@BShark I think the Lawson's will be out to prove themselves. I hope I'm wrong!

I think you are right, but it might be a good thing to an extent. Obvious you want to see buying in, playing as a team.

@Crimsonorblue22 It was the best descriptor I could think of. He isn't lights out, but he isn't Garrett either.

Crimsonorblue22 said:

How's kj's shooting?

Livable, but I'd bet he has been working on it.

Crimsonorblue22 said:

Dang, really makes me wonder.

Pretty clear he was forced out. Obviously nothing official will ever be said.

@BShark Can you name one three point shooter that you expect to be above 37% ... that's my quandary. I can't.

@Crimsonorblue22 Seeing the best in folks is a definite and admirable strength.

I think Grimes and Moore can be above that number. Moore took a lot of bad shots at Cal.

Ranking Big 12 after all the moving and shaking β€’ Jun 01, 2018 07:38 PM

I think it's

  1. Kansas

2-6 muddled WVU/KSU/ISU/TCU/UT

7-10 bottom of the league Tech/Baylor/OSU/OU

Grading it out exactly beyond KU is fairly difficult. Though I did put them in the order I think. KSU probably should be second but the only time he has won a league was in his first two years in a program. Bruce is, if nothing else actually fairly consistent in his mediocrity. When he often does best is when his team is expected to finish last, because that almost never happens. He has only had one losing season at ILL and KSU each. I think it's just as likely that he finishes in the wash, somewhere between 3rd and 6th.

@drgnslayr Carter was alright. He could shoot them out of games though and was a 3 recruit. Buuut being a 3 is kind of the point. I just assume at this point that the 3* players that Huggins slides into the line-up will play well enough. Like JAF said, business as usual. The Huggins machine is firing on all cylinders, I'll believe a crash when one happens.

I'm higher on ISU than @justanotherfan . I think THT is great and that Zion Griffin could be a Zhaire Smith like surprise to some people. I was hoping KU could snag Griffin but it was late involvement + Griffin and his family worried about being recruited over so he picked ISU instead. Kid just gets buckets, and extended his range over the last year. Take this all with a grain of salt because I thought they would be better last year, and the jury is still out on Prohm.

Another great class for Shaka! #8 on 247! Let's review his previous classes.: 2017 #6, 2016 #6. His win rate the last two years with these studs you ask? 39%. Oh. Well alrighty then.

TCU has more talent coming in than going out, imo and then you factor in the development of returning players. They should be better.

TTU has some decent players coming in. Losing Evans and Smith is no joke, but they should still be pretty salty. I am also high on Beard as a coach.

Baylor LOL Scotttty Drew.

Anyone watching NBA Playoffs? β€’ Jun 01, 2018 03:03 PM

@dylans !alt text β†—

@FarmerJayhawk Fair. Having him as the third big would be pretty exciting.

@chriz That's the rub. He has really never been a good rebounder for his size. Even at the HS and AAU level. I'm not sure how much of it is effort vs instincts vs conditioning.

@HighEliteMajor I've been as concerned as anyone about 3pt shooting but I think it will be passable. Not KU the last two years or Villanova good but I see no reason the team can't be around 37%. If the inside game is as good as we think it will be that should lead to lots of open looks for Moore, Grimes and KJ. A big part will be getting Garrett up to a passable percentage but I am confident that he is willing to put in the work.

Not sure adding Silvio objectively changes much. Would be nice though.

2019 Recruiting β€’ May 31, 2018 04:57 PM

I've seen it mentioned that KU will be taking a wait and see approach. Still interested but wanting to see how that legal crap turns out.

2019 Recruiting β€’ May 31, 2018 01:36 PM

It wouldn't shock me if Self and co held out for Hampton's decision since they already have a back-up plan on board that isn't a big difference from other PG targets. Except for Lecque. I don't think you can slow play Lecque hoping to get Hampton but we will see what the staff does. I really like Lecque's game and keep seeing it mentioned that KU has a real shot.

I could see adding Chandler and keeping KJ. It's going to be KU vs Penny of course. If Dedric ends up being NPOY (not unrealistic) that's really gotta make Chandler/his dad think.

Not seeing a truly elite wing that KU has a great shot to land. Lots of "ok" wings which make returning veteran options more appealing. Really like Williamson as a long term prospect. I feel like he just need to keep working on his body, the skills are there. Edit: Maybe Josh Green, but loads of other schools involved deep there.

Very intrigued to see how things go with KU targets over the summer. Only known top targets imo are Hurt, JRE and Hampton. Very real chance at Hurt, expect to land JRE and Hampton to Duke in 2019.

2019 Recruiting β€’ May 31, 2018 12:03 PM

So Marcedus Leech is in fact an ISU commitment, but it's not public because of something on ISU's end. They won't say what of course.

2019 Recruiting β€’ May 31, 2018 11:20 AM

@BeddieKU23 Could have Garrett, Cunliffe and KJ all still around and those are all guys you mostly want at the 3 or small 4. Oh also Ochai, who knows how he develops.

If we are looking at Dedric, Doke and Grimes leaving it only has to be a 4 man class, while needing at least 2 bigs. There are a lot of wild cards though. Cunliffe could be squeezed out, the whole SDS situation (plus he could go pro with a good season anyway).

2019 Recruiting β€’ May 31, 2018 10:59 AM

@BeddieKU23 Every time I read an article about him it sure seems like he wants KU to recruit him harder.

From Bedore

Harry Coxsome, Azubuike's mentor and family in the US said Doke decided to return to KU: "Between last night and this morning."

He said "he went back and forth with the decision. When it came down to making the decision, it weighed on him." He said he is returning to "raise his draft stock." But Harry said he is confident he'd have been taken in draft.

@kjayhawks Smart came out today with his assessment that he is worth a $12 to $14 million contract. He is a restricted free agent. We will see if anyone agrees, or if Boston ends up re-signing him for a lot less after other teams pass on a bidding war (the Moustaka fate).

It might be difficult for some teams to see his value. This will be interesting to follow.

Jalen Wilson announcing for Michigan soon...

So I was rewatching the Duke game this morning. 11:34 remaining in the 2nd half, Garrett screens off Marvin Bagley, who is much bigger than him to get Silvio an easy basket rolling to the rim. This is the kind of little thing he does frequently.

Also fwiw he wasn't statistically the worst overall offensive rotation player last year. That was Mitch. Mitch's defensive numbers were actually pretty damn good though, considering.

I'm guessing Garrett will start which is fine. I trust Self on this, to distribute minutes well in the guard rotation. Will be something very interesting to watch early plus see how thing progress as the season plays out.
