimes #6
Dedric Lawson #36
Udoka Azubuike # 57
**Devon Dotson #51 overall prospect but not listed in either round. Definitely one to monitor as the season goes on..
Vick & Silvio - Not in Top 100 or in Top 20 of their position groups.
Fully expecting Dotson to be back.
Ben McLemore's brother Kevin passed away yesterday. :(
UNC getting involved with Nnaji. :toilet:
LIVE at 6PM.
I can see the counterpoint, hopefully not too many games come to that.

@jayballer73 just a release today, and a presser once the new coach is hired. At least that’s last I knew
Oh so today they jut announcing he has been let go and such - -then a press release when we DO hire a new coach
Which might happen tonight.

My point was more along the lines that in Kansas in a good year we might have 3 or 4 P5 level players to divy up among the 3 top schools.
That many P5 level guys each year in KS is a stretch even.
I got your point in that it would be nice, but it can also be a crutch.
JayHawkFanToo said:
Style points? If a team is ahead by 7 points with the ball and with 15 seconds on the clock, is it going to hold the ball or try to hit a 3 to reach the margin of victory cap? Inquiring minds want to know.
I don't think you take the shot there. It risks missing then the other team hitting a quick three. Unlikely they could win from there but you never know.
JayHawkFanToo said:
8 Michigan players...must be nice to have that many in-state options.
Believe it or not, this has been a point of contention among the alumni/fan base in the past.
Shortening the game is HUGE when you are at a talent disadvantage. A run heavy scheme also greatly benefits the defense.
I think another important aspect is getting Bowen out as well. Beaty is clueless but it's long past time for Bowen to be out.
@Wigs2 Get the right coach and money going into the program and you can play above your historical station. KSU did that for awhile, Clemson is doing it now*. KU did it with Mangino. The money aspect is really important. The next hire needs to be good to put butts in seats. Football money is huge.
*Not saying KU can get to Clemson's level at all. KU clearly has a lower floor and ceiling.
@wissox Actually I view the 10 point cap as a good thing. I guess I don't fully understand your scenario, how is a team going to run up the score in a tight game? That's something that would happen in a blowout and this system does not reward it.

This would be about right for a Self Izzo game.

Everyone plays Bama like they're going to lose. Too passive. Bama's offense is nothing great. They're beatable
Schematically you might be right, but they have an enormous talent advantage so it doesn't matter. Most of their oline will be in the NFL and I bet some of these position players too. Jeudy is a monster.
Bama is not beatable this year.
To quote Jaybate "next".
kjayhawks said:
The route is on at LSU and it’s not the home team lol
No one is even playing Bama within a single score this year.
It's important.

This was a foregone conclusion when Long was hired. Just a complete waste of time to have kept Beatty this season. Beatty couldn’t recruit to fit what he wanted to do. We have zero commitments (one?). This was an unnecessary waste of a year. Beatty was another disaster. Success is on the horizon though.
Completely agree with you on this. Which I think means the world is ending.
KSU lost to TCU. lol
FarmerJayhawk said:
Tomorrow could be wild...
I'm very ready.
@HighEliteMajor My point was mainly that presumably he was coached before now. He could develop, but we would have to hope Bill Self is a much better coach than Tubby Smith. Which is definitely a possibility. His lack of speed concerns me as well, it's why he isn't a guard, imo.
kjayhawks said:
Clemson has hung 77 points on Louisville.
Yeah.....Louisville isn't good. Time for Petrino to go tbh.
Clemson is a great counterpoint to the point of a certain poster that it's all predetermined and blah blah blah shadow cabal determines who is good*. Clemson had some good seasons here and there but was relatively meh before Dabo Swinney. I took him until his 4th year to get it going, then they were close but no cigar for the next 4 years. They have been an absolute national power the last 4 seasons with no signs of slowing down.
*Of course somehow KU hoops is not part of the shadow cabal and is fighting the power. ;)

@Kcmatt7 Or, in other words, he ain’t that athletic. Stiff. Looks like a guy that needs more time.
He's already 22 is the thing. I think if he is willing to play the 4 and bang in the paint, he can be a nice player at KU.

2 time-outs already burned by Beaty and multiple pre snap penalties. Poor coaching yet again, SMH. ISU may hold us scoreless.
Could happen. Very good defense and defensive coaches vs an inept offense.
Probably because it was a politically charged video.
Reading is hard.

IUP is giving the Cats all they can handle. UK is shooting 52.6 percent from the floor but IUP is not backing down.
They ended up winning 86-64 fwiw.

@BShark it’d be nice to be able to throw Silvio into that mix. Doesn’t look likely at this point though.
Big Dave and Ochai are going to be nice down the road. As Jrs this class should be tearing it up. (Ochai, McCormack, Dotson🤞)
I was actually just thinking year 3 Dotson/Ochai/Dave is a very nice core if we get to see it. Dotson is probably the only risk to blow up and leave early. McBride in year 2 will be interesting as well. You'd have a :cloud_lightning: PG with an excellent shooting CG, solid shooter at the wing and a behemoth down low.

Ikr? I didn't try quite that many, but I had the same results. My boy @KirkIsMyHinrich let me know about it. I would assume going beyond the first page would get you there eventually, but who the hell does that lol.
Something that does intrigue me though, is when people find this forum to troll instead of the phog. Buckets isn't on the first page of google results when you search for "kansas basketball forum" or similar. Which is probably part of why I like it here.
Lol, wish I was a mod so I could see where their IP is. My first guess would be Missouri.

Honestly wouldn’t surprise me that much if we worked something out with Doke to stay for his senior year if we whiff on Zeke.
I've said this already but would take.
KirkIsMyHinrich said:
Agree with Doke being a big part of the offense, especially if he has improved his free throws. Feeding the post and passing out of the post are two things this team really needs to work on.
Post entry passing has been abysmal, but it's also November thankfully.

You knew they were going to fire back after missing on their top targets.
Still surprised UNC wasn't his choice. things changed quick with that one. KU definitely not in a position right now to steal recruits like this last minute
Definitely not. We will find out a ton about this class before December. If Self lands Stanley and Nnaji, we are back in great class territory. If not, we are looking at a spring time dumpster dive.

@KUSTEVE Speaking of Vick...
The worry about KJ is that he was really inefficient at Memphis, he just played a lot.
